First of all i did not found an apropiate sub forum to start my thread, so really sorry if this is a wrong forum. I owned galaxy nexus so I thought this would be a good sub forum
Now let's come to the main issue.
Recently an anti islamic movie was upload to Youtube. Which creates alot of tension in the 3rd world.... Pakistan's government block the website across the Pakistan to protest against the video. And YouTube will remained close till the removal of that video (which ain't gonna happen like this).
As you all know that Pakistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Pakistan telecommunication authority hire inexperienced IT experts due to political pressures. These incompetent employees and government could not manage to block the YouTube properly at first. So PTA immediately block the IP of YouTube. But in doing of such impotent work by our ****ty government more then half of Google services become unusable in Pakistan. We can't connect to gmail account on our android and not even play store.
We can not download apps from the app store because of such failed action of our government.
As you know that YouTube is owned by Google. Yoiube IP is same as most of the Google's ip's.
PTA have blocked the IP so many Google services had stop.
In light of above explanation I need a work around on how open my gmail account and play store. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I know through proxy I can unblock the websites. But I,m unable to sync my gmail account through proxies because of the Google's high security. And I still can not download apps via market through proxy.
Give me a good suggestion. Any work around, any good proxy please.
Any modified Google play store.
I have galaxy nexus, galaxy note HTC desire and Asus transformer. All of them could not connect to Google services due to this blockage. And I know this problem had spread across whole of the android users in pakistan.
Refrain from political discussion or abusing thanks.
THE THREAD IS CLOSED, YOU CAN GO TO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903105 for Solution Thanks
I don't think a workaround will work unless PTA lifts the ban or at least unblock ip's affecting google services. I have a galaxy note and I thought it was because of the custom ROM I was running. So I did a full wipe, nothing happened. Then I checked on my brothers HTC one X which was on stock and he was having the same problem. PTA guys are a bunch of ****ing retards. Thanks for starting this thread, I hope someone comes up with a solution. Btw, I started experiencing this problem yesterday while youtube was blocked a few days before. When did you first start experiencing these problems?
Well for websites I know there are sites I know you can use to mask what you are looking at, but I don't think it will work with services based in apps.

How are you trying to connect to google services, via WiFi or EDGE? If WiFi, then which ISP (PTCL DSL, Wateen or some other?) I see you're on Warid's network.
I'm in Karachi and my Google related accounts sync/work fine over wifi but have a problem over EDGE/2G. If you're trying to download apps from mkt I can only assume you use wifi for it (because on EDGE speeds it would take you forever to download any apps at all). PTCL is the only ISP that has a problem as far as I know. I know in Lahore and Karachi several isp's are working fine in this regard (Wateen, WiTribe, Worldcall, etc).
If you're trying to get google services to work over EDGE on Warid then you can just use gmail and market etc from the browser, which works fine. Only the apps themselves have a problem (like email sync which takes really long).

I,m from sialkot,Punjab. here all edge networks and ISP are having the same issue. I had tried Wateen, Witribe, and ptcl they all getting the same issue, i don't know if they are working through the same channel or not. i have tried edge over ufone, warid, mobilink. but still can't open the play store and contact syncs in gmail account on my android.
On my Gnex i,m running on Slim bean 2.5 rom, and AOKP on Asus Transformer. All of them are getting the same error.
if your play store is working good, i heard there are some apps in play store which can direct android traffic through proxy channel. kindly research on it and see if one of them can work for youtube app in android. i think that is possible. because if i modify my access point(wifi) setting in android, and set proxy setting to manual, and enter the proxy ip with port. i can access youtube and i can also sync gmail. but that channel only work for 2 or 3 min :/. i kept on changing proxies ip and ports. but not working

Thanks for your Post. Is there any apps on play store which can direct all android traffic through proxy channel? i have tried modifying my access point settings through wifi advance settings, and set proxy mode to manual and set ip of proxy. that is a possible work around and my gmail and youtube also work for 2 or 3 min, but not a permanent work through, can you please research on any work around. if possible. i,m looking to subscribe Hidemyass.com for complete anonymous Ip. if it can work on android through some kind of proxy app.
You might be able to do this using a VPN. Settings > More > VPN. You'll need to find a free VPN service that will give you the login information. I'm sure there's one out there but I don't know any off the top of my head.

this is the best way indeed although I have to say most free vpns are seriously slow. you can get a proper one for like 5 to 10 dollars a month.

Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aed.droidvpn ? DroidVPN free has a limit of 100MB a day which i guess is good enough for sync purpose?
if you have a rooted phone then you can use this proxy in your wifi settings. I tested, it works. not too slow either

I don't understand the problem, what issue are you facing? If you have a UBL WIZ Internet card, just login to play store, press buy on any app and enter your card details like you would with any credit card - your card number, the cvc/cvv code at the back the expiry date and your billing address - works fine here
Make sure you call UBL's phone help line first and give them your card number and confirm if you are authorised to make online transactions
EDIT: It doesn't matter if the price stated is in US$ or Britis Pound or Euros or Kuwaiti Dinars, UBL bank will convert to Pak Rs with their prevailing bank conversion rate and charge your card for the right amount automatically
FWIW, I used Witribe today (in Pindi) and Playstore works fine. PTCL is flaky - sometimes, yes, at other times, no. I'm on Mobilink (I think I need to update my profile) and I couldn't sync my account with Google the entire day.
So - it depends from ISP to ISP. Your best bet is to either use Onavo Extend - or Orbot (Tor) for Android... or another VPN solution.

TLDR: Unlocked LG G2 was on Sprint, now on VIVA in Kuwait, Max WiFi users when running hotspot is 1 - I want to increase it to more.
Long version:
Hello! I am a military service member deployed to Kuwait. I have a Sprint LG G2 which is rooted and running the latest UltraPop ROM. Before I left the US, my phone was activated on the Sprint network and when I would use my WiFi hotspot, I had the ability to connect up to 10 users or something. When I got to Kuwait, I had to have my phone SIM unlocked for International use to make it work with the SIM cards provided by the carrier here (it's called VIVA). My phone was not on the Sprint network when I needed to unlock so when I did the UICC unlock it did an OTA over WiFi and then I was able to use my phone on their carrier. This is all well and good.
The problem is, I want to connect my laptop, my tablet and a few other items to my hot spot - thus the appeal of the hot spot, right? LOL. Anyway, several advanced options like the radio channel, frequency, etc. have now disappeared and in addition, the most important one - the amount of users able to connect to the hotspot, went from allowing 10 to 1. I am not sure why, except maybe something to do with the OTA update when I did the UICC unlock.
I did some reading and found this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718682
Quickly I tried it and restarted my phone. No change. Then I noticed there was another hack for phones that had been activated on the Sprint network, which as I explained above, believe applies to me. This article has a more complicated procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2675280
I am afraid to try this method and screw things up. I suppose I could boot in TWRP and do a NANDROID back up before I try it but I am wondering if anyone thinks it will hose the only working Internet I have right now in Kuwait.
Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to get the WiFi hotspot to allow devices to connect while running a VPN at the same time please enlighten me!
Thanks!!!
Sincerely, Lost & Confused...
OK, so I am going to resurrect my own thread here. I spent some time on and off dealing with the 1 client max for the hot spot in my Sprint LG G2. Lots of frustration. Anyway, digging deeper based on a tip another friend of mine gave, I discovered something that I thought would have helped, but no cigar.
Anyway, a variable called max_num_sta in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/hostapd.conf allows the access point to have only one client. The hostapd application on Android performs almost identical to an average Linux distro, so I figured by modifying this variable I would be able to allow more than 1 client to connect to my hotspot. However, even when changing the file manually, as soon as the hot spot is enabled thru the stock interface, only 1 client is able to connect and looking at the file again shows the value of the variable has been reset.
Next step on the list, was to run the hostapd manually from an Android terminal (something like hostapd -e/data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin -BK /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf). The command works at the hot spot functions, but again somehow resets to 1 freaking client again!
I would really like to be able to use my G2 to connect more than one device at a time to my hot spot while I am stuck in Kuwait. It is my only source of Internet. Anyway. Is there a way to disable the stock Wi-Fi Hot Spot interface using Titanium Back-up? Remove the APK? Modify the system? Something? I'd really like to figure this out. Any info or suggestion appreciated...
Is it possible to have a VPN client start automatically when my phone connects to WiFI. Unrooted with the latest software 6.0.1. I have one phone on T-Mobile and another on Project Fi so the latter may be a problem if I decide to root the phone. Thanks.
Thanks.
Quick google search found me this. I don't believe this requires root. Otherwise, this app seems to be your best option when rooted.
Note - i haven't tried either of these, just did a bit of google searching.
I did search prior to posting and the only solutions I found required root. I will check this out as I already own tasker.
I use Vypr VPN. Allows to auto connect on untrusted WiFi or on a per app basis. Not the cheapest of the VPN's out there but the app interface for phone and computer are excellent. And speeds have always been good. They do Iog but are very open as to what it is they are logging. I did get shut off once from a request generated from using popcorn time but clicking terms of service gets you back up quick... No big deal.
Has anyone made anything that roots the pixel xl, the variant from the google store with the unlocked bootloader? I want to root my device, no need for custom recovery and install a system wide adblocker.

Not yet. Partitions are different on the Pixel compared to other phones which is going to create a different method for root. It will happen when the devs figure it out. I am looking forward to tinkering with my new Pixel.

Chain fire is waiting for his to be delivered to his country. Once he gets it then he will start working on root. He says it will be a little harder so it will take a little longer. Also the dev beanstown is on the waiting list for November so we will start seeing root and custom Roms by December I bet.

Have you tried Adguard, no root needed and easy to toggle on/off, I started using it on my work phone and have found that it works very well, enough that I've switched to it on my personal phone and on the desktop.
Local link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895
If you find a need for the premium functions googling "adguard stacksocial" will give you a much cheaper option for multi device usage.

This is totally speculation, but since Adguard appears to use the android VPN to block ads, I imagine this may have some kind of negative affect on Wi-Fi assistant (if you have it enabled). I would test it, but honestly I don't trust that this company is tunneling all the traffic of all your apps through them. Seems a bit sketchy to me, but to each their own.
EDIT: Seems I misunderstood how the application functions. I'll still be waiting for root, but thanks to rgbc for the info.

The app sets up a local (on-device) VPN for ad filtering, web traffic isn't being routed through Adguard's servers.
I don't use wifi assistant (traffic routed through Google's servers) as I use a third party VPNfor all public wifi however when Adguard senses a remote VPN connection being setup it disabled it's self automatically. It also has a root option for alternative filtering methods for use with VPNs.
Cheers,
Rob

My bad, as I said total speculation. Didn't mean to spread mis-information. I'm probably still going to wait for root, but it's nice to know there is an alternative.
I've ask this question before of other phones in other forums....and didn't have a good solution.
I have a new, unrooted US TMo S22. I'd like to replace the Hosts file to block the tons of ad sites while browsing.
Without having to root the phone...
1) does anyone know of a way to replace hosts?
2) or to redirect hosts lookup by browser to a location in the open storage file system location where I can transfer my preferred hosts file?
One solution may be to replace the DNS lookup to a custom server that blocks ads... Anyone tried that?
tia
I use a pihole dns server on my home network, works great at reducing ads.
Thanks! I use dual Pi-Holes on my home network and 2M line block list, yeah it works great.
I'm interested in when I'm away from home mostly. Or on 5G cellular.
I'm trying out Custom DNS entry for now, using DNS.AdGuard.com.

Set up a NextDNS account. You get more control over what you filter and what you don't. Free version gives you 300k blocks a month, which should be more than enough for a single device. I put it on my entire network though, so I pay the yearly $30 fee.
