If you have a sdcard, copy a new, stable and working flashable firmware using your PC (You may need an MicroSD reader). Now in TWRP wipe cache/dalvik cache n' system, then flash the new firmware... easy.

Hi all, I also want to try the PAC 4.2.2 Rom, so like a good little noob I've been searching everywhere to find out if I need to open the zip in my pc & fastboot the .img first as I have a different/wrong kernel, I've got cm10 fxp 212 on my xperia s.
So far this is the only place I've seen it mentioned.
Could anybody confirm it please?
& the run command if you know it.
Thanks.

1. Open zip file and copy boot.img to fastboot folder
2. Right click and select " Open cmd here" (Win7)
3. Type these commands
- fastboot flash boot boot.img (Wait when its done after few sec)
- fastboot reboot ( or unplug the cable and turn on your phone)
4. Now, boot into CWM to flash Rom
Take notice that you have to install fastboot driver first. Good luck :fingers-crossed:

if you have a CWM Recovery in your kernel(like FXP's CM9 or CM10 kernel)
just copy the zip(you download from the PAC thread) to the internal storage
then boot into CWM, wipe, flash the zip, enjoy
recovery will flash boot.img automatically
if no work, try flash the boot.img manually, like the way on 6# reply
Lilude & Speca, thank you both for a quick reply, btw, your English is perfect.
Wow! So a different kernel can be flashed with the rest of the packet from recovery/cwm without needing a pc, (except for copying to sd card) .
A new bit of knowledge for me!
I'd click your thanks buttons if I knew how, but as you can see I'm new to the forum & still finding my way about.
Noobs of the world unite.
Both ways are fine but better flash separately in such situation. It definitely helps you avoid a broken CWM happening after that such as : can't backup the current Rom, can't mount system as well as can't flash anything, etc.. aside from having to reflash Stock Rom,otherwise the phone gonna get stuck on boot . How terrible !
Make your choice and do not mess up your phone, huh ?
Sent from my Xperia S using Tapatalk 2
If you say flashing the boot.img from my pc first is the safest option then I'll use that method.
I've already messed up several times when I was in stock, without a recovery, luckily EMMA came to the rescue.
Since custom rom cm10 I can't flash updates or anything else without a factory reset, partition & dalvic wipe is never enough.
So taking my time for this rom, download tonight, fingers crossed

wiped everything
fixed permissions

Works perfectly so far!
also I reinstalled my own apps manually instead of using titanium back up. I read this hint in the PAC v22 thread / dev section.
maybe this is 1 of the reasons I'm not having the odd problem that a few others are experiencing. who knows?

Problem with installing ROM. (newb)

Hey guys!
First sorry if this is wrong subforum, or there is an anserw for my problem. I spent about 5 hours on trying to do this.
Firstly I'm a noob in this subject.
I want to flash rom X - Gamer or True Smooth. ( are they any good?)
And I flashed generic .62 on my phone (Xperia Arc ) but I don't know what to do next.
I tried doing all those drivers, CWM, kernel things but I'm just lost now.
I can't learn all the things in one day..
Can someone give me links to best versions of things I need and say step by step how to do it? (or link to good toutorial)
Thank you so much for any help guys!
~ J
you need first flash kernel, then you must open cwm and set your zip file of rom from your sd card
So I need to paste it on SD card in zip? K.
When I'm trying to flash it in fastboot mode that appears "ERROR - This action can only be done in fastboot mode"
Do you have unlocked bootloader?
You have to place the ROM .zip file on the SDcard.
Depending on the bootloader status, you have to either install custom kernel for CWM Recovery or install one in system partition, latter being more riskier.

Yup I've gott my bootlader unlocked.
So what next after placing .zip file on SD?
"- Copy ROM setup file to SD card
- Enter CWM and choose the setup file
- Follow instruction in AROMA installer, customize the ROM as you like and click Install. NOTICE: in Extra section, unchecked item means you don't like it to install with this ROM, so it will be removed if it's already existed (in case you re-install the ROM)"
These are isntructions, so how do I intall CWM correctly?
Phone is rooted, I've got recoveyx on it and i installed CWM for GB. But I can't acces recovery mode. I spammed back button, volume down, hold it..
Please help..
If you have unlocked bootloader, get custom kernel for GB (LuPuS or DooMKernel), flash it in fastboot mode, get into the recovery, factory reset, wipe /system and then install zip from sdcard and choose the ROM zip.
Having unlocked bootloader and then rooting phone, installing CWM via an app is useless, time-wasting and caused many issues.
Okay I'm lost again.. I flashed Lupus and my phone didn't want to start. Blue led flashed but screen was still black..
now I've got android version 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.62) generic.
Bootloader is unlocked (100% sure)
Which kernel should I choose to make this work?
Sorry I'm so nooby in this subject

Well if you have access to your recovery you should be able to mount your SD card there and then connect it to your PC. From there you can transfer a zip file to your phone and flash it.
I don't see anything mentioned about which custom recovery he flashed.
Could this be a stock recovery that he is in? (that may not allow mounting etc.)

I think a little more studying should have been done before flashing things. Now that we know you can get into CWM Recovery, you can flash a custom ROM. Note that doing so will involve wiping your data/cache/system - so whatever apps you were using on your phone will be gone (along with the data for each app, like your preferences etc.)
And since your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash pretty much any ROM you like because the unlocked bootloader allows custom kernels to be flashed.
As an example, you can flash SlimKat. It is a custom ROM with a custom kernel. The page is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700456. You can find the download links in post #3. There will be a ZIP file for the ROM, and then optionally, another ZIP for the Google Apps (aka GAPPS), which would allow you to sign in to your Google account, use Play Store, etc. SlimKat offers 3 gapps (which I will link here because the GAPPS link on that thread seems to take me to a login page): They have mini, normal, and full. Take your pick..
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1150-addons4-4
Once you've downloaded them, copy the Slimkat ZIP to your external SD card. Also copy the GAPPS zip that you chose (if you wanted that).
Put the external card back into the phone and power it up, and get back into recovery like you did earlier. In recovery, before flashing the zips, you should do your wipes (this is where it wipes your apps/data/system). But as a precaution, maybe go into "install zip from sdcard", navigate through your external card to make sure the ZIP files are available to you.
I think that most ROM install zips take care of these wipes for you, but it's a good habit to get into when flashing custom ROMs.
You're going to:
1) Wipe data/factory reset (this will wipe the data and cache)
2) Go into Advanced and wipe Dalvik cache
3) Go into Mounts and Storage and format /system
Once that's done, you're going to go to "install zip from sdcard", choose your external card, and choose the SlimKat ZIP. That will flash the ROM and kernel. Once that's done, you're going to do one more flash - which is the GAPPS zip (if you decided that you wanted it).
Once that flash is done, you should be able to just reboot and the phone will start to boot into the new ROM. Note that on first boot, it will take some time - so you may be staring at the boot animation for a few minutes.

When you say you want to root, it means that you want to root the current system that you are on. But from what you have described in this thread, you are currently having a problem with your phone, where it does not boot normally into the system/ROM. You boot straight into Clockworkmod Recovery, every time. Correct? If this is correct, then rooting your current ROM probably won't help your situation (because you are not able to boot normally into the system).
Slimkat is a ROM that has root access included. I believe that pretty much any custom rom has root included. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that slimkat does not support your Z1 compact. You should be able to flash Slimkat to your Z1 Compact. The link from my previous post points to the Slimkat thread, which is in the Z1 Compact Original Android Development forum, so it is made for Z1 Compact.
That said, you don't need to choose Slimkat - I provided that just as an example of a custom rom that has a custom kernel included. Look through the Xperia Z1 Compact Original Android Development forum for custom roms that use custom kernels. Most of those roms have the custom kernel included in their ZIP. Whichever custom rom you choose, make sure to READ the original post (and other posts if necessary) to get the information you need on how to install it, or to find out what files you will need for that ROM (as some roms have add-ons and stuff you may find interesting).
There are also ROMs that are stock-based. Those can be found in the Xperia Z1 Compact Android Development forum. These roms also have root included, and are built to run on the standard stock Sony kernel. Some of them may be based on a specific stock Sony kernel version, so pay attention to that.
If you want to start over, and flash a pure stock Sony ROM to your phone (also known as an FTF), you can do that at any time by downloading an appropriate FTF for your phone, and flashing it by loading the FTF with FlashTool. It will then ask you to put your phone into FlashMode (which is done by making sure the phone is OFF, then holding the VolDown button, and connecting the USB cable while still holding the VolDown button. Once the flash begins, you can let go of the VolDown button) But !! Please note that if you haven't used FlashTool before, you will need to install some drivers. They are included with FlashTool, in a folder called Drivers. You would choose the driver specific to your phone, plus the FlashMode driver, plus the Fastboot driver. If you are using Windows8, you will have to do some extra work to get those drivers to install correctly. It involves booting Win8 into a mode where Driver Signature Enforcement is disabled, then installing the drivers found in the drivers folder of FlashTool. You can easily find out how to do that by searching online.
Hope this helps... don't make any risky flashing moves if you aren't certain about them - just keep reading and searching and you will eventually find the answers you need.

take the recovery.img from zip paste it in your fastboot folder and flash it with the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img then go in recovery and charge the phone
2. Do you have some rom on your sd card?
3. Wich CWM version?
Edit if your AICP rom is still on sd card flash THIS RECOVERY then install the rom and flash the boot.img.
I think you tryed with the old recovery to install KitKat or LP rom big mistake

I think I need the proper help to install a custom rom now, instead of messing up... could you maybe get me the files for a JB AOSP rom? I would appreciate it! not sure what to look for now after this, scared i'll mess up. Thanks!

Why you not install some sense for first time or try to flash some CM12 or lolipop. Remember Philz 5.15.9 is only for JB roms and mount sd card work only on 5.15.9. If you want KitKat or Lolipop you must to change the recovery to this where I give you in my post, but dont forget to copy the rom to sd card with this recovery first., or easy way download some sense and flash it
Say wich rom you want to flash and I will give you the right link for rom

You are very kind when flashing a rom, do I remove the boot.img from the rom file to flash via fastboot, or do i just make a copy of it? I would like to flash cm 10.2 to begin with, which files do i need and which recovery? thank you in advance, you are a great help!
Also, my phone only came with 1.5gb free space for apps... It is a 32gb phone and i have 25gb of storage left but it says only 1.5gb out of 6gb for apps, how do i unlimit this?

10.2 is too old but it is your decision. just extract the boot.img from zip and put it in your fastboot folder. Don't extract the hole zip, and copy the original zip on your sd card. You can move the apps to your sd card CM support it
Well I want an aosp rom that means i can stick to the same recovery. It seems easier to stick to JB, would that be okay? Could you find me the relevant files?
I basically want the easiest one to install and the most risk free!

Storage Layout and wifi problem

Hi,
So first I tried to install a new ROM over my Android Revolution ROM, flashing boot.img via Flashify.
Now the wifi, service and bluetooth dont work anymore.
So I tried to install the new layout many times via TWRP install through Flashify but every time I try a NL ROM (like FlexOs or any NL Rom) via recovery, i get : "your recovery is using the new storage layout but the rom you're trying to install is not" even after wiping /data and /sdcard0
I dont have any computer so I have to flash boot.img via Flashify.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

U dont have to flash the boot.img with flashify ...i had tried before to flash a recovery via flashify but it was not successful ...so you will have to try aroma kernel flasher to flash kernel/boot.img without the pc ...hers the link to it

1. go ahead and download the kexec kernel v10(old layout) if you are on old layout or the new layout one if you are on new layout
2. Download this Recovery App: AromaFM-KL Flasher(4.6)(ZeusKL v10+ only)
3.download arhd rom
4. go into fastboot anf flash the kexec kernel you download in step 1 via Fastboot flash boot Zeus.img(or the name of the kernel.img )
5.Boot into recovery (TWRP).
6. Now you install Aroma-KL.zip. When you do this aroma file manager opens in recovery.
7. In aroma file manager select the zip of your rom i.e arhd
8. Now after you select your zip in the previous step, aroma gives you a list of options. In this select install the zip.(let all the option which are selected as it is ...dont deselect any option)
9.exit aroma
10.reboot
Sorry but i'm stuck at step 4 asking to flash zeus.img via fastboot because i have no computer.
Is there a way to flash it through recovery or through the app ?
Thx

No . I dont think so..(dont even try ...as ur hox may get hard bricked)
arrange for a computer for only this time ..and once you have flashed that kernel...you wont need a computer henceforth both for flashing a rom or a kernel you can do it via the aromma kernel
Ok then Ill try to get one.
Still thanks for all your help.

Did u succeed in flashing the aroma kernel flasher??
Yeah the boot gets flashed but for the rom i get : archive does not contain android-info/product.txt
Any idea on that?
Is it possible to flash Aroma zip via fastboot ? Whats the command to use ?
Thanks
Done I finally succeeded in transferring files to the HOX.
I am using twrp new layout (twrp big) so I booted in recovery, went to Mount and selected only Data then I transferred files from my tablet using "adb push (local) (remote)" !
