I just rooted my girlfriend's Reef in about 2 mins. I haven't yet messed with roms or recoveries yet, however, that will be a project for tomorrow. It's a pretty simple procedure, make sure your phone is set to allow apps from unknown sources, Google "Framaroot 1.4.1" from your phone's browser, then download the apk. Also make sure that if you have anti-virus on your phone, clear the defaults, as the apk will not install if you have it set to autoscan before install. Click the download in the notification bar when it is done, then install with "package installer". When done, open the program, install with "Superuser" (which is the default option at the top). My phone rooted with the "Gandalf" exploit. Reboot your device. Verify that "Superuser" shows in the app drawer, I also verify root with "Root Checker" by joeykrim.

Awesome, thanks! Will give this a try soon. Any reason for not using the latest version of Framaroot?

No specific reason, you could try the latest version if you so desire, that is just the one that I used.

Thanks!
Finally got around to playing with this device. Rooted successfully with framaroot 1.9.2 same method as you described.
Got any optimization tips?

I have been trying a lot to find the stock recovery image but all the methods listed pretty much everywhere have failed. How did you manage to extract the recovery.img?
My Reef is rooted and I have spent more than a week trying to extract recovery.img but no luck

[Q] Bloatware Reappears on Restart

So I used Visionary to root my HTC Desire Z, checked that it was rooted with Android Terminal Emulator using su returning #
I then proceeded to delete all the .apk's of the bloatware in /system/app folder
Upon restart they reappeared. I've tried 3 different file managers and I also tried deleting their data folders in /data/data and now matter what I do they reappear on a restart.
Does this mean it is hard coded into the ROM? DO I have to wait for a permanent root and flash a new stock ROM minus the bloatware?
Anyone found a solution or maybe i'm doing it wrong...
This is another example of where we're miles behind the G2 forums. Check out the G2 ROM Dev forum, there is an app there to show how you can delete built-in apps and then they won't reappear.
But BE CAREFUL ! It will probably be the case that if you go down this road, you may have a problem with future OTA updates.
The reason it's not working with your current method is that you're not really deleting anything. Write access to the internal storage is not possible right now (it is being worked on intensively for the G2), so the phone is caching the file system and making it appear they've been deleted, but the internal storage hasn't been updated. So when you reboot, the app just comes back again. This is how come there's been a myth that the phone automatically "un-does" any changes and resets itself when you reboot - it's not really doing that, because you didn't make any permanent changes in the first place.

Thanks for the explanation! Hmm yeah, I don't know if I want to start flashing roms or leave it stock because it's pretty decent stock. And I did hear that updating/upgrading to new OS's have problems is you delete the bloatware programs...
Thanks again

try this method:
1. install VISIONary
2. install busybox
3. install titanium backup
4. run VISIONary
5. Run BusyBox
6. install busybox through the installer
7. run Titanium Back-up
8. find the app you don't want
9. press and hold and an a contextual menu will pop up and select the last option
or check our this link: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...move-applications-using-the-recovery-exploit/
i did it this way and have master reset many times and all the Bell Bloatware is gone, BUT... i had to repeat the steps 4 - 9 after each time, but the crapware is gone!

Tried this method. Everything works fine (rooted, Busybox installed), but when I try to pick the option to "Force remove app (by recovery exploit)" I get the error message "Cannot remove system app, Failed to locate apk file".
What am I doing wrong?

Never mind, I figured it out. You need to have either S-OFF or CID unlock in order for this method to work. I was only rooted, and intentionally not S-OFF and SuperCID. I used the gfree method to S-OFF and SuperCID, and the above method of removing the bloatware seems to be working perfectly now.

It was the S-OFF. Unless you have S-OFF, you still have write protection on the system and recovery partitions. So apps will appear to get deleted as the information is written to cache. But they'll come back on a reboot because the information was never written to (deleted from) permanent storage.
So if I'm rooted using Visionary and have S off using the gfree method but I never installed busybox.. What would be the best method? Can I just install busybox and install or would I need to do another method?

Just install Busybox.
The above method worked great EXCEPT for one app: Kobo (e-reader). I've tried to force remove in Titanium Backup three times now, and also tried using the "regular" un-install option in Titanium Backup. Every time the phone reboots, Kobo is still there.
Any ideas?
I used an app called system app remover i think thats the name...not 100% suree...but i got it to get rid of wifi calling cuz im on roger and tmobile wifi calling wouldnt work so i tried the titanium back up method and it didnt work so i looked around and android underground had a download for the app and it removed the app and it went into an fc loop so i pulled the battery and it is gone and rom runs perfectly fine

Using an app called Absolute System Root Tool has the feature to uninstall system apps, and this worked for me to remove Kobo.

[Q] Noob+root=hairloss, need help with GT-S5560

So, I heard some while a go that it is possible to have flash in GIO. Me being a totally helpless with tech I asked my friend of a friend of a friends cousin to ROOT my phone. Well that went smoothly, I did not get flash on my mobile´s websites but instead I can´t connect my Gio to PC via USB... NUTS!
And "the Friend" can´t help me no longer...
So here are the problems, I can´t connect to PC, no matter what. Tried de-buggin, un-installed drivers <-> installed drivers. Nothing...
Also I have that app I don´t really want ( or do I?), called SuperSU which is´nt working, says something about "binary needs to update -> Fail". How the h*ll i´m gonna get rid of that? Is that app that lost my USB-connection? Did I do it?
So could some one please tell me, 1) How to remove SuperSU-app or how to fix it (I you think that I should have it). 2) Any ideas how to solve USB-issue. 3) If I need to install any app´s, softwares and so on, links would be great. Working ones...
Here´s some specs from my phone, GT-S5660, Android ver. 2.3.6, "somethingsomething" S5660XXKT6, Core(?) 2.6.35.7-perf-CL1006648, "mumbojumbo" GIGERBREAD.XXKTI. SuperSU v0.98
Ask for more information if you need it, i´ll try to explain the best I can, english is´nt my language. Me no enklish, me finnish.
... Is it possible to have flash on GIO?
superSU is the app that gives away root acces to apps and to the system.
you need to use wifi or 3G and update the binairy
for usb, make sure you fully disabled Kies and killed it with the task manager

Thanks for reply. SuperSU won´t update, not on wifi or 3G. Just says "update failed".
I have deleted Kies from laptop, cleaned registry, even removed all usb-drivers then restarted laptop(did that with WIN7 an XP-PRO), yell´ed at my neighbours and blamed the cat.
Still no connection, I can connect NOKIA with usb-cable, the cable recharges my Gio but no luck with connecting... I quess that damn thing is broken.
I´ll focus now on removing that superSU, which will be a weeks job at my skills...
Thanks anyway.

Yes, it´s the cable that came with Gio. Can´t find Nokia´s cable so I could try that one. How do I check that if my phone has a custom rom that is´nt suitable or something like that. I really don´t know what that friend of my did to my phone, BUT the problem occured after his I´ll have your phone going like Räikkönen in Abu Dhabi-tuneup.
Really i think u should unroot it if u think root cause this problem.

Just tried that one, correct me if I´m wrong but unrooting is done by using unroot.zip (the one for superSU)? because that did´nt do the trick. For now I have done unroot.zip, wipe all data from phone (to factory re-set or whatcamacallit), boot-> voilá, theres that superSu still, version 0,98 if I recall.
I know that the bigges problem is in front my laptop´s screen, AKA my face, but as I earlier stated, me no computers.
I wish someone would make an app that removes all of these root-thingies and gives you a free nokia 3310
Thanks for reply, I won´t give up. There must be a simple answer for this. I just have to find it, or someone gives it me... Latter the better.
Ooh ooh, FYI, now I have these two app´s in my phone. SuperSU and Superuser, should I just quit fidling with my phone
...and now when I connect my phone to laptop, win7 gives every 3 sec. a message that one of the USB-hardwares is in errormode or something (I´m bad at traslating), it sounds like a intro of a Skrillex-song...

Yep, if you mean flash´ing is done by the the method of power+"that large button at bottom of my phone" and install update->unroot.zip then yes, app won´t go. Do I have a wrong file? Are those files spesific to a certain app? The trick is to get two superuser-apps is klick+klick+yes+fustration+install+hope+i don´t know. If I could I would give you better info... You mean that SuperSU (the one with cyan droid with red cape) and Superuser (the one with green droid and a eyepatch) shouldnt exist in a same phone? This is going straight to the twilightzone.
If you are confused, quess how I feel:laugh:
And either of them won´t update binary...
Oh, and yes, no ( ) I can´t uninstall either of those app, well from phone´s uninstall-section, butt that do´snt uninstall these apps for good... They are still there when I go to settings+apps+manage apps+all-> there they are.

i don't think it related with hardware, root is related with software (OS).
Right, here´s where I´m at. Now my phone IS rooted, it also have android 4.0.4 and CyanogenMod9
Done some fidling you see...
But still no connection via usb, I´m starting to think that it is a hardware-related problem. It does charge my phone, but no connection for file transfer.
So for now I will be happy for these settings.
Just need to get the a2sdgui working propely, can´t move apps from phone to sd.
Thanks for all of you´s for help

I think there's no problem with a rooted phone. You just need to do some homework before you started at it. Let me help you by explaining you some words and some help.
Root: when you root your phone you are able to flash roms on your phone.
Recovery mode: the menu that you get when you touch the on button + the OK button.
Flashing: installing a rom.
Rom: a kind of system on your phone. After rooting you can put these on your phone like iOS or
ICS.
When you are rooting your phone, you need a new recovery mode: Clockwork mode recovery. You can install this as the same way like flashing a rom. After that you can apply the update.zip package. Now your phone us rooted and when you reboot your phone you have a new app: SuperSU (or superuser) This app gives apps permission to other apps. Now you are able to flash any rom you want. Just google on: roms for /thenameofyourphone/ and you get enough results. Some roms are really great and are smooth and have a nice theme like android 4.1 or ios. Just download the rom. Put it on yor sd card. Go into recovery mode (clockwork mode recovery). Backup current rom, do a factory reset, wipe cache and install the rom. After flashing you must reboot your phone and ENJOY!
You can also download link2sd which allows you to move ALL you apps to your sd card. By the way. When you have rooted your phone it isn't bad but you have to read very much and after a while you will understand everything and you will enjoy your favourite rom.
-sorry for bad english-

I finally got mine rooted. Do everything in this post. I was able to remove KNOX and finally get my damn phone rooted! This was used to root my wife's Sprint Note 2 with the OTA 4.3 update. here
is the complete thread if you want to see it all. The link I posted first is the 3rd post from that thread.
Doing those steps WILL FIX your issues with not being able to root your Note 2.
I actually boot looped my wife's Note 2 in the process, so if you do brick/boot loop it, then follow these instructions. That put the phone back to the OTA 4.3 stock version. I had to put my wife's SD card into my phone and add the files to her SD card (provided in the link I just posted) to get it to work. Me being an idiot is how I boot looped her phone. This was the ONLY way I could get it to work... and I tried so many methods I found here, youtube, and online.
Good luck gentleman! Let me know if I can help you anymore!
baseband version
i was wondering if the baseband version could have anything to do with it (im still new to rooting) i have L900VPUBMK4 on my phone but when i looked around in other places i noticed people having L900VPAMK4 is there a difference an could this be why mine wont root
i will try your method above an thanks so much for posting this i will let you know of my outcome

I tried this but when i did the kingo software it immediately asked me to grant supersu an had a button on bottom of kingo that said ok so i look at my phone but no supersu so i still kept going thru the process an then noticed in kingo where its suppose to say what phone type is connected it says samsung device an from seeing it on other sites of people connecting there devices it had there device names reconised so not sure if its not doing that correctly for my phone or what but after running the software which frozen for awhile when it came to the part that said checking root an then it said waiting for device for awhile an then stopped an said root failed

I had the same issue and fixed it like this -
1. Installed ES File explorer and open it.
2. Press Menu on the phone and scroll down and turn ON Root Explorer and hit Back.
3. Choose Device from the top menu (dropdown)
4. From the bottom menu, choose search and search for super and you should see superuser.apk.
5. Choose that and install it.
From there you should be able to disable KNOX and open SuperSu

I tried this to no avail, getting error message 'Application not installed'. The thing is, when I go into the Play Store it says SuperSU IS installed but I only have the option to open it. There is no 'update' option available like I keep reading everyone suggests to do to fix this problem. And when I attempt to open SuperSU, I get the error message 'Unfortunately, SuperSU has stopped' followed by the KNOX security notice 'Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked'.

Same.
Everyone I figured out a simple solution to this. I got my phone back on the 13 from replacement. On the 16 I tried to root for the first time. And KNOX led me into a panic. Reading all the forums and knox blocked every attempt I made, but I neat that ***** into the ground.
1. Get some kind of file Explorer and find the SuperSU apk.
2. ReInstall that bad boy.
3. Immediately after install a message will appear asking if SuperSU can try to disable KNOX.
4. Click it quickly, if you don't knox will try to block it again.
5. You should now have KNOX out of the way. You should now be free to delete that slut!
I chose system app safe remover and searched for all files with KNOX and deleted it. I feel you could probably kill it with any root explorer and know the files you are looking for.

For further clarification, simply clicking on it did not work for me. It gave me an "There is a problem parsing the package."
If you long press on the file then select More from the bottom menu then select Install, it will install properly.
Just wanted to clarify for anybody else who ended up with that issue.
It worked!

This worked for me. Once I reinstalled the SuperUser APK, ES asked for access and everything else fell into place. Thanks!
use esfile to solve it

I got this done by the following:
1. Do exactly as aforementioned instruction, untill you find superuser.apk
2. Hold your finger on that apk icon untill a little squre show up that you can mark it
3. Find "more"(my is at the right lower corner of the screen), choose it and find "install" on your right.
4. Then install.
I dont know why this apk can be installed through es file, basically it still needs to Android to run the installation, yet it works in this way.
have a try and good luck
I keep having to go back into the file explorer and installing it. It will work for a while then out of the blue it pops up and says it has quit. I am very skeptical to try and go through the flash process to install a different ROM. Currently bone stock 4.3 eff bomb. Any suggestions?

Try and use ODIN to flash TWRP then flash @billard412 to get back to MC2 stock, it will remove KNOX and reset flash counters, if any. Then ODIN TWRP again since it will re-install the stock recovery you can then flash the MK4 kernel, WIFI Fix and MK4 ROM of your choice.

Ok....since you tripped KNOX you cant get rid of that but its ok if you are not returning your phone (maybe out of warranty?) then just ignore it.
Flash away!
Ya the warranty didn't mean squat...I went ahead and tried the SGS3 JELLYBOMB VER 20.0.0.MD5 and it went with no problems. Haven't got the SuperSU has stopped since flashing. Thanks for the encouragement here. So far so good.

[Q] Any root for 8.9" new firmware version (8.4.9)???

Hey all! Any help please?
I've tried ALL methods to gain root and as someone mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782266 , no success.
I can get to the reboot after the supposed root, but basically nothing else. No superuser, root-check fails, etc and then the device is permanently slow. Only solution is then a factory reset and back to square one, without any root.
Anyone have any success in rooting the new system version, http://bit.ly/1kgs5L8 8.4.9 ?? I had root in the past but the buggers pushed this one on me and I lost everything, even side-loaded apps (and while we're at it, can I disable these effing updates in the future?)
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117 I was able to root mine on 8.4.9 system version a few days ago with it, using the alternative method C-2 listed in that guide.
Thank you. I'll take a look, give it a try ASAP and let you know.
That worked perfectly! Better than the first root I used and obviously, better than all the one's I've tried since I lost the first. Thank you very much!

Ok, back again.
So, my situation is now this: The root worked, by appearance but somehow, it only seems to be a "partial root", for lack of a better description.
I have SU and Rootcheck Basic installed and it says that I have root, but I can't get the play store to work no matter what, and can't change permissions on the /system/apps folder or write to there when trying to copy the Google Play apk there (attempting to see if I can run or install it there).

To make apps and or system r/w first download ES File Explorer. Install, open, give root permission, on the left side scroll down and click on "tools." Now go down and click "on" Root Explorer. Now click on the actual words "Root Explorer" and select Mount R/W and select r/w for path and system and then click OK.

I don't recall the exact steps, but if you follow link for the method that's on the first one I quote here, and follow it pretty precisely you'll get root. Mainly, some of the most important things I recall are USE THE KFFIRSTAIDE and that tool will basically get you into all the ADB functions you need to get and keep root. There's an option on there to turn off updates, which you need to do immediately after you gain root in order to keep root. Also, something that nobody seems to mention - you need to set the /system folder to r/w so that you can install the play store app or for anything system related to "take".
Ultimately, I would say, start with getting that KFFirstAide installed and communicating with your Kindle. Like I said, it has many functions you can see in it's options window.
Hope this helps! Good luck.

Oh, and also, make sure you have a root checker app installed, for obvious reasons.

This worked in the past for me on a rooted KF, but for some reason, even with (in ES File Explorer), Root Explorer on and confirmed, Mount R/W showing Path / and /system set to RW AND setting rights on the actual folder to RWE, copying the Play Store .apk file fails.
Any suggestions?

I've had root, and TWRP. That lasts only as long as the Kindle stays off. Amazon is noticing, and forcing an update (back to 8.9.4), which breaks root. I think we're going to have to skip root and install something Amazon can't see (or find a way to block OTA updates).

I'm giving this to my grandson to use as his 1st tablet. I've got no more reason to get a Fire tablet now than I do an iOS device. I can get VOD on any android device now so the Fires can remain for the kiddies in the family who need Freetime.

Rooting the KF isn't enough to allow Play Store (or most other Google Apps) to work. You have to go a step further, and change the OS to CM (or similar). As long as Amazon can recognize the device, Google isn't going to function. Just no way around this one.

Lost Root Access (LineageOS)

Hi,
I'm using LineageOS on my LG G3,
After upgrading from XenonHD-170504-Official-d855.zip to XenonHD-170522-Official-d855.zip my Root Access setting (in developer options) has gone and I don't have root access in any app any more. SuperSu generates this error:
Code:
"SU binary occupied"
Also downgrading to the previous Rom didn't solve the problem.
This method (called how-to-enable-root-in-lineage-os-using) doesn't work, and almost all other methods in XDA such as "KingoRoot", "LG One Click Root " and ... didn't work either..
Any solution would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wrong thread
@light-blue: if you flashed with wipe system, you always must flash su.zip to get su-access (since ROMs come unrooted). Use su2.79 for now, because 2.8x are buggy.

Thanks @rp158
When I do it nothing happens .
It says that the zip successfully installed (or something like that), and when I boot into the system again I don't see any root access.
Try this...
STEP 1:
Go to Settings. Click on About phone and then Tap Seven times on the Build number.
STEP 2:
Now to enable ROOT access, open Developer options and then scroll a little bit down on the Developer Options settings and look for the Root access setting, which must be showing Disabled.
Just click on the Root access and set it to Apps and ADB or Apps only or ADB only, as per your need.

The problem is exactly here, The Root Access setting has gone from the developer option
Quite. I had the same issue as you though but a different phone but the above solved it for me. I also ran the su installer that was mentioned on the page you read.
Same issue on OnePlus 2 since last LOS update. I suspect is has to do with "su-hide" (see https://lineageos.org/Changelog-9/) but I have no idea how to fix it.
EDIT: The Developer option solution worked for me. I could have sworn I looked for it before posting. Sorry for the noise.
Try Magisk

So I have a P3100 but in my case the issue was solved by using Magisk. Download the latest zip and try flashing that. The thing is once you are all set up with the apk, go to the menu button within the app and then settings and then scroll down to 'Superuser Access' and simply click and choose the Apps and ADB option. Hope it solves your issue (Atleast it did in my case ).
I tried plenty of things but I can not regain root after flashing LineageOS.
I have tried every root flash on here and nothing worked. I don't understand the thread on here claiming to give you root on LineageOS as it's a load of crap. Really pissed off as I wanted to sell my D855 but now have to wait until someone can root...or just downgrade to LP or something with another ROM that doesn't wipe root on install...
Really unacceptable IMO for any ROM to remove root and not have a guaranteed way to regain it.
