Guys, there is this app called RAM EXPANDER by ROEHSOFT or smth similar. They said that the app can expand your memory. Is this true? I only thought there is this feature called Memory Swap or smth.

Its an app for using swap Ram. If you want to try it, you can use KhaN-Kernel, which already includes this feature. Using a large amount of virtual Ram will slow doen your system

I think he's talking about the RAM. Android manages memory different than OS X or Windows. Full is actually good. People are always going overboard with task killers trying to free up RAM. Android will free up RAM as necessary, so you really shouldn't ever have to worry about it. Unlike Windows when it gets full it puts memory into swap on the HDD slowing it down. Android will just quit the app, because you haven't used it in a while.
Just for reference I have 246MB available on CM7 with a fresh boot. After using it a few hours, I generally have about 90MB free on average.
Hi every one. how could i turn the ram to original space. means 512mb?
My phone is rooted.
Is there anyway to do it?
No...the only usable ram is only 368mb the rest is the the system etc camera, gpu and more...

I have seen 512mb before.one time. is that shows problem or it can be?

I'm not sure,but its impossible to get 512mb ram...most I can get is 220mb free ram =\
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You can't get more RAM than 330MB or so, the rest is for the radio and possibly other system stuff. Why is it a problem though ? Typically (running 2.3 at least) there should be lots of free RAM.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
I saw 512+ before as total ram

That's very interesting because I saw 512MB too but now I have 368MB. Don't remeber when was it probably before rooting and flashing. Is this correct that task manager reports only 368MB as total memory?
Now I have Virtuous Affinity 2.05 and HBOOT from virtuous page. Is this could be the reason?
I always get around 250mb ram rarely 310mb :O
If its the value in About Phone - Hardware Info, i think that can be set to show anything you want in the build.prop file. The most accurate method to check RAM value and free RAM is using "free" in Terminal Emulator.
As discussed, the 512MB is shared between the phone, radio and graphics
I´m just curious here, how much memory do you have free on your phone?
Mine are 148 MB free ROM and 281 MB free RAM.
Does this in anyway correlate to how fast games run?
Bring me some of your numbers! =)
the xperia play has a total of 380 MB ROM , its enough for lots of apps , and if its not , you can always move your apps to SD Card and free some space

That´s interesting. My numbers in the first post is on 4.0.2.A.0.42. I have removed apps that I deem unneccesary and want to make gaming run as speedy as possible.
I wonder if the new update will use more or less RAM than before, or if it even will be a difference?

If you´re rooted you can bring about drastic changes in the memory-area, turn off stuff running in the background eating RAM-memory etc.
I have used titanium backup and deleted a lot of system apps that I don´t use. I use my phone for: Telephoning, Messaging, Surfing, Gaming (emulator), and Google Maps. Nothing more.

All I can tell you do is root and remove system apps. That frees up a lot of space. Also put everything on the sd card.

You must have a misunderstood concept of free RAM. Actually, the less free RAM you have, the faster your apps get. This free RAM is consumed by cached processes invisible to anything else that is not a system app. You can go to the Free RAM screen, press Menu and select Show Cached Processes to see your true free RAM. The more cached RAM there is, the faster it gets. I remember someone here at these forums actually posted the difference between "free" and free RAM, can't remember though. The Xperia Play can run BOTH of them at the same time, just like an iPhone 4S, especially if you are supercharged.

Also using Link2sd with a 2ext 1gb partition(575mb used/443mb free). Internal memory's at 201mb free. RAM is ~200(240 on boot, settles around 202).
-Stock R800x 2.3.3 rooted w/o vzw's bloatware. Ive got zeppelinrox's v6 Supercharger update9 r7 running with option 6 and bulletproof important apps. SetCPU stock speeds, just some profiles. Dalvik linked to sd as well.
I've gotta say it took some tweaking, but this phone is SNAPPY. All thanx to the devs here at xda. Lots of love fellas!
Anyone with the memory booster app. What's the percentages of used and unused ram?
With 2gigs of ram I don't need a memory manager app.
At most I end up using maybe 1gig.
I used one before I upgraded from the Moment.

I have one gig .
How much ram is being used is the question then.
I'm pretty sure memory booster apps are unneeded. Android already has its own built it task manager - Low priority apps will be removed from RAM after all the RAM is used.
If memory booster apps just kill every app, it's seems kind of pointless since having multiple apps open is the point of RAM. Also, unused RAM is useless RAM so it really doesn't matter how much unused RAM you have.

Thats sh..ty. im sorry guy. The 2gigs is worth not having quad core exynos processor. More cores doesn't always mean better

I understand that. I'm not using it to kill apps. Just to check my memory use because it use percentages.

Ah, ok. I don't really know what a memory booster app does so it's partially my fault for not looking it up first.
Just long press the home button and choose task manager all the info you want should be there.
When I reboot and then immediately kill all apps, I have 1.3gb......but I usually have a little over 1gb on average.
how to control running background app to free more RAM on my Arc ?
i used task killer, but apps return to open again and used Autostart to limit the starting apps with system starting, but RAM is consumed by the apps running in the background.
lagging is the meaning of my ARC now.
it's very very annoying .. any help here ?!
Rom : Xperia Ultimate HD™ 2.0.3
kernel : LuPuSv9
the free RAM range always bet. 40 ~ 130
Seems normal for me. I had to disable apps i didn't really use that were using any ram =/
maybe try this script? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928200
Go to settings - programs - all
Tap the ones you dont need and disable
Task killers waste more energy and make your phone even more laggy because you keep clearing processes from the RAM. I could explain all that but it'd take some time which I dont have now -
So I'll just say that free RAM is wasted RAM. Task killers are stupid, something else is causing the lag.
