Root and recovery question - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I just figured out how to s-off/unlock with rum runner after an extremely long and frustrating day.. but I did not obtain root from it. Is that supposed to happen? So now I need root and twrp. What can or should I do? I will use adb or anything to get this moving because I wanna start flashing roms! (; thanks for your responses

Have you flashed a custom recovery? If so all you need to do now is flash this Super SU zip and you'll gain root access.

Custom roms are pre-rooted. As long as you flashed TWRP you can start flashing the rom of your choice. You flash TWRP in Fastboot. Refer to the TWRP thread for instructions.

Okay thanks guys I'll give it a go after work today

Will do. Do I need to flash a kernel or anything or can I just go ahead and flash the Rom
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app

A custom kernel is included in that particular rom.

I was under the impression that *every* ROM, for this phone or any other, includes a kernel.

It does. Sometimes you may get better performance from a custom kernel. YMMV

All roms contain a kernel, but only some contain a custom kernel that can be tweaked.

Is Zedomax root the only one available?

I have a question about Root. Is zedomax root the only one available and if so is it stable? Over seen some people with some issues and want to know if I should wait.

there are issues with it. personally, my phone would not receive incoming calls. YMMV though.
what you can do it flash zedomax, recover back to stock, flash clockwork mod, then flash the superuser file. then recover back to stock.
any problems i had had with zedomax were undone, and i know have root.

Which method? I waited one day too late, and got the 2.3.6 update yesterday - and from what I read, superoneclick doesn't work for SGS 2 that's been updated?
I'm looking for the simple, proven way to do it without having to go command-line

Why not just use Odin to push the recovery Once you have cwm, rooting is almost pointless. Just flash a full Rom / Kernel via zip
Refer to this thread for everything

Unless of course you just want rooted stock ......
Yes in which case just flash the su zip included in the thread ...... He SHOULD want cwm in either case if anything so he can perform nandroid backups
At a minimum though, I'd flash a rooted deodexed/zipaligned/CIQ free stock release ;-)

I personally don't like ROM manager. If you are rooted I would say flash a custom recovery and back up ROMs from there. If you ever brick your phone you can still access recovery while you can't access ROM manager.
About the not being able to back up ROMs, check the backup location or your settings. The rom might not also include that feature. CWM recovery is the way to go for all of that.
OK thanks will try soon.

ROM manager does not play nice with our phones. Look for sfhub's auto root sticky, in there you will find an option to add CWM. Backup from there

You use Odin once to root and flash recovery. After that, you use recovery to flash ROMs. ICS Roms are a special case since we have no working safe recovery on ICS kernels. Read the link I gave you, read the forums. Read read read.
recovery always sticks unless you flash a ROM or kernel that wipes it. Read the OP for roms and kernels.

Might be better off with goo manager and installing twrp. Also when you have an issue, give as much detail so people can be more helpful

Trying Goo manager although when I try to load twrp it forces close, someone help me I want to ROM this up. I'm rooted and have clockwork but have no luck flashing
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
Check the md5 sum and see if it matches up, or if ur lazy re-download the rom, just make sure its for incredible 2. It could be a bad download. Also I believe you have to flash the kernel after the rom as well
Sent from my Incredibly still working
Okay some help here I know it was right ROM, how do I get right kernal ?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
Roms have the kernel included no reason to flash different kernel unless you are wanting to change clock settings or voltages or fix problems such as volumes.

Thank you, okay so can anyone link me with a ROM reliable one ?

ClockworkMod is the recovery I started out with, it should work just fine and will not affect flashing a ROM. After a few weeks I switched over to 4ext recovery. But I would get a little more familiar before jumping around to much. Have you successfully flashed a custom rom yet? One other thing you may check is the radio version, I recommend upgrading to the .312 or .320 radio.
Not on this phone done rooting on nook color and my first Android so I need to flash a radio and a ROM ?

Download condemned cm.7.2 on your PC and put it in the root of your SD card. I hope you made a backup of your old ROM before you tried this seeing as you're not booting atm

I haven't seen this answered (or I'm blind)...Are you S-Off, or HTC Unlocked?
I am s off help me
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Okay sorry correction I am only unlocked do I need to s off ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Now everything makes more sense...The preferred method for flashing roms here is s-off. It can be done without. I believe the method involves extracting the boot.img from a rom then after flashing the rom, flash the boot.img with fast boot. I haven't done it, so I can't give you better details on that, however it is covered at length in many of the rom threads, so I think a search for "boot.img" should get you on your way quickly. You'll probably want to search with the desktop version of xda.
Edit: However, I think the consensus is that getting s-off isn't terribly hard and saves a lot of headache down the road, so I would recommend that. Again, there are threads with all the info you need.
Thank you, looked at s off method and going to try that tonight then I should be churning through Roms thank you !

No problem. I do have one more suggestion. When you are s-off and comfortable with things, find the twrp thread in development. It's my opinion, and I can't say I've tried all the options, but twrp is way easier to use than the normal CWM. There are other options you could consider; 4ext and CWM touch. It's all about the research around here.
