T999L tether to Xbox - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have a t999l, rooted running the root66 method stock Rom. I have Wi-Fi tether router ado working great. However when I connect to Xbox live, it connects and works great, but on the Xbox it has the yellow dot in the middle of the network test and says it's connected but may not function fully. My first question is to get rid of that.
My second question, I'm trying to download maps on black ops 2, it gives me a error saying the server might be having temporary issues or it could be my internet connection.
I can play live great, no lagging, I can play Hulu, Netflix etc great. But those are my only issues.

Sounds like a Blocked Port.

Dumb question, but how do I fix that?
Sent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk

Your Tether App should have the settings. If it doesn't then find one that does. Some apps do allow specific port collection to be opened. Be careful what you wish for.

Is it the dmz option your referring to? This is not quite my language lol.

DMZ is one of the ways to do this. So yes. Try that option.

Tried that, same issue.

I tried uninstalling the game updates thinking they might have been corrupt, that didn't help, and now I can't even update them again.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk

Used my son's mom's phone, same phone, and rom. No issues at all. I tried resetting everything today, even different roms and apps.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk

Figured out that when my Xbox loads the dashboard tiles or downloads game maps is when it takes from my hotspot plan. But regular online multi player doesn't take anything. I'm using the Wi-Fi tether router app.

WIFI (Hotspot) Tether After ICS Update

Anyone found a work around the wifi tether issue? Rooted phone stock ICS.
If you can use Bluetooth then FoxFi + PDANet Tablet works well between me and my tablet. Not sure if it works with a laptop.
Go into titanium backup, and either freeze or uninstall tethering provision.

I don't know if that was exactly the tethering file i uninstalled with TiB, but that one isn't listed for me.
Actually, if i did remove it then that's probably what lets me use the built in tethering (under wireless settings). No redirect page for me... hm...

Wait, what's issue you're having? Are you trying to get back free hotspot for turning your device into a hotspot, or you can't connect?

I froze device management and the tethering provision, works now for me.
Unsure if device management was needed.

I deleted the apk to the HotSpot, and now I have to go all around settings to activate it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of that APK, and either I'm blind, or none of them have an obvious name. If someone could point me to it, it would be awesome. I downloaded Mr. X's zipped rom, but can't find it there.
I could go to the market, and download one of those shortcut thingies, but I don't want those, I want the stock one.
Also, FYI, the only thing that has to be frozen/deleted is the Tethering Provision.

Hi All,
I am having a slightly different issue. I'm rooted and have frozen the 'TetheringProvision 1.04.02.TM'.
When I was broadcasting, my computer wouldn't connect to the network. My workaround was to delete the connection in Windows Network Manager and reconnect.
My tethering icon is different than the above screenshots, I have a T-Mobile branded icon.
Now that I'm able to connect, I'm getting a message in my webbrowser to sign up for a tethering plan. I've tried a User-Agent switcher, but that didn't work... anyone have any suggestions?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the message:
Turn your Smartphone into a Mobile HotSpot!
Share your smartphone's high-speed internet connection with your laptop, iPadĀ®, iPodĀ®, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device.
it sounds like you did everything right that is weird. What browser do you use chrome? try a different browser first. Even though a different user string should have worked. Maybe they are catching on. Dont forget that all the carriers have people in here as well so they all know what we are doing.
Try using a phone or ipod to connect to your hotspot and see if that works.
I'm having similar issues with mobile hotspot. I have tried freezing and deleting Tether provisioning, device management, and a number of other stock services. However no matter what, the T-Mobile icon always appears when I enable hotspot or wifi tethering and I'm limitted to the stupid WEP access with generated keys.
Anyone have a functional workaround for enabling the ICS hotspot service? currently i'm using FoxFi, but would rather have the real deal
I deleted the tethering provisioning directly from system/app and mine is working fine both the usb tethering n hotspot tethering. I used root explorer to do so
ROM manage has a tethering app. Seems to work fine.
I am running rooted stock ICS and could not get tethering to work by freezing tethering manager. Then I installed the WIFI Tether app (the one made by the Titanium Backup people) and was able to tether via that app. That worked for about an hour and now I am getting the TMO upsell screen even when I try to tether through the WIFI Tether app. Any ideas?
You should freeze/uninstalling TETHERING PROVISION.
usb tethering to different devices
Is there any way to tether my data internet to a Xbox like I could do with a computer ?
Just looking for an easier way instead of using my computer as a modem an connecting it that way but that involves changing the proxy and server information on your computer and Xbox. I have manage to do it but don't really want to go through all of that sooooo. I was hoping somebody had a better way.
Here is a couple of videos.
That is due to your data signal. Try to put the phone where you get a strong 4g signal and you will do just fine.
Okay so after some more testing I could not get to work for more than a 20 min window. The best way in my opinion is to bridge the connection from a computer. That way I could watch a full length movie and play hours of need for speed. I just hate adjusting all the server and proxy settings that's all.
i didn't want to start a new thread
so i've been able to tether to my ps3 , but it only seems to work on the 2.54 paranoid android rom with a vpn and wifi tether for root app. anytime i flash a new rom and try the same, it gives me a fail to start ap error and wont work. i've tried it with the new roms and even the newer kernels that support tethering, but it wont work. the tethering will work for my computer on windows and ubuntu, but not my ps3. i really want to move onto a newer rom,(carbon rom is buttery smooth on my phone)but not being able to tether to my ps3 is a deal breaker. does anybody here have a working set-up they could recommend on the newer roms?
sorry about the long post, wanted to give as much information as i could, and thank you for any information you can give me
Im sure this has already been brought to your attention. There is a good thread entitled "T-Mobile blocking Wi-Fi tether" don't know how to link it. Maybe im too lazy but you can find it in the s3 general section. Hope this helps nd good luck.
WiFi Tether from the market works best for me!
I am seeing a lot of negative comments about this app 'wifi tether' and gs III stock. It seems to indicate that it does not play well together. This is why I was asking, because this was my experience today: No consistent connection, it simply drops the tether and the app stops.
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 2
Better get used to it if ur stayin stock. All that works unless u have the means to Bluetooth tether. If u can do it with Bluetooth try foxfi. Normal tether doesn't work with it yet. Also if u haven't done so, in addition to setting gnex profile in the tether app and unchecking the disable wake lock option, delete ConnectionManager.apk from /system/app. Probably the cause of your tethering woes
Thanks for confirming
WiFi Tether works for me just fine (gotta select the GNexus CDMA/LTE profile).
The only hiccup I've found is that before I activate tethering, I often need to do a fresh reboot on the GSIII, or else it will claim its broadcasting, but it really isn't.
And, of course, root IS required for this particular app.
I don't know enough about the rules on posting links so................
I did a google search for "wifi tether versions"
Down toward the bottom of the results I came across a page from the androidpolice site.
Right above the row of three screen shots is the following sentence: (If it does get pulled, however, you can always grab the apk from Here).
Click on the word "Here" and it will take you to the android-wifi-tether project home page.
Click on downloads and that will get you to where you want to be.
I am running Jelly Bean on my GS3 and have yet to be able to get wifi tether or foxfi to work at all.
I am about to start at the oldest version of wifi tether and work my way forward until I find something that works.
Until I find something stable, I will be using pdanet for wired tether. Hey, it works all day long for me.
On EDIT.............
Ignore most of the above and just google "android wifi tether project"
It will cut out most of the steps and is the first result on google.
Dang, I've been here almost two years and still considered a new member?
Had to wait 5 minutes before I could edit the post with better info.
Trust me, I'm a real person........not a spam bot!
Sure it has something to do with post count.
Any luck with older versions of wifi tether?
Not yet.
Work got real busy right after I made the post and I wasn't able to go through the apk's.
I have to go over to another house and do a few hours worth of work before I can really get in and mess with these.
It may be late this evening (for me) but I am still going to try and run through them.
Sorry about the delay.
I wasn't able to do anything with this until this morning.
I was unable to get any of the versions to work with JB.
This is the best I can do for you.
Also, check your security settings. Some devices will not see a wireless network with security settings it can't support.
Rarely, because it's an international thing, channel settings can also prevent discovery. Just something to think about. Not that it should be an issue but may want to double check.
Android has issues with ad hoc sometimes. Certain devices like the Kindle fire can only use infrastructure based wifi due to the chipset used and/or the drivers included. Infrastructure mode is a more robust and stable network vs ad hoc too. I get about an extra 20' in range on infrastructure vs ad hoc. On infrastructure I can cover my entire 3600 sqft house with 1 access point getting 2-3 bars at the farthest end of the house, with ad hoc the back side of my house gets very weak or no signal at all. If your router/hotspot is capable I'd recommend settinf it up in infrastructure mode with the same ssid and security key (if you use one) and go from there
You said your phone's reception sucks at work. I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong. Are you trying to get better data connection or phone connection? If phone, piggybacking off a router or PC won't help you to make calls if you can't now, unless you're using some form of voip on the phone. The SMS and phone voice run on the same line (I think). If you put the phone into airplane mode, but turned on wifi, you wouldn't receive calls or text. You'd only be able to do data. You have to be on a sprint tower to use the phone part.
Also, if you want your phone to get on adhoc and you can't now, you need a modified wpa_supplicant file for this phone. I don't know how to mod the file but a simple file swap and reboot would do it. At least that's how I did it with my original sprint galaxy 7" tab.
Reception is fine, it's just that data speeds at work are painfully slow. If I have a lot of apps to update on my phone, would be nice to just piggy back into the work network and do it that way.
My research has indicated that I'll need a modified wpa_supplicant, like you said, and I've tried some that are floating out there but they all seem to bork my wifi and I haven't been able to locate one specifically for the E4GT. Also, I have no idea how to mod it myself lol
