I'd like to try a couple other roms since the one i am on seems to be having a few issues AND I would like to eliminate that its the rom and not my phone...
I do have a Philz backup of the synergyrom with my settings on my sd card. If I dont like the new rom, or have issues, can I just go into Philz and restore my backup without needing to reflash the synergyrom first, then the backup?
Thx!
Yes you can. BUT you need to make sure you back up your current ROM to your external SD card not internal because it can easily get deleted by doing a data wipe. Just to be safe I always put my backups on my external SD card.

i have the same problems. After backup by the rom manger, my mobile can't keep reboot. I have tried restore, but it seems can't read my sd card.I have reformat hte sd card and do a full wipe. After i put back the .zip into the sd card and to flash a rom back, it can't. It seems can't read from my sd card. Can anyone give me a big help? I want to boot up/flash a rom 1st.
Do not use Rom Manager for anything because it is useless and causes more problems than solves them. Have you tried to enable your SD card as a USB through the recovery so it'll boot up on your PC? If that doesn't work seems that the partitions have messed up and you'll need to format it or something. Also, if you do get it to work, don't restore the backup, just wipe the data and caches then install a custom rom.
It's probably a USB Brick... read about a fix here:

So I am currently running CM7 7.0.3.1 on my Evo. I decided to update to the 7.1 RC1, so I did a nandroid backup then flashed it. It worked perfect, but when I went to flash the Mattedblues theme, I got bootloops, so I restored back to my 7.0.3.1 backup. Now when I look at my home screens all I see is this. Those were all my apps that were missing on my SD card. They are apps with official install to SD card support.
When I go to manage applications, then SD card, I see this. They are there but will not let me move them back to the phone or anything.
Why is it doing this? How can I fix it?
Nobody can help?
First off are you're using the official move to SD feature and not one of the third party options requiring an EXT partition?
If you're using the official method then those apps are stored in the the encrypted android_secure folder on your SD card. It's my understanding the have to back it up using recovery just like you would a normal partition.
So I went to flash Cyanogen mod nightly this morning and I made a new backup of my stock rom to restore in case of any issues. screen displayed back up complete and I double checked I read that correctly due to many a issue with CWM on past devices. I flashed Cyanogen to find it was stuck on boot. I go to restore back up and no files found.
FML
I managed to get cyanogen working but I want my stock back
Anybody else had this issue?
Did you back up to internal memory or microsd card? Restoring a backup needs you to also select either back up from internal or external memory. If you know all this then maybe you have a fake micro sd card (if you backed up to external memory). Little more info on where you backed up your nandroid and whether it could be stored on a "5-dollar 32GB chinese micro sd card".
I also remember having had a similar problem, but that was due to a rom I flashed that needed another version of CWM, so I then had to re-flash the CWM from before to be able to recover my old backups. I think that should not be the case anymore though... I hope.
May be you saved the back up on internal sd and it got wiped after full wipe. ...I always save back ups on external sd

Hello guys,
I have a problem, help would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I did and what happened.
I was on JellyKat 6.7 but phone kept reboting so I decided to do dirtyflash of the same ROM. What could go wrong, right, after all - it is a same ROM
After flashing JK and 3 OTAs from TWRP the phone booted fine. But after a while I noticd that I can't write to internal SD card.
After more playing, I noticed that I can write to internal SD from \data\media\... but not from \storage\...
Since nothing worked, I decided (bad choice again) to wipe the internal SD. After all, I have a backup on ExtSD of all important folders.
After formatting IntSD from recovery (and wiping dalvik&cache), I still couldn't see internal SD (from \storage) but I also couldn't see EXTERNAL storage as well!
Putting the SD card in the reader I checked that it is visible on PC. Uhhhh, didn't lose my data!
Now. With problems with both int and ext SD.... what do I do to repair it??? The phone boots OK, but no storage is available
Thanx!
edit:
I formatted extSD card on my pc to FAT32 (was exFAT) so now I can see it from recovery (but still not from the ES explorer when the phone boots).... will try to restore nandroid of 4.3 I have....
edit2:
OK, flashed Philz (since my nandroid backup was done with that), and restoreing... keeping my fingers crossed. If this fails, is it safe to flash STOCK Samsung 4.1.2 ROM from Odin (I'm on MJ5 bootloader so no Knox)?
edit3:
Seems my backup was 4.1.2 But it worked. I see both int and ext cards. Luckily it is rooted. I'll try flashing JellyKat now all over again.... Hmmm, hope I'm still on MJ5? Can nandroid restore bootloader?
edit4:
I'm on MJ5 So hurray to flashing! Actualy, before flashing I have to restore files to SD card which might take a while.... so far on 4.1.2
edit5:
Flashed JellyKat, so far so good
I know this should be directed to the twrp forums but I wanted to get feedback from owners of the sprint lg g3 preferably using the CM12.1 android version 5.1.
I have always had this issue where I am unable to flash roms on my external sd card via twrp. Everytime I try (just tried again tonight), after over and hour of restoring, it was only at 10%. When I flash the same rom on the internal sd (memory) it only takes about 10 minutes to accomplish the entire restore, its the same way for backups too. I don't understand why I am unable to do backups and restores from my external sd. It is very inconvienant to keep moving the backups from external to internal and vice versa. Plus, I can never put more than 1 backup on my internal because they take up so much space (roughly 8gb). It doesn't matter what backup rom I flash it does the same thing. Has anyone else been able to flash roms from their external sd card and if so, what did you have to do to get it to work? I have sent my concerns to the twrp team with no replies back. I am just curious if others are having the same problem or if their has been a fix for this.
I am currently on version 2.8.5 of twrp.
Does anyone have any suggestions or feedback on this issue? Thanks
Hey mate,
You could try installing the TWRP version for the G3 from their app, rather than just the generic version for any phone. If that doesn't work, then it sounds like your SD Card could be corrupted. I backup my whole phone to my external SD Card before I flash any updates or anything else, and can install the ROM updates from my SD Card with no problems whatsoever.
All I can really think of is either a new SD Card, or the official TWRP for the G3 from their app.

Thanks for the response. Do you have a G3 also? I have installed the official bumped version of twrp for my sprint phone and am still having issues. Just by curiousity, when you are in twrp, are you able to backup and restore directly to/from the sd card. I do not have any issues with my card other than this, I can transfer and move files, etc. I have noticed though on my 64 gb scandisk card that when it first boots up, it will say not able to retrieve location. I put a different card in the phone and that message stopped which makes me believe it has something to do with the card. That location message just started about a month or two ago.

It turns out that it was something to do with the external SD card. I replaced it with a brand new card and i am able to backup and restore to/from the external card with twrp.
