i have an att htc one x+ im unlocked with custom recovery twrp
ive flashed 4 different custom roms and have not flashed the boot kernel
and each time they have all booted up fine but some didnt act right once the phone was done booting up
my question is does the custom kernel have any change on the rom being flashed or are they two different things
my reasoning for flashing the custom rom is i thought it would change some settings and enable me to recieve 4g lte threw metropcs
you have to change kernel with every custom rom...i mean everytime you have to flash boot.img file from rom.zip for every custom rom
And you are actually in the wrong forum, so please do not make the mistake to flash roms and kernels from here !
Please go to the one x + section
delete
please delete the thread didn't realize I put this in the wrong thread after many attempts ive got unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery
im not sure what to do now im just trying to get 4g lte speeds on my att htc one X+ but no matter what i do nothing works
for all purposes this forum is awesome help out of alot of trouble thanks

i have a unbranded wildfire s 2.3.5 unlocked bootloader via htc dev with cwm recovery 5.0.1 and rooted. i watched some videos of MrTaco505 from youtube about overclocking and rooting. i flashed mine with OCkernel2.3.5.v2 by jikantaru.zip hoping to enable me to setcpu on the phone. after flashing the phone just freezes after boot. i installed it with stockkernel.zip for wildfire s hoping to correct the problem but after flashing the phone is stuck on white htc logo. i have several questions in mind that needs clarification
1. does roms here have their own kernels inside their package?
2. how long does it take for a rom to flash it? and what would the phone look like? (i havent tried thisa nd scared of doing this but i dont have other choice coz my phone is unusable)
3. what are the standard procedures in flashing a rom?
4. since i have no choice, im flashing a rom in cwm recovery using sdcard. is this safe?
5. does a rom like unofficial cm7.2 for wildfire s have its own kernel inside the package? do i need to download another kernel for the rom?
thank you for all your answers. any help would be a gift to me since i only have this phone at the moment. -simone-
1 - Yes, most custom roms come with a working OC kernel
2 - Depends on the size of the ROM. but usually no longer than 5 mins
3 - You have cwm. standard procedure is to install a rom in a zip format. btw you really should update cwm and flash the latest official versio 5.0.2.8
4 - as written above, this is the standard way to flash custom roms. it is safe
5 - All roms, wether they're custom or stock ship with a kernel. but custom ones most of the time come with an OC kernel.
Hey all, I just have a few quick stupid questions after researching and not coming up with the answers............ Sorry if they have been answered before, I did search for ages before resorting to asking stupid questions
Can I flash a custom kernel onto a HTC ONE X with the stock ROM in place, without modifying the stock ROM?
From what I have found the RADIO is a part of the kernel??..... does this mean I need to find one to suit my country(optus AUSTRALIA) or am I able to flash the radio seperate?
Basicly, Im wanting to add the infamous sweep2wake by show-p1984 to my stock operating system
Thanks in advance
Bootloader
locked/unlocked?
Only possible unlocked
Stock rom
Rooted/Unrooted?
Only possible with root
CWM recovery installed yes or no
Only possible with cwm flashed?
but apart from that yes it can be done
Kernel is flashed seperate from the radio so no issues there
Im just now going through the motions of unlocking bootloader and recovery.... do I just go with the newest version of recovery?
(im following the for dummies guide)
By only possible with CWM flashed, do you mean CWM recovery? or it can be only flashed through CWM?
And im not to sure wether the factory ROM is rooted or not yet
NONO i mean clockword recovery installed..
U need to flash the kernel in fastboot....(bootloader mode)
Just keep on reading and follow ALL the steps
U`ll be alright ( and the stock rom is NOT rooted)
legend ! Thanks heaps, yeah definatly reading everything twice before going ahead
I have a Note 8 but as I live in China I comes with the Chinese firmware withouth gapps support.
I was able to use a root exploit and noticed someone posted a stock rom in the development forum.
I would like to flash this rom but I am wondering how to get started, as I understand there is no CWM yet
so the only bootloader is the standard e3. Can that one be used to flash the rom?
Thnx
Are you trying to flash back to stock? As in like you got the phone out of the box? Or are you trying just trying to flash a stock ROM? There's a big difference between the two.
Flashing a ROM is done via a custom recovery, not Odin ....
I flashed a different stock rom
Hi
So I wanted to flash a different stock rom as bought mine in China where I live and it does not come with gapps
I ended up using the international stock rom provided in the development forum using the note 8 toolkit also provided
In the development forum. First it installed insecure boot, then the custom recovery system using odin.
The custom recovery did not work properly as the screen was rendered incorrectly upon selecting every other
Item in the recovery menu, but I managed to work my way through it and then install the international stock rom.
Worked like a charm and I now have a fully operational note 8 instead of a crippled chinese version
I cannot post in the development forum, but to everybody there a big thank you
I apologize in advance if this already exists in a thread, but I can't seem to find the exact problem that I am having on here.I flashed team win recovery project via Odin and rooted with a clockworkmod flashable superuser zip. I am on firmware UMVMD5 android version 4.1.2. everytime that I try to flash a custom kernel it soft breaks the phone. I thought that this phone comes with an unlocked boot loader? no matter what ROM I am on it soft bricks. I make sure that if I am on a TouchWiz rom I've Flash a TouchWiz kernel. And vice versa. will someone please tell me what am i doing wrong or give me a link that explains what I am doing wrong? also, I want to add that i unlock my sim card slot and am using net 10
How are you flashing the Roms and kernels? Also, make sure the recovery is up to date.

Link to the kernel you are flashing.
@yourbabysdaddy
With Touchwiz Rom, you have to flash Touchwiz kernels. AOSP Kernels will softbrick. Always take a nandroid before experimenting.
I'd try KT747 Touchwiz version Not AOSP.
Also please post the name and version of the Kernel you tried.
Hello everyone. I am new to the HTC One (m7wlv) but not new to htc or rooting/flashing etc. I am s-off and my bootloader is unlocked, and i am running the stock rom rooted and debloated. I want to get a custom kernel on here, but i cant seem to get any to stick. By that i mean i have tried several, and they all flash with no errors. But when i reboot, the kernel is still stock and unchanged. I have tried all three different recoveries, ive tried regular flashing and flashing with htc dumlock. What am i missing here? Can you not use a custom kernel with a stock rooted rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need an insecure Boot.img in your current rom, to allow it to be overwritten.
My Stock rom has an insecure Boot.img in it.
You could fastboot flash that Boot.Img and then flash the custom one.
You should be able to just fastboot flash the new kernel, if it is packed into a Boot.Img.(most custom kernels aren't)
If it's packed in Anykernel style, then you will have to repack it into a Boot.img from your rom, or do what I suggested above and then flash it.
Essentially you are on an unrooted, secure stock Boot.Img that will not allow for the kernel to be overwritten.
Chances are, that the modules did flash though and you probably ended up just breaking wifi...and maybe more.
How are you going about flashing a kernel?

Couldnt have said it better myself. tank you santod.
i would recommend backup up user data and flash Santod debloat stock 4.3 and everything should be good from there.
Thank you guys. Im off to try it out now.
Thanks again guys. I fastboot flashed the boot.img from your rom, and then the kernel and it worked. Time to tinker with some settings.
