I'm used to using a Sense ROM as my daily driver but since CM7 RC1 came out, I've been using that one. I flashed the 07 SavageZen kernel and for some reason or another it's horrible battery life compared to the stock on that comes with the ROM. I couldn't figure out a way to see if I had a wakelock issue since the ROM has no details such as total up time vs wake time. I've tried looking at Spareparts but honestly I can't decipher how to find which app is wakelocked...
Before you flame and troll, I did search and I've seen posts asking about wakelock but never really a solution being posted...
In spare parts battery history, then partial wake usage. That should tell you if you have a wake issue with an app. It's kik messenger for me so I just force stop it when I'm done using it.

When I was unrooted on stock I would usually get about 16 hours a day on batter. I rooted and used stock rom and same battery life. My battery life started draining after I started flashing roms. I had goodness rom and had great battery life for about a week. Then it started draining like nuts. So I switched. I am now running on FREEGS3 I did a complete wipe and to no avail I get bad battery life. I used titanium backup and removed some bloatware but still only getting about 7 hours of battery life. I stay on wifi at home. It drains faster if I am connected to 4G. What am I doing wrong here? I thought freegs3 was supposed to have insane battery life. Any help is appreciated...
Not a clue you provided 0 information to help us help you. Specific rom build, kernel, settings for screen, sync, etc battery stats in a screen cap
Download better battery stats and open it and let it sit in the background for a day then check the stats and post a screen cap that'll give more info to go on. No one can tell you why your battery life sucks from "my battery life sucks, help"

What evil said for sure...but I can tell you it has to b your settings or a rogue app because I get insane battery life from FreeGS3 v2.0.0. I don't have LTE available too me yet, but I always leave screen brightness on high, auto sync on, Wi-Fi, data and Bluetooth always on and with moderate use I routinely get 15-16 hours and one time with lite use I got 1 day 3 hours. I did disable the connection optimizer through titanium backup.

Info
Sorry for the lack of info in the last post. I'm still new to all this. I've rooted a Droid Charge, Galaxy Nexus and an EVO 3D but never used the forums for anything other than finding ROM's, so forgive my ignorance. Any ways, here's some info.
ROM: FreeGS3 JellyBean v3.0.0 - I installed it with the stock rom and the stock kernel it came with, but replaced the kernel to include bootanimation supper.
Kernel: LJ7KernelWithBootanimationSupportFIXED.zip Which shows up as below under "About Device" in the settings.
Kernel version
3.0.31-329968

As for screen settings, I have all of the power saving options enabled under power saving mode in the settings; CPU power saving enabled, Screen power saving enabled, Background color enabled, Turn off haptic feedback enabled. Automatic brightness is on also enabled.
Here's a screenshot of the battery screen under settings. This is after a full charge. I just downloaded BetterBatteryStats and will repost the results tomorrow. Going to let it run all night as I use it.
Thanks and sorry again. Will try to do better.
Your media is pretty high, do u have things set to auto sync? Like playstore backup, dropbox, picasa uploader etc? Looks like you have something syncing alot like music, photos, videos or backups or something like that
For comparison heres mine, notice media server is only @ 3% and yours is ar 18%

Here's some screenshots I took a little bit ago. The media thing has disappeared from the battery stats altogether. The settings under my google account were all checked, but I did uncheck as you see in the screenshot. I also have a samsung apps account but disabled the sync in it already. Those are the only two accounts I have. The "Media" already disappeared before I unchecked picasa and google movies and tv, neither of which do I use. I do use google play music though. Could that had been what was appearing in the battery stats earlier as media? Other than these few settings in my google account and the samsung account I don't know what else could be syncing. What is the "Internet" sync for under the google account and should I uncheck it?
Thanks

Been on "Goodness" since 7.0.0 with whatever kernel was included (stock I believe) and nothing but stellar battery performance so far. I am on wifi all day though.
Have you thought about getting a new battery? I'm think about doing this. Battery life is just "okay" for me now.

Do you use google play music? cause its causing wake locks. My phone never went into deep sleep. It was 100% awake. Rebooting should solve it. Till you use google music again of course.

I dunno guys. It has gotten sporadic. The other day my battery lasted 9 hours. Then I charged it and it only lasted 5 hours. One time I check on the battery under settings and it said that the "Android OS" was using most of the batter. The last time I check it I got a screenshot and it said that the "Phone" was taking most of it and I didn't even call any one. I'm thinking of just doing a true wipe, and unrooting the phone and counter reset. Just to see what battery I get by going comoletely stock. Then maybe rerooting it. At the moment, I don't know what is happening and I really don't think the rom or the kernel has anything to do with it. I installed betterbatterystats and I don't know really know how to read the data.. I'm just stumped... blegh...

EvEFreeze the Sprint connections optimizer.
I've read those power saving mode things are counterproductive so i don't use them.
One thing that drastically helped me was navigating to system/bin using a file explorer, locating gsiff_daemon and qosmgr and renaming them to include .bak at the end. These are know battery hogs although I'm not smart enough to tell you why. You can always rename them back if it doesn't work. Be sure to reboot after renaming.

I did locate qosmgr as I noticed it was going nuts when I would display the cpu usage under developer options. I have heard of the other one but haven't noticed it running. Oh well may as well give it a shot. I have the connection optimizer turned off so it won't keep searching for a wifi connection and I can just turn wifi on and off as wanted. I do, however have the power saver options turned on. They worked great for me when unrooted. Hmm. Next task will be to locate that other file and rename it. Worth a shot.

I added some screen shots of my battery stats...One with over 6 hrs screen time which is just insane. Another with 4.5 hours screen time using 67% of battery. I highly recommend Odexed Blue ROM. Ever since i flashed it my battery is off the charts.
The connections optimized sometimes will turn itself back on. Turn it off then freeze that $#!%

As mentioned in my other post in this thread. I'm considering it just to see if I still get the awesome battery life I used to get before I rooted. Then from there I would root again. Just a consideration if my battery life doesn't improve.

Yeah I know it isn't from rooting. It is just I don't know what caused the battery drain.. I installed odexed blue, and I got a major increase in battery life. Only problem is I don't like the ROM because it's just too much blue for me. Lol I don't mean to be picky.. just hurts my eyes.. why? I dunno. But the battery life is great so far. So now I just need to find the right ROM. Ugh.. maybe just a stock ROM and kernel with the lame ol' Samsung boot up and shutdown animations. Hmmm.. but thanks for your help. At least now I know it is draining due to something in the ROM or kernel.

Hi All. I've been getting random screen of deaths on my gnex on 4.2.1.
On xylon, aokp mr1 build 1, cm10.1 m1, even on stock JPO40D. I'm having a hair pull moment here.
And it happens at odd moments too.. while browsing, using maps, pulling down notifications, playing bubble blast, watching dailymotion, etc..
Even on different kernels.. stock, anarky, franco, lean...
Is this happening to anyone else?
Can anyone shed some light my way?
Edit: sorry for posting in the wrong section. overlooked that we had a Q&A
Sent from my maguro gnex using Tapatalk 2
4.2.1 is a hit or miss, for some ppl its great while others are having issues with it... if you are getting SODs on ALL kernels then i recommend you go back to 4.1.2 and wait for 4.2.2 to be released and hope that it fixes all the issues that 4.2.1 had
PS- question are supposed to posted in the Q&A section not in the general section
I am one of the miss guys. It happens to me when I run a kernel control app ie. Francos, trip trickster, and even built in and certain kernels. If I keep the stock kernel with no kernel controls I get no sods. Some kernels I can use as long as I don't use any of the control apps. It took me a month or so of installing and uninstalling apps, kernels and so on to narrow it down. But ya you are rite hopefully 4.2.2 will fix the GPS and sod problems

one of the reasons why i went back to stock 4.1.2 with leankernel (slightly stock modified, not 1million tricks on it), and that i got a really good battery life.
i dont miss lot of features of 4.2.. so i can wait a fix on a future update without any impatience
I also am fine on 4.2 as long as I run either a stock or a stock cm kernel. I tried a couple of others and they both resulted in sods.
Do you have animations turned off? Known bug that the animator duration set to off causes sod.

Just wondering if deep sleep shows in CPU spy with this phone? Its always appearing as an unused state and I believe its destroying my battery life. Tried Better battery stats but it isnt showing any serious wake locks.. so thats what got me wondering whether im looking at the correct stat.
Edit:Latest whompasaurus w/ perseus kernel. Was doing the same on slickricks 4.2 roms though.
No, it works fine. Mine absolutely goes into deep sleep....
BUT, never when the power is plugged in. Only on battery.
I had a similar issue where no wakelocks showed, and no deep sleep but it turned out to be a cool sidebar app I had installed. (Sidebar Lite)
I ended up uninstalling it and the issue went away. Pity cause I liked the idea of that app too.
Re: [Q] deep sleep on CPU spy?
Yeah mine is getting 0% deep sleep on a clean install besides titanium and cpuspy on every rom I've tried incl. PA, vanilla rootbox, and whomp. Cant figure it out. My screen is cracked. Could that have something to do with it I wonder?

Try disabling/uninstall the PIE controls (if you have them activated). I wasn't getting deep sleep on Whompasaurus 2.9 at all, then flashed over to MacksROM All Star 3.0 and deep sleeped quick. Now i know it could be the difference in ROMs, but on WHOMP I had the PIE controls active, on Macks, there's an issue with the PIE controls that cause it to Force Close (there's a fix, just haven't done it yet), so I removed the app from my system folder and am getting good deep sleep on my phone.
Just a thought, let us know if this works for you!
I'm seeing no deepsleep courtesy of a mdm_hsic_pm0 wakelock on v20.1PACMan ROM. Pie controls disabled. Was sleeping fine on previous build... I think something in Cyanogenmod or aokp changed recently...
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Well curiously the one thing all the roms I've tried have in common is PIE but I uninstalled the LMT apk to no avail. Are there other apks?
What's this "PIE controls"?
This program I don't have. Mine's a fairly cleaned up STOCK deodexed rom.

It wouldnt be on a stock rom. Check out the paranoid android thread for more info.
Hmmm. It's an addon like Sidebar. Sidebar never let the phone go to deep sleep because it was always monitoring the side of the screen. Looks like this may be doing the same thing. I don't know for sure, just speculation based on the previous comments and my experience with these types of addons.
So can anybody else check to see if they're getting deep sleep on the roms I mentioned?

HALP !
I'm running the october builds of the cm11 gee version. And i've been experiencing battery drain when the phone is idle. For eg. Overnight my phone dropped from 56-49 % doing nothing. I'm running this build with the built in kernel (Matr1x) and gapps from cyanogenmod's website. I tried 9/26, 10/01, 10/06, 10/13....all with the same battery drain problem. The ROM is solid and the battery life under usage is amazing (especially with jolla kernel). But battery keeps draining when the phone is idle (even with jolla kernel). This is really frustrating. Any help would be appreciated

I noticed the same 1% per hour deep sleep airplane mode drain with both Matr1x and Jolla on my E975 running latest PA. I personally have found faust93's modified Franco to be solid. It gives good battery performance---no drain in airplane mode. You can find it here xep dot 8800 dot org slash e957. Latest version ends with 2010.

Welcome. One thing that we both implied but didn't spell out is that both the said Matr1x and Jolla are modified with the stock camera port. As far as I know, the modified Franco and UKS by faust93 are the only other kernels as of now that support stock camera driver. For me personally, as mentioned earlier, Franco worked out better when it comes to energy efficiency. On the other hand, the drain problem while sleep in airplane mode does not seem to exist with kernels using the Mako driver---AK, Matr1x, MiRaGe, etc---all seem to hold their juices just fine while idling away.. Have a good one.
Thankyou bud. Will give franco a go

I hear you. Battery performance is one thing that I am sorta obsessed with in a phone. As I mentioned, I'm on the latest Paranoid Android (4.6 Beta 5) with faust93's Franco 2010 build. When I switch the phone to airplane mode, which is a bedtime routine, it wakes up the next day without losing any juice.
Personally, I think going with official CM11 is a good choice because of its more consistent level of development and support. Like you, I've tried a whole bunch of "private" Roms. At the end of the day, these are usually spare-time endeavors by one or two hobbyists. As a user, you are more or less at the mercy of the devs. Bigger teams like official CM11 and PA reduce this risk somewhat.
Have you troubleshot with Better Battery Stats, which could give you a hint on potential culprits? I've recently found another non-placebo battery saver app call Lion Tamer. You can download via Play and should be able to find a related XDA thread.
Rubin
The only thing i hate about official cm11 is that it's CAF based, which means i can't try all the awesome aosp/mako based kernels on cyanogenmod. Which is why this unofficial version of cm was the perfect solution for me. However the drain issue is just killing me. I get 5.40 hrs sreen on time in around 1 and 1/2 day of usage in official cm11, which is really awesome battery life. But i just don't know why the battery starts acting all crazy when i flash the unofficial build. Gotta give it one more shot.
When I get back tomorrow night I'll do some comparisons with the gproj base and see what I can borrow.
This is getting to me also.

Battery drain when idle
Battery drain when phone is idle is still persistent It actually happens with every gee based build. Only gproj based builds are holding their juices.
Hey @MikeEx what is the solution for the idle battery drain ??
Is there some known problem regarding device encryption?
I tried to encrypt my E975 device but it keeps replying "Bad Password" (which isn't wrong) or restarts before it comes to the pin screen.
Things tried:
- Whiping all partitons / Clean reinstall from scratch
- Stock Kernel / Jolla Kernel tested
Used version: cm-11-20141216-UNOFFICIAL-gee.zip
The latest build of this rom gives me very good battery in standby and usage with Matr1x kernel and ondemand gorvernor.
But the gpu is always scaling on highest freq... Any solution?

So, I wanted to update people in case they had a similar situation. After not being able to tether initially, I lost GPS yesterday. GPS had been rock solid for about 2 months. The strange thing was that I never lost data.
I was able to fix the situation by using CWM to back up the 1/25th build, flashing back to stock, restoring EFS and getting a solid GPS lock, and then restoring back to the 1/25 build. GPS and tethering now work fine with the 1/25 build.
I hope this information helps someone.
