Data Drops and cant find a guide that works. Help please - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

So I hope someone can help me out. I am still having data drop issues. I have tried 3 different ways to get this thing working with no luck. And under mobile networks if I have WCDMA/GSM selected it will drop and auto reconnect, but if I have the LTE one selected once the data drops it will not come back up.
I have re-flashed radios from the different guides on both a 4.2.2 rom and a 4.3 base TW rom. I have fallowed all the guides in the links below.
I am on a 4.3 rom
Bootloader does not list any knox info, so I assume I am on a 4.2.2 bootloader (is there any way to confirm)
Baseband modem 4.4.2 Current (Former 4.3)
LTE is 4.2
I have been fighting with this for the last few weeks and any help to get me out of this connection hell would be awesome.

Chronic Mobile Data Issues with MK2 Baseband regardless of ROM

I never had any issues with my old M919, which is still sitting in a drawer awaiting a new display assembly I cannot afford. It was running CM 10 perfectly and no issues with HSPA or LTE. I was suffering for a while with an HTC Espresso which I could not S-OFF due to HBOOT being incompatible with AlphaRev. Anyway, I ended up with my old roomate's M919 about a week ago and have had nothing but issues getting mobile data to work properly.
It already had the MK2 Baseband installed-though I did not bother to check if it worked on the stock 4.3 ROM he had already installed. Nor did he ever say anything about issues. Anyway, I tried almost all of the Infamous ROM's(and all the kernels available with AROMA) as well as Cyanogenmod 10.2. All ROM's have major issues maintaining mobile data connection regardless of network mode or which cell I am on. Wi-Fi works flawlessly however. Also, to note, my fiance is running MK2 on her stock M919 so I have had a reference of which type of cell we are on and its signal strength.
So, finally I flashed the MK2 modem manually and rebooted into CM 10.2. That just made it completely unable to connect to any type of network although Wi-Fi worked just fine. So, now I am attempting to reinstall Infamous S4 from a full wipe to see if that will work, but after that I am out of ideas.

Have you checked your APN settings (versus your fiancés) to make sure they are correct? And to be completely fair, you could post in one of the many CM threads like this one here, you will target a much larger and focused support base. :good:
The whole mdl / mk2 radios are a mess. There are 2 radios, one for lte and one for hspa and below. The LTE one stays mdl and only the other is upgraded because of knox installation that some people are worried about (their warranty).
I believe what you may want to do is install the ota official for 4.3 to get all the correct radios and just forget about the warranty. There have been ways to reset the knox counter later down the road if you want to claim your warranty but I do not recall any guides.
I've started a thread here too for some clarifications on this subject so check that for answers too

First, there is currently NO METHOD to reset your KNOX counter, please do not give wrong information (which is why we have THIS thread).
Second, a link to this thread of yours would be useful, if you only linked it.
Third, "correct" radios are already freely available on XDA without taking the 4.3 OTA. He may have flashed an improper or incompatible modem.bin file, which is why his problem is occurring.

Correct radio's without knox means that there is still an old LTE radio which creates and has been creating lots of problems for people.
I don't care about a flash counter anyway, and sorry did not mean to spread mis-information.
My thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609962
the only answer I was given was one that told me to do the exact thing I didn't want to do, which is to flash the GSM MK2, but leave the LTE MDL.
-------------
I'm looking to see if anyone can help me find a way to flash the OTA update which contains KNOX (which includes the MK2 LTE) and also the MK2 GSM radio's.
The only downside I see to flashing KNOX (and the MK2 LTE) is this flash counter. I believe I heard somewhere you may not be able to flash new kernels, but I'm not sure if that is correct or not. If it is correct and I can not flash new kernels, I also do not care and don't know why so many people are okay with LTE radio's that go out all the time vs a flash counter+stock kernel

It's okay, we are all learning about information . The modem.bin file you flash in Odin replaces your old one (which is why the name of the file HAS to be modem.bin, otherwise nothing will get replaced).
Why do you WANT KNOX? KNOX is part of the bootloader for 4.3+. The guide you linked is how almost everyone has updated their modems on 4.2.2 bootloader.
If you are on 4.2.2 bootloader, follow these steps:
1) Download the 4.3 modem.
2) Place phone in download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power)
3) Open Odin and plug into computer.
4) Select "Phone" and then choose the modem.bin file.
5) Uncheck "Auto-reboot"
6) Press Start and wait 30 seconds after it says "Passed."
7) Restart phone.
I can almost guarantee you that this will work because this has been proven to work hundreds of thousands of times. I am on 4.2.2 MDL LTE (since I am already on 4.2.2) and I just flashed the 4.3 MK2 modem. I have no problems at all with data now.
EDIT: I am also using a 4.3 MK2 modem on 4.2.2 and have no issues.

I want knox because I want the LTE radio which is tied to knox. I don't care if I have knox or not. My phone is not under warranty anyone, and if that is the only thing that is scaring people away then I have no reason to worry about knox.
I may try out this scenario but right now my phone reboots all the time and I've heard people having issues with LTE on 4.3 ROM's so I am not looking forward to spending hours configuring my phone only to wipe it all again, but it may work out better than I am thinking so I will give it a shot.
For reference, if there is a flashable full 4.3 ROM/.tar (with knox and the MK2 LTE included) out there and you could link me, I would appreciate it. I can't seem to find any which is odd.
Cheers

There are 4.3 flashable ROMs out there but they will not give you what you want. You will HAVE to Odin flash a stock file to get what you're after.
Here are some links for the stock MK2 with KNOX included (choose whichever one is faster). :good:

Open up odin, select PDA, choose the tar file you just downloaded.
Then put your phone in download mode (vol down + home + power), then connect it to your computer.
Once odin detects your phone, press start. It will take 15 to 20 mins and it will restart by itself.
After it reboots and for some reason you get stuck on the tmobile screen for more than 10 mins, go into recovery and wipe/data factory reset and wipe cache. Then your phone will boot up fine. Enjoy ^_^

Both M919's are set to fast.t-mobile.com, although I haven't checked to see if the settings all match. I will definitely check that later.
As for threads here and elsewhere to solve the problem, I have tried pretty much everything I have seen. Most of what I have been reading on both CM and custom TW ROM threads is "me too" or "I don't have that problem".

Q Wifi broken on latest bootloader

Hi,
I have been reading the forums for over 24 hours and have gone from a phone which i have spent 4 months sending back to Samsung because it could not join a mobile network, them sending it back the phone stating it was blacklisted, long story short it is not and the phone is clean.
They are unbelievably useless at fixing their own product i gave up and came here.
I found DN3 custom rom, patched kernel and modem.
The problem is i can only get either mobile network working on MK4 Kernel and MJ5 modem or wifi working on MK9 kernel and MJ9 modem.
I have tried the wifi fix by dr ketan however this seems to only work on MJ5 bootloader i cannot downgrade to since i am MJ9 (came like this from Samsung)?
Please let me know if there is anything i have missed, i have read and looked for anything i can find, so hopefully this shows i am not lazy!
Thanks,
Matt

[Q] N7100 No Wifi after "Emergency Calls" FIX and WiFi Fix (STOCK 4.3)

Hello Everybody,
I would like to begin by saying how much I've learned in xda-devs in the last few days just by searching around the forum and Fixing different things here and there.
This is such a great community that I decided to register
OK so heres the deal:
Last week i bought a Note-2 (N7100) running Samsung Android 4.1.2 (Israel Version) + Rooted
I wanted to upgrade to 4.3 but 4.3 isn't yet released in Israel according to sammobile.com and other people I asked.
I found a Stock Deodexed Pre-Rooted ROM here on the forums (I think version was MK4), Flashed it, and lost cellular abilities (there is signal but emergency calls only) and WiFi.
Flashed WiFi FIX by Dr. Ketan, and by installing Devil's kernel (Patched_N7100_MK4_KERNEL.zip) and GT-N7100_ModemMJ9.zip I was able to gain 3G Functionality back.
Phone was working great for a few days, but then I decided to upgrade to Dito Note v3.2 because i wanted Note-3 Functionality.
After flashing it, I lost the ability to register to network again, started receiving "UIds on the system are inconsistent " and phone crashed every few minutes, screen stoped working every now and then.
I immediately looked for a different ROM to flash, (couldn't find the original ROM I flashed but i found DrKetan_Custom_ROM_V6_1).
So i wipe the phone, cache, sd-card and everything besides formatting the internal storage, Installed this ROM but still had the same issues with ULDS on the system, phone crashes and display shuts down while phone is still working).
Desperate, I downloaded Stock firmware (With KNOX) and flashed it to my device (I used Odin 3.09 and flashed everything, BL,CP,AP,CSC that was included within the original ROM). this was the Seri-Lanka firmware if I remember right.
This time phone boots without complaining about system files, but got "Emergency calls only" (IMEI and S/N still ok!).
In addition, I now have bootloader with KNOX.
I then thought, maybe the modem version is incompatible with the Cellular frequencies in my country (Israel Freqs: 850,2100), so i looked for countries with similar freq and downloaded official firmware for Thailand.
Flashed it with ODIN (same as before, BL,CP,AP,CSC basically everything) device boots fine, WiFi was working, but couldn't register on network ("emergency calls only") even if you can see your provider while manual scanning, registers successfuly apparently, but still no service.
Fraustrated, I rooted the device (Knox turned 0x1 but it doesn't really matter to me cause no warranty anyway), installed Philiz and flashed the 2 Fixes I mentioned at the begining (Devils kernel + Mj9 modem).
This resolved "Emergency calls only" issue, but now i cannot open WiFi at all!.
I tried to flash WiFi fix that i found in this forums but it didn't work. I've given everything I have in the last 2 days trying to fix this issue but I cant seem to solve this problem.
Now I'm just thankful that I can start/receive phone calls with my device.
I can't seem to understand, how did I not have signal with stock ROM?
could it be EFS was corrupted somehow so that only MJ9 Modem + Devil's Kernel read it?
How can i FIX WiFi?
Included screen-shots of "About Phone" and "*#1234#"
Thanks ahead,

OK Thanks very much for all of your help.
Does it matter what version of 4.3 I choose to flash via Kies?
In Israel only version 4.1.2 is available and I know that going back from 4.3 most likely will erase my IMEI / S/N.
If i choose a stock rom from SamMobile does it matter what country it comes from?
I don't really understand why are there different modems to different countries, aren't all versions alike?

I don't belive in this approach, I know for sure that there is a way.
after re-flashing with Kies and getting "Emergency Calls" again, i tried to flash only the modem, and i saw that i lost connection with cellular but Wi-Fi was still working. only after flashing Devil's kernel it seems that Wi-Fi stops working..
I just got home and i'm not expecting any calls until tomorrow, I will look around maybe an alternative kernel will solve our problems..

Maybe we just need the correct kernel and modem, the problem is that no one's development. Another solution would be to discover how to downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1. For now, our only option is to wait for more solutions and development

OK, so as I promised yesterday, I had the time to dig in to this subject yesterday and I managed to find a solution to get both, WiFi and Cellular working (together!)
Here are the steps i took:
1) Installed Stock ROM 4.3 with MK4 as the main and BL version (this will install Knox but i already had it) and modem version MJ9 (Odin 3.09)
2) Root the device with CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100
3) Install custom Recovery (I used philz_touch_6.07.9-n7100.tar.md5)
4) Very important! After device boots it automatically attempts to perform update with samsung! DO NOT LET IT as it will install updated modem version. it is important that we have MK4 Kernel and MJ9 Modem for this to work.
5) Flash via recovery the following files:
a) Patched_N7100_MK4_KERNEL - This installs a patched Kernel only this time because we didn't let phone update version after boot, it will be compatible with Phones version.
b) GT-N7100_ModemMJ9 - This patches the MJ9 Modem.
After performing all the above steps I finally managed to get Cellular connectivity and WiFi together. Hope it works for other people as well.
I still don't understand why Stock Kernel with Stock MJ9 modem won't work, what do those patches contain that allows me to get connectivity to cellular network?
This device is not black-list and IMEI is still original and S/N but for some reason won't work with stock.
Seems to me like some of the ROMs maybe modify EFS so that only patched Kernel and MJ9 Modem will work and it's not backwards compatible.
Can anyone confirm this? and if so, is there a way to convert the "modified" EFS version to stock compatible version? or is the EFS file encrypted with propriety Samsung encryption?
You can download the referred files here

Hi, as you can see modem version for you is ending with MJ4 so it's not the same as my version.
Look for a version that has modem version ending with MJ9 and then apply the patch (because patch is for MJ9 modem, and not any other modem from my understanding)
Hope you get your device working!!
More explanation

Advice for updating from rooted 4.3 (MI7) to 4.4 (NK3)

Travelling in the Philippines and my wife's rooted 4.3 N900T (otherwise stock and Knox 0x0) is having issues with keeping cellular lock (Globe) and WiFi lock. Both signals drop periodically whereas my own N900T running Effortless rev 7 (4.4.2 NF4) is rock solid. Given that the phones are identical and she didn't have his problem prior to travelling I am assuming this is related to the older radio FW on 4.3. I'm looking for a fix with minimum changes to the phone (don't want to risk screwing up the phone when it is sometimes functional, limited tools on hand and very slow internet speeds). My initial thought was to do an OTA update to 4.4.2, but since the phone is rooted it will not allow this. I then looked for guides how to go from 4.3 to 4.4.2, but most threads assume 4.4.2 is already installed. I'm looking for advice how to fix the radio / FW problem. Open to flashing just the radios (does that trigger KNOX?) or doing OTA updates (unroot and wait for OTA or download and sideload files?). Any suggestions are welcome.
Found this regarding WIFI issues on 4.3. Trying turning off power saving and scanning to see if this helps. Would still be interested in advice regarding updating to 4.4.2 via OTA and if I can flash newer modems without triggering KNOX while remaining on 4.3.

Thanks for the reply.
I have seen the effortless guide, but it assumes odin'ing a stock NK3. I can do this as a last resort, but I'm assuming the safest way to do this type of upgrade would be to start with stock MI7, then do the OTA to 4.4.2 so I get the bootloader, then do the NK3 or OTA up to NK3, then follow the rest of the guide? In this process I would need to backup my data e.g. using TI backup and restore later. Was hoping someone knew how to unroot manually, e.g. delete su files?, so I can OTA up to NK3 w/o doing the back up. Or would the latest modem or some newer version higher than the one from 4.3 work with 4.3 MI7?

Wifi problem on 4.4 modem with MDL bootloader.

I have a friend's M919 that just got modem upgraded to latest 4.4.4 however wifi toggle /the wifi connection does not work.
Is there way to fix this?
If I remember correctly when first Tmobile m919 4.3 upgdate came out there was patch that allowed 4.3 modem to work properlyon MDL bootloader. I ve been searching but I could not find it anymore. I found couple guideson modem so sound is working but the wifi is not.
My poor friend is without a working phone at the moment.
Any help is appreciated.

You need to upgrade bootloader to current 4.4.4 firmware.
Mismatched bootloader and modem will cause WiFi not to work.

Thanks for your reply.
As far as I know, updating bootloader is a no no for ATT and Verizon variant if you have one of the older MDL boot loaders.
I get mixed responses on Tmobile version. Should I be worroed about anything in particular? As upgrading bootloader on these S4s is like crossing a bridge that you can never come back.

If the model number is M-919 T-MOBILE phone then there is no issue as long as you follow M-919 model thread instructions in op.

Nobody has ever had wifi problem on M919? Anyone?
Download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
And check your info, make sure your bootloader matches the firmware number.
This will give you all the pertinent info on your phone.
