LG Support Tool Upgrade Recovery - not working? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
yesterday I tried to root my G Pad using the rooting script form Dalingrin. Everything worked flawless. Afterwards I tried to install CM using CWM. But CWM told me that I must install a recovery image manually, which I didn't know where to get. So I decided to put the tablet back to "stock". After downloading the image and installing it the LG support tool told me everything was done. But after a restart every single software I had (even the wallpaper and lock code etc.) was still there. Wasn't the recovery not supposed to clear everything or is this correct? Hope you can help me.

May be you not wiping data after return to stock.

Yeah Black LIst is right you have to boot into stock recovery and do a wipe after using the tool.

This forum is for the LG GPad V500, V510 and the V810. Not for an LG Phone, you probably need to start with finding the forum here at XDA for your specific device.

Please help me with my bricked G Pad

Yesterday, I had my happy little G Pad running CM11. I hadn't updated it in a while, so I downloaded and installed the newest Nightly. When I rebooted, everything was changed. The keyboard was different, the home button didn't work (soft key), the lockscreen didn't show, and lots of other changes. I wanted to go back to what I had before, so I installed the previous update that I was running. All of my problems were still there. I couldn't find anything to help me online, so I tried to revert to the stock ROM from the NANDROID backup that I have saved on my computer. When I finished flashing it, all I got was a blank screen on bootup. So, I then flashed CM11, which just stuck on the boot logo. I found a few posts online on how to "unbrick" the G Pad, and they all say to put it in download mode and then use the LG Support Tool to go stock. I got it in download mode after some time and tried to use the software. It connected to my tablet just fine, but when it finished downloading the stock and starts to install I get a pop up that says something along the lines of "Could not connect to the server. Please try again later", and there is just an "OK" box below it. When I close the window, I can do nothing but close the entire program. I want to now just get it completely out of download mode, but I cannot. No matter what key combinations I do, all I get is the download mode screen. I can't even get to recovery (CWM). What do I do? I tried contacting LG customer support. Completely unhelpful.
Try a different flash tool, like SmartFlash or LG Flash tool?

Can you assist me with this? I found a guide online but it is not for this tablet. I don't know where I can get all of the files that I need.
Well I haven't used the tools in a long time. I used them on my Optimus 3D ages ago. I can try. I just read that you have to be in S/W update mode instead of download mode, so I'm not sure if these will work but it's worth a try and if nothing else, you'll learn something.
Off the top of my head, you need the ROM split into a .bin file and a .fls file. The .fls is the baseband, so if you only have a WiFi tablet, I guess you only need the .bin file.
If you can't find a .bin for the V500, you can create one from the kdz file. There are tutorials to do this but the easiest is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692191
Try this Korean KitKat kdz
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698267
Now you need to run SmartFlash Tool. Instructions are here. You can leave the .fls field blank.

I just found a link where someone made an all in one tool. You could give that a shot.

Remember to ensure that V500 drivers are installed, as these links are for different phones.

Can't use LG Flash tool

I tried to flash latest 10L firmware, but I always get the messages Problem with communication between cell phone and PC. I did everything as instructed, selected Normal flash, but it won't work. I installed needed drivers, but when I reboot to Downloading mode, there is Exclamation sign in device manager. What could be the problem?
Did you change the port to com41?
Also are you using windows 8? If you are you need to disable signature verification.
I don't know how to change port to com41. I am using Windows 7.

It's in the guide that you said you followed. Open your device manager in windows and right click on the lg device that shows up. Next hut advanced and change the port to com41 and then click ok.
I did that, and it still shows the same message.

Bump.
Did you install the latest LG drivers for your phone? I don't know why this didn't occur to me earlier but that plays a big part in the PC seeing your phone.
Yes, I have driver. PC Suite works, everything works, but Flash tool doesn't.

Could this be connected with bump twrp. Maybe it is blocking this somehow.

You've got to boot into download mode and then use the LG FLash Tool 2014. There's one error stating there is an error with a connection, just ignore it and watch your phone screen! If it tells you stuff like the current version and the version it is about to install, just let it sit and wait till it reboots automatically.
The reason I am saying is because you say "Problem with communication between cell phone and PC" and it looks like the error that is supposed to show up.
Could you please re-do the process, maybe re-install the LG drivers and use LG FLash Tool again. If you encounter any error either make a screenshot or type the EXACT error message in here.
Good luck
I solved the problem.

For all who is experiencing the same thing problem is in 64bit OS but it is not a rule. People reported that they were succesfully flashed their devices on win7 x64. If you want to be sure use x86 windows and it should be working.

d855 bricked?

I'm in a bit of a pickle...
Phone is dead, I'm unable to wake it using any method, however PC sees the device being connected. I have tried to restore TWRP backup which was completed correctly but then phone stuck and failed to wake up again. I have tried to unbrick it using the LG flash tool and dll +tot files however this method fails each time -with factory model check error - and download fail notification. Right now im waiting for kdz file to download (im using the tool checking my imei to select correct one) but it takes ages with my internet.
Anyone has any ideas? Am i doomed?
Hi
Happened to me also. I got out of it by using LG flash tool and clicking on options and selecting restore recovery. It puts it back to stock and you then need to reroot etc.

Options? On mainstream there isn't any. Is it on the 2nd screen after adding the kdz?
Current progress
Phone:
No download mode
No boot on the phone
Device acts dead - only visible on my pc (serial port LGE)
PID and IMEI not available to read using LG flash tool 2014
Tried
Loading KDZ file - connection failed
using tot and dll with flash tool - Failed to connect to device
Read something about laf.img using adb... Anyone has any other ideas? Funny enough when I was searching forums I was not able to find more info about cases when device is not waking up at all. but now i see few very similar threads around? Possible flaw somewhere?

It might be the PC (work pc at the moment and some IT limitations on it) however drivers installed ok, software confirms that I have latest software on my device - when phone is connected to the pc. After running Recovery Upgreade, it gets problem with comunication between the pc and mobile. in troubleshooting asks to power on the mobile (which I cannot do) before retrying. Also I have installed LG usb driver from outside as options coming with this software seem to be for really old models?
A thing I tried with another G3 was to connect the phone to the PC without the battery and then insert the battery, disconnect from phone and then remove battery again then insert and hold volume up and connect the USB to the phone again and it went into download mode and allowed the use of LG support tool as before.
Its worth a try!!

I didn't had the same issue as you, but had a similiar one (phone didn't get discovered neither by LGUP nor LG Flash Tool). Yesterday I fixed it by following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
In particular the part where you change your device to COM41 in the device manager.
After you get it discovered by LG Flash Tool flash an official KDZ.
Reboot the phone and connect it to your Windows, allow the connection from the phone screen.
It should promt you to install drivers on the computer, do that (they are different from LG Drivers you download from the web mind you)
Now you can change your COM port back to 3 and everything should be fully discoverable by both LGUP and LG Flash Tool.
I think I replied to you on reddit (same photo) Have you tried plugging the phone in while in download mode ? Did you try installing drivers from the internet ? Coz thats how I fixed the same problem you have.

Exactly, here I am running around in circles over this BOOST Stylo 2, just got it with MM 6.0.1 out of the box 2 days ago. I caught the 454.4mb update it has been trying to do! Got that baby downloaded! 1.02gb unzipped and renamed to kdz. Got a script for Terminal that will replace Kingroot's temp root with SuperSU but I am not going to attempt any further until I know LGUP will recognize and flash my .zip the bas****s deem not worth enough to put up for download on LG's site!
I got LGUP to recognize it in download mode, reads out LGLS775 but still says it cannot open it...............
His info on how he got it to work would prolly have solved this dillema..............
oh well
zach
ok had a LG G3 that's done this- as long as you can get download mode it should recover, YOU need to use the LG mobile support tool from LG website ( LG UP sees phone as unknown model ) run LG mobile Support tool and in option choose UPGRADE RECOVERY . follow instructions and allow to start process, it took 57 minutes to repair my phone - it will seem frozen anywhere from 0% to about 22% JUST WAIT IT OUT!! lg up / twrp flashes in 5 to 10 mins -- the LG m.s.t writes block by block and takes 1 hour +
so hints and info took 3 goes to find and start upgrade recovery - error on a couple of attempts. phone seems frozen around 10% and 15% of firmware upload -- go make a coffee drink it, go pee then come back and worry! A watched pot never boils!....

I figured out how to get my PC to recognize my D851. Apparently all the LG software didn't like how many COM ports I have. As soon as I unplugged everything else from my PC, the software worked. In this case, it was LG Flash Tool 2014, but I couldn't get any of them to work before.

Hope someone can help me. I flashed a rom for a d855, d855g30 I think, and although I can access download mode all aps for flashing fail saying it's the wrong model number. Even the generic DLL file cant trick it. It still starts booting the rom but boot loops before entering. I no longer have twrp and when I try to do safe mode or factory reset I get a boot validation error or something similar. Just seem to be stuck. Im using a VS985.
One cause of LGUP "UNKNOWN"
While an old thread, it'll be found in searches. For anybody who gets "UNKNOWN" device with LGUP for the LG G3, I found that LGUP for the G3 is often distributed with the wrong DLL file. See the details here, post #11. After installing LGUP, make sure that the "model" subdirectory in the LGUP program directory is the same number as the processor in your phone, in my case c:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\8974 (was 8994 with the "LGUP for G3" I downloaded).
