Hey Everyone
I've been looking around the site (and the rest of the web for that matter) and I can't find much on this that's helpful (at least not anymore).
I used to flash custom shizz on my phone regularly until I flashed back to stock for a while, and now I've decided to go back. The problem is, my USB port broke in the mean-time and I can no longer plug it in I know I could buy a new USB port, but it's a lot of work for a phone that I'm only going to be using for a couple more months (will be upgrading to the S5)
Is anyone aware of a way to root on the phone itself? So far I've tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352669 and Framaroot to no avail - I can't find anything else.
Any help would be massively appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello, so im a relative noob in the forums per say, by my post count, bt ive been stalking the xda forums since my HTC Touch Pro 2..Usually, with enough searching i can fix my problems on my own, bt I can't afford to break this fone..
Here is the story. (sry if im giving TMI) (THE ACTUAL QUESTION IS AT THE END. RELATIVE INFORMATION IS AS FOLLOWS)
I was content with my stock EL29 rom,bt I wanted to try the new ICS update. So, I manually updated to FF18 using this link:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...bbe3997e3067.SPH-D710_update_EL29_to_FF18.zip
I used QBKing's video's steps to update. Big shout out to him, btw.. So after i wanted to root to eventually flash a custom rom. So i rooted using sfhub's one click for FF18 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
Now, i few days of reading later, i decided to install the recovery to start installing custom roms. However, my fone got a bit wet a few days ago from a thunderstorm video recording adventure and I couldnt install the recovery.
I plugged in my fone and it wasnt recognized by any of my three computers at home. I uninstalled and re installed the samsung drivers numerous times. Keep in mind that I had previously used sfhub's one click sucessfully, so it is unlikely to be a computer problem.
So a few days later my fone starts telling me that im charging it (or its overvoltage) when its nt even plugged in. Now, it wont even turn off. it restarts as soon as it turns off.
-------------
So basically, I have come to the conclusion that I have a hardware usb port phone problem. Now, since its rooted, just with a stock FF18 rom, will Sprint give me problems if its an obvious hardware problems?
Is there a way to unroot without plugging it into my computer? Im thinking mobile ODIN,bt i heard it cant flash modems? would that be a problem if im from a rooted FF18 going to EL29? Or shud I just go back to stock unrooted FF18?Or shud I just take it to Sprint and hope they dont check the phone software wise?
I wud appreciate multiple opinions or even confirmations of other ppls ideas. Bt thanks for reading all this.. Hope I didnt put u guys to sleep
Thanks for all the help in advance guys...u guys rock..

Now, I haven't had this problem, but on my old moment, what I did was flash it back to an old version of Stock (say EL29 [on this phone use MobileODIN]), then try to apply the OTA update, or even download the OTA update files and place them on your SD card and try that way. Then you phone would look stock when you take it in, just make sure have a battery as full as possible.
thanks for the suggestion. I ended up bringing it to Sprint and as soon as I left my car, the power button stopped working for some reason.
They ended up focusing on that and ordered me a replacement phone. I guess since it was still on the stock rom, they didnt realize it was rooted.
Hi everybody!
My 15-year old daughter have a LT15a since April this year and eventually she managed somehow to break the USB port about 2 months ago, I don't know how. It was bought in the US like in February by a friend of mine, and besides that I unlocked the bootloader, so warranty claim is not an option.
I was happily using JellySandwich v4.3 and I tried to update to V5. It didn't work but I remember reading that it was based on .587 and I was on .431, so I found a .587 LT15a firmware and began flashing in Flashtool. After it finished, I removed the USB cable and it was the last time the port worked. I knew it was damaged from before, because it only worked with only one of the several microUSB cables that I have (I also own a BB, an X10 and a Milestone) and had to put it in a special position on my PC, It didn't work anywhere else, so I removed the cable very carefully but I failed. I transferred the files I needed via WiFi, trying to use the USB port the least possible. I visited several Cell technicians here in Venezuela, but this phone is almost unknown in here, let alone finding parts for it. Googling, I found the USB port in eBay (several Chinese sites have it and one in UK) but it will take forever to reach here.
After this LOOOONG story, here comes the question: Is there anyway to root it and install CWM without using the USB port? I looked everywhere but didn't find a solution. I even tried the Flashtool ADB restore option, but didn't work
This phone is almost useless without A2SD or Link2SD
Thanks in advance for your answers
Hi all. I'm posting here because after countless (2) hours of searching online I haven't been able to find a proper solution for a problem. I'm hoping that you all can help me with this one.
I've been using the LG g3 for the past year and everything has been great. But since my screen got smashed I've had to replace it with a newer one. I got this last Thursday.
I've been sticking with stock because I'm quite fond of the stock marshmallow. But since I'm a tinkerer I can't help myself. So after I updated (yesterday) I was going to attempt to root and flash a shiny new rom. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get that far, as my phone can no longer be recognized by my computer.
I will put it in, and it will pop up with "USB Device not recognized". Under device managers it merely shows up as "unknown usb device". So I uninstalled my LG drivers (which are normally installed once you plug in the phone, but I digress. It did all of this before the 6.0 update) and it will attempt to install usb drivers but fail almost immediately and say it experienced an "unknown error", very helpfully reminding me to try and unplug/plug the device or factory reset.
Factory reset is very difficult for me right now as I have just finally gotten the phone tweaked to my liking. I really don't want to have to re-download everything. I have tried almost every workarounds I could find on the Internet but I keep running in circles. I've downloaded several different drivers for my phone and none of them work. I'm really at a loss.
I'm assuming that it must be the marshmallow update, as I haven't rooted or installed cfw as of yet. And I can plug someone else's phone in and it will install the drivers in a heartbeat. I can charge my phone but it won't give me options for MTP/PTP/Charge mode at all.
Anyways that's about all I can ask at the moment. I just hope someone here has experienced this and knows what to do.
Okay, I have now tried factory resetting my phone and it still won't work. It's the 6.0 update that's causing this. I'm at a loss, either I have to wait for google to hopefully patch this or I have to take back my new phone and exchange it for a new one.
You should be aware that the correct model number for a Canadian G3 from Koodo is D852, not D820 as you mentioned.
Before taking back your phone, try to see if your phone is recognized with a different USB cable (OEM one preferred), plugged in a different USB port of your computer, or, if possible on a friend's Windows 10 or Windows 8 computer, just in case different drivers might recognize your phone.
Your suspicion (that the OTA update to MM caused this) is not well supported by the reality: the OTA update was quite uneventful for thousands of other Canadian G3 phones; we should have heard more complaints if the OTA update were botched by Koodo or Telus.
Hey everyone. Several years ago, I loaded a custom ROM on my Nexus 7. I'd like to flash it back to original and use it again for reading or maybe as my home automation hub. It's been so long since I rooted a device or anything, that I don't remember much of anything about it. The problem is, I don't have a PC anymore. All I have is a Macbook Pro and a Chromebook.
Can someone give me step-by-step directions to get this thing up and going again, please? Thank you!
Hi everyone, I'm here today to avoid going crazy altogether, I know I should most likely give up this time, but I don't want to lose this match. I have been applying root permissions to my devices for 8/9 years now, in the last year I am using only custom roms, so I know the steps to take. This time I want to revive my old S9 exynos, the problem? The usb port is unusable because "there is moisture" plus it does not have root permissions.
I tried everything; Wireless ADB, horrible apps like Kingroot and so on and so forth. I therefore came to the conclusion that to have the root you need the twrp or the pc, to have the twrp you need the root or the pc. For me that I can not use the USB port means that consequently I have to say goodbye to the PC. In other words, I create a paradox, without root I can not have the twrp and without twrp I can not have the root.
someone to give me a good idea? I know I should give up, but really, I don't want to.!
p.s. having the usb port repaired is not an option hahahah
