[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 Boot Behavior // Looking for Dev. - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I have a general question regarding the boot behavior of the P5210.
When the device is in a powered down state, what does it do when it you plug in a USB cable connected to a charger?
Does it boot straight to Android or does it power up to a "charging" screen, top up the battery and power down?
I am researching this for a kiosk application in a commercial project, and I'd like to know more before I jump and buy 30 of these things.
If it's possible to alter this behavior via a software modification in the bootloader or elsewhere, I would like to offer a commission to any developer that is interested in delivering a solution.
Please, feel free to PM me with any questions or mail me at ofni.vonuahcak:cyclops:nafets. Sorry for the address jam.
Best regards,
Stefan K.

Idk what's your question but the device boots to "Charging Screen" when it's powered off and plugged into a Charging source

[Q] OK so what the hell? (charging issues) Question.

My new Nexus and it's charger have had a falling out:
My charger won't charge my phone, but charges other people's phones. And other people's chargers charge my phone!!?
What's really weird is that my charger charges my phone when it's switched off but I've done a data wipe and it still won't work once the phone is powered on, so my question is:
What the motherf*ck?
Anyone seen this before?
I rooted, clockworked and installed paul obrien's customised ROM with the volume fix and extra menu and search buttons. And my phone was fine. I've got other chargers knocking around, although they're not the same. Should I be worried?

What charger are you using to try and charge your Nexus? Mains or usb? I only got a usb cable in my box and they are pretty much just standard micro usb cables. You should also be able to use any 5V mains to usb converter which you plug the usb cable into to charge your device so as long as you can find some combination that works then I wouldnt worry too much about it.
However if you are concerned then send the phone back for a replacement while you are able to.
Mark.
You'd think the first place you'd go to would be Google or Samsung. Why wouldn't you give them a call first?
I have found that some of the lower power (1 amp or less) chargers are having trouble with the larger phones with bigger batteries. Interestingly, my old SGS2 desktop cradle/charger wouldn't charge the SGN (which fits into the charger - sticks out a bit but the phone sits on the mini-USB fine) with the charger that came with the desktop cradle. I replaced it with the higher powered (10W?) usb charger that came with my ipad2 and, lo & behold, the phone will charge.
Not sure if this helps or not but I've discovered that not all chargers are created equal.
Yea, some of the higher powered phones/tablets won't charge over the lower power chargers... hence why tablets won't charge over a PC-USB connection.
Sounds like the charger is faulty... unless nothing charges the phone.

Thanks for that stellar advice, and if the issue hadn't followed rooting and rom-ing my phone and hence invalidating my warranty, and not occurring prior to the fact, then maybe I would've. And just for the record, have you ever called Google regarding an issue with your phone?

Sorry, if I wasn't clear (and for spamming the forum?) but I got a UK SGN via phones4u on o2 and I received in the box a USB cable and an AC wall charger with a USB socket on it.
I don't think you guys are getting how weird this is:
If I connect my Nexus to a PC with the USB cable that came with it, it doesn't charge.
If I connect the USB to the supplied AC wall adapter and plug it into my phone it doesn't charge.
If I connect anyone else's smartphone phone to my Nexus charger, be it just USB cable or with AC it charges.
And if I connect anyone else's USB cable and/or charger to my phone it charges!?
My phone will charge from the supplied kit only when it is powered off, hence a software issue and not a hardware issue which is why I didn't call Samsung.
I've done a factory reset, I've restored to backups made prior to the issue occurring. I haven't admittedly done the full unroot and stock restore as yet and would rather not. I just wondered if anyone else here had experienced weirdness with the supplied charger?
Many thanks guys, sorry for the sarcasm earlier, it's just that I'm not lazy, I read and read up on things before posting questions. And I've posted very few questions on XDA since I registered here after buying my Milestone. I'm only posting in the general discussion thread so didn't think it'd be a big deal if I bumped this. The reason I did is I only have a limited time before I no longer qualify for a hardware replacement from the supplier if I claim it faulty. (which I kinda don't think it is)

Bumping this thread since I'm having almost the exact same problem and found this thread after searching. How did you solve it?
My situation is like this:
If I connect my Nexus to a PC with the USB cable that came with it, it does charge.
My phone will not charge from the supplied kit when it is powered off.
Feels very wierd, the other two chargers I have tried were a 700mA ZTE Blade charger and a 2A Asus Transformer charger, both are charging my Nexus perfectly fine.

[Q] European power

Hey everyone.
I'm flying out to england and scotland for a vacation and i was curious about something. My laptop has it's own powerblock so regulating the power for it is fine. However i have both my tablet and my S3 phone i'm taking with me and i was curious. Can I plug the converter onto the plug for the cellphones and charge them there right off the standard plug, no need to worry about voltage or anything?
I'll be staying in nicer places so i should be ok from power surges, but i'd rather be safe and buy a power bar for my portable devices than fry off my tablet or phone cause i brought the wrong converter.
Any thoughts, anyone who's been there with a NA phone? I'm sure i'll be fine but i wanted to double check.
thx
Should be no problem since the transformer is a switched mode power supply so it can handle the voltage.
You checked "yes this is a question"
Guess where it should be

Yes, but thats for the laptop, my concern is for the cellphone and tablet. They plug directly into the wall jack there is power modulation of any kind.
thx
Then charge through the laptop. It's slower, but you won't have any worries.

[Q] USB Host with Charging

Alright. I exhausted both Google and the forum search trying to find an answer for this but so far have come up with nothing.
When you plug in a flash drive via OTG, a popup appears in the notification bar explaining that the phone is in USB host mode and unable to charge. I have confirmed this by trying to use an OTG Y adapter and, even with nothing plugged into the female USB, the same notification is present and no charging light appears.
My question is whether or not it is possible to fix this with some sort of kernel patch or if this is some kind of hardware limitation. My HTC Evo 3D was able to charge while hosting a flash drive with an OTG Y when using stick mount while my Nexus 7 required a kernel patch to be able to do so.
Is this doable on the HTC One? I plan on using a USB stick for playing games rather than filling the internal storage but being unable to charge simultaneously really limits the play time if this is the case.
Thanks for the help and hopefully my searches didn't miss some obvious answer to this.
Ya know...I saw something via kernal or rom when I had the HTC One for AT&T. I never activated it during setup though. It dealt purely with the USB/computer charge and was some type of override.
I know this is vague and it is probably not available yet for the Verizon version, but I wanted to say that something was out there so I believe it is possible.
Update: It was the Bulletproof kernal. The feature was force USB fastcharge. Not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for, but I believe it tricks your phone into pulling as much power as it does when hooked to AC. People say their pc now charges their phone as fast as wall charger.

[Q] [Help] Tab S 10.5 Wifi no charge & no power on

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Wifi with the following things:
- stock rom
- root
- twrp recovery
- skyhigh tw kernel
Before going to bed, my tab was at 7% charge and I put it on charge.
The next morning, I got my tab and was unable to power on...
I unplug then plug again the charger without any reaction from the tab... no sound, no vibration, no green battery saying "Hey I'm charging..."
I sent my tab at my local official repair center (I'm in France) and they refuse to repair it because of "It's rooted man" !
How can they say it is rooted without powering on ?
How root the tab disable charging it ?
How can I gain right and force then to repair my defect tab ?
In Europe, any soft modification disable soft warranty but say that hardware waranty is still available !
And if defect happen in first 6 month then the defect must be there since origin.
I'm not sure if my english is good enouth to be clear... But I really need help
PS: I have a thread about this on a french forum...
Maybe the cable is bad or maybe the charger is bad. Those are the first things I would look at. The Tab S will charge on a computer's USB port. So use the USB cable it came with and connect it to the computer while the computer is on of course. If the battery is totally discharged it may take some time for it to reach a level of charge to display the charging indicator, so leave it hooked up for about an hour then check it. If it charges on a USB port then the cable is OK. If it doesn't, try a different cable on the USB port.

Maybe I forgot to say that:
- the charger is ok (tested on my S4)
- plug on usb computer don't even woke up the tab
- I left my tab charging for a night with my working charger
- I tried my S4 charger with same result
Thanks for your replay but, I already tried all these steps...
Now this is between me and Samsung Customer Services...
(and this is bad because I really like Samsung, S4 and my new TabS... kind of rocking tablet)
Have a look at this thread.

I just read it... I tried to let it charge but I cannot charge anymore... You can...
You can resetting battery stats and see if it change something... I could not because I even can power it on :'(
I hope you will solve your problem just by clearing battery stats !!!
Connect your tab at your pc and leave it there for more than 30 minutes...then for me battery starts charging...

Which ROM or kernal will allow charging while in host mode(with otg Y cable)?

That's basically it. Hard to find an answer in Google on this one. I have this y cable that has the female micro usb for power connected to the female usb connector as if it's for powering the usb device, not the phone, tho I've read reviews on the cable by people claiming it charges the phone, but some phones need some mystery kernal I never quite found. I'm lost. Anyone know?
Wrong forum, you should ask this in Q&A.
Is there no one in on God's earth connected to his internet that knows the answer to this question, or even just wants to know the answer? There's got to be others out there who want to use this phone with usb peripherals long enough to drain this insufficiently tiny battery.

On God's earth connected to his internet?
Really?
Maybe you should pray for an answer.
And insufficient tiny battery?
The M8 is one of the best when it comes to battery life.
So what's your advice on otg? Don't you connect stuff to your phone and wonder how nice it would be if you could do it to your heart's desire rather than til the battery gets low? Battery life may be good for you but I'm a "power user" son.
