[Q] Is it Possible? LED Notification Fade In and Fade Out? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello,
I've done some searching and I can't seem to find a solid answer.
I am wanting the LED notification light to fade in and fade out on certain activities, like charging, etc. I've seen some posts where STweaks will work, however for my Tmo SGH-T999 running Android 4.3, this doesn't work.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Johnathan

Dkp kernel does fading on notifications
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry, I'm not as familiar with the Android platform. I assume that I'd have to flash to a different ROM to do this? I know that there seems to be some sort of capabilities with the stock ROM since when I reboot, the LED does fade in and out with a bluish tint.
Using the XDA Developers app... OH YEAH!!!

You can keep the same ROM, just flash dkp kernel and you're good to go!

Ok. So, do I use the Odin program just like when using it to root the phone?
Using the XDA Developers app... OH YEAH!!!

No, you need a custom recovery like twrp or cwm

I do believe Mobile Odin Pro does flash anything you want. Roms, Kernels, mods & Modems are included.

I know there's a few things you can flash but I don't know if it does flashable zips because I've never tried it, I guess it couldn't hurt to try

Mobile Odin does flash zip files. It can basically do everything a custom recovery can do, except nandroid backups. (I wish it could, then I'd have no real need for cwm/twrp!)

I think it executes Open Recovery Script. So it will not be effective with Stock Recovery.

yp yup. its doing the same thing as musclehead. says its flashing but afterwards just goes back to the homescreen.
its doing the same thing to me. im not sure if it matters but i did notice when i had superSU installed it wouldnt work but it was doing something different. after i uninstalled superSU and updated the binarny for the regular superuser.apk app it seemed to do an extra step that i dint notice it wasnt doing on prior tries. so if any of u are using superSU then uninstall it and see what i mean. maybe that can help us fig it out. cause i did notice at the bottom of superSU it says something about "injecting superSU"...sorry if my wording on that was confusing.
I noticed when I am using it to replace a stock kernel it doesn't reboot, but it does install kernel I wanted. I just manually reboot.

Worked fine for me to flash ACS FE16 kernel and the ones before. Try reinstalling?

This may not be not be helpful,
The same was happening to me but it was with modems, and it was several builds ago. I was stuck with FD19 (not a complaint, seeing as how that's the best modem for me so far)
It definitely is not an overall Mobile Odin thing, for me... when I couldn't install a new modem it wouldn't do it from the unlocked stock recovery either. It would SAY that it was. So I was thinking that it was a kernel issue.. Doesn't Mobile Odin make himself a copy of your current kernel to use a "flash kernel?'
Also, are you using "open file" with a .tar or are you placing the zImage directly in the kernel slot? I have noticed varying results when I do it differently.
As a temporary solution, download "Hc-kTool" from the market.
This app is also a must have. You can dump your current kernel, flash zImages, install update.tar packets with a zImage, modem.bin, and param.lfs, backup and restore EFS...
Just until MoOd is up and running for you this should hold you over.

I tried out FE10 (Sfhub) the other day, and tried to mobile Odin back to EL29 and it wouldn't work. I'm guessing its the same scenario as you're having on FE16. Everything works as normal, and then right after it says "flashing kernel", it just does nothing instead of rebooting and flashing like it should.

I've noticed on some of the TW based roms when I would flash a kernel with mobile odin it just doesnt reboot the phone after flashing. I would then reboot into recovery and the kernel I had flashed would be there.
Try going into developers settings uncheck usb debugging it was doing the same thing for me and reboot.

Sometimes I'd flash a kernel threw mobile Odin. And it wouldn't do the reboot at first I thought it didn't work. And would do it over again but one day I I checked to see if the kernel was flashed regardless and it was good to go. Plus it still happens here and there and every time kernel still flashes great. :what:

This is a strange issue. I am on FE16 and I used Mobile Odin 3 times today and it worked perfectly. It flashed and the phone rebooted and I was on my way. I am still using Venum Ice FE16 for what its worth

Weird, I've always had HC-kTool as the name, oh well, it's a great app, by any name.
Also; I had the moble odin doing nothing issue, after you tell him what to do and he does nothing just immediately boot into recovery and he'll go about his business.

It's a known fact that Mobile Odin does not flash cdma modems. They need to either be flashed via recovery or through the use of desktop Odin.

[Q] CWM Recovery on i317M

Hi,
I'm having issues installing CWM Recovery on my Rooted GN2. It's the Canadian variant, SGH-I317M.
It does go through the process of flashing the recovery, but never gets to saying PASS in ODIN. When I try to get into the Recovery, it still has the stock Samsung Recovery. It does, however trip the flash counter.
I'm followiing the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988785
This is what I get after flashing in ODIN.
Maybe a bad download? Have you checked to see if it installed? I dont usually recommend this but koush's Rom Manager supports our device now, you can use the app to flash it if your already rooted:thumbup:

I was able to install CWM by following this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36201055&postcount=54
But I'm starting to think that it may have been my fault the whole time...
While doing the 3 button combo to try to boot into Recovery, I was using Vol-DOWN, instead of Vol-UP. So I was going into download mode. I'm going to try flashing the CWM through ODIN again and see if I was just an idiot the whole time.
***EDIT***

I thought of cleanROM but it is pretty stock. I feel if im going to flash any rom i might as well go with something modded and tweaked rather then stock, while keeping most of the note 2 and s-pen features. If i start finding them being a little buggy or draining my battery or anything, ill settle with cleanROM and just flash some custom mods.
i flashed my CWM through MobileODIN. worked like a charm. then i ran into issues with backing up to extSD, which ended up working after i formatted it but i took way longer then onto internal SD.
i know its off topic for this thread..Any suggestions or thoughts on the JEDI X9 and SKYNOTE roms will be great guys. Im all backed up and ready to flash pretty quick here.
I guess you have custom ROM. You must root and rename recovery restore files before you boot to android or stock recovery will be restored.

Google edition rom on t mobile s4 question

I seen a post where the 4.2.2 Google edition rom was available to flash onto my tmobile S4, I was wondering if I can just flash it after wiping, or if I need the ktoonz kernel? I'm not even sure what the ktoonz kernel is, I've flashed ROMS before, just not on my s4. I'm rooted with twrp. And my build is the UVUAMDL one where I needed to get past boot loader lock thing. Sorry, I'm using my phone and I don't have the right links with me. Any help would be nice
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I Highly suggest you don't flash anything until you read up on the forums and figure everything out. Read up on kernels, roms, gapps, bootloader, recovery etc. Then when you get that stuff down read about the roms you want to flash. If you flash am incorrect file you can hard brick your phone.

I'm fairly familiar with flashing. I know my way around twrp and cwm. I just never knew what a kernel was.. Never needed to use one on my vibrant... So I know how to flash, that's not my question... I want to know if, with a stock rooted tmobile galaxy s4 (UVUAMDL), can I just flash the Google edition rom from twrp, then I'm good to go? And will I lose my root? It looks pretty straight forward, I just want to make sure my phone is Ok for the rom, and if I need the ktoonz file, cuz some people were mentioning it...

I already posted the link.
I was looking at that, so I wipe everything in twrp, and flash it like normal, but I'll lose root? Download the chainfire zip and install it in twrp as well to get root again?
Quick question, if I ever wanted to send my phone into get serviced, I can completely wipe my phone back to stock by flashing that back on the phone using Odin, correct? That would do the root as well, so when I sent it in, they would be none the wiser?

Jellybean doesn't have flash... It uses Google chrome as default browser unlike custom Roms that has a browser that has a browser built in.

Will there be completely stable versions of the Google edition s4 released sometime in the future? I'm just seeing way to many different versions of the same thing where some things aren't working properly, and it doesn't seem to be as simple as just flashing the rom. All sorts of other stuff needs to be done like changing build.prop and whatnot. I just want to be able to flash the rom and be done with it... Is that possible right now? Or no. I guess I'm not as familiar with all the terminology as I thought. I still don't know what a kernel really is, I flashed one once and it just made my cwm recovery menu different... And I know I needed a specific kernel to flash specific ROMS.. Is that the case here with these Google edition roms?

It allows you to flash stuff without recovery.
Here's a link to the XDA post about this program. Not useful for ROM flashing. And if you flash something that softbricks your phone, the only way to recover is to run one of the ODIN files that DG posted, in which wipes your phone clean.

I flashed a volume hack that made my note REAL loud, just the way I like it. Never soft bricked at all.
Oddly enough, I emailed the dev of the app before I used it to see if it would work and he told me that it WON'T work without a custom recovery(Even though in the app description it says it will).........but it does!!!!!!
I should mention that when I unzipped the venom boot animations one of the folders was named wrong. Not sure is it will work.

Yes, I have been using the flash Gordon apk for awhile and it has never caused me an issue. Here is my disclaimer.
BACK UP ANY ORIGINAL FILES YOU PLAN TO REPLACE. DO NOT FLASH ROMS, KERNELS, ETC.
SMALL MODS AND APKS ARE FINE BUT AS I SAID CHECK THE .ZIP YOU ARE FLASHING AND IF IT REPLACES ANY EXISTING FILES, BACK THEM UP FIRST.
WE CANNOT NANDROID YET SO THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN SOFT BRICK YOUR DEVICE.

Decided not to root this phone because of Samsung pay and I haven't had any luck with custom kernels on last 2 phones, always worse battery drain then stock. I don't understand why a custom kernel was needed for root this time I've used stock kernel on note 2,3,and 4. Maybe I'm just that dense and have never understood what goes into gaining root at any level but it's all good I'm happy with stock for once on a Samsung phone.

Cause none of those phones are running 5.1.1
Nature of the beast and the kernel is from a W8 model as the TMO kernel hasn't been released yet. Kernel is well done no other mods that I see besides root and file system

Adding these and they are untested doh... System deodexed system_deodexed_G928TUVU1
Is there some way were i can make these zips into md5 or .tar so i can flash them through odin? I've never used odin before and this is my first time actually using it, but is there someway were i can flash a zip through odin? I would like to try the deodexed, but is this made intentional as a rom? and if so do i just do the procedures of flashing a rom?
Sorry for all these questions i just never used odin before lol. Thanks for all the help!!

The firmware zip files are actually TAR files after you extract it from the zip file.
Once you extract the TAR file with winrar/winzip you need to flash it using Odin.
You cannot flash or install the firmware files if you don't extract the TAR files
and use them with Odin.
There is no way to flash zip files using Odin and you cannot use Odin to flash roms.
Roms are zip files which have to be flashed using twrp or philz recovery.
My suggestion for you is to do a lot of reading and research
here in xda before attempting to flashing anything.
Good luck,
Have a great weekend.
Odin will flash the .md5 files just takes a while as it verify's the file. Once verified you can press start.

Thanks for the toggle mod, it worked great!
I just hope that one of these days you can modify it so the toggles don't have a continuous scroll but
instead work more or less like the stock toggles notification screen where we normally edit them.
So far so good, not one erroneous reboot or any other issues after rooting.
The wifi calling is the one and only thing I have found which is not working.
I always disliked the secondary symbols on the keyboard, to me they are not only
an eye sore but they look like chicken scratches next to the letters making it more
difficult to read the letters so I edited the feature.xml & removed all the secondary
symbols and what a difference it made. It looks clean and easy to read now.
I did the same thing with my Note 3 and Note 4 as well.
Also,
There is one thing which I dislike after rooting, and that's philz recovery I
would so much prefer to use twrp instead.
What's the worst thing that can happen if I were to odin flash the twrp recovery
which the N920T Note 5 people are using?
I would love to give it a try if I knew for sure that if worst came to worst I could
simply odin flash philz recovery again.

ok look for these 2 lines in the updater script
Code:
run_program("/tmp/sqlite3", "/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db", "insert into system values(null, 'notification_panel_active_number_of_apps','49');");
run_program("/tmp/sqlite3", "/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db", "insert into system values(null, 'notification_panel_active_number_of_apps_for_reset','49');");
change the 49 to the number of toggles you want showing then in the lines above move around the toggles you want to the start of the line. Say you want 10 move the toggles you want to the first 10 in the order you want to show them. I haven't really tried this but in theory it should work as I like to be able to toggle any one from the scroll.
Yep the kernel has been solid! ipsec fc is wifi calling. I just sent a link to the source on my git for the G928T kernel to the developer and hopes he will make a true TMO kernel.
Yea the keyboard is much cleaner and love all the feature.xml mods
TWRP may work as long as you don't use f2fs. Don't mind Philz have used it before on my S5 when TWRP was causing problems.
Deodexed extraction problem
So I read in this forum that the tar file comes out when you extract the zip, so I did that, but all I get is a file folder. Is there some obvious way to get the tar file to flash with odin that i'm missing? I've read everywhere and I can't just switch the zip to tar so I really don't know what to do.... Can anyone explain to me on how to flash this? or at least get the tar file or maybe md5?
Thanks so much for the help!

What exactly did you want to flash? (we need more specifics)
What exactly do you see when you open the zip file?
You are right, you cannot rename the zip file to tar.
I am assuming that we are talking about odin flash firmware.
Good luck!

So you just odin'd the twrp and no worries? Seems like that will make rooting a lot easier.

I keep hearing with philz there is a lot of "don't let the phone reboot" "use this odin" "untick this" "press this button combination". Made me not want to root until some bad ass rom dropped. But if I can just odin twrp like every other Samsung phone I've owned, I may just go ahead root in the morning

Yeah its working perfectly for me. Im just not a fan of Philz So its just sent ahead and flashed twrp and its worked! Haha
