I used mx player pro h/w+ mode but not change. full hd videos seem like 3gp video and have not sharpness.
whether problem is from android 4.1.2? upper android version not yet released.
how can I fix it?
thanks

Have you tried yet switching to "sorftware render" mode for the exact same video, and see what happens? From what I understand so far, the HW+ method is a newer programming to get stuff that only worked in a software decode (via codec) to more things to hardware decode. That is why i would first try to go back to what might be concidered the old method.
Also there are more than one versions of this program, for different processors. Without knowing much about what i was doing, and with poor identification of which one to use, I ended up with versions that didnt work at all. (and no i still dont know, but i got a paid version of some sort working great).
Does the regular video player that comes stock on the machine even play it at all?

how many of you use Divx Mobile to view avi/Divx files?

8GB micro SD cards are very cheap in Hong Kong - so I don't bother coverting files to mp4 or whatever that's compatible with HD. Instead, I just copy the whole seasons of TV series into HD and use it as PMP (my Archos 605 just died)
Getting Divx Mobile was easy enough (just have to register & download). But I noticed that it takes a while (lag) to skip. Also, when in full screen, it was grainy (pixexls) - not sure this is due to poor quality of original file (downloaded bt)...
Any other suggestions? I don't mind paying - but want the best video quality possible.
p.s. don't worry about battery life either: US$20 for a spare battery and I'm never far from a outlet (HK is just so tiny)
try coreplayer..
Try Coreplayer. its the best video player ive found so far. much faster then divxplayer
coreplayer is best. And htc's graphics are excellent

Like all the above posts....Coreplayer, the only app you need to view those common video formats.
I have found coreplayer to be very laggy myself....Media Player plays my HD files with no issues at all......I never could understand all the fuss
Coreplayer does not support grafic accelerator of HD. Native video player is better with suitable video properties.

I agree...!!!
actually I am a bit confused (very confused I think...)
I downloaded that Encoder - but it seemed like a tool for converting the formats (not a software installed on HTC to play movies) Correct me if I am wrong. So how does that help in anyway?? I am using core now (found a cab version with flash support - so it seemed convenient so far)
I'd like to try Encoder - I have seen many knowledgeable ppl talking about it so I must be missing something here... Why does converting help?? What does "native player is better" mean?? And how does Encoder make use of HTC hardware accelerators if it isnt even installed on HTC????
pls help...

Latest HTC devices have good video capabilities but 3rd party video players do not support this hardware (yet).
Album or Windows Media Player are meaned by native video player. But they have also some limitations naturally. You should have compatible frame rate and bitrate to get maximum performance.
So, the best way to see good video on Touch HD is to convert any video file with proper settings and watch it by album or Windows Media Player.
now i get it... tried it last night on SD setting. My 350MB file converted into 200MB file and played beautifully on Album.
thx guys for helping me see the light

Galaxy Nexus 1080p FULL HD and 720p MKV Video Playback Test

What do you think?
/\
So in summary:
1080p MKV:
laggy with no sound in stock player
laggy with synced sound in QQ player
MKV Scene released (torrents)
Has issues preventing playback
720p MKV:
Runs fine (stock player et al)
1080p MP4:
Runs fine (stock player et al)
I'd suggest trying MX Player instead. Probably no need for a video though.
ill just leave this here http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
Still I'm disappointed with the performance, coming for a Galaxy S2 and all.
I had no problems at all playing a 400MB large 6 minutes long 1080p MP4 video. If there are problems with other formats, that has got to do with the application playing them or the codecs used. GN can play high definition video very well.

The problem is some people encode their stuff as mkv or download hd rips (cheeky) off the internet.
The Galaxy Nexus feels more like an iPhone now I suppose as you cannot chuck any file at it and expect it to play, perhaps I'm used to the ease of things with the GS2.

But of course. You cannot chuck ANY file at it. Nothing works like that. You cannot chuck ANY file at Windows either.
Just because it has problems with high definition mkv files doesn't mean it has problems with mkv files in general. Just play lower resolution files and if it doesn't play, try out a different player that might.
Let's remember that high definition video playing is still promoted as feature on high end tablets. Tablets are a bit more powerful to begin with, phones have not caught up with your high end TV or laptop yet.
I don't feel this is an issue with the phone its application thing..
Most mkv's have an h.264 video stream which the phone can hardware decode its just the software doesn't know the container so I presume its software decoding and in which case im impressed it does as well as it does..
Vplayer might be a good app to try..
True, but with another phone (which I will not name as I may be labelled a fanboi) I chuck numerous files... and they played.
Don't get me wrong, not everyone cares if this phone is 'pure google' or if somethings not 'optimised' for it, we just want it to work.
the video doesn't help at all really
no bitrates were mentioned on the "laggy" video
no video or audio codecs were mentioned anywhere in the video
MKV can contain any number of different video and audio codecs
MP4 can contain (for example) h.263 and h.264 codecs
This is really annoying coming from a GS2. GS2 played any video file I threw at it. On the Nexus I have to use an app from the market and even then its not as fluid. I guess this is due to the older GPU. In general I am dissapointed with this phone, the S2 is much snappier.

Sorry total rubbish, you are using a stock Android ICS phone, it does not come with touchwiz and other Samsung software, one of it being a video player. Please don't blame this on the phone hardware, it is nothing to do with it. If you expected everything to work out of the box I'm afraid maybe you should have got another phone! Stick on MX Player as an earlier poster suggested, also DICE player has now been updated, took all of 1 minute to get this information!

Google can only put on file formats and codecs that they have licenses for and native Android 4.0 comes with open source software and proprietary Google owned software.
Yes, it is a 'pure Google' issue even if you don't care about it. And more open than others on the market has its advantages and disadvantages. Sorry that you are disappointed, but reality is that Android Market has a number of media players that can play a lot of file formats and codecs that Android 4.0 does not natively support. No one forces you to use native players.
Using diceplayer the Galaxy Nexus can play any content I throw at it. It can play samples from Bluray rips at full bitrate so it's as good as you could possibly need it to be (unless you have higher than bluray quality material).

You're right, I completely forgot about touchwiz, my bad. Tried dice player and had issues with my avi rips lagging, this was couple of days ago. I'll try the new dice player today.
I have been experiencing lag in the browser (pinch to zoom on heavy sites) which I didnt have in the GS2 (loved the bounce and elastic scrolling in that browser). I also sometimes get lag when loading the appdrawer (animation is laggy).
Don't know if I'm being paranoid but I think my device may be a bit messed up. When I took it out of the box, I was never greeted with the setup, just the home screen. Had to manually go to settings and add an account. Perhaps this was a returned model that I got given ?

That's because samsung offers enhanced codec support on their galaxy S phones.. those phones running an AOSP build like CM 7 cannot play those formats out of the box. (last time I checked, they hadn't managed to port over samsung's codec support)

Where did you get your's from? Was the box sealed? Mine was from O2, no issues at all, minimal lag if any, I also had a GS2 and I find the GN a much nicer device to use. Maybe do a full factory wipe and start again. For the video MXPlayer has just been updated for ICS and incorporates hardware decoding, best of all it's free, maybe install this one first. Also check the quality of the video's you are putting on.

Contract on O2 but bought from phones4u. They didnt have any in their local shop so they sent this guy to get it from a shop nearby. When the guy gave it to me the box was not sealed (didnt have to cut / open anything to be able to get device out). I thought they do this to show you the phone before hand.
The phone itself had a plastic cover on it's front and back. Thinking back now I'didnt have to put the battery in either, just the SIM.
This was bought 2 days ago. I have done a reset, still do get the same lag, the camera is absolute ****e as well.
I was on text chat to O2 today, told them about the volume bug and all that, and they gave me a ref number. They also said that I could take to any phones4u shop and get it swapped, I will have to do that just to keep my self from going insane with paranoia.
I just want it to work. Call me a snob but I don't really care about sense or touchwiz, as long as it works, that's fine by me.

[Q] How to play 720p mkv smoothly?

Hello, my friends. I'm currently using ICS Arconium ROM (.64 baseband) in My Arc S and I'd like to know if is there possible to run mkv hd (720p) videos (movies, series etc) smoothly. When I try to do so, most of the times it goes laggy. Is there any app or tweak to fix this? Thanks.
Try MX Video Player, i can play my video smoothly with it
I tried this player, but it doesn't work very well here. It keeps laggy. I heard that DICEPLAYER is the best mkv player for android, and I just bought it (about 6 dollars), but when I start it, it crashes... =\ Thank you anyway
I have tried 1080p streams on the phone, and it was smooth, but I had the stock ROM when I tested that.
I believe our phone doesn't support .mkv out-of-the-box(correct me, if wrong), but you can get it work with RockPlayer(also plays .avis!)
I am using vplayer which can play most of the file formats.
I tested all of these, guys... Not successfully =\ Some of them screw up the subtitles (my native language is portuguese, they doesn't accept characters as ^ ´ ´ ~ etc) and in ALL of them mkv doesn't work well. I think that Arc S has a strong enough processor to run this format without any lag, but it's not working...
You can try MoboPlayer. But make sure, that you Enable "Soft decoding" in menu. If still doesn't work, you should try to download "MoboPlayer codecs" but you must download right version for arc S prosessor. I think it is ARMV7VFP3 but I am not sure of that.
Just tried Moboplayer... But no changes.
I'm sure that my Arc S is powerful enough to run this kind of video, but it's not working fine. The video/audio are pretty out of sync... The audio runs normal, but the video gets slow and/or laggy. I tried overclocking my processor to almost 2Ghz, but for nothing.
I contacted the developer of DicePlayer and he responded... He provided me with a working version of the app (no crash when starting), but the lag/sync problem continued.
See what he said: "I may need to check with the device, but currently I don't have the device. In my opinion, ICS needs more heap memory than Gingerbread, so the main problem is from lack of memory. Anyway I'll check it and try to resolve the playback issue."
Obviously the Arc S processor is nor guilty for the lag, but possibly the low level. Maybe a memory optimizer will answer my problem?
New response:
Hi,
The single core Qualcomm chipset has some weak point to decode the H.264 MP/HP video frames, so it may depend on the video files. I don't know that is the reason or not. I'll check the issue when I get the device, but I don't know when it is.
We can watch mkv videos @720p with hardware acceleration but most of the films and shows are encoded with profile level 4.1 and our phone can play only videos with profile 3.1/4.0. This levels can be changed within 1 second using H264LevelEditor. I always change it to 3.1 and almost every movie is running perfectly. With 4.0 I can't get it to play. But even with this change I couldn't play one video. Don't know why but the only one difference I noticed was "Format settings, ReFrames". Sometimes it is 5 frames and someetime 8 or 9. But dunno if it's the problem
I use diceplayer on arconium 7.2 with latest doomkernel.
btw. It was discussed before. Use search next time.
4.1, 4.0 or 3.1 or even 3.0 mkv 720p videos are running exacly the same way... It plays, the audio is OK but the video is laggy and slow, what makes them become out of sync with the audio...
Because you are playing videos with app that plays it in software mode, not in hardware mode. It's normal that phone can't decode 720p video with software mode. You need to get videos to play in hardware mode. BSplayer has it's own hardware support but it's still not what it's suppouse to be. The only app that play in hardware mode mkv videos with profile level 3.1 for me is DicePlayer. And it's doing it without any glitches or lags. It's perfectly A/V synced
I bought DicePlayer yesterday, I'm running my videos on it. All levels are now in 3.1, and I realized that some of them run in SW mode, and some in HW mode. When it runs in hardware mode, everything goes pretty fine... When in software mode, I get the problems. How can I "force" HW mode? Is there a way? Thanks.
You can't force hardware mode. I don't know why some videos can't be played. It must be something with encoding videos, some settings. You can compare parameters of videos that are working with those played in software mode. There must be some difference and maybe there is a way to change it fast.
I also use MX Video Player with the additional codec on my LT15i but experience no lagg at all.
I watch mostly The Walking Dead in 720p MKV
I am at 1.5 GHZ on doomkernel so maybe you could consider overclocking.
Greetz
MX player. No lag at all. I am watching Bleach episode right now
Alright, some updates.
All my mkv files are level 3.1 level now... But still some of them can't run in HW mode. The video starts to play (diceplayer, of course) in HW mode but 1 second later it gets an error and returns to SW (laggy) mode. Half of my 720p mkv videos can run like a dream in hardware decoding (3.1 level), but some of them just can't, even in 3.1 level.
For example, The.Big.Bang.Theory.S05E05.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION can run very smoothly. Hardware deconding. Butt The.Big.Bang.Theory.S05E17.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION can't do the same, it goes only in SW.
What's the difference?!?! What else can I change?
Thanks.
Maybe is because your video was compiled in 10bits, nothing to do until somebody releases a player that supports 10bits well
But you can try MOBO, it lags at the start but after 2mins start running normal
I think you have to play it with MoboPlayer dude

[Q] Very ODD High res video playback issues: 1080 & 2k

So I just recently got updated to jellybean stock from HTC (using HTC ONE X) 4.1
I never had previous problems on ICS of this nature...
All seems well until I try to play 2k (2560x1440) and some (most) 1080p videos web dl of series. (mkv or mp4)
Problem being that the screen doesn't render anything...its just black, I get the control for the media player but no actual video stream, i have audio as well, the doesn't sound like its lagging or anything, I am also able adjust brightness, volume, seek bar works as well, what I noticed is when I took a screen shot with htc default player it took the image and capped it and it was viewable...
I have tried the following: (which all use to play 2k and 1080p files no problem besides the random cutting out but i think thats htc's aggressive ram saving bs)
Mxplayer
Vplayer
default player
dice player,
all do the samething
any ideas?
Have you tried MX Player's HW+ renderer? If all else fails, could you upload the video somewhere and let me test it?

I see you're on a mod'd kernel, could make all the difference?
I am on complete stock everything
I still don't understand why mine wont play it, friend is also problems,
I'm thinking I should just root and load custom rom... only reason I'm keeping it stock is for warranty but my insurance covers anything and more that would happen to it..
this problem and the removal support of MASS STORAGE (don't like the MTP thing) like a flash drive, is another nail in the coffin for this (stock)rom

H265 issues? (medias from other phones)

Hello,
I've got a problem with some media files, I'm not finding any reasonable answers and my brain is gonna blow up!
I manually copied (I mean without smartswitch) videos from my old phones (P20 pro, mate 20 pro) on my note 10 plus. The gallery preview is working well, but I can't play them well. I have the sound but not the image.
I only encounter the issue with videos that have been encoded in h265, those in h264 are well played.
The h265 videos produced with the note 10 are played without any problems of course, and most of the h265 videos which are not from my old phones are fine.
I tried to install MX player with codecs, VLC, it does not solve the problem.
The best result is on MX player, by activating the SW decoder. I have the image, but not smooth at all.
Do you have any suggestions, ideas about the origin of the problem ? It's really painful not being able to consult all of my medias...
I put you a sample video that I'm not able to read, if you ever want to test on your device and confirm that it does not work either.
https://we.tl/t-Iu2aanB98E?src=dnl
I tested the clip you send and was having the same issues you said. But I have downloaded some h265 clips and it is working fine
Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk
Thanks for trying. It confirms me that the problème comes from the file. And I played the same video in my old phone and my computer, and it's working fine of course.
I'm just wondering why a video recorded on a Huawei (aac, h265) couldn't be played on a Samsung which is using the same codecs to record videos...
Is there any reasons...? I'm lost.
H265 codec is very complex, for example it supports 15 different color spaces etc and not every option is implemented on every device, so I would speculate some codec setting in your old phone is not implemented in the new one. I would simply recode it on a PC to settings I know work on new phone, changing as little as possible to preserve quality. I use xmedia recode, with nvidia codec it is extremely fast and you can highlight multiple files and do all at once. You can probably finish recoding the files before you figure what in particular is not working and knowing the problem still doesn't guarantee solution. Who knows, the incompatibility may have been there even on purpose.
I was able to play your video clip with no issues on my note 10+ using both MX Player and Samsung Video Play. Both are set on default.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Actually xfaega is right, your video plays fine on mine as well with stock Samsung player.
joining the party. works on diceplayer, MX player. didn't use stock player. unlocked note 10plus
Hummm.... That's strange.
Maybe the beginning of an explanation. I'm in Europe so my note 10 plus works with the exynos chipset.
Maybe you guys, have the snapdragon version?
I was waiting some système updates to see if it fix the problème... Still Not working
Have you tried using mx player?
Of course.
With mx player, It's working only with the software option. I've got an image but it's not working fine, really jerky.
