will not show as a media device on windows 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

hi I wonder if anyone could help have connected my nexus 7 2013 to my windows 732 bit but when I check the media device box the nexus does not show on the computer, but if I tick the camera box it does show up on the computer any help please to get the tab to show on the comp as a media device as I would like to transfer things onto it, thanks for your help.

have the ryt drivers installed?!?

If you installed adb drivers you can't use MTP. With you device connected, go to device manager and uninstall the adb drivers.
Instead of constantly installing and uninstalling the driver, just use a ftp WiFi transfer app. See your files remotely.

Go to Settings>Storage
Touch the "Three dots icon" at the top right corner
Enable MTP transfer.
Finally go into development settings and disable USB debugging.
If you want to enable adb usage again just do the opposite(Enable debugging and disable mtp transfer)

Manual switch ptp / mtp

When I first had my GN I was able to get to the 'usb connection to computer' options menu and switch between mtp and ptp via the settings button, without the phone being connected to a computer.
Now it comes up automatically when the phone is connected to a computer but I can't find it otherwise ???
Did one of the updates remove this option? If not can someone please tell me where it's gone!
Settings-> storage-> menu button->
That's where it is on mine.

There are a few that have trouble with larger files I think thats just how it is...
unfortunately, the fire suffers from very slow transfer speeds. i think its a hardware issue
Kindle Fire isn't USB 2.0 unfortunately. When you transfer files, it's operating under the USB 1.1 specification which is very slow.
A suggestion was made to change the USB computer connection type to MTP, and that changed transfer speeds. I personally have seen nearly twice the speed of transfer when switching. Just be sure to enable ADB Debugging so that it will connect.

Go to settings and select Developer Options, check android debugging. Go back to settings, then choose storage. There should be a three dot button (mine is in the upper right hand corner) and select USB Computer Connection. Then check MTP. If you go back to USB Mass Storage, you will have to disable (uncheck) android debugging. I had to install the windows MTP drivers on one of my systems (work) because the drivers were not included, but my home system recognized it quickly (it takes a minute for it to try to install drivers the first time). The Fire will not show up as a drive, but will show up under computer as a Media Device. Double click the Media Device icon to bring up the files folder to transfer to and from. YMMV
You saved my Life
The above comment really helped me, Now Finally I can Copy Videos to Kindle Fire Quickly & Watch Thanks mthous01
My Copy Speeds are actually improved by 5X I guess.

I meet the same problem when download files from Kindle fire to PC via MTP (using adb). The upload is still good. But when using mount USB in TWRP (recovery mode), the download speed so amazing, upto 17MB/s

[Q] Heresy Alert: SGSIII connected to a MacBook

Hey Folks,
I'm likely to be switching from AT&T to Sprint and will be getting the Galaxy SIII. Has anyone had any problems connecting it to a Macbook? I'd like to be able to sync with DoubleTwist.
Thanks!
MD
I've had trouble connecting mine. I end up using my work Windows PC for rooting etc.

Seems that there are no drivers for Mac SPH-L710 Samsung Support Page
Wonder why... *rollseyes* You can do as bluv4eva and use a windows pc, if you have one in your disposition.
try this link, might have some info on how to connect with mac.

The only way i connect my S3 to my Mac is via FTP apps (wirelessly) like Transmit, or i just use ES File Explorer to FTP files back and forth over my WiFi network, or use Kies.
Gave up on USB since it defaults to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) which just doesn't work on Macs. Couldn't get it to do UMS (Universal Mass Storage). As for music, i prefer drag and drop (via FTP).
.....and what's the heresy?? Been using Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices with my Mac since time immemorial.
Well actually i have a macbook pro running mountain lion and i been able to connect it with no problem with android file transfer( an app that is free supplied by android i think) it shows instructions for it when you connect it to your computer on your phone

Tried Android File Transfer and nothing. To be fair I was on Lion then, not MLion, and just didn't bother after that.
I like my wireless methods so far.

Syncing with sd_card or usb mode shouldn't be a problem on any device that accepts USB storage devices.
the only difference between using windows and OS X will be the ability to use MTP because microsoft is the only one that supports that particular file transfer protocol.
doubletwist sync, last i checked, didn't use mtp mode regardless of the OS of the box its connected to.
There's also airdroid from the play store that connects with phone via wifi.

back on lion i was able to do it too. What i did was i changed the storage to camera mode on phone and the file transfer app works
Virtual Machine approach to rooting
If you have a mac, and a copy of windows, create a little virtual machine using Parallels Desktop. (Note: VMWare Fusion will not work.)
Once you have your virtual machine running, Install the S3 Snapdragon Toolkit and USB drivers, connect your phone using the USB cable. Make sure to associate the phone with the VM and not OS X when prompted.
On your phone, set the mode to PTP, not MTP. You'll hear the USB device connect sound and the phone will show up as camera device, but don't focus on that. Now, run the toolkit and you'll find at the main menu your phone listed as an attached device.
Many thanks to mskip for his toolkit development.

Parallels Desktop is a little pricey at $80, but it sounds super awesome. Thanks for this.

Can't see any files or folders in Windows 10 when connected via USB

This was working before update to Android 6.0. Would appreciate any assistance on this as I really need to copy files to my device.
Thanks.
Pull down notification shade, select the notification for USB options and select MTP.
There was no USB notification. Tried reinstalling USB drivers. Didn't work. In the end I fixed it by going into Developer Options. Setting USB mode to charge only. And then switching it back to MTP.
Sometimes this happens to me, but a refresh does the job. It always shows up eventually.

When you connect the cable, does it show a little icon on the status bar? If so click on it and maybe you have it set to charging instead of file transfering

Try a different cable. Not all USB cables are created equal
When connected pull down the shade and see if it says you are connected as a media device
