Hi, ive rooted my Tab 3 8.0 using twrp/odin. It works great.
I have noticed that I am constantly being asked to select a default app for many operations and it does not stay persistent... ie next time i do the same thing it will ask me again!
I dont know where to start debugging this one!
Any help appreciated.
OMG !!!
Just touch "Always" instead of "Ask again" when asked

Really.?? You think a member of xda with over 20 years dev experience would not think of that?
Pull your head in.
There are a number of unanswered posts on several boards from users with this issue. It *may* be a problem with Nova launcher or titanium. This happened around the time I installed those.
I had to freeze the default launcher to get Nova to function correctly. Perhaps that is the issue.
It may also be a permission issue. I've used the boot loader to reset my permissions to no avail.
Can anyone direct me to the storage where the default app register is?
Any other ideas?

So you spent 20 year of experience on XDA ?
That's great !!!
I also have any other idea. Maybe you should wipe cache and dalvik-cache in recovery or reset all settings of the app named "Default Container".
You may also reinstall your ROM.

I would clear all my preferences and start all over and see if that works. Settings>manage apps>all>hit menu button and choose "clear all".

Hi,
I know this may sound a slightly noob question but I wouldn't be asking if there was an obvious solution.
You know when using the built in browser on Facebook and say there is a YouTube video your friend has posted and you click to veiw it. When you click it up pops an option of how to veiw it in your browser, in youtube or whatever other browser and also an option to keep it as a default.
My question is once you have selected to keep as default how do you revert back so that you have the option to how the video is launched?

You can try this:
Settings-Applications-Manage applications-tab All ( second one on top)-find Youtube (it is last or from the last ones)-tab onto "Clear data" or "Clear cache"
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Tried clearing data and cache for both YouTube and browser videos still open in the 'always open with' there must be a restore so you have various options.

You were right just done it. Had to 'clear defaults' in Manage Apps for Internet. Many thanks that was driving me round the bend as I couldn't find a way to do it before

I disabled the stock email app from the Application menu. It does not give the option to ENABLE like all other apps. The button where ENABLE usually is, is shaded out and shows DISABLED.
Anyone know how to enable?

This picture means the opposit. You can not disable the stock mail
And it says "Disable" not "Disabled"
But I did disable it. Can't find it anywhere in my app lists.

Can you elaborate further? I did the same thing. I'm not currently rooted and was hoping to avoid having to reset the phone to re-enable.
The "enable" button that should be there really isn't there.

I think what he is saying is go into /system/app using RootExplorer and tap on the .apk to initialize the Android Installer. Since all you did was disable it, it should still be sitting there in /system/app. Just install it again. A wipe of dalvik cache may be necessary, but I'm not sure about that.

Unfortunately that didn't work from rootexplorer. I checked logcat and it talked about classes.dex related errors while trying to load that APK. So I guess this method is a no-go.
Can't exactly clear dalvik cache since the phone isn't rooted.
Anybody has encountered this message when updating apps from the store?

Most stock builds have a point it wont let you go past for apps. So if you have something like only 10% free on internal, it may not let you install any more. How much storage do you have left?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There is plenty of storage available...

Ok, then yeah, thats a problem.
Did you try again after a reboot?
If so try going into recovery and clear cache and dalvik.

Restored a previous backup. All is good. Very weird though. I also noticed there was another playstore service app installed in addition to the normal google playstore. Probably they have made updates

It happened to me for the first time when I tried to update to a newer version of Astro file manager. Did not happen with other apps though.
I am running stock firmware, rooted.

When I got that message, long story short, it was because I got a paid app for free and tried to use a license key app. Bottom line, pay for the app the honest way.

I got that message while updating flipboard which is a free app. Appware was causing that problem. Once uninstalled problem solved.

If you use "Lucky Patcher", you may want to go to the Troubleshooting menu option and select the "insufficient storage available" option...

Can someone please help? My wifes GN2 gallery app has been deleted somehow. Her phone is stock and unrooted. From my understanding root is required to delete a system app, so I'm not sure how it happened. Does anyone have any ideas on how to recover the gallery, aside from factory reset? Maybe an apk? Thanks!
SOLVED
It's probably not deleted. Open your app draw, then click menu and select hide applications. Find gallery and uncheck it.

I've checked the app drawer, and it's not hidden. I have also looked in the application manager, it's missing from there as well.

Okay that's strange because you do need root to remove a system app. Silly question, have you scrolled to the bottom of app manager where the disabled apps are and made sure it wasn't accidently disabled?
Also, have your rebooted and seen I'd it just shows back up
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Thank you guys for the replies. I have performed a reboot, however I have not scrolled to the bottom of the app manager to see if it was disabled. I only looked for it in the alphabetical list. I'll try that when she gets home with her phone.

Is there anyway to disable S-Voice?
Looked in settings and I can't find anything.
S-Voice seems to have a mind of it's own.
It starts by itself and it can be quite disturbing in the wrong setting.
I am not rooted and don't feel confident enough to root.
Thanks,
Shofar1

Its classed as a system app, so there is no way to uninstall it if you havent rooted. You can use apps such as titanium backup to do so if you have rooted though.
If not, you should be able to find it in settings > application manager > all > s voice > disable
I uninstalled it so cant confirm it that second option i suggested will work.
I disabled it in app manager like heartsjonmon says above. I haven't seen it since, thank God. I used to accidently hit the home button through the cover and set it off while I was carrying it. I am so glad that annoyance is gone! What was Samsung thinking!?!

Actually looking back at my posts it looks like I just unchecked everything in the s Voice menu and that alone seems to be enough. I can't even find the app in my app manager. If you look at my posts, you will find two other suggestions that other people made top disable it too which should also work.
