I will try that tomorrow.. I hope it erases all my bugs..
One noob question... Full Wipe is Factory Reset?
Edit: Formated Everything except internal storage before install Rom, then.. something strange happened.. my backgroud menu was bugged.. like seeing another menu behind settings menu.. even in twrp i saw the original USB menu of stock..
Not just factory reset. A full wife is made in cwm recovery and it has 3 stages : factory wipe/data,wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, format /system.

A full wipe doesn't mean format /system. If you format system after flashing a rom then there is no rom exists in your phone anymore. Performing a factory reset also clean cache partition too.
if you would've payed attention, he mentioned he made the wipes BEFORE flashing a custom rom. so, yes, it's recommended to perform a /system format.

i have a unlocked & rooted galaxy nexus....i flash the rom open kang build 22 & flash the gapps 4.0.4 after i rebooted. i stocked in bootanimation & hang up & appear the google logo, always like that...cannot start.....HELP please....
Wipe and reflash the ROM then Gapps, then boot.
Did you do a full wipe. Wipe factory/data, cache partition and in the advanced menu wipe dalvik cache. Then flash rom and gapps
After you flash the rom, wipe data, cache, dalvik and flash gapps. You cant just flash rom than the 4.0.4 gapps you will get the bootloop.
i already do full wipe & still the same problem?
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash Gapps
6. Reboot

I always flash like that never have a problem. Never reflash after flash. Try to flash another ROM OP to see if it was the ROM or not.

There are no "correct" procedures with the exeption of the fact that there is no need to wipe after you flash the rom.
1. Make sure you have your ROM , Gapps package on your SD card
2. Reboot into Recovery
3. Make a backup (you don't have to if you don't want to or if you already have one )
4. Wipe Data
5. Wipe Cache
6. Wipe Dalvik Cache
7. Format System (not exactly necessary but I always do it)
8. FLASH ROM
9 . Flash Gapps

I wasnt being an Arse, Its in my previous post, I edited your Quote. However, Its not overly clear
Total newb question but on the CM10 thread they say:
Instructions:
First time flashing CyanogenMod 10 your device, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.
Click to collapse
.... they don't say how to flash if you are upgrading.
Some in the thread say that they just "dirty flash" it.
What exactly is a "dirty flash"?

dirty flash means you didnt wipe data/cache.
most of the time, you can dirty flash newer versions of the same rom over the older version of the rom you have.
HOWEVER, if you have problems, you need to wipe data/cache and reflash the rom completely

Guess I might as well wipe the cache and dalvik even on a dirty flash?
Thanks
I upgraded from CM10 M1 to M2 with only a wipe of Dalvik cache. Works fine.
I finished installing M2 after wiping both the cache and dalvik cache (figured I would do the cache just in case).
Worked great!
Thanks all

***what Nexus version do you have?*** i've used the below instructions with GSM GNex***
If you're coming from an AOSP CM9 rom, Do the following :
Download Maguro (or your models ROM+Gappsl).
- boot into recovery.
- Preform NANDroid Backup.
- Wipe Dalvik cache.
- Wipe Factory reset.
- Wipe Cache.
- install zip from SDcard>choose zip from SDcard>ROM.zip (your ROM)
- Flash Gapps.zip
- Flash kernel.zip (if you have one)
- go to Advanced> Fix Permissions
- Reboot system now !
- Enjoy.
***I've used this method for a trillion flashes !***
No need to wipe anything when updating nightlies. Like it was said before, wipe data and reflash when you face problems.

planning to install cm9.1 on my phone, i rooted my phone and installed cwm 5.0.2.7 i wipe the Wipe data/factory reset and cache sucessfully but i cant wipe dalvik cache, my phone hangs up when i pressed it and goes back to the cmw homescreen..
i installed cwm 5.0.2.6 and had the same result.. what will i do to wipe dalvik cache? is it necessary to wipe it before installing a custom rom?
or should i just follow this install guide from Maclaw
"Flash Cyanogenmod 9:
Download and copy the latest CM9 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select Install zip from sd card
Select Choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM9 rom package
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Now select Wipe data/factory reset
Confirm
Now reboot to phone.
Wait and enjoy CM9 on your Galaxy Gio "
You don't have to wipe dalvik, its wiped in wipe data/factory reset.

Well, dalvik cache wipe is unnecessary if you wipe data.

+1 :good:
Note to OP: Don't flash Gapps if it is included already in the ROM you installed.
after flash i wipe the cache/dalvik. I think it is the option after you flash in twrp.
Thanks for your answers
