hello everyone,
Im thinking of buying Optimus 2 Pro with glass cracked coz its cheap at Ebay.
how hard is the glass repair procedure?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I recently replaced my glass.. it was fairly simple. Took about 30 minutes.
Just make sure you have all the tools you need before starting, and new adhesive strips.

I got my screen for $35·°° delivered.
I already had the screw driver, plastic pry tool and spudger..
You can get the tool kits for about $10·°°
Or if you look, some of the replacement screens come with the tools and adhesive.
Here is one with the screen, adhesive and tools for under $30·°°

Most of the adhesive just peels off by hand. I used rubbing alcohol for the places where the adhesive touched the LCD. And for general cleaning before final assembly.

Thanks for the help,
BTW, in your opinion, is it possible to separate the cracked glass without removing the back cover (battery and circuit board) ?
I don't think so the glass has a ribbon that plugs into the back if the mother board.

hello Esimon,
thanks for time to response however I notice that the Amazon link you posted refers to the Touch Screen Digitizer (with ribbon).
I was hoping to find a "glass only repair" similar to the Galaxy Note 3 "glass only repair"
In the Galaxy Note 3, the cracked glass can be taken out without removing circuit board and its glass replacement (no ribbon) cost only $ 8.
Is it possible to just replace the " replacement glass" in Optimus G Pro" without replacing the whole "Touch Screen Digitzer" ?

The glass is the touch digatizer... the glass has a ribbon commuting off it that connects to the motherboard.
You must remove the mother board to replace the glass/digitizer.

Thanks Esimon,
By the way, this is a different situation from my previous question.
I notice in the youtube link you shared. In the demo of separating the cracked digitizer from the LCD, there was no OEM adhesive at the center of the LCD.
This is really confusing me because I watched the digitizer removal of Nexus 4 (Optimus G Pro predecessor) and the repair guy is very careful in removing the cracked digitizer from the OEM adhesive LCD.
Watch this link in 4:24 at www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI55gTtLYHI using the razor blades and wire.

The digitizer is glued to the frame. Not the LCD. Notice where he puts his new double sided stickey tape on this video.

Hello esimon,
1.where did your purchase the 35 bucks replacement digitizer?
2. Do you know how to remove the unexpected bubbles after the placing the new digitizer?
I bought my digitizer of Amazon. A simple search for "Optimus G Pro replacement screen" will yield several options...
You shouldn't have any bubble, after installing the new screen..because the digitizer and LCD ARE NOT glued together.

I think it would be possible.but you would need to remove digitizer without damaging it,then remove upper glass, fit the gorilla glass then put the digitizer back.the upper glass has nothing to do with the digitizer unless they are completely glued together.and it would be really hard,or maybie impossible if you have a gt-i5801,because there are no hard buttons, and touch buttons are in one piece with the glass.

$17.90 for front glass, not bad. I have a surface scratch on mine that has been bugging me, might be cheap enough to be worth the trouble. Has anybody had any experience ordering from that website? Is there any instructions included on how to replace the items or is that something that you just have to find on your own?

Any luck with this? Looking to do the same with my i515 gnex, does anyone happen to know if the glass cutouts for the two versions are the same?
From what I read, its strongly recommend to replace the whole unit(screen, digitizer, and glass) because its a huge pain to get glass off if you are lucky enough to do so.

I know its tricky, but i've done it before(heat is my friend). Once you do it once it actually isn't bad especially because the nexus has the slight lip around the screen which helps you big time with positioning the glass. I'm just confused if the two glass cutouts are the same or not.
So I still have broken glass that is finally starting to fall out whilst the cracks have gotten larger, no thanks to my two year old who loves to throw toys.
Has anyone seen the glass replacement, not the digitizer, last long term?
I'm trying to hold out until October but concerned that I'm going to lose the screen entirely soon.

My phone has EXACTLY the same crack pattern!! And I know how bad it feels.
Is this some design issue with the GNex stress points?
I asked the Samsung Care Center and they asked around $185 for the replacement (glass and digitizer)
That is more than half of the phone cost. :crying:
(Edit: They said as the front glass, the digitizer and the lcd are glued together, it is impossible to get a seperate glass replacement)
Luckily I had a screen guard on so the glass pieces are not falling apart yet.
You can get the glass and ask a trustworthy maintenance guy for helping replace it.
I haven't tried yet. But might try soon. :fingers-crossed:

Technically it will work. If you're fine with having a gray screen and a white back cover, go ahead and do it! Will the screen replacement come with a home button? You have to replace that too if you're coming from a white phone.
Replacing the screen is no easy task. If you're replacing the entire assembly, including the LCD, it's much simpler; but just the lens? It's laminated to the digitizer layer, the touch layer, and the LCD itself. You've very little chance of doing a quality replacement.
I broke my screen a couple of weeks ago. Very upset over it so I've looked into exactly what you're doing. I've settled for just putting a film protector over it and living with it for now.
Thank you both for replying and it is the whole lcd unit I will be replacing, and was unsure incase the white lcd was different to the gray and I can only get gray from a shop nearby.
And sorry to hear you have broken yours too, mine is very noticeable, but I use a flip cover so I don't have to look at it all the time

How would I go about finding out what's cracked on my phone? If I'm correct there's a digitizer, touch screen and the glass.
The top is cracked, but how would I go about finding out if the pieces under are cracked without opening the phone?
Just want to double check before buying anything.

If the screen still responds to touch and there aren't any dead pixels, then its just the glass itself. Basically if everything looks and works as it should, then the only thing damaged (in your case) is the glass.
