I've been having some trouble trying to boot the latest AOKP for some reason, clean install didn't work so I restored a backup from recovery. After that, TWRP asked me for a password soon as I got into recovery. This is the first time I've seen this..and I figure that reflashing the recovery should be all I need to do, then I should be able to reflash AOKP and enjoy, right? Problem is, I can't find a .tar file as goo.im doesn't appear to want to give me the file. :crying:
So before I spend the rest of my day off on a wild chase for a simple file, can anyone tell me if I'm going about this the right way? My searching the issue hasn't yielded much in the way of results. Just want to get my phone back up and running!
EDIT:
I wasn't being clear enough. Despite restoring my backup, it force closed one thing or another every few seconds so I went to recovery to reflash. That's when things failed because of this password. I'm limited to download and recovery modes now, which isn't bad except for I still can't find a .tar to flash via Odin.
Reflashing TWRP hasn't resolved the password issue. Looks like I need to find a new angle..
what version are you on? did you just flash that same version?
Was at 2.5.0.0, and yes I reflashed the same one. I can't remember which version I was on before this one. Any recommendations?
perhaps revert to the previous release. if you're d2att, here's the link to the 2.4.4.0 tar
This version throws the same password prompt. I never set a password for this..didn't even know it was an option

Just went through trying different versions all the way back to 2.3.3.1 which I know I used for quite a while without any trouble. I want to try CWM but I can't find it in .tar form, just .img
WOW!! I found CWM version 5.8.4.7 on my computer's HDD, and so I flashed it. CWM wouldn't mount my external sd card where my ROM zips are. Got tired of messing with that and so I flashed back TWRP and it came back with the same password prompt. Great... Guess I'm flashing back to stock and starting over.

follow this link to the root from recovery thread. download the root kit and flash the recovery.tar.md5 file. its an older cwm so after flashing, you have the option to download and flash a recovery flashable twrp zip (to see if that fixed the password issue) or remain on cwm and download/flash a new release
follow the link in my signature. at the bottom of post #2 are the download links for the latest releases to both cwm and twrp. flash in recovery, go to advanced and reboot recovery. presto

Thanks for that. Flashed a CWM 6.0.3.1 flashable zip after that, and now it's giving me an error trying to flash my ROM zip.. Status 7. Going to try redownloading it..
Update: "Install from sdcard complete." Was starting to think I'd never see those words. I'm sure it'll work now. Thanks so much for your time!
Grrr...It's still doing the same thing that started this adventure. Gets stuck at the underwear kernel loading screen and won't boot up.
CWM and TWRP nandroids are different. If you make a backup with TWRP you cant restore with CWM, and vice versa.
if you're still getting stuck on the loading screen, wipe data/factory reset in recovery and wipe cache. reboot and see if that fixes your issue

I've tried this many times, nothing's working. I got fed up and used ODIN to go back to stock, and now even THAT won't boot. Went to download, again flashed CWM and tried wiping cache, did a factory reset and fixed permissions. It STILL won't boot. I can't figure out what I did wrong to save my life. This all started with the same wipe procedures I always take when updating AOKP. I'm completely lost right now..
Maybe I spoke too soon. It went from the Samsung GSIII logo to the AT&T logo with startup sound after a long time..now it's sitting here at Samsung for..a long time. Maybe I haven't been giving it enough time.
When you use ODIN to flash back to stock, you usually have to boot into stock (not custom) recovery to wipe data and wipe cache. Otherwise the phone sits at the Samsung logo.

So, boot into download mode and that will wipe cache? I'm not sure I understand. And you were right, it hasn't progressed past the samsun logo.
No, boot into the stock recovery mode that comes on the device. Don't flash the stock firmware and then flash cwm in order to wipe data and wipe cache. Just flash stock in ODIN with the auto reboot box unticked, when you get the PASS, unplug, pull battery, replace and immediately press the recovery mode button combo. This will place you in stock (Samsung) recovery. That's when you wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache. Reboot. It will take a few minutes to boot initially

Will report in a few minutes. Thanks again for taking the time to help =)
When I went to recovery it showed the android guy with the little gearboxes. I guess that's what I was looking for? It rebooted by itself and now I'm just waiting for it.
Yup, that's what stock recovery looks like. Were you able to wipe data and cache before the reboot?
hey everybody, i rooted my s4 a couple days ago and it was working fine until i rebooted it too much in a short amount of time last night. Im a complete noob and new to customization. the phone is just stuck on the tmobile screen and wont go past it at all. i factory wiped it from stock recovery and that still did not help.
the root I used was: true- android. blogspot -dot- com / 2013 /11 /install -uvuemk2-android-43-jb-firmware.html
I followed everything correctly and the phone was rooted properly by odin.
theres not much else to it except that i was using font installer- a very stupid app that set its fonts to default and i was trying to get rid of them.
also i rerooted the phone using the same processes in the link above and nothing happened.
to the mods: sorry if this issue has been resolved somewhere else. if you know where please let me know. Thanks everybody!

Here is a sure fix for your issue.
Download cf-autoroot and odin flash it, but be sure you uncheck the
checkmark in odin which says "auto reboot" before flashing.
(unzip cf-autoroot so you get the TAR file which odin needs)
After flashing cf-autoroot use the power button to power off the phone.
Here is the direct download link for cf-autoroot:
http://download.chainfire.eu/328/CF-...mo-sghm919.zip
After that's done you need to odin flash TWRP custom recovery.
Here is the direct download for TWRP custom recovery
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/jfl...1-jfltetmo.tar
After you are done flashing TWRP the phone should work properly
without any further issues.
I would highly suggest that after your phone is working properly make
a nandroid backup if the rom in TWRP recovery before you change any
settings, adding/installing or flashing any mods, themes or apps.
Good luck!

Yes, in the latest odin version the pda is now called "AP" and yes
it's always best to un-check auto-reboot in Odin and always
power the phone down manually after odin flashes anything.

Go into recovery and do a "Factory Reset", don't wipe anything except cache and dalvik cach
then do the "factory reset" and reboot the phone.
By doing that it will delete any files and settings which are related to your previous rom version
you had before you Odin flashed the full 4.3 official Samsung M919 Jellybean firmware.
The factory reset will not wipe your internal/external sdcard and it will not wipe any personal files,
contacts, music, videos or pictures.
All the factory reset in recovery does is to make sure that you only have the new
updated Samsung M919 official Jelleybean 4.3 rom related files in your phone.
Google will replace your contacts and other settings using your gmail account
automatically after you sign into your gmail account.
Good luck!

If you read me post about flashing KToonsez kernel it does not mention
anything about ODIN. This kernel needs only TWRP recovery,

can you find me the link to get stock firmware? ive looked on google and its impossible to find. thanks! Happy New Year!
I have PayPal for which I will use to donate an amount to the person(s) who can help me.
I just recently got a new GS4 becuase of an insurance replacement. I looked at the specs before I flashed TWRP. After failing to install 4.2.2 ROMS, I finally found a 4.3 mk2 stock ROM to install. I have the phone working. But TWRP is not installed. My phone tests positive for ROOT with Rootchecker
Currently I'm getting this message everytime I boot "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing"
I have multiple 4.4.2 and 4.3 ROMs I like to use on my SD card, I'd like to continue from a TWRP backup i've made using that recovery.
Here are my current specs:
Model
SGH-M919
Android Version
4.3
Baseband
M919UVUEMK2
Kernel Version
[email protected] #1
Build Number
JSS15J.M919UVUEMK2
SELinux status
Permissive
Secure boot status
Type: Samsung
The replacement phone was probably already on the MK2 bootloader and modem when you received it. Which means you had Knox pre-installed and tripped it when you rooted the phone. The "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" error message does not affect the functioning of your phone in any way. It's just a part of the Knox bootloader. You can continue to re-install TWRP recovery and flash any ROM you want. Your phone will function as normal. Just don't try reverting to the 4.2.2 MDL baseband/modem because it won't work. There's currently no way to revert to 4.2.2 MDL if you're on MK2 or higher. If you want to get rid of the message just flash the stock kernel in a recovery.
Try to be careful with your replacement phone now since you tripped Knox. It might be harder to get a replacement depending on how T-Mobile is.
No donations are needed for these kinds of things.
Ok Im flashing Infamous 4.4.2 Version 3.7 after ODIN flashing TWRP 2.6.3.1
The only reason I'm flashing that ROM is because no backups are not showing theirselvesin the Restore option, what would cause that?
Is TWRP 2.5.0.2 better?
Did I miss a step? All my actions were using odin to flash the twrp recover, and then flash another ROM, or restoring a Previous Back. Should I have flashed a rooted bootloader, or rooted firmware or anything besides those two?

The backups could either be stored on the internal or external SD card. Try switching between both and see if they appear. They'll be in the TWRP folder on the root of either the internal/external storage.
I've had no problems with the latest TWRP v2.7.0.1. If you have problems then use v2.5.0.2.
If you have connection problems after installing Infamous 4.4.2, you might need to Odin the newest KitKat NB4 modem found here.
Download the file and flash MODEM.bin via Odin under the phone slot.
Personally, since you already tripped Knox, you should just Odin flash the complete NB4 KitKit stock ROM which will give you the newest modem without having to mess with anything else or do various flashing of things. Everything for flashing NB4 KitKit can be found here. Download the full 4.4 firmware from here.

You will still be able to flash the custom ROM after you Odin flash the KitKat NB4 firmware. The steps are as followed:
1. Open Odin v3.07.
2. UNcheck the boxes that say auto reboot and f. reset time.
3. Power off your phone and enter Download Mode by holding down the Vol DOWN + Home + Power buttons at the same time. Hit Vol UP after the warning message comes up.

6. Wait for it to run an MD5 check. The program will freeze and unfreeze when it's done.
7. Click start and let Odin flash the ROM.
8. When it says PASS, unplug the phone and long press the power button until the phone turns off and reboots on its own. Leave it alone for about 2 minutes and then power it off.

tl:dr I've been trying to flash the stock firmware using Odin but nothing seems to change after I reboot.
SGH-T889
TWRP v2.6.3.1
Devil Kernel
Jedi X Rom (20)
I had this setup for a few months until this morning when my phone had shut off on its own some time while I was sleeping. Turning on the phone would only load up to the Devil Kernel Splash screen. I can get into TWRP but it asks me for a password that I never set. After some searching, I'm assuming that this is because my data partition has possibly been corrupted.
I've tried doing a factory reset in TWRP, it says it's successful but practically there is no change. The console states that it is unable to mount /efs, /cache, and /system.
I tried using 'Format Data', but choosing this options only seems to reset TWRP because I see the TWRP splash screen and then am asked for a password again. From my understanding, shouldn't formatting the data should remove any encryption?
I tried to just reflash the stock firmware to reset everything but every time I finish flashing in Odin, Odin states that everything is fine but there is no change on my phone. I still only see the kernel splash screen on boot.
I've tried doing an Emergency Firmware Recovery through Kies but Kies is unable to do anything after it detects my device version.

Odin the UVALJ1 ROM (i use the Mr. Robinson rooted version). I have been down that road before. I had to flash 2x before it fixed my devices file system.
Then install the current TWRP recovery as 2.6.3.1 is not the best option. From there you should be able to get started again.

I tracked down the ROM that you're referring to by mrRobinson but after trying another 4 times I'm still getting the same results.
Can you clarify your second line about TWRP recovery? I tried seeing if TWRP was the problem since I could not format data but I cannot flash any new recoveries (stock, CWM, or older versions of TWRP). Does anyone know of any alternate means other than flashing through Odin?
Thanks for the reply though, hearing that other people have had similar problems gives me some hope.

I tracked down the ROM that you're referring to by mrRobinson but after trying another 4 times I'm still getting the same results.

Try the UVUCMK7 version. That might do it.
Your version of TWRP is old. Try the current version for better results. My first issues with corruption involved 2.6.3.1 though I can't implicate it directly.

Thanks again for the response! Flashing recoveries in Odin isn't giving me any results so I'll try getting an external sd card and flashing version 2.7.2.0 from within TWRP.

So I can't seem to change my recovery. Odin will supposedly pass but the version stays the same in my phone. Within TWRP I cannot mount my external sd card so I can't flash from there either.
I tried to see if I could do something with ADB but TWRP won't let me go into ADB side load because it cannot mount /cache.
Any ideas?
Download the ODIN flashable version of TWRP and flash from within ODIN. That will get you at least a new recovery. From there you can restore/etc. I had a similar issue a few weeks back. My partitions got corrupted and doing the standard full ODIN, regardless of which ODINversion/firmware combo I used, resulted in me having a stock recovery with literally nothing else. System, cache, data....nothing would mount. I thought I was permanently soft bricked. Each ODIN flash seemed to go well, but upon booting up, the phone would immediately go into stock recovery with those mounting errors. I used the ATT version of twrp 2.7.2.2...or whatever the latest version was because it had the partition repair option that the TMO version hasn't been updated to yet.
Install the recovery from ODIN.
Boot into recovery.
Click the wipe tab. Then do the advanced wipe...select one partition at a time then click on the 'repair partition' option. I think only cache, system and data can be repaired. The others won't let you repair. Will give an error saying failed or not repairable or something like that.
That's what helped me get out of my dilemma. Fortunately, I had a stock backup on an SD card I was able to restore at that point. If you don't, flash a new ROM, log in, then download Mobile ODIN from the market. You can then flash full firmwares from within the phone itself and get back to 100% stock, minus boot loader. But if you're already on the 4.3 bootloader then there won't be any problems.
I'll check back to see if you had any success. It worked for me, but I offer no guarantees.
Good luck.

I already have TWRP 2.6.3.1. In trying to see if that version is a problem, I've tried flashing a different version through Odin but it doesn't have any effect (the version will always stay as 2.6.3.1 regardless of what I flash through Odin).
So it's been a week since my issue started and I haven't gotten any further since I started.
I've tried flashing a new pit file to no avail (stuck on get pit file mapping). I've also tried doing a nand rewrite but I get a nondescript error.
As of this point I've given up and am just going to use an old phone lying around until my contract is up. If you've found this thread because you've had similar issues I wish you better luck than I had.
Some background here. My son has screwed up his phone.
S3 i747 AT&T
was rooted using Kingo Root.
No custom ROM.
He tried to update to 4.3 OTA a couple days ago. Now it will boot to the Galaxy SIII logo then go black. I can get to ODIN mode and stock recovery mode. I am just at a loss as to what to do next. Reading the forum has gotten a little overwhelming as to exactly what I need to do to get it back.
Can someone give me some instructions as to what to do?
If you need more info I will check this thread and provide it. As far as any specifics that can be found in the 'About phone' menu, I cannot remember what the specs were so that isnt possible for me to provide.
Thank you very much for any help.
First of all, don't panic. If you still have download mode and recovery working the phone is very fixable. Second of all, don't start flashing stuff willy-nilly. You have to be a little careful with this phone once it is on 4.3 and later firmware, and from what you've posted it is not entirely clear how far the update proceeded.
I don't think download mode or stock 3e recovery will tell you what firmware your phone is running, and it is important to know that before proceeding. Do you see anything about "warranty bit" when you're in download mode? If you see warranty bit then you successfully updated to a 4.3 (or higher) bootloader. Definitely don't try to use Odin to flash any full firmware updates if you see warranty bit in download mode. It would probably just fail, but if it actually proceeded it would attempt to downgrade the bootloader and hard brick the phone.
At this point, my recommendation is to use Odin to flash the latest TWRP recovery on the phone. Just in case, don't let the phone auto-reboot after flashing with Odin, uncheck everything but f.reset time in Odin. Upon success unplug the USB cable and pull the battery. Replace the battery and boot straight to recovery by pressing and holding vol up + home + power and releasing when you see the blue text in the upper left that says recovery booting.
Once up in TWRP go into Advanced -> Terminal and enter:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
Report back the output of that command here, and that will set what to flash next to fix the phone.
Another thing you can do with the phone booted in TWRP is connect it to a PC via USB and transfer files from the phone to the computer in case anything needs backed up. The PC should automatically mount the phone as a media device. It might end up being necessary to format the phone's internal storage to get it booting a ROM normally again, so this wouldn't be a bad pre-planning step.
How do I download the recovery file from the TWRP link you provided? I cant really tell how to download but I can see the file I need.
Here is what is displayed in Odin mode
Odin mode
Product name: sgh-i747
Current binary: custom
System status: custom
Qualcomm secureboot: enable
Warranty Bit: 1

Since you see warranty bit, you're definitely on a 4.3+ bootloader. Do not download and try to flash the full firmware file from sammobile.com to restore the phone. It would either fail or or hard brick the phone if it did proceed due to attempting to downgrade the bootloader.
Download this TWRP https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/twrp-2.8.7.0-d2att.img.tar. Flash the tar file using the PDA menu from Odin. Most people recommend Odin 3.07 for use with this phone. If you've never used Odin before, you'll have to get the samsung USB drivers working on the PC too.
Get Odin and the samsung drivers from this thread if you need them.
It would be nice if you could just restore the phone using Odin, but AT&T never let a firmware past jellybean 4.1.1 be released. And since you now appear to be on a 4.3 bootloader you cannot downgrade.
I will try this when I get home from work in the morning and report back. Thanks for the detailed help!

That ROM should be a good choice. This is easiest if you have a microSD you can use with a PC adapter to store the ROM on, but it can be done without a microSD if need be. If you don't have a microSD you'll have to copy the ROM zip to the phone from PC via USB.
To get it running, first go into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe and tick Dalvik Cache, System, Data, and Cache and wipe them. Then go to Install, flash the ROM zip and reboot. Since you're coming from a stock ROM that should be all you have to do. First boot will be long, maybe 10 minutes or so.
Sometimes touchwiz ROMs are a bear to get to boot. If it hangs on boot for more than 15 or 20 minutes its not going to boot. Pull the battery and boot back into TWRP. Repeat the wipe of dalvik, system, data, and cache. Then go into Wipe -> Format Data and type "yes" to confirm formatting the internal storage. At this point you'll have to copy over your ROM zip again unless it is stored on an external microSD. Flash the ROM and reboot again. Usually formatting the internal storage is enough to get touchwiz ROMs to boot, but there are a few more tricks if it still hangs.

Following that ROM thread is confusing. Not sure if I need to install the recommended bootloader in the first post of that thread. It mentions NJ1 but not NJ2. I assume my NJ2 will work since it is the newer version but I'm still unsure.

At NJ2 you seem to have updated to the newest bootloader for the AT&T S3. Never ever try to downgrade it. You're stuck :silly:
enewman rebased his ROM to NJ2 shortly after it came out. Download this one https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347829298
That ROM is up and running. Cannot imagine how grateful I am for your help in this matter.
