It's quite annoying because i cannot copy stuff to my tab from recovery, i have to use ADB command line instead..
Is it just me?

Anyone? How do you copy stuff in recovery without ADB?
For accessing files on my USB I use Stickmount and can copy files with my File Manager. I can also flash Roms that are on the USB with TWRP..

But you are talking about app , when you are booted in Android correct?
I'm talking about moving stuff to sdcard in Recovery. e.g. connecting it with my PC in recovery using USB cable wont show me any storage in "my computer", and mounting "USB-OTG" does nothing.
I have no problems copying stuff when i'm booted in Android, storage is properly detected/mounted.
But in recovery i have to use ADB to copy anything to my tab, is there solution for this?

You can't mount to your computer in TWRP. USB-OTG is something different.
Yes I do it all the time. I only have the 8GB so I use USB Flash Drives, or microsd cards through an adapter all the time. I have 3 cheap USB OTG adapters I got from eBay. And one Meenova SDCard adapter. But I use micro SD's with a USB adapter with the USB OTG cables as well.
I pretty much always do this when I backup in TWRP, or am Flashing a rom.
There is two ways to do it really.
One. Go to the advanced and select Mount. On that page I just unselected everything and select USB OTG. Then you don't have to do anything else. Its just like when u select the radiobox it is marked as being mounted, you can then access any files on it using whatever means depending on the circumstances, it will be located at the root of your device, at the bottom there is a dir named 'USB-OTG' select that and your files should be in there.
The second way, go to mount, but below all the options there is a box that says 'Storage 1xxxxx mb'. Etc. Just tap that box and it let's you select either USB-OTG or the devices storage. I use this option to make a band backup so it just defaults to a TWRP/Backups/ dir on the drive. Instead of having to fiddle with all that backing up to get to a custom dir.
It should work. There is no indication that it is mounted if that's what you mean, unless there is an led on your drive of coarse.
Just head to the root dir and USB OTG should be there and you be all good.
But yeah your computer is not a hard drive so you can't just mount it like one. You could technically if you took your hard drive out and connected it with adapters, but a Flash Drive is like $5 these days for one that can hold even the biggest of files you would ever need in recovery.

All you have to do is, Re-Format the MicroSD card in your computer (I use windows 7) using SDFormatter v4.0. Click the "Options" button and for "Format Type", Select "Quick" and for "Format Size Adjustment" Select "On". Thats it! And it will Surely be recognized in TWRP (i use v2.7). Hope that helps.
I have exactly the same problem. I have flashed a number of ROMs from a USB stick via an OTG adapter.
But now the tablet has stopped recognizing the USB OTG. As the tablet (a Nexus 7 Grouper) has no SD slot, there is no way of transferring the ROM files. So I'm stuck.

I never got TWRP to see the OTG if I inserted it whilst the tablet was running. Only when I booted with OTG did it see it.
If you are using an adapter, say USB-A to USB-micro then some don't work well.
twrp otg
Thanks for the reply
I just use a small otg adapter, usb c male on one side and regular usb female on other side.

I'm having this same damn problem. TWRP really sucks ass on mounting USB-OTG... sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn't... I don't know what to do either when I can't load any ROMS on there!!

Bought an USB OTG cable few weeks ago and it just arrived today.
When connected to the GS3 I have (T999V), it says "security policy use of external SD card".
When I go into MYfile app and search for USB OTG, nothing appeared (a flash drive is attached with text documents and other various files)
The question, isn't the Galaxy S3 suppose to recognize this USB OTG? and there's no need to install any app to help it recognize it.
Running Team Sonic R3 Custom ROM right now.
Can anyone help me on this problem?
Because the USB OTG is one the the features that intrigued me buying the GS3!
My usb otg cable is on the way from China, so don't have hands on experience. But in ES file manager, if you navigate to /mnt/ folder you can see provision to support upto 6 usb drives as you can see in the screenshot. So try navigating to /mnt and see if you can access your usb drives from there.

Well, it is not completely unusable for me.
After I install the "USB Mass storage watcher" from the play store and mount the OTG it became usuable.
But sometimes it crashes. Also, isn't the device itself already compatible with the OTG itself? Why should I need to install the app in order from me to use the OTG? (these are the two main question here).
Also, the app isn't fully stable, it crashes sometimes and it is very hard to use. (everytime you unplug your USB device you have to mount it again)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
p.s: I have tried to look in the ES file Manager and I did see 6 USB dirve and 1 usbOTG option. But before I use the app to mount the OTG device on my phone none of the options works. When I mount the device through the program, I can browse the files on my USB drive in the "usbOTG" option.

Mine works fine I bought a $3 otg cable from Amazon i have the t-mobile S3 stock rooted

Follow up on USB Host
I too am using an HTC One X running 4.1.1
I've got an OTG cable and have tried connecting a thumb drive and card reader. Both work. The drives are visible and accessible on the phone. That's USB storage which isn't the same as USB Host, but it shows that the port is active.
I can plug in the dongle for a wifi mouse, it too is recognised and I'm able to use the mouse to navigate around on the phone. This, as far as I understand, is actually USB Host in action.
The problem arises when I try to connect a DSLR and use a camera controller app like Helicon Remote or DSLR Dashboard. The app doesn't recognise that the camera is connected.
What's the difference between the wifi mouse and the camera?
Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
In fact, there is a problem that any USB storage device on the phone creates the following folder structure:
/ storage / usb / Android / data / com.htc.album / .thumbnails /
Then create multiple copies, can be found in the internal memory, same-path, including folders that contain thumbnails, but empty.
So because of these being used constantly sticks, so when the capture traces of the settings, then any writes to the phone to choose from, but it can not happen, but the capture button will be disabled, but only while again not I step into the menu.
The above mentioned directories erased because the phone reboot always create them again.
If the phone was not rebooted since I've used it and the flash drive has been physically removed it, then if I connect again, it appears no file until you restart the phone.
ya i have the same problem...im using 4.2.2 custom ....and when i use my otg cable n plug my usb it works the 1st time then if i disconnect the connect it back or use another usb it wont work unless i restart my phone....not sure why its not working....but it works for samsung note 3 i tested on my friends phone...

I could be wrong but if use CWM with an OTG cable it should work fine. In CWM you need to mount your "external sd".
After the backup is done; boot up, open a file explorer, have the OTG cable plugged in and go to /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1 and you should be able to see your backup there.
Remove the MicroSD card before proceeding to do anything to avoid any issues with the OTG cable or Flash Drive.
I believe TWRP has an OTG mount mode as well.

Yes i have tried in all of them to mount the usb drive but none have the option to save to the sda1 "usb" its weird i use twrp on my htc one and it does it on there i also used cwm, twrp on my droid x2 and they did it there i also have tried multiple usb sticks from 4 gig 16 gig 32 gig 64 gig and a 128 but no luck. I mean its not that big a deal i can copy it off to my computer but would be nice to be able to do it direct
I wanted to unroot and reinstall the factory rom. However, i wiped and formated everything in recovery first. I am now stuck with a paper weight. The tab is able to get into recovery and into the bootloader but that's it. I connect it to the computer and it does not detect it. I have tried with an otg cable, but nothing. The port works as it is charging, but it refuses to connect. As there is no way to get a rom into the tab or fastboot to recover it, i think i officially bricked my first android device. Normally, my devices have an external sd card slot and i can put the files on that but not this one.
Can you not use your otg the same as if it were an external SD? That's what I do all the time in twrp.

the device doesn't recognize anything. I think the data port on the micro usb might have gotten fried. there is voltage getting to the device because it is charging, currently at 100%, but if i connect to the pc in either bootloader or twrp it isn't recognized. I also tried to do the otg but twrp still gives me nothing - states 0mb otg. if the board would have been cheaper i would have just bought another just in case it was that but the cost of the board is as much as a used tablet.
Make sure you're mounting the USB storage in TWRP after plugging it in: Mount > Check USB-OTG box (I've had to uncheck and check the box several times to get this working before).
Also, I'm not 100% sure on supported file systems in TWRP via usb-otg, but you may also need to make sure the USB storage you're mounting is in FAT32 format and not NTFS.
Maybe Im not describing it right but no phone for over a month.. No matter what computer or version of windows 10 my phone is not recognized because I deleted all system and it comes up with error device descripor failed. I can get into fastboot and twrp recovery so thats good . but memory stick doesnt show on there no matter what format i use blah blah blah.. The unbrick tool doesnt recognize phone either probably because of the error and no usb debugging so Im willing to pay for someone to get this back up if nobody has any answer just leave whee to send and how much if no one knows of any way to get a rom on here:crying:..thanks
When you say memory stick doesn't show are you referring to OTG? If not try a USB C memory stick, or try a different one, maybe another USB C stick would work.

My USB A/C Sandisk is formatted as exFat and detected fine in codeworkx's latest TWRP. You deleting the System partition should not affect your device's ability to detect a USB. Just load OOS/your ROM onto your USB, press "Mount" on the TWRP main menu, press "Select Storage" then "USB Storage" then "OK".
Backup your /data partition to your USB using backup option in TWRP if you had important data there that isn't stored anywhere else.
You can now just try dirty flashing OOS/ROM in the install option, but I would probably just format the bloody thing first.
Good Luck
well tried exFat format on it doesnt recognize it in recovery twrp so is there a way to access it by going into fastboot cmd if there is such a thing in android world
