Max data speed? Got 51Mbps tethering - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Just got a blazing fast speed that makes me wonder what the max the phone is capable of.
My test was done on laptop connected to My One via Wifi tether. That was the speed from Verizon towers.

I fell like there is still some confusion. The test was performed on a laptop which was connected to the hotspot of my htc one which was on VZW network.
What is the fastest someone has seen from the towers?

Check this out. It is kind of old but I think the information is still valid.

I wish i got those speeds. I only get arround 8 mbps durring the day, and arround 28 late nights when the network is less congested. My best ever was 32.27 mbps, and that was at 3:30 in the morning.

Theoretical max speed on Verizon's 700 MHz band is 73 Mbps. The One doesn't support the new AWS band like the Galaxy S4 and G2 which can go up to 150 Mbps.
Of course, with Verizon's 4G network as crappy and overloaded as it is right now, you'd struggle to get 10.

I average about 30 in my area and I've had 56 at the highest.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk

I have seen high 40 to low 50 while driving through Charlotte nc when they first got lte. It's dropped drastically now. Where I live I get 8 to 15 and more than happy with that. Long as hulu and Netflix works all I need.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk

At my work I get 17-20 consistently. Home will bounce around between 8 and 18. Lowest I have seen without dropping to 3g was a 4 down the street, after having put a custom rom on my phone.

50ish is the most I've gotten so far.

Me still 20. Philippine's area

mine got 15-20 PH area.

I was at 34Mbps down and 27Mbps up in NC

I was getting 25-40 easily. Then the iPhone 5 was released. Now I only get ~ 4-5.

I've definitely seen a reduction of performance over the past year in my area. I could pull 30Mb+ even in a densely populated suburb (Philly metro), but now it struggles to hit 15Mbps in the same spot. Not that I'm complaining.
Max I've ever tested was 55Mbps in a popular mountain resort town during an off-peak season. Hopefully vzw builds out more capacity (per the link above) and keeps the speeds at a satisfactory level, but I don't expect to see 50Mbps regularly.

T-Mobile 3G Users Welcome to HSPA 7.2 Mbps

So anybody who gets T-Mobile 3G now is able to take advantage of The new upgraded HSPA 7.2Mbps 3.5G network. Phone that are able to take advantage of this are the HTC G1, HTC MyTouch, HTC Dash 3G, HTC Touch Pro 2, Samsung Behold 2,and I believe the Blackberry 9700.
Check your speed using you phone browser at www.mobilespeedtest.com
Here is my speed in Miami, Fl.
Must not be in every market. 3g In phoenix seems to top out around 250kbps...at least right now.
Should in all 3G markets. It might be rolling out to different cities throughout the day.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/01/t-mobile-officially-upgrades-to-hspa-7-2mbps/
Also try doing the 1Mb or larger test.
Yeah you're probably right. I'll just keep checking through the day. These speeds will nearly make the fee for 3g worth it.
Mine is 541kps, is that good? lol Have no idea about phone speeds.
The way ISPs advertise speeds is in bits. When we download is its bytes. So 7.2MBPS should be equilvalent to 7200 / 8 = 900 Kbytes a sec. So 900kbps should be max on our phones which is in between dsl and cable modem speeds. This is of course on the Tmobile Network. The fastest I got on my Tmobile TP2 was 800kbps full 3G bars.
I'm in the Tampa Bay area with full 3g bars. I did the 1MB test and got 717kb's per second. Not sure how to tell if I improved from before tmobile "upgraded" to hspa

Me too, just about the same, which is an upgrade at least 50% from before. I can't wait to try it out at work tomorrow with a full signal!!!
1774kbps in phoenix right now...pretty decent...
I have always used :

However the site posted here gives me much better results, so I think I prefer it. Bit odd though.
Ok guys. When you test it out it gives yous the small download test. You need to retest at 2Mb or higher to see the real speed. I used the 7Mb test to test my connection and was consistently getting 6500Kbps - 7000Kbps
I noticed quite a difference between Opera and Opera 10 Beta. What's the most accurate browser to use?
To get a "true" test I use Internet Explorer
Too bad all this speed won't mean **** because our CPU is slow. You will only take advantage of these speeds when you tether to your computer.
Not sure the test is reliable, got so many reading on my end. 700+kps, sometimes 25kps (huh????) sometime 650++, etc.
I've tried 3 times using dslreports simple mobile test. 1MB and got
~700kb
~800kb
~900kb

3g Speeds

I dont know if it is just a coincidence that the iphone came out today but my 3g speeds have went to a mind numbing crawl. With full bars and using speedtest app, I have not hit over 60 kBs all day. Stopped at sprint store and they said network was overloaded and they couldn't even run normal tests on my phone to diagnose. I think I am having issues anyway since I can't seem to get over 175 kBs in the last two weeks before today and I have a tower 1/4 mile away. I have dreaded the iphone release on sprint since announced.....hope this is not what I can come to expect from here on out. I've been with sprint for 14 years and really don't want to have to change.

That's about how 3g is for me yesterday in Torrance, CA. Very poor performance. When calling Sprint to ask about possible network issues, they kept me on hold for a supervisor for >30min before I hung up. Sprint's network is starting to be a major concern for me.
Sent on the run.
Where i live I am very lucky to break 50k and that been going on for about a yr.
I was going to make a topic about this earlier. Yes sprint did increase the data throughput. As soon as i woke up i checked my speeds as they could not sell a 3g phone that cant even stream music. Sure enough speeds almost at 1mbps normally in my area 50kbps to 300kbps.
I am not a lawyer by any means but since the actual sprint website says:
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices operate at average download speed ranges from 400-700 Kbps with peak rates up to 2 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 40-70 Kbps with peak rates up to 144 Kbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev 0) coverage areas.
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices that are EVDO Rev A will operate at average download speed ranges from 450-800 Kbps with peak rates up to 3.1 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 300-400 Kbps with peak rates up to 1.8 Mbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev A) coverage areas.
https://www.sprint.com/business/products/products/evdoCoverage2.jsp
Do I have any recourse based on what they say I should get vs what I actually get? Maybe a breach of contract or something or violation of TOS......thems my only legal terms I learnt and can use, lol.
In all seriousness, it just doesn't seem right that I am told I would get one thing and I am locked in for 2 years with it but yet I get another. Kind of a bait and switch thing..........wait.......another legal jargon phrase that just came to me, haha.
Increase In Speed
For the past month I been doing a speed test every morning as soon as i get into work. Till today I have not gone over 0.5 Mbs download (Honolulu, Hawaii)
But today I ran the same test i do every day and was able to hit 1.56 Mbs!!!!
Did a 4G test and got 0.1 Mbs ...super crap speeds as always.
Ran some more speed test on 3G and was surprised to get all of them around
1 Mbs. Sprint must have upped their throughput for the iphone 4 crap.
Wonder how long it will stay like this. If my speeds drop again after the initial iPhone crap I'm going to be very pissed.

Starting?! Man, sprint's network has sucked big bawls for roughly the last 2 years. maybe even longer but iv only been with em for 3 years. I got 1 year left. Hopefullly ill be earning more by next year and jump ship to verizon and their vastly superior LTE network...even VZW's 3g network matches Sprints 4g in most areas of Los Angeles.
3g gets me 1.30mbps down and .50mbps up. Haven't been able to test 4g speeds, as I can't seem to get a 4g connection eventhough I'm smack dead in a 4g area.
I noticed I dramatic increase at my work. I couldn't believe it. Previously it was less than 300 kbps.

I don't trust the speedtest app anymore. I did a test and it showed that I was getting some horrendously slow speed. Shortly after, I got a notification that doubletwist had an update. Almost 7mb program, downloaded and installed in, no joke, about 20 seconds. Did a speedtest on Speakeasy's website and got a very different result
Speeds have improved dramatically, but I'm not sure why the app doesn't reflect that.

Laptop gets 50mbps down, GN2 only 25?

So, not having run a speedtest on my laptop in a while, I actually thought my roommate was lying to me when he said we should be getting faster internet. Apparently he's not. Question being, with the speeds people are pulling on LTE, why can't I pull the same speeds from my wifi on my laptop as my GN2? My laptop is getting 50mbps down, while my Note tops out around 25mbps although yesterday I pulled a couple over 30mbps which has never happened before. Can anyone explain why I'm topping out like that when so much more is capable?
It can be a number of factors, buildings , wind , weather, static interference, anything could be a factor. It won't always be consistent.

Those factors have nothing to do with wifi or why my phone wont go over 25mbps when it can go way higher than that.
It could be the type of wifi antenna that we have on the phone. Max speed is achieved using MIMO streams which required multiple wifi antennas. I suspect that GN2 wifi have only one antenna, one stream up or down.

Just seems odd that it maxes out at that speed on wifi yet with LTe its capable of double that. Does anyone else get more than 25mbps on their wifi?
Mobile app might not use as much data. Not as much time to optimize the connection and really fly.
The pc site may be allowed more bandwidth to get a speedy connection with.
My two cents.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
LTE and wifi are not using the same antenna. MINO is the basic for wifi (N) to achieve higher speed. If you go out and by wireless adaptor. Usually there 2 type of Wifi (N) offer 150N and 300N. The 150N has only one attenna, and the 300N usually has at least 2 or more.
So... still curious, what are others getting on their home wifi?

So my link speed right now is actually 144 mbps, though during busy times it might go down to 130. It definitely seems like we are supposed to have better internet because I remember a couple months ago it was only 72. Anyways, what exactly am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I be getting even better than 50mbps on my laptop, at least? Also, my router came from Comcast, do I need to upgrade it to get the full effect or are my laptop and phone somehow limited? At home I'm getting better than 50 on my laptop so shouldn't I be getting 35 or 40 then, no problem, on my Note? It would be aggravating if Comcast was charging me for faster internet but not telling me I needed a new modem to take advantage of it. Actually, more like stupid than aggravating.

Yes you will always loose some throughput over wireless unless you have a beast of a router but plugged in with the hardwire should give you full speed. I would test by hard wiring to the router with your laptop and running a speed test then hard wire to the modem and do a speed test. If both router and modem are the same. Then its a wireless issue.

Well, I'm obviously not going to hardwire my laptop or Note. Would simply spending 50 bucks on a router from best buy, also avoiding a rental fee from comcast, improve my optimal speeds for my laptop and N2?

Well it's just the normal router that comcast gave us but I believe this was actually the second time we've updated so couldn't it be possible our comcast issued router is outdated? I've never been able to get better on any public wifi. I've just always had this creeping feeling that my account is just old enough to be on a weird plan where I am throttled overall no matter where I'm at opposed to other people. I've just never been able to duplicate the speeds on any phone that other people in my same exact area have. Like I'm handicapped for some reason., I mean, I basically get the same speeds on my N2 that I got on my Sensation, if not lower sometimes, and that just makes no damn sense whatsover. Don't we have a kikass radio over the Sensation?

I'm seeing similar to what you're seeing. I just had Verizon replace my router with a new Actiontec MI424WR which has gigabit & 802.11n. I have FiOS 50/25.
On a laptop running Windows 7 with an Intel 6300n wireless adapter one room away from the router I get 48-55 down. Sitting next to the laptop with the GN2 running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 with the LTE updated modem I get no more than 20 down. If I hold the phone 12 inches from the router in the other room, my Speedtest result hits as high as 33 down. If I take the laptop into the room and run the test next to the router, I consistently see 58 down.
Edit: Prior to getting my router replaced, I had the old Actiontec with 802.11g and if I recall, the laptop & GN2 both got around 12-15 down. Never better. Replacing the router made a huge difference but the laptop saw a high max down.

Wow. It seems like you live in an area with HSPA+ 42 coverage. Where I live, I only get HSPA+ 21 coverage, which is more like 2.5 MB/s. When downloading apps I usually get around that speed as well. The 300kb/s speed you're getting might be due to server congestion, which has little to do with your connection. Only a few times have I had to deal with slow downloads from Google Play.

IMO HSPA+ 21 is good enough for anything I've come across so far (YouTube, downloading apps, web browsing, streaming radio). Unless you're a data-speed freak you're probably not going to notice the difference between HSPA+ and LTE, unless you download large files often.

The big difference I see between HSPA+ and LTE is latency. There is no comparison. LTE kills it, no waiting for connection and data starting to download. Also very noticeable in high subscriber density environments (Disneyland for instance). LTE handles lots of devices more efficiently than HSPA.

Same area as another poster here.. clearwater/largo, on my T999 I get 5-15 down, 2 up, depending on the time of day... Since I got my S4, I get 29/10 all day every day on LTE, I laugh because my phone is faster than my bright house connection and cheaper... plus, as others have said, latency kills HSPA+, I cant even download stuff without a connection interrupt. I just wish there was some way to switch the S4 to LTE only and still do calling, but Tmobile AFAIK does not support voice over LTE...to bad you cant re-rout the wifi calling over it to fool the phone into thinking its calling over wifi.

T-Mobile Horrible Download and Upload speeds at home

I just switched over to Tmobile from AT&T and I'm having horrible download and upload speed. I got the phone last night and I have been consistently getting under 1 mbps download and upload. Sometimes speeds will go up to 5 or 6 (for a short time) but never more than that. Is this an issue with my new phone (LG G4) or congested network. I tried a factory reset and many reboots with the same result. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

Cleared data cache and did a speed test and it was in the 20 mbps range (this was while on the phone with a T-Mobile rep). Subsequent speed tests after I ended the call were back to my unusually slow speeds. Going to give them another class this weekend.
I used to get great speeds, but now I'm not getting LTE speeds at all.

Are you using the T-Mobile variant or the international variant?
here's my 4g speed test results, guess its your providers network and not the phone

Wow! I pull 20 down/10 up on average. 50 down with 40 up would be freaking awesome!

I also live in SF, coverage here sucks. Even in downtown.
i'm in Abu Dhabi tho, its all about provider/traffic
I'm just outside a Chicago a few miles. 2 miles away would be a Chicago Zip code less than 20 mins from the loop my speeds been crap for almost a year this is why I never upgraded added a data plan just the 1GB free didn't need alot but not going to pay for speeds where I'm only getting 1-3 at night and 0.50 -1 down during the day. The 4g speeds are better not much but they are. I only have 2-3 bars inside full signal outside but that does not matter. I just live in a ****ty spot but it's just not where I live I run into this alot on the go just around the area or a few miles away.
You know what's funny did a speed test around 1am got the same results I posted above just did one now and guess what. 30 down and 4.5 up I know other areas are faster but I can live with that and buy data if the other areas are about the same. I wonder if they finish the upgrade in the Chicago area or maybe mine ? I had to take another look to make sure I wasn't on Wifi but once I seen the upload speed I knew it wasn;t since my ISP is faster then that.
Just did a few test outside 4 or 5 bars in 5 different spots hit 19-47 down and 14-18 up looks to be decent finally.
I recently switched to T-Mobile as well. There is an area in my neighborhood where I can pull down over 70 Mbps!! If I move two or three blocks over towards my house though, it drops down to around 10-15 Mbps. I use WiFi in my house so I'm not that annoyed though.
Are the speeds horrible everywhere in your neighborhood? Are the speeds bad just INSIDE your house? What if you step outside? Remember T-mobile runs on higher frequency and maybe your house blocks the signals.
And now we are back to 1-3 DL tonight. Ha **** does not make sense.

I'm on B4 also, Check to see if your on BW:15. Which is just 15x15, which equals more bandwidth.

Yes BW 15. Just ****ty they might be doing upgrade's so I don't know. I just know it's always been crap and took a test again now to prove it 0.19 Down and 0.97 Up on LTE. So I don't know what that one test was the other day maybe they were doing some testing ? Because I hit 47 Down and 18 up on the one test. As I mentioned it don't matter much since I have Wifi at the house but I'd be pissed if I was paying any extra for Data and not getting something that's atleast usable. I'm sure my area will catch up in time.

Thanks!!
The last speed test with 15 mbps was while I was at work, so this is only going on at my home.
Edit: I live in the San Francisco/Daly City area
