Asphalt 8 Crashing - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I can play it through about 1-1/2 to 2 races then it stops responding. It's starting to make me mad.
ElementalX kernel 1.8 GHz CPU, 450 MHz GPU. Cool throttling. I believe I have Qualcomm bionic and dalvik patches flashed.
Any suggestions? Maybe just getting too hot and crashing? It only gets up to 50° though.

Try updating kernel(Version 2.6 now) + bionic and dalvik patches again

I've had Elementalx 2.6, flash the patches again and it still crashes.
I've heard its just an unstable game. Turning off WiFi seems to help a bit. Read something about it scanning for WiFi and it crashing randomly. Guess just Gameloft's problem.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

It's not just heat, sometimes having too high a clock can cause instability within other parts of the system, regardless of heat. I would try stock clocks (cpu and gpu) just to see if it gets better.

Went back to stock clocks and its not crashing. I'll increment the clocks until I find a more stable setting.
Thanks.

Undervolting, Overclocking and random freezes.

I'm running back into the problem of custom Roms freezing on me, no FC's, just the phone freezing and requiring a battery pull to re-boot. I odin EC05 plus, let it boot and sit for a few minutes, reboot, let it convert, flash cwm purple, wipe, then flash whatever rom, and eventualy they all freeze.
The only roms to never give me that problem is CM7, MIUI and true stock.
Tried everything, except for not using the stock cable, but even still, cm7 and miui have no problem.

I've had the same problem with SRF 1.2...and I linked the problem to certain SetCPU settings like on demand and userspace and to undervolting to much in the higher OC'd frequency ranges...even though I've experimented wih these settings and found a somewhat stable medium...I still get the random freezes once in a blue...I don't know what else it could be.
Sent from my rooted, suited, & booted Epic 4G kno dat!
Right now I'm on SRF with the 1.1.1 Kernel, using setCPU 200-1000, cfq, and no undervolting at all. I was on the 1.1.0 Kernel using voltage control when I had it freeze. I've uninstalled voltage control and galaxy tuner. Oddly enough setcpu dosent fc when I go into the voltages, which it did a few flashes back.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
What problems do you think Galaxy tuner was giving you...I'm using it right now?
Sent from my rooted, suited, & booted Epic 4G kno dat!
I wasn't sure, but I figured with using setcpu it would be best to uninstall it so there wasn't any sort of conflicts between the two.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm not sure I follow where the conflict btwn those 2 apps would be...once controls cpu speed, governing, and voltage...and the other controls screen brightness and sound attributes...not trynna be a smart ass I'm just trynna make the connection?

In galaxy tuner there is some options for overclocking, as well as IO scheduling.

If you aren't undervolting and are having this issue on multiple ROMs, it sounds like a conflict between some apps like you suspected. That or something is not right with your phone. Freezes happen to me when undervolting too much but you aren't doing that....edit...maybe your phone just doesn't like the 200 minimum that well. If I remember right, stock values are 1000 max and 400 min.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I'm wondering if maybe the 200mhz is whats doing it then, I always figured 200-1000 was stock, and the phone would only freeze when the screen was off. Right now I'm using setCPU with it set at 200-1000 with cfq IO scheduling. If I have more freezes I will try bumping up to 400-1000.

im currently undervolted with the aosp rom from dub with genocide's final kernel...200mhz is perfectly fine...if 200 is underclocked too low or other frequencies are too low...sod or freezes will happen with the frequency with the wrong voltage is reached..i have setcpu and voltage control together but mainly use the new setcpu...when idling, i see a 1 percent draw in 2 hours and 6 minutes...and use stability test whenever you underclock to see if it safe to use...just my 2 cents...

[Q] CPU clock problems

Hey guys, these few days I've been seeing a huge battery drain on the phone so I checked my CPU clocks and found that even though I limited it to 1.2 GHz the CPU constantly locks onto 1.4 GHz with all 4 cores running. BBS says mediaserver is using around 10% of my battery and I can't seem to get my CPU clocks working. I'm using TripNDroid CM10 and his own 3.1.10 kernel. The problem still persists in other roms and kernels such as ARHD and AOSP with Bricked and Faux.Any ideas on why?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Anybody can help? Also, using setcpu temporarily unlocks the cores but after around 5mins they get locked again.

Gpu overclock

Hello
I'm currently using a note2core asylum kernel which supports both cpu and gpu overclocking. My question is, how do I go about overclocking the gpu? Any help will be appreciated.

Don't need that overclock note 2 is an excellent phone more than a phone...my oppinion

I know. Its all for.research purposes anyway
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure if note2core supports stweak but that's the app you need to over clock. There are other but I prefer this one. It will give you a maximum slide to 1800mhz and also tons of other features such as adjusting charging amp, under volting including for the gpu as well. There's not much to know about over clocking as its pretty straight forward but you can change the xpu governor and the number of cores you want activated and how you want them to activate based on your usage. Under volting will help with both temperature and battery life although I find the changes almost insignificant, but you should try it out. If you want to undervolt start with around - 25mv.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
You are talking about cpu not gpu
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Okay it's not that different. Just over clock it and undervolt at the same time to - 25mv and then download an app called stabilitytest from play store. Run it for 10minutes and see if you get any error. If not then further lower the voltage to - 50mv. But usually - 25 is good. I noticed that anything higher clocks peed than 5xxmhz starts causing error and graphic glitches.

Tried it. Note2core not supported

Neighborhoodhacker's Kernel: 3.4 CM based Kernel w/ Overclock and more

This is a kernel I have made based off of the Gproject kernel for CM.
Features:
10/25
Added wheatley and smartmax governors. As many TCP congestion options as one could ask for. A couple other small things.
10/24-4
Fix CM compatibility break. Bye bye LSD effect
10/24-3
The kernel package is now using an implementation of koush's anykernel.
I suggest for those who are having any issue to flash back to their ROM image (don't delete data). Then reflash using this. It uses the ramdisk already present on the device so it might break less things
10/24-2
Reset the GPU min freq to stock so that we don't lose battery
10/24
GPU OC extended for to 585Mhz. Woot woot.
10/23
1.89Ghz if you dare MWAHAHAHA
10/22
162Mhz was a little bit hopeful so I got rid of the frequency because without that we seem to lose the HW resets. Overclock still seems to work fine Antutu 20200.
10/21
Overhauled the CPU frequency range. We now have stable OC to 1.81 and UC to 162Mhz. Depending on the application you can toy with intellithermal settings to get the best performance from that situation.
Edit: not so stable at 1.81 I lied go for 1.72 for now (always forced to eat my words)
10/17
Quite a few changes. We have an updated wifi driver as well as an updated graphics driver. I added gamma control. Simple GPU governor is now set to default for battery savings and by that one can imply obviously it is working now. FIOPS scheduler added. A few minor things.
9/30-2
removed knock knock by farbuggy
9/30
Okay so I am really really really hoping this one rids SOD's good. Also I added a knock on interface. Until it gets implemented into the systemui of a rom though it will only work while screen is off. (It's a work in progress and the knock on ability is disablable though the file /sys/kernel/knock_knock/knock_knock_enabled[1 = on, 0 = off]) This I believe is the first custom kernel to have any kind of knock on type interface. So far it's just been made up for by showp-1985's s2w.
9/29
Tweaked undervolt so hopefully we can say goodbye to SOD's. I have had success with lower settings but this should cover a broader base. If anyone get's an SOD with these settings, let me know and I will update the kernel ASAP.
9/28
Added undervolt by default and faux123 mako's implementation of sweep2wake. It doesn't show in tricksters mod but you can turn it on and off in sysfs through the file /sys/kernel/s2w_parameters/s2w_switch. (1 = on, 0 = off)
9/27
Ummm let's see... Today we got: GPU Overclock to 487Mhz, intelli-thermal from faux123, and a couple little things here and there .
Edit: I added a little more there is now an adjustable voltage table and the phone defaults with intelliplug and intellithermal
9/26
Intellidemand doesn't control hotplugging anymore. That functionality is moved to intelliplug. I think we have hotplugging and performance now let me know all! (mpdecision still enabled by default, go to trickster and see the new additions )
9/25
Faux sound control.
Intellidemand. (mpdecision should be turned off to utilize this feature properly)
Extended CPU frequency range (192Mhz - 1728Mhz)

Maybe it has something to do with MPDecision or temp throttling? I know in the past I've seen other kernels have some issue at first with fully disabling it, causing it to continue to interfere with some settings.

I'm not an expert on governors but with intellidemand (on our other roms) my optimal freq and sync freq were usually like 702mhz. Stock this kernel puts it at 192mhz. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure what these fields even mean. I'd like to know if anyone has any info.
I'm running the kernel anyway and so far so good. Thank you NeighborhoodHacker for this great kernel.
edit: I just tested Asphalt 8 and so far this kernel holds frame rates really well!! I don't if I was doing something wrong before, but for the longest time this game was unplayable for me.

[Q] Games Crashing

Running clean ROM 2.6 and elementalx 2.6 kernel @ 1.8 GHz OC. Optimized dalvik and biotic patches, and performanceX.
A lot of games just randomly crash every once in a while, but it's usually those more graphically intense. I've tried playing Asphalt 8, Gears and Guts, Modern Combat 4. Have I optimizes my device too much?

Are you using ART? Dead trigger 2, and asphalt 8 used to crash on me, usually when loading levels (no app not responding message it would just throw me back to the home screen) when I was on 4.4 krt16s with ART enabled. Right now I'm on 4.4 krtl6s with the elementalX kernel(2.2) @1.7 CPU and 450 GPU, I'm also using the optimized dalvik and bionic patches, I use the xposed framework, running dalvik, and like 20 different modules, and I haven't had any stability problems, and my game's run silky smooth.
No, I'm running dalvik. I have xposed framework also. Heard adaway gave some apps problems, but I don't have it enabled. Not sure if it's clean ROM or what..

Have you tried clocking down to stock (CPU and GPU (if applicable)) and running it for a bit and see if it stabilizes?
I'll try clocking down see what happens.
Edit: Clocking GPU down to stock improved it a little, at least I got into game, but it crashed shortly after. Maybe I'll try cpu.
I also have it thermal throtle cool and vsync (I believe it is) on. I'll put everything stock and see what happens.

Idk if you got it working yet but I was actually browsing around the clean ROM page, and they have optimized Qualcomm dalvik libraries, and the thread that I got my optimized dalvik and bionic libraries (the motox one's I believe), said that it may cause issues with some ROMs, so my guess is that there not playing nice. Also oc'd my gpu to 485 and my CPU to 1.8, didn't get any instability.
Also, tried out gears and guts, cus you put it in between mc4 and asphalt 8, It's good stuff. :victory:
Good luck
I'll flash the revert zips for the dalvik and bionic library and see if it helps.

Wiped the device clean, but what did you flash afterward. I suspect it's a kernel problem.
I clean flashed cleanrom and elementalx kernel. I found some revert zips for the Qualcomm optimized dalvik and bionic, flashed, and games seem to be working now.
Guess cleanrom doesn't like the optimized files. Shame because it made a bit of a performance difference in lag (or at least the benchmark improved.) Maybe I'll try flashing it again and see if it works..

Rewiped, back to stock ROM and kernel. No optimized dalvik or bionic. Games are running good now.
Would I be safe just to flash the optimized dalvik and bionic, and ElementalX on stock ROM? No problems would occur? Because I like the speediness they gave.

I would bet it's safe, but I would do one at a time and test it for a few days then do the next one, etc...same with any settings with the kernel, make one adjustment in small increments at a time, then test for a few days, etc.
At least you know it's not hardware!
