hi. I'm trying to change the default dictionary in kindle fire, as it has no options for you to add or change any dictionary, im trying modificate system file
/ system / etc / labdictionary
substituting B003ODIZL6.prc
when I finish it works perfectly but if i reboot my kindle return with old dictionary o appers anything
someone could make the change dictionary?
i follows this instructions replace dictionary kindle fire, but the last part say:
"Tap the Clipboard icon and choose "Paste". Long tap the new "B003ODIZL6.prc" file and choose "More" – "Properties" – "Permissions: Change". Set the permissions like this and click "OK" to confirm."
but i cant see the image, there is no photo explaining
thanks for help, and im sorry for my bad english :good:
I suggest looking at the properties of the old file, the one that gets renamed to *.bak, and make the new file match those permissions. The instructions at that part are not clear, but what I posted should work.
I already tried and does not work
that part es confused, and i dont know its really work, i mean it work but not permanently
When you are finished, you should change the paths back to their original settings. He does not say this, but that area should not be left R/W. I think it should be mounted read only.
yes, i tried too, leave everything like original, and its the same, root explorer and properties
if i change for the original oxford dictionary and reboot, appears agains in english
Is the file changed in the directory when you reboot?
when put spanish dictionary, works. but and reboot and the dictionary doesnt work, the archive is there but when used dont see anything
when put original archive and reboot appears again english dictionary
Well, the guide is missing something. Native Kindle Fire users are all complaining that it cannot change dictionaries. It seems to me a rooted device should handle it. Need more file info.

Hey Everyone. Thought I'd post a lil tutorial on how to change the sound file that plays when you select things (if you have the option enabled, of course) or any of the other sounds like the keyboard presses.
Disclaimer: If you mess your phone up, which I can't possibly imagine since this isn't affecting important system files, dont blame me!!! ALWAYS perform a Nandroid backup when modifying anything that requires root access.
YOU MUST HAVE ROOT TO DO THIS !!!
You will need the android sdk to send the files over.
Step 1 :
First step is to get the sound clip you want to use. I'm using a sound from the starcraft 2 website (the sounds that play when you hover over options). There are multiple ways to capture sounds from websites. I stumbled upon a nice lil browser toolbar called "Free Recorder" from here. If you have a Creative sound card they include an option called "What you hear" in the recording section.
Step 2:
Once you have your sound file you must convert it to ".ogg" format and save it as Effect_Tick. There are a number of ways to do this. For those of you using winamp, just download the "Winamp Essentials Pack" plugin and you'll have the option to convert to ".ogg". Another option is to download "Audacity", a free sound editing app, and then download the "oggdropXPd" plugin. If you have Nero then open the file you want to use in "WaveEditor" and save it as ".ogg".
Step 3:
Once you have your file saved as a .ogg it is time to send it over to your phone. Connect your phone to your computer. Do Not mount. Open a command prompt in the "tools" directory of the sdk. Type the following, pressing enter after each line:
adb remount
adb shell cp -r system/media/audio/ui sdcard/ (This will create a backup of all the ui sound files to a directory on your sd card called "ui")
adb shell rm -r system/media/audio/ui/Effect_Tick.ogg (This will delete Effect_Tick.ogg from your phone.)
adb push c:\Effect_Tick.ogg system/media/audio/ui (This will copy your file to your phone. Substitute whats in green to w/e directory you have your file in.)
After entering these commands you will have your new sound file rdy to go!!!
Just substitute "Effect_Tick" for w/e the name is of the file you are replacing. If you replace the file while the "Audible Selection" or "Sound Feedback" (for virtual keyboard) option is enabled, then you must uncheck that option and recheck it.
Attached I have the Effect_Tick I'm using and the BB Storm "click" from a guy named ebl4287 over at modmyi.com. Big THANKS to him!!!
ENJOY ! ! !
Thanks! I'm using your effect_tick.ogg as I type this.
Thought it was time to finally give back to this awesome community. Glad your enjoying it
Sweet i've been wanting to do this forever!
finally!!!!!!!
If you guys use a different sound, please share and provide a link.
When I get home I'm gonna get the sound clip thats used in MGS menu selection screen.

Here is my two cents... I replaced all the files in my system/media/audio/ui folder.
Remove the .zip extension and extract with your choice of decompression tool.
Follow the steps above and adb push each file to the UI folder from wherever you extracted it and enjoy...
Very cool. Im using the one you posted. Thanks.
Great find, thanks! yet another reason to have root
Glad ur all enjoying this. Hopefully more people will share the custom sounds they are using and turn this thread into something really special

Yeh the ones I posted were sound bites from Star Trek Next Generation. Hope you all enjoy it.
TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT CLIPPED AND I'LL DO IT GUYS...
Okay here is a clip from MGS. Its the menu screen selection sound.
I spent all night trying to get this sound clip. Finally I had to dissect a psp cft theme which uses "vag" sound clips... dont ask. Then went from vag to wav to ogg.
Ill be adding more for the keypresses later.

Zip the file on your PC, then upload it. The limit to upload here is 8MB, as long as the file is within that limit, your set...

Yep I'll help as well. Just post a request and I'm sure those who have the know how will get it uploaded.
Okay so how do we change the sounds for the HTC_IME keyboard? I've changed the KeypressStandard.ogg and KeypressDelete.ogg and unchecked and rechecked but it wouldnt change the sound. I then disabled Touch Input and enabled Android keyboard which than changed the sounds but I dont like the Android keyboard.
Alright, I found a perfect sound for myself and am posting it for y'all. Yeah, I'm from Texas.

Good question, wondering this myself. Athough I do like the old-school typewriter sounds
anyone know how to change the wallpaper set yet? i couldn't find the folder that contains it.

Well, the sounds are in the apk file. If u open the apk with a zip program (I use 7zip) it'll be HTC_IME.apk\res\raw\. So if you change them in there then resign the apk and push it to the phone, it should work.
when I flash a new ROM the default language is always set to french. I bought the phone on ebay from a french user. Thats not a big problem but I just wonder where this information (this is a french phone) is stored and if it can be changed?
Any ideas?
Also I'd like to know why the number which is shown under settings / phone info / phone identity is wrong and if this can be changed?
Do a factory reset and it'll go through the setup.
Sent from RCMixS
sorry, but this doesn't answer my questions?!
Settings> language& keyboard > Select language
In french it will something like:
Parametres > Langua & Klavier (with the A keyboard icon) and first option.
And for the language change (set as default) I have no idea. Everytime I flash a new ROM, the language setting is coming up for me.
Maybe because it's your phone branded, IDK.
there seems to be some misunderstanding here
I have NO problem with changing the language during the setup or after rom flash!
I just want to now if I can change the phones DEFAULT language setting. It's french at the moment. So after every rom flash the setup starts with french language. I'd like to change this to german. It must be stored somewhere in the phone that it was sold on french market in the first place... Some kind of carrier ID or something. That's what I'd like to change...
This was a ridiculously hard answer to find...
Rather infuriating no one can understand your questions LOL... I was googling trying to figure out the EXACT same thing and only came across more people talking about how to change the language POST FLASH...
HERE is what I finally figured out all on my own....
If you are familiar with ROM flashing and modding and whatnot this setting is actually in your "build.prop" file which can be edited with any text editor but I highly recommend "notepad++"
I am assuming however that you don't know where the build.prop file is so I will try to explain:
Unpack your ROM... in my case I have a rockchip device so I have a system.img file. Depending on your device there are different tools to unpack and repack this file. Unpack it.
Open up the folder you unpacked it into and lo-and-behold you will see the contents of the android system directory. In the root of this (the folder you just went into) should be a "build.prop" file.
Right-click it and select "edit with notepad++" (because you went and got that program earlier because I suggested it and it rocks lol)
Scroll down until you find these lines:
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
(depending on where the rom is from the values after the "=" sign may be different... these are what we want to change)
There ya' go... Edit the "en" & "US" to whatever language and country you want. I don't know all the different abbreviations though so perhaps someone else can fill us in or perhaps Google will yields some results.
I sell Chinese brand tablets and the update roms I often get for myself and my customers often come stock loaded with Chinese. I like to make things as painless as possible for people so that is why I wanted to change the default language from chinese to English rather than make them try to figure out what buttons to push.
I am also working out how to add applications into the Rom be default! and how to change the default launcher. Having some of this stuff setup beforehand would be VERY nice indeed...
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Roman
Not on Jiayu G6
Weird...on my Jiayu G6 (image G6-20141016-160818-4.4.zip) after factory reset I don't have the file "build.prop" but there is a "default.prop" with the following lines:
Code:
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
...yet the phone boots into chinese. Damn.

I already tried modifying the permissions of the file located at "data/data/com.android.settings/files" to :
. Owner : Read, - , -
. User : Read, - , -
. Others: -,-,-
The problem is that, i can't event SET a new wallpaper to it.
I tried to give me full permissions so that i can set a new one, and them, change the permissions to avoid the stock change, but i can't manage to make it work.
Any idea of what i am doing wrong ?
Try going into kindle fire utility and unlocking the wallpapers and then well what ever you want
I've tried this, and i realized that only a few images actually "work" as wallpaper, the other ones just get ignored and the wallpaper picker doesn't allows me to select them as a wallpaper.
I click on them, and the picker prompts me again to choose an image, with no error message.
Do i have to make them "fit" the screen so i can select them or any resolution will work ?
make the file permissions writable and change the wallpaper. then go back to data\data\com.android.settings\files\wallpaper and remove the write permissions. your wallpaper will not change at that point.
Fun with wallpapers
So any idea what app or apk or daemon is changing this wallpaper all the time / is there something we can modify so it will work as expected? I think I'm going to have a hard time trying to convey to people that they need to change file permissions just to KEEP a wallpaper.
Someone mentioned in another thread that the framework.apk handled this, just not sure on the technical aspects of that.
Revoke write perimission after setting wallpaper!
You should revoke the "write" permission of the system to prevent it replacing the wallpaper again. Open ES File Explorer (or any other file manager like root explorer), navigate to this path:/data/data/com.android.settings/files/. Then revoke the write permission of "Owner" and "Group". You can view this article for detailed tutorial:
w w w.epubor.com/how-to-change-kindle-fire-wallpaper.html(please delete the space between letter "w" and pasete the link in your browser)
Remember, dont't lock the screen before yo urevoke the write permission!
I think every body should have the source to information so they can better understand what they are messing with... why waste time waiting and begging for food when you can learn to cook for yourself?! ... so here is my tutorial on breaking down CyanogenMod9 on the Acer A100( although most of this should be a general guideline to most roms) ***** I am not responsible for you breaking your stuff nor responsible what you do with this information... you have been warned! u can soft brick your tab in a heartbeat***
okay so there are countless tutorials on how to build a ROM from source... just google it.. but some ppl obviously don't have the need to spend the hours compiling because there is already a build for the ROM that they like... but on the other hand they want to add some mods and tweaks to the zip before flashing to tweak the tab to how they want it... after all it is your device and your the one that uses it most so why wouldn't you want personalized tweaks... and theres only one way to learn.. trial and error! haha but hopefully this guide will help you grasp some basic to advanced Android tweaks and mods ... again this tutorial is written for CM9 for the acer a100 but the "general" idea is about the same on the basic stuff... this tutorial is written by me from many sources too many to name but thanks for all the tutorials or I wouldn't know a lot of what I know about Android... This guide is for Ubuntu 12.04... but I would assume 10.04+ it would be compatible but don't quote me on that as I don't know so its your fault if you f* something up!!!!
First off you have your cm9.zip... its simply a zipped archive.. dur... sometimes a signed zip.. now you can simply open nautilus file explorer and go to your .zip and extract it with archive manager.. I suggest when the dialog comes up as where to extract the files that you click make a new folder and name it extractedCM9 and let it extract... okay not so hard quite yet 'eh?.. hang in there it gets a lot better ... you should now have a folder named extractedCM9 with some files in it... copy the extractedCM9 folder and paste it into the same directory that your copying from... rename the folder tweaked then cut and past that folder into extractedCM9... next open the extracted CM9... you should see the following: META-INF(a directory), system(a directory), and boot.img( this holds your initrd which is your "ramdisk", your zImage which is your kernal, and on extracting you'll also find a boot.cfg... we will get to extracting the boot image latter.. stick with the easier things to get us going!... now create another directory called stock .. you should now have the following... META-INF/(a directory), system/(a directory), stock/(a directory), tweaked(a directory), and boot.img.. okay a little more copying and pasting.. all this will be used later so if following this tutorial all the way throu you should do as instructed lol... CUT META-INF/, system/, and boot.img and paste it into stock.. you should be left with the two directories tweaked/ and stock/ both having extracted CM9 in them go into your tweaked/ directory and lets begin.... so some of the things you can tweak just from a simple extraction of the zip are as follows...
You can edit your /system directory and make tweaks as needed before ever installing the rom! .. just some of the things held in /system is the boot animation and it can be found at /system/media/bootanimation.zip its also a simple zip composed of images to be ran concurrent to appear as a single animation.. the resolution for the a100 boot animation is 1024x600 and a simple google search for either a100 custom boot animations or basically any low-def 1024x600 boot animation should work simply delete the existing bootanimation and copy the new one in its place.. remember NO MATTER WHAT THE DOWNLOAD FILE NAME is you MUST rename it to be bootanimation.zip or it wont work( I say should because I obviously have not tried every boot animation and I know there is a limit to the size for the acer animation so sticking with <6mb bootanimations should be just fine).. now if you decide to go further and extract the cm9 boot animation you will find part0( a directory), part1( a directory) and desc.txt.. the part0 and part1 directories hold the images that are to be ran and desc.txt simply states the resolution and then below that it list the directories that are included in the zip... part01 will be ran before part02.. for the novice I recommend just sticking to finding cool bootanimations already zipped for our resolution that some has posted for download so you can simply copy and past!...
also in system/media/ you will find a directory named audio.. dive into that and you find where the default sounds(aka ringtones, notifacations) that are stored for your fresh rom go back up a directory to system/media/ again and you'll see the video.. those are just some mp4's stored for the ROM.... that about it for editing in media.. lets recap.. you can basically edit/ change your boot animation and the default ringtones and notification sounds in /system/media... lets move back up to /system..
from /system you see another directory user/ ... lets go in there for a second.. what do we find.. MORE directories of course lol.. what else would we find... keychars( a directory) and keylayout( a directory) contain your configuration files for the input keys.. you can find things for the way game controllers and keyboards input are handled and what codes on keypresses.. now for our device if you proceed into keylayout/ (system/usr/keylayout/) you will see a file called gpio-keys.kl right clicking on that file and selecting open with and choosing gedit will bring up the file and you will see someything like
key 136 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED
key 139 MENU WAKE
key 102 HOME
... and so on.....
these are what your hardware buttons do.. basically to explain whats going on is the key ### is the hardwired part... the SEARCH or MENU or what ever action you see is simply that.. an action to be called... and the WAKE_DROPPED and WAKE... well to be honest I'm not for sure what those do lol I assume having WAKE associated with a key would wake the device when pressed.. not for sure on that one thou haven't tried it.. but a quick google search and you can find list of commands that you can choose from.. one of them is being the command to call the camera.. so in essence you could bind any of your hardware keys to the camera function and it would open the camera... my little tweak to this file is to completely disable the HARDWARE HOME KEY... the only key on the front of our devices.. now I have seen some tutorials no disabling it by changing the...
key 102 HOME
... to ...
key 102 UKNOWN
... my problem with that is it does seem to disable the key.. sorta.. and what I mean by that is when you are in certain apps it will trigger the select/ hover action like if you were using a keyboard... so to completely disable it where it will call NO action simply DELETE that line! change ..
key 102 HOME
... to ...
... lol just delete that line out of the file and save it... voila! no more hitting it on mistake while playing a game or browser or w.e it is your doing *** note that this will not disable the light on the button.. it will still flash for notifications and the like...
alright once you have that saved you can exit out of gedit and go back to nautilus showing your extracted cm9 files go up your directory tree until your back in tweaked/ looking at META-INF/, system/, boot.img ... highlight all three of those... right click again and hit compress.. name the file myCM9tweak.zip or w/e you want to call it... make sure .zip is selected in the drop down menu of type of format to compress and compress... once its done you have an unsigned tweaked CM9.zip that if you didn't make any mistakes will boot.. and even if you made mistakes it could possibly boot and you will find your errors as you use it.. now if you just stuck with the simple tweaks I should you above you should be pretty safe and not worry to much about the device not booting.. if it doesn't boot a stock .zip then go back to your tweaked/ folder and try and find out what you did wrong and compress again about try it out! ... okay my fingures are tired of typing so I'm done with the tutorial for tonight.. well I might add more tonight but don't hold me to it... but this tutorial is in NO WAY finished... we are just beginning.. I haven't even showed you how to unpack-edit- and repack your boot.img to swap out kernals and from there extracting your initrd( aka "ramdisk") so you cant edit things at the very core of the ROM... don't be mad if you made the stock/ and tweaked/ directories and are wondering what the hell i had you make two directories of the same crap... just remember this tutorial is at its very begin if you plan on unpacking boot.img's with me then you need to just follow along... for what I have showed you tonight you can do this from windows of course and using notepad instead of gedit... for the advanced stuff sorry your going to need Ubuntu! ...
MORE TO COME...
--more simple system tweaks and mods--
--unpacking-modifying- and repacking boot.img's--
--extracting initrd's( aka "ramdisk") to make edits to the core of your rom and of course repacking them--
I hope someone finds some kind of useful information out of this.. tonight was pretty basic stuff but theres a lot more coming... including but not limited to a whole bunch of command prompt!
*~ENJOY~*
(please excuse any typo's.. I don't think theres any where it count's ..)
This is the guide I wish I had read the day I rooted, you rock man!
sent from your future.
How to stop the annoying click sound or change it on Amazon Fire Tv
Do you hate or love the click sound when moving around on the Fire Tv? Well if like me you can't stand that annoying sound, I will tell you how to remove that "click" or replace for a sound of your own? This has been tested on my AFTV2 but Im 99.9 % sure it will work on Gen 1 & the Fire Sticks too (I will try on my Fire Stick later) as long as you have root access.
PLEASE READ
This process needs root access & make sure you only change the file I'm talking about, I will not be responsible if you brick your device by being silly & deleting dependable files on your Fire Tv, I advice you don't delete it just incase then If you need to go back you can change or rename with adb. If you want to make a backup with twrp recovery you can back as far as I can see this process Is safe to do & I have tested & have not had any problems (so far).
Steps-
1. Using a file manager goto system/media/audio/ui
2. Select Mount R/W if you haven't already so you have authority to write to the device
3. Select, tick or change the Effect_Tick.ogg file & press rename
4. Rename as Effect_Tick.ogg.bac
5. Exit the file manager & now reboot the device using the select & the play/pause buttons held down together for about 5 or 6 seconds
6. Now a message will flash Up saying something like Effect_Tick.ogg not working or something similar? (Don't panic)
7. Once rebooted the annoying click has gone!
Replacing for a blank file
I have included a download of blank audio which i named Effect_Tick.ogg (just needs to be unziped) if you just replace this with the old sound or .bac the original & push this ogg file in the location system/media/audio/ui & then reboot you will have a non clicking scroll & also wont get any error Effect_Tick.ogg not working messages.
Bringing the click back
If you want to bring the click back, go back into system/media/audio/ui & delete the .bac part at the end of the name so it's Effect_Tick.ogg once again, reboot & it's back.
Changing the click for a different/custom sound
Or after you have done step 4 you could copy a audio file In the ogg format & name it Effect_Tick.ogg & then reboot
