Google Now shortcut - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I haven't seen this posted but if it's a duplicate just ignore it. I know you can add a widget to the homescreen but if you want to clean up your home screen or just don't like widgets I found this easy way to make a swipe shortcut of launching google now. This is only for Nova Launcher users but maybe others like Apex etc. have a similar method:

[Q] shortcuts on the home screens?

Been playing with my new phone for less that 24 hours. Something has been bothering me and I don't know if I am going crazy or not. Where did the shortcuts go? on gingerbread when you long pressed on the home screen you had the option to do widgets, and also application shortcuts... I don't know where those are now since widgets are now in the app drawer. Did they kill the shortcut in ICS?
they did, but somehow you can still do it since people have said they have desktop visualizer and folder organizer working.
If anyone knows how to do it please share.
Hold down on app icons in the main app directory. Widgets are also in this directory by using the widget tab at the top of the directory or swiping right beyond the apps.

That will just add a shortcut to the app on the main screen. I am looking for info on how to activate the shortcuts that some apps have. IE with touchdown email you can have a shortcut to your inbox... I can't find that functionality in ICS.
EDIT: Nevermind, misunderstood. No delete function here?
Most of the shortcuts seem to now be classified under Widgets. If a third party app is missing a shortcut it should have then that app will probably need to be updated for ICS.

I am on JB 4.2.1 and I have just downloaded "Touchdown" software to understand your problem because I never used this software
Anyway, maybe what you want to do can be accomplished by a Widget called "Touchdown for Smartphone" (1x1). I have selected it, placed it on the main screen then it asked me to "Select the shortcut you want to add".
I hope this solves your issue

Long press only gives wallpaper option

I have an issue adding widgets to home screens by long pressing. When I long-press a screen, the only options I get are wallpaper options. No options for widgets. Any help fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
That is by design. Widgets are in the App Drawer.

Holy nooob!
Just go into your app drawer and select the widgets tab. Look at the pic.

I know how to do that. Isn't it possible to access the widgets directly from the homescreen by long-pressing?
As already answered, no you can't
When I saw the thread title I thought it was a joke.
This a change in ICS from previous versions of Android. However if you must have this feature I know the Nova launcher adds it in.
Sorry to post such silly question. Thanks for the information.
Nothing is silly, how else do people learn. Glad you got sorted
As mentioned before, use Nova Launcher. Supports everything stock launcher does and much more including long press add Widgets.

[Q] Direct Dial shortcut not supported?

Does anyone else have the problem that direct dial shortcuts are not working (created by custom launcher like LauncherPro or ADWlauncherEX). I can create the shortcut but it doesn't initiate anything when I press it. Can anyone confirm if they are having the same issue? If so, does anyone know how to fix this on the stock ROM?
I know I can place a direct dial widget on the home screen but that's not what I'm looking for.
Thanks!
88+ views and nobody can give any feedback?

Running AOKP and Nova launcher, working fine.
not to be master of the obvious if you already tried/know this, but they're widgets now... long press home screen, click Add to Desktop, then swipe over to widgets and viola....

Thanks for the feedback but as mentioned in my original post I am aware of the widgets option. I was specifically wondering about direct dial shortcuts created with custom launchers. It's confirmed NOT working with LauncherPro Plus or ADWex but Nova Launcher is working fine (thanks for the tip Aerowinder). Must be a problem with these specific launchers. If anybody can add to the list of which Launchers have this feature working please share. I wonder if it's a problem specific to the S3 or android 4.0.4 in general....

I am having the same problem with LauncherPro Plus. As a workaround, i'm using the contacts widget, which is one extra click, but better than nothing until this works.
Hi !
I had the same problem before, maybe you'll find some help on this topic.

google now as home launcher??

hi, i was just wondering if its possible to make google now my home screen. i realized i don't need a launcher because i have a ton of apps and instead of swiping through my drawer i often find myself just typing in the app in the search bar. With the new swype keyboard in 4.2 its much quicker to launch an app that way, i also put my dock apps in my lmt launcher and don't use widgets except for the search bar of course. so has anyone figured out how to make google now their HS? i would love for it to just open when i press home and open right after unlocking the lockscreen.
No launcher = no Android
Closest you could manage would be a single launcher page with a clock widget that looks like Google now plus some minor themeing.
Lets tweak your idea and make it a widget for Now, that would be pretty sweet.

there is a launcher, i believe it is called sflauncher that is modeled after google now you could try.

yeah ive tried it but im looking to just make google now the home launcher not just something that looks like it. does anyone know if i can remap the home button to just open google now?
With a custom launcher i think you can. For example i'm using nova launcher, and under the gesture and behavior menu you can choose the home button behavior with several action and all you app. The only thing i'm not sure about is if you can set only an app or even an app's activity (like is gnow)...

Strange bug in app drawer

When certain things happen like when i close an app while its loading or smt like that my app drawer shrinks and icons not fitting the whole page and i can see the next and previous pages app icons a bit. I have to force stop the launcher in order to fix it but is there any other solutions ?
try to clear the cache or restart the phone, if that doesn't work you can still use another launcher like Nova Launcher or Google Now Launcher..

Since they dont feature the double tap to sleep i am not interested in them. But thanks for the advice
Nova launcher actually has a "double tap to sleep" feature under gestures-> double tap you can set "lock screen" which will do the same as LGs launcher
