First off this would not be possible without the work of many devs in many places. Some of the builds that have really helped get this done:
The base build I started with:
[Android] Eclair 2.1 by mssmison
Builds/Devs that helped me get this far:
polymod 2.1 alpha 4 by polyrhythmic that is itself is based on openeclair 1.1.5
dzo, wesgarner, ctso, many more who have contributed to openeclair
Please try both of these and My build and post your results, I want to know what works and what doesn't. It also will help to know what works better on whose build.
Here it is folks Android running from NAND on your kaiser/tilt!
What works:
WIFI - you no longer need a calibration file from Windows Mobile.
GPS
Phone
Sleep
Battery - See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5695425&postcount=126
What doesn't:
Bluetooth? I have random results still
Camera
Youtube
Jbed - read thread for working install and instructions
I am in no way liable for whatever may happen to you or your phone!
This will erase/replace windows mobile.
How to get it:
Step one:
If you do not have the latest nbh get dzo's from here:
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D
or vilord's
http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/
and flash it to your phone.
Step two:
Perform a hard reset on the phone, then remove the battery.
Step three:
Download my package and place the androidinstall.tar in the andboot folder on the root of your sd card.
Old link for reference only -Version 1.0
Old link for reference only -Version 1.1 Update Patch
Pre-Patched Version 1.1
Place your sd card in your phone put the battery back in and power it on.
Watch the screen and once it tells you to press and hold the D-Pad center button (do it fast!).
Choose the install option and answer "Yes" when it asks to clear your data.
Step four:
Choose quit and wait for the big green android!
If you get a second google account setup screen after entering your info once just hit the home button or reboot.
*notes*
Starting wifi during the initial setup works but the setup app FC's and goes back to the start wifi screen. The wifi actually does start but you cannot choose a network until you complete setup.
You must have a sd card to boot (not with vilord's kernel)
LCD density is set to 160 as I believe with a 320x480 nbh yields the best usability and market selection.
I the screen flips the wrong way instead of going back to portrait mode open "spare parts" and uncheck "launcher rotation"
(you can also go to Settings "Sound and Display" and uncheck Orientation")
(Works on polaris and vogue as well)

Typo in your link, looks like it's missing the "h" at the beginning (thanks to your sig for the clue haha). I'm downloading it now, going to try it out and report back with the results.

Thanks got it fixed, let me know how it goes.
Just got it setup, some things I've noticed so far:
Setup Wizard got stuck in an infinite loop right after setting up my Google Account. It signed me in, started syncing just fine, but the next screen asked me to setup a Google Account again. Signing in led me to another Google Account setup page. A reboot fixes this though.
Might want to note that your build.prop has the lcd.density set to 160, most NAND builds I've ran have had it set to 120 or 113 or had a choice.
So far it's been a lot faster than other Eclair builds I've tried! Awesome work!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll add some more notes to the 1st post.
I don't normally have a sim in until after I get it setup and tested so I just skip the initial setup so i must have missed that.
How does the speed of this build compare to polyrhythmic's? I tried that and unfortunately it was unbearably slow even off NAND. I guess it's back to WinMo for a little while

I may be a little biased but I would use this as my only phone, comparable to openeclair on my mytouch without the swap turned on.

Sorry, that would be a no for right now. Anybody got any tips? I'll update the 1st post.
Which nbh to use?
Ho do I know which .nbh file to use? There are so many of them.
For instance:
kaisimg-panel2-320-15-02-10.nbh
kaisimg-panel1-320-tilt-15-02-10.nbhWhat is the difference between the two?
What does the following stand for:
The panel2 and panel1
320 or 480
You get the picture... Basically - how do I know which one fits my device?
Thanks,
Eran

#1 check a default.txt that you used in the past to see what your panel type is, nobody can tell you what you have. I have a tilt and use panel 2. You may need to pick one and try, if the colors are messed up, try another
#2 the 320 is a resolution of 240X320 and the 480 is a resolution of 320X480
I always use the 320X480; then edit the /system/build.prop file to make the lcd.density 160; makes it close to 240X320 but you get all of the market apps
@ slm4996 any chance of getting this as a HaRET compatable? I have some programs that require I have windows, so I can't NAND now; and I would like to try this one out
INT Maps Navigation
I check your tar and i notice tha inside app folder there isn't Google Maps, Nav launcher and so on, it's possible to add it manually, importing the right apks inside the folder, and if it's possible where i can find the apks?
P.s. Your old build is great, as soon as my phone return from repairing, I will be glad to try this new baby...
Can I run this build from SD card?

Please test both.
Please note that you will have to do a install the first time you run haret so be sure to watch for the prompt to hold D-pad center.

Unless you are across the big pond google maps should install from the Market. Navstarter I can look into.
Inclusion/removal of apps?
Should I add or remove any apps out of the default build?
So far we have requests for:
Google maps
Navstarter
I'm not sure how I feel about including maps since it can be downloaded from the Market on this build...

My intention is to have the modiefied version of Google Maps with Nav launcher, 'cause I'm from Italy and in Europe Google Maps don't have the navigation enabled, we must use maps4.0.0-brut4.apk to enable it.
I have tried to put it insiede your old build but without success, it doesn't let me install the needed file to get it working, maybe i forget to put something else needed...i'll try with the new one as soon as possible....
The files that i'm writing about are inside OptionalApps pack of last poly builds...
vNESLight 1.0 is now live, bringing a redesigned GUI, new controls, improved save states and much more. It has also been split up into a fully functional ad-supported free version and a paid version (vNESLight Pro) without ads. Unfortunately that means the xap file will no longer be available for sideloading. Both versions should be up in all of the marketplace regions by the end of the week.
vNESLight (free): http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=3d8e51b8-1884-4aa7-bb2c-2eda47745a27

- Backup and restore your save states via SkyDrive
- Pin any game to the start screen
- Auto detects the best settings for your device
- Experimental Hardware Keyboard support
- The demo ROMs of Battle Kid 2 and Super Bat Puncher are included
Method 1 for adding games: (SkyDrive)
1) Get ROMs, don't ask me where. (use GoodNES branded ROMs if u have issues with invalid files)
(Optional) zip, or rar all your ROM files to more easily add a batch of games at once.
2) Login to https://skydrive.live.com/, you can use any Live account u like xbox, hotmail etc.
3) Upload said zip/rar file or nes games to SkyDrive.
4) Hit the + icon inside vNESLight, hit sign in to SkyDrive and navigate to your zip/rar or nes file then just tap on it to add the game(s).
Method 2: (via webserver, or direct link from dropbox)
1) Upload the files to your webserver (or dropbox)

Yeah that's what I'm most worried about as well, wish dev's had Mango already so I could do performance profiling on the phone, but at least it's possible on the emulator.

Looks like you're prayers were answered as dev's got it today apparently.
Aye still waiting for the invite e-mail for the Mango rom update, but I've already installed the new tools.
Currently pushing about 20-25 fps without sound atm, it's abit lower with sound.
Will be great to actually do some profiling on real hardware.
Did you receive your mango invite? I'm running the official Mango beta on my Focus.

Yeah, actually more or less done with the beta version for Mango already, you can seamlessly switch back and forth between the game thanks to the new multitasking.
I'm just trying to figure out how I'm gonna do the UI for the Nodo version.
As for the age old question on how to add roms to the app;
What I've come up with so far is, first you add all your rom files to a zip file called "nesgames.zip" then you open the xap file of the emulator in winzip (or another zip manager).
Finally you can just drag the "nesgames.zip" file into winzip to replace the standard "nesgames.zip" file and voila all your roms are added easily.

Sadly it didn't really, but it's helped a great deal by beeing able to performance test on a actual device.
I'll get the Mango beta version up in a couple of hours, just need clean up a couple of things.
Ok, just wanted to bump the thread to let u guys know that the beta version for Mango is out:
http://nudua.net/files/vneslightbeta1.xap
Check out the first post for more details (Update #2).
Awesome. Going to download and try it out.
Very nice for the first beta. I'm getting about 26-30 FPS on the games I've tried so far on my Focus running Mango beta 2.
Pros:
I like the way you add games to the XAP.
Multi-tasks
Pretty fast
Cons:
Controls
If you reopen the app (via icon) while its running, it relaunches it from the start. I remember seeing a command that you can add that will make it open like it does from the multitask window.
One thing to note. I saw a post about mango got rid of the 30 FPS limit by adding a new line in the program. But I can't remember if it was just for XNA games or if it included silverlight. Not sure if this would help your or not.
Very good work so far!
Yeah the controls are extremly basic, will definitely make them work a lot better.
Gonna check into resuming the app while it's still running, sounds like a much better way.
Tried getting rid of the 30fps limit, but the problem lies with the cpu, can't run the logic fast enough.
Cheers for the feedback
I submitted this to WMPU and they have an article about it. Hopefully this will get ya some more feedback.
I've been messing with the emulator more and it runs much better than the other NES emulator.

Cool cool, yeah I originally checked out that sharpnes based emulator myself, but getting something like that up to par would be a lot of work, considering the original project is so incomplete.
I'm currently checking out various ways to speed up the code even more.

Since this is a port of mature emulator called VirtualNES, most of the mappers (MMC's) needed to play are already done, so most games should work just fine.
The only problem game I've seen so far has been with Kid Dracula, but it's pretty easy to modifiy any single mapper.
But keep in mind, this is still a very early beta.

Most of the games I've tried run fine. Maniac Mansion doesn't display properly in some parts, but I've seen the issue in many emulators.
I see the controls on the first page, I don't have a QWERTY keyboard on mine, is there on-screen controls for this ?
Also for adding/removing games, why don't you look into the USBdriver option ( HERE ). There is addon (works with Nodo and mango) where you can use your WP7 device as a USB drive (same folders as music and pictures), you can create a NESROMS folder in there and anyone could manually add or remove games with out re-deplying the app, just by connecting with USB and closing Zune.
Please hit thanks if this helped !

The controls in the emulator are touch only, as for the controls mentioned in the post at the top are for the Silverlight 4 version, I'll clean up the original post so there's no confusion.
USBdriver looks pretty interesting, but I really don't want to complicate things.
And there's no reason why you can't add your ~50 most favorite NES games from the get go.
Hi,
First, thanks for all the development and trials with the firetv.
I can't say that I've done much more so far than follow directions and add some functionality to the device.
I did install the droidmote server which runs pretty good but cannot control all aspects of the device in default config. That's another post I think.
What I was asking about was the audio delay when using Bluetooth headphones. I side loaded the settings apk and gained the ability to pair BT headphones. Just a generic set from amazon here. They work pretty good but there is a delay in the audio. I can somewhat fix this with xbmc videos through audio delay, but Netflix and instant video don't have this fix. Any ideas on what I can do to get it all in sync?
Thanks
Glad to hear that DroidMote also works on Fire Tv.
Since the application is highly configurable and customizable, I can give you some help ?
The first part of this page is important, when you start the server for the first time, make sure that all configurations files are installed well.
http://www.videomap.it/dmcguide.htm
Absolutely. Thank you the app. It works pretty good, but I have to switch between all the inputs to maneuver around on the fire TV. Some screens I can use the mouse functions, but others I need to move to the arrow keys. The center select button doesn't seem to work though for selecting items on the second input screen of droidmote client.
I'm hoping to play around and see if I can configure the inputs to operate on the main firetv screen. The launcher seems different than my other TV stick android launchers.
Once again, thanks for your development. I look forward to more here on the fire TV.

Thanks to you.
If the center select button not work, make sure to have this files after the first start of the server.
In your FireTv:
droidmote.kl in /data/system/devices/keylayout
droidmote.kcm in /data/system/devices/keychars
droidmote.idc in /data/system/devices/idc
droidmotemt.idc in /data/system/devices/idc
droidmotegt.idc in /data/system/devices/idc
If you have this files it should works.
Instead if you want try to made a custom keylayout, get the droidmote.kl in /data/system/devices/keylayout
copy it where you want (also on your pc ) for edit and customization.
rename and put it in the Download folder of your device.
go in server settings and load your new keylayout.
With the multitouch functionality and with the touchmouse you can play with all games that need a touchscreen.
i suggest also to install the last version 3.3.9 from google play. This have most recent keylayout compatible also with Android Preview L that introduce little changes in the keylayout stuff.

Make sure that you load your new custom keylayout from server settings "change keylayout" and select it from the list.
your new keylayout appear in the list if you copy it in the Download folder of your sdcard.
a keylayout to work must have same file permissions of the previous version for this reason i suggest to load from server settings that do all automatically.
disconnect and reconnect the client to apply changes.
If this process not work only when you remap the center button ( scan code 232 ), mean that the source code of your FireTv was changed compared to original Android and the scan code 232 is remapped directly inside the sourcecode to act as different action and can't be remapped. ( very bad practise, infact in Android there are keylayout to support different mapping for external input devices. this is possible if you have a remote control that have an ok button that act as mouse left click.)
but you can always use the BUTTON_A of the soft gamepad like a center button. (rare case, because you have the mouse functionality to click and move around )
If you test the server on an Original Android device you see that the center button works well without remap it, because is a simple ENTER keycode.
Let me know if the center button really can't be remapped with the keylayout. I can also made a little modification to support the bad implementation of firetv.
UPDATE:
In a few hours, try the new Client version 3.7.9 and restore the Server to original keylayout configuration.
( Server settings -> change keylayout -> Default. disconnect reconnect client to apply changes )
I swapped the scan code 232 to 28 to help FireTv.
Because this change does not create any problem to the Server for Android, for Windows, and for all Linux variants.

Thanks for your test.
Now that you have DroidMote on FireTv, should be able to use also any standard Android launcher. In Fact with DroidMote you can do all multi-touch actions and use any apps designed for phones or tablet without restrictions on your FireTv.
( also multi-touch games with hardware controller )
Let me know what you can not do.... i can help you.
Install DroidMote Server
Hi,
I do have the bought version from Play Store of Droidmote Server. How can I sideload it on Fire TV? I did that but it says my license is invalid.
Install the play store app and sign in. That's the only way I've seen access for licensing that I have seen.
If you don't have the play store installed, there are quite a few how-tos shown.
How do you get the droidmote server onto the FireTV?

It sounds like you may not have all the play store support installed. Look at this link for play store install to make sure all steps are taken.
I would also install es file explorer as there is really decent support there for installing/managing/launching apps and general file management.

I keep on reading that the Fire TV Stick is supposed to have this dedicated free app to control be able to control it from your android device (and ios coming soon...blah blah) and use voice search from your phone/tablet also....but I can't find where to download it!! Don't know if it will even work to Fire TV but it would be pretty dumb if they didn't allow it too!!
Anybody know how and where to get this app??
Had my fire tv at my girlfriends house and her little crazy dog has destroyed 2 remotes so I bought her a chromecast and brought the Fire TV back home. I leave 1tb backup drive connected to the usb to play movies through xbmc and everytime I leave the house and come back I have to disconnect it, plug in wireless keyboard, start droidmote server, reconnect drive and remount using stickmounte...it's a waste of a whole 60 seconds but still a pain!!
I don't believe it has been released yet. Still two more weeks or so until the fire tv sticks start shipping, I would expect to see it before then.

Why you must start droidmote server manually ? It should start automatically if in settings you have checked auto start on boot.

I see that one can install the server on Windows. But can the client be installed on Windows. Planning on switching from an Android table to a full Windows 8.1 Tablet in the future. But could not find a reference of Windows 8.1 being the client to control the FTV. Not so much for games but mouse & keyboard inputs.

Zulu,
Any plans to get droidmote on the Amazon App Store? I would be happy to pay a premium on it there since I could use my amazon coins to buy it....
I would like a lot, but I can not for now for a question of the security of the app. It is not easy to be an Android app developer, despite the applications are very cheap, there is always someone ready to rip you off and because of this, there is often more work to do on the protection that on the app.
I think the Google Play should be installable for FREE on any Android devices. (like the Amazon app store) I do not understand why it should be sold by GMS license from Google if it contains apps that are owned by the developers. I hope that this serious problem of the Android world will be solved soon.

Any idea how to force the setting menu to open with a wireless keyboard?? I see the 3dot menu on the google play pics but don't have it on the app on my fire TV...even downloaded the 3dot xposed module but no luck! I know that the fire stick remote app is officially being released tmrw but really like this app and is probably still gonna be more useful than the official remote app!

Yes you can use the menu button of DroidMote Client.
Aside from that, I wanted to make a clarification:
The circle icon that you see when you move the mouse, is not a DroidMote stuff. If you use the Server on a standard Android device, you can see the classic mouse icon.
Instead the TouchMouse (for apps without mouse support, selectable by client settings ) is a DroidMote stuff and is the red transparent circle. But it is another thing.
Why your FireTv show the circle instead of the classic mouse icon ?
Because those who built the firmware has changed this icon replacing it with a really ugly in the Android Framework.
Where is the mouse icon inside the Android Framework ?
You can read this link to know, but do not try to change if you're not an expert on the Android OS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478523
P.S.
Android is an operating system that is constantly changing and all the apps within it change so fast-paced.
To have a good remote control, you need a lot of work and testing on many applications during the evolution of the OS.
For example with Android Lollipop, Android has been completely changed from the ground up, and it took a lot of work to adapt to it.
A good application for remote control, can only exist if a developer follows her and love her everyday, adapting to all the innovations, to apps and games that constantly change.
This is what I do every day.

Sorry for not being clearer - when I opened the app ALL I would see on the screen was the "big red circular button" in the center of the screen - the one that says off, not the cursor. But after using my keyboard to "click" the "button" and turn the service on I was able to use the client app to open up the setting and set it to start on boot

When you saw the red circle was because, inadvertently, in the settings of the Client you have selected the TouchMouse without selecting a correct TouchProfile.
The TouchMouse is useful when an app not have the mouse support. In all other circumstances, you can always use the mouse as rightly made at a later date.

Okay, so these install fine, but when they launch they give an error about no Amazon App Store found. I first mistakenly downloaded a version of Amazon Underground from Aptpoide, which also crashed after running, but on googling I found an official Amazon link which does work.
After logging into Amazon Underground, the apps no longer gave that error, but instead a new one about not having 'bought' these apps. I then tried to 'buy' them using the Amazon Underground app but they do not appear for me because I am in the Republic of Ireland.
I am sure I can get around this with some VPN trickery, just doing some when on our living room, mounting new TV etc, so have not gotten to it just yet.
In case you are wondering why I did not just set up a VPN in the first place and try to 'buy' the apps with an Android device, that is because I do not think this will give me a version compatible with a remote control, whereas we know the versions you have uploaded is.
I will update thread when I've set up VPN and tried all of this.
Has anyone else had any success?

Good work. I have a question: Do you do the reverse of this and remove checks from google play apks? Reason I ask is I've been trying to get Watch NFL network sideloaded on my firetvs, and they install but launching gives a can't launch from phone error and closes out. It works fine on my Minix neo x8 plus.

Nice work, thanks! :good:
Okay so I just cleared data, storage, reset defaults and (not sure if necessary since I then...) uninstalled the older versions and reinstalled your uploaded versions.
ITV Hub works perfectly :highfive: only issue I can see with it is that when you press back it displays a dialogoue asking 'Do you want to exit the ITV Hub' with the options Okay and Cancel. Pressing cancel does nothing, not a huge deal just thought I would mention it in case it is a quick fix.
Demand 5 loads their splashscreen, then for an instant a progress disc, and then prints the following error:
Code:
Whoops!
An error has occured and the application will now shut down.
<Exit button>
(FTVD5-500)
All 4 loads their splashscreen, and then the screen goes black and stays black. Please note this is the same behaviour as before you modified it, that is to say, unmodified Demand 5 and ITV Hub did load but gave errors about Amazon Underground, whereas All 4 never got that far.
- d3adpool, do you think it possible the apk you uploaded could have become corrupt, or could we rule that out as if it were we would not even see the All 4 splashscreen?
Is there anything you could try?

Cool, I had a look at the thread and I can see you have been busy - and are taking requests.
If you are able to modify an Android TV app to work on regular Android, does that mean you can also do the reverse? If so could you please modify regular Android versions of RTÉ Player, 3Player, and TG4 so that they will work on Android TV with a remote? 3Player is giving me some bogus error at the moment so I have posted in an Irish forum to see if anyone else is experiencing it, and TG4 only comes up for me on Google Search showing a compatibility issue, and not in Play Store on either of my Android devices, so I have asked about that also, I just want to check they are working okay before I upload them for you. RTÉ Player does work and I have attached it below:
I'm not sure if they got corrupted or not. They did load for me on my ftv. Previous experience with sideloading ftv apps on other android devices tells me that usually it won't work. I have a MXIII and a Minix neo x8plus and on both I've attempted to sideload ftv apps and none of them have actually loaded. Either I would get a parsing error, sitting on a loading screen when trying to play a video, HDCP error (HBOGO), or some other random error. Most times you're better off installing apks from the google play store.

Can you define clean version? d3adpool has been a great help so far, perhaps if he is still willing, there is something he could do to make sure his version is not dirty?
About not being able to add remote functionality to the regular Android app, RTÉ Player app, is this something that would be possible if someone put enough time into it, or is it just set up in such a way that it would never work? I just know a bit of C and C++ at the moment, but perhaps when I learn a few more languages I could help with this. Would having access to the source code of Samsung Smart TV apps for the same channels help? This is something I could provide. I appreciate they are probably in a completely different language.
