Hello,
I have some questions regarding installing custom roms on a Koodo Galaxy S3 i747M currently running stock 4.1.2 rooted. I'd like to try a custom ROM such as AOKP to get more out of my device, but I'd like to know a little bit more before doing so.
I heard backing up with titanium backup saves a lot of stuff, but if I don't like the rom/battery usage how can I go back to stock 4.1.2 rooted?
Also, how can I install and which version of AOKP should I try to install?
How can I reset the flash counter if i switch roms?
Will installing a custom rom wipe everything such as my music (external sd card) my games, app data, roms, videos etc?
Thanks for taking the time to help me, I've been searching for 3 days now, but I'm always finding either outdated informations of informations about different galaxy s3 models or informations about different carriers. I just want to take no chances since this cellphone is important for me.

First of all if you rooted already probably switched... for resetting counter you need triangle away app.
Second for installing custom rom and for backup/restore roms (including your stock rom) you need to install CWM or TWRP.
Third as long as you install CWM(or TWRP) make nandroid backup!
Fourth all operations using CWM (or TWRP) is not device specific.
Fifth flashing roms does not increment counter.

I used a method which does not trigger the flash counter, so flashing roms won't trigger it? How can I install CWM or TWRP? And how can i just take all my data from stock 4.1.2 to AOKP? Sorry for all these questions I'm just not sure .

Most references to initial installs of CWM or TWRP I have seen involve using either Odin or Heimdall to install the custom recovery. When I have done this it was with the installation of a kernel that included the recovery. Subsequent upgrades to the recovery are often done from a flashable zip within the custom recovery. You can find the downloads for the recoveries in the forums.
You can use Titanium Backup to save user apps, ones you installed, and their data. This will make reinstallation on the new ROM much faster than downloading the apps again. It is also possible to backup system apps and their data. Everything I have read says it is a bad idea to restore the system apps to a new ROM. Restoring the data from system apps from your old ROM to the new one may be a hit or miss thing. At one time you needed to backup SMS/MMS data and contacts with something other than TiBu. I'm not sure if it will do the job on it's own now. It wouldn't hurt to backup the info with more than one method.
How can I install it using Odin? I can never find info about the i747m and is it carrier specific version? Like Koodo I have?

If the it you are wanting install is AOKP, I just cruised over to the AOKP thread in the original development forum for the AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III and learned that they provide the ROM as .zip files. Such a file would be installed/flashed from a custom recovery. Links to download the .zip is in the initial post as are their limited instructions. Most ROMs will have similar links and instructions in the first post, if not it seems they are in one of the first three posts.
If you are referring to a custom recovery; decide which you want to install, CWM or TWRP. I have seen references to installing a custom recovery using the PDA slot of Odin. I can not state that I have done this, I only have Linux and have been using Heimdall for the past year. The custom recoveries I installed using Odin were several years ago and were injected in the kernel I installed. My Captivate has a custom recovery that came with the kernel, my SGS3 is still on stock recovery. All I have seen says that you can use same recoveries on the i747M that are used on the i747 for AT&T. The AOKP FAQ page has links to the ClockworkMod page, which links to downloads for their recovery.

I think easiest ways is installing Goo Manager from play store. Then install TWRP using menu.

I looked in the play store for rom manager since I read somewhere that it could install the it (clockwork mod) easily but it just told me i747m is not supported. I'll try to see the aokp FAQ. So i747m Koodo is the same as i747 ATT? it won't brick my phone if I install the Att gs3 clockwork mod?

I have never seen a differentiation between bootloaders recoveries for the i747 and i747M in the various ROM threads I have read in the SGS3 forums. The biggest difference between the devices will be bootloaders and modems. Use caution if you are updating/changing these.
It may be best for you to verify what I have told you in the ROM thread, if you are able to post there. I have seen how some have posted to the development forums with low post counts so maybe you can. If not on the post thread, possibly raise the question on the AOKP site. (I don't have a lot or experience modding my devices, presume to have all of the answers, nor to correctly recall all that I have read.)

Looking at Wikipedia and it appears the s3 i747m is the same model as the ATT one. How can I flash clockwork mod recovery? And if in the end it does not work with my phone will it become bricked?

You will most likely trip the flash counter when you install the custom recovery, it may matter to you. If it does you can use the Triangle Away tool to reset. [Howto] Install a Recovery discusses manually, using either adb or terminal emulator, installing a recovery and links to other threads with automated installations. The most recent CWM for the SGS3 is 6.0.4.7 you can get it from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager Using the manual method you can install recovery without using Odin or Heimdall.
Since you are rooted, GooManager would work for you. A number of people with Canadian versions of the SGS3 have reported that they used GooManager to flash the d2att version of CWM with complete success.
To install with Odin or Heimdall you will need a version of the recovery packaged as a .tar.md5 or .tar. Be sure to get the most recent version of CWM. It can be found with a search of the forums. There are tutorials available about using Odin, in short put the .tar.md5 into the PDA slot. Bear in mind that I don't use Odin, read about it for before using. Caveat, some older ROMs may require an older version of the recovery.
(I edited my previous post to correct a misstatement on my part, I changed bootloader to recovery)
I used the Terminal Emulator method this thread showed and it worked without problems, thanks a lot!
Just another queston : Can i flash a 4.2/4.3/4.4 Rom (such as AOKP) without updating the "bootloader" and installing Knox on my cellphone and still be able to return to 4.1.2?

You would have to check the requirements of the ROM you select for flashing.
There are two 4.3 bootloaders discussed in the ROM threads. Either will work with ROMs requiring a 4.3 bootloader. If the ROM you choose requires a 4.3 bootloader you can still go back to 4.1.2 IF YOU CHOOSE WISELY.
The MJ2 bootloader is from the leaked version of the 4.3 update. It will not prevent you from going back to 4.1.2. It does not have Knox.
The MJB bootloader is from the official 4.3 release. It will prevent you from going back to 4.1.2. It does have Knox.
(Both of these are for the AT&T 1747, Canadian variants use different bootloaders. Particulars for those devices are unfamiliar to me.)

Ok, how can I find out the bootloader version from the rom? I found multiple ones for instance here and here. How do I know if they need updated bootloader? And are these roms version-specific unlike CWM which was device-specific?

I found references to the updated MJB bootloader in the AOKP thread to which you linked. A search and close reading of that thread may tell you if it can also use the MJ2 bootloader. Likewise, you could check the AOKP faq linked to in the ROM thread, also, be sure and check the faq comments.
If a ROM is 4.3 or 4.4.x based it will probably require either the MJ2 or MJB bootloader. If it is 4.2.x or earlier you should be able to use the 4.1.1 (LK3) or 4.1.2 (MG2) bootloaders. It would be best to read and ask questions in the thread of the ROM you intend to install. Don't forget that current requirements of nightlies may vary from those of milestones from a couple of months ago.

Looking back at some of the stuff you have posted I see that you are on a Canadian device.
The MJ2 and MJB bootloaders probably don't apply to you. You should currently have a different one on your device, updates will not be to MJ2 or MJB. Some of the Canadian bootloaders don't prevent you from going back to earlier stock ROMs. I don't know if all of them are this way. Meaning I recall seeing that the MK5 bootloader for the Rogers (?) will allow people to go back to 4.1.2 ROMs. Other Canadian bootloaders may or may not let you go back.

Hi, even though you are on stock 4.1.2, remember: you have root privileges now. You can flash any ROM designed/built for your particular variant of the Note 2. That simply means stick with flashing ROM that match your device's model number.
Next, I flashed JediMasterX this morning. It is built from stock firmware Android 4.3 for the Note2 so you can flash this ROM, if there's a build for your variant. You don't need to flash the actual firmware to upgrade to 4.3 ROM. All builds in the forum come from source code, which means there is a base design for each kind of phone, but Android is Android and it follows certain predetermined rules.
One thing you need to do is read the OP to whichever ROM it is you are thinking about flashing. The ROM chef is going to place some very important information on the first page where they present their ROM. It is much advised that you follow those guidelines down to the letter. For instance, you want to flash JediMasterX, right? Did you know that the OP mentions that if you haven't already updated to 4.3, (BTW...there are links in the forums for each carrier to download the stock firmware and they're already root and you don't have Knox to worry about!) that you should flash a particular kernel after flashing the ROM. You'll even find a link to the stock 4.3 modem, which is necessary for providing a data connection. That is less necessary than flashing the kernel and the OP explains why.
I hope this has helped. Make sure you have your custom recovery set-up and that you already have a Nandroid backup of your root stock firmware or another ROM you have recently flashed. Always keep a backup, more than one is even better!
Happy Flashing!

Yes I want to flash JediMaster X but I heard that if i don't have the stock bootloader WiFi will be dropping in and out. Support for devil kernel in V2 is being dropped or something (so i wanted a solution in which i don't have to flash devil kernel) so I need to have the stock bootloader to have stable connection. Yeah I was just looking for the simplest process to get everything working on JediMasterX 4.3

I totally understand you. And that's where that kernel I mentioned comes in. It's called the dual-boot or Devil's kernel by @DerTeufel You need to either flash that kernel after flashing the ROM via the Aroma installer. Reboot back into recovery and flash the kernel OR flash the bootloader patch provided by another senior contributor in the forum. That link is somewhere in the OP and you have this option. Download and flash the stock root 4.3 firmware -- it already is Knox free -- for your device. Then flash your downloaded JediMasterX ROM and you won't need to worry about flashing the kernel.

I forgot to mention one other thing. I know that JediMasterX was shared with us earlier in December. One thing of interest, and this is solely for your information...don't go trying it until you're more comfortable with flashing and more importantly recovery! The N7105 is compatible with the T889 and that allows us to flash ROM built for our respective variants. The Devil's kernel was built for the N7105 originally. And I just downloaded a pretty updated -- as of this month -- version of the kernel yesterday. I did read in @DerTeufel's OP for the Devil's kernel that he wouldn't be supporting any requests for changes to the kernel. But the kernel is solid. Has been for quite some time!
Sorry it's taken me long to reply. Wouldn't you know my phones are both drained and I hadn't turned on my computer yet. Anyway, important thing is to read, read, read. I know you might get bored clicking through pages, but it's really cool when you find updates to certain ROM you like buried in those pages instead of posted on the main page. Or you find tips to a having a better experience on the ROM you happen to be on by using a mod listed in a forum. And you can learn a whole lot from everyone in these forums, but reading through the forums will teach you things about root, what you can and cannot do, that no single person can.
Hope this helped! Have fun flashing!

Yea, you're going to download and flash through desktop Odin the stock root 4.3 firmware. You download the zip, unzip and place the .md5 file in PDA of Odin. You'll then need to flash a recovery image through Odin as well so your recovery partition will be ready to flash into recovery and then backup the stock root firmware. Keep it in case you want to go back. And always do a complete wipe in recovery for a clean install of any ROM you flash.
Computer is super slow today. ARgH! lol

I know what you mean and I'm using the official ROM now without Knox
Step 1: Root your phone
Step 2: Install Titanium Backup pro (u can download the APK from apkmania or any other site)
Step 3: Find the apps in the screenshot from Chrome to Mobile life
Step 4: back up each one of them (in case if u need Knox later)
Step 5: uninstall
Step 6: have fun, your phone is Knox free

Hello, I know there are many threads on restoring a bricked S3, some of them for hard bricks, and some for soft bricks. None of the guides I found by scouring these forums provided all of the answers I needed.
INFO PLEASE READ ALL
Here I hope to outline how I restored my T999 Tmobile S3 to stock firmware after the 4.3 MJC update, and after bootloader bricking the phone. I do assume you are capable of using ADB, ODIN and TWRP. I believe this method will work for other S3 models, but I have no ability to test it. If it will work, firmware and debrick IMGs will have to be found for the specific device. The T999 firmware and IMGs will NOT work with other devices. This will restore to stock UVUEMJC 4.3 firmware. Will not be rooted, but existing 4.3 roots for the device should work.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE. THE TOOLS USED IN THIS GUIDE HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BRICK, OR OTHERWISE DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
So as context, I had been flashing different ROMS; then I updated to stock 4.3 UVUEMJC Firmware. This updated the bootloader, and installed the Samsung KNOX security upgrade. Both the bootloader and the KNOX are problems regarding rooting, rom installation, and downgrading (which I still have not achieved)
After upgrading, I installed a vanilla rootbox. I then attempted to flash the UVDMD5 bootloader at mnasledov's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282603
Lacking my present understanding, of the 4.3/KNOX problems, I managed to brick my phone by effectively attempting to downgrade the bootloader. Phone appeared to be hard bricked.
I tried many things to fix the phone, these are what worked:
GUIDE:
1. Get a Class 10 MicroSD card and follow KAsp3rd's guide to boot from the SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367
You should now be able to boot to download mode, recover, and system if it was undamaged when you bricked your phone.
2. Boot into download mode and install TWRP via ODIN
3. Boot into your new TWRP recovery. Do an ADB sideload of the KNOX removal script found in Kaito95's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507931 Check the clear cache and clear dalvik recovery boxes. You have to do an ADB sideload, because your SD card is in use as a bootloader.
4. Use ODIN with Download Mode to Re-Partion by flashing the PIT file found in invisiblek's downloads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848267
The Re-Partition box will have to be checked, and the PIT file loaded under Re-Partition. This is what I believe corrected the download mod fails I had been getting.
5. Use ODIN and Download mode to flash the original UVUEMJC firmware found in DocHoliday77's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
6. In TWRP do a factory reset, and a fix permissions. Reboot into system, (without the SD card)
If all went well you should be in business!
If you see any error in my guide, or have another correction, please let me know. If I have posted this in the wrong section I'll be happy to move it.
I hope this helps you.
ROOTING:
So after fixing my phone via the steps above, I still wanted to root it. To root it I simply ODIN flashed mrRobinson's rooted/deKNOXED 4.3 stock rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
It seemed very stable to me.
I then decided to use TWRP to install the CyanogenMod 10.2. If you choose to install CM, I believe you must use the 10.2 branch, because it is 4.3 based. Prior versions are not 4.3, and won't work with the 4.3 bootloaders. You can find the appropriate CM download by selecting your device here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/ The T999 is d2tmo.
EDIT: YOU CAN RUN OLDER VERSIONS AFTER UPDATING TO 4.3.
This was pointed out to me by Adreaver. I personally am using rootbox 4.2.2 after having done the 4.3 official update. Any rom for the device should work, but certain lines may need be removed form the updater script. I am still looking into this.

This has been confirmed to work on the T999L, but you need a different PIT file, and different firmware for the model. See @mrspock08 's post on page 2 of this thread for more info on the T999L
THANKS
I could not have debricked my phone or created this guide without referencing and using the work of several fine members of this forum. Particular thanks to:
@mnasledov for providing a thread with information about bootloaders.
@KAsp3rd for providing a way to boot from the SD card, enabling the entire rest of the debrick.
@Kaito95 for the deKNOX script.
@invisiblek for the PIT file for correctly repartitioning the phone.
@DocHoliday77 for the MJC 4.3 Stock Firmware mirror.
@mrRobinson for the rooted MJC Stock firmware
@Adreaver for correcting me that you can run an older version of android
And the threads of many many others who's work I read through while learning about how all of this works.
Nice guide. I think @DocHoliday77 could use this method because I believe he bricked his phone the same way.
Oh, and I believe you might have made a typo SDB is actually ADB Android debug bridge.

Nice writeup. I assumed that a bootloader brick was the point of no return, thanks for proving me wrong.
Worth noting that you can flash any d2tmo ROM on the new bootloaders, even cm9 or 4.0.4 tw, but you may need to remove asserts from the updater-script.

For most phones the bootloader brick would require JTAG; fortunately several of the Samsungs have the SD as default boot.
And you can flash older ROMs? I was unaware of this; every attempt I've made to run something older has resulted in a getprop(ro.bootloader) error. But that updater script assert makes sense. Thank's for letting me know. I'll check that out and add it to the OP

Restoring bootloader to bricked S3 T999L
TronMinecraft said:
Here I hope to outline how I restored my T999 Tmobile S3 to stock firmware after the 4.3 MJC update, and after bootloader bricking the phone. I do assume you are capable of using ADB, ODIN and TWRP. I believe this method will work for other S3 models, but I have no ability to test it. If it will work, firmware and debrick IMGs will have to be found for the specific device. The T999 firmware and IMGs will NOT work with other devices. This will restore to stock UVUEMJC 4.3 firmware. Will not be rooted, but existing 4.3 roots for the device should work.

Great guide, thanks a ton to @TronMinecraft for this writeup! I've been lucky and haven't bricked my S3 T999L (the T-Mobile LTE variant), but a relative wasn't so lucky. She took the OTA upgrade and when she wasn't happy with the result tried to just restore to her old 4.1.2 backup. Needless to say she bricked her phone.
So, I can confirm that this method DOES work on a T999L. However, there are a couple of things to note (these should be no-brainers, but in the interest of saving questions from the newbies out there...) Of course like Tron said, I take no responsibility for damage to your device should you try this. I can only tell you that it worked fine for me. Here's the things to watch out for, listed by the steps in the OP:
4. Make certain that you use the correct PIT file for the T999L. The proper PIT file for the T999L is the one DocHoliday uploaded here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848267&page=3. Do not use the regular T999 PIT file from @invisiblek's first post in that thread, which is what was linked to in the OP.
5. Make sure you use the correct firmware for the T999L, NOT the T999. If you're trying to recover from a brick then most likely you're going to want the Original UVAMB7 firmware (JB 4.1.2), since it seems most bricks lately are caused by trying to downgrade after flashing the 4.3 update. Of course if you want to you can also flash the UVUBMK4 (4.3) firmware and get the complete stock 4.3 system, including the bootloader, KNOX, etc.
However, if you're just recovering from a brick and want 4.3 I would recommend not just flashing the UVUBMK4 firmware directly. Rather, I would flash the older UVAMB7 firmware, and then once your phone is back up and running flash DocHoliday77's UVUBMK4 4.3 Rooted, deodexed_KnoxFREE ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370981&page=58. Once you've done that, just flash the updated modem from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987 as needed. This way you end up with the full rooted version of the 4.3 firmware but without the 4.3 bootloader which includes KNOX and causes so many problems with downgrading.
Of course that's just my two cents. I've been running my S3 with DocHoliday's stock UVUBMK4, KnoxFree, rooted ROM with the UVAMB7 bootloader and UVUBMK4 radio for over a month now and haven't had any problems. As always, your mileage may vary.

This really isn't quite the right place for such a question. A search will yield you great results.
But yes, there's no reason you couldn't if you're sure you have the right firmware for your GS3 model. However if you simply want a stock update, I'd just use the OTA update function, or kies. Its a bit safer than manually messing with Odin, and won't void your warranty.
Very useful thread. Bricking is actually a lot easier than I thought.

You CAN NOT DOWNGRADE 4.3.
This guide is to unbrick you and return you to 4.3 if you tried to downgrade (which won't work, ever).
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Actually, from my own experimentation you were right, you can in fact downgrade from 4.3. You just can't flash a rom that tries to change the bootloader. You cannot downgrade the 4.3 bootloader; but there isn't any reason why you can't run an earlier version of android.
I am currently running 4.2.2 rootbox AFTER having having done the official 4.3 update.
I did this with TWRP, and a rootbox flashable zip.

You did not downgrade. You flashed a custom ROM.
An example of downgrading would be a user on md5 flashing ljc with Odin. This puts bootloader, ROM, kernel, and baseband exactly as Samsung intended when LJC was released.

Hi im new on this forum and I would like to have some tricks and tips cause I just rooted my phone yesterday and it seems more difficult to find information for my phone I have a galaxy s3 on 4.3 sgh i747m with Rogers .... Is it me or there is just a lot more stuff made for the i9300... I have tried to find ROM'S and tricks to put CWM recovery but it's harder to find information !!
to put CWM recovery I saw a lot of stuff saying download rom manager and install CWM recovery with this app but they offer me a version of CWM recovery for a galaxy s3 (metro cps) they doesn't say if it's made for a sgh i747 so im really scared to do something wrong if I install this version of CWM recovery ..
Could some one help me maybe with website limks or a guide for beginers noob like me or this forum seem's to be really good with some people with knowledge
Before my galaxy s3 I had a Jailbreak Iphone 3gs a year ago but Rooting an Android and putting stuff on it is not really the same thing it's far away from it!
And does it matter if put some stuff on my phone made for at&t sprint etc.... even if those are sgh i747
Hey,
I am running CM11 d2att and CWM d2att on my i747m and it works perfectly. It has been so long since I did it that I can't remember the exact steps that I took, so I would do some more research. Everything I needed to know was on these forums somewhere.
I believe the rough steps I took were:
- Root
- Install CWM (d2att)
- Update bootloaders (i747m)
- Flash d2att rom
But I can't remember exactly, so do some research before you go ahead!
You can install pretty much whatever you'll find in these forums except for bootloaders and modems.
There are specific bootloaders/modem for the i747m vs. i747.
The rest, unless explicitely specified otherwise, is 100% compatible between i747 and i747m.
As for your recovery script, I would suggest installing TWRP instead of CWM.
TWRP is more user friendly for people that are new to Android and both are usually supported.
For this, go to the Play Store, download and install the "Goo manager" application.
Once installed, open up the app, hit the menu button and select the "install recovery script" option.
It will automatically select/download/install the correct recovery for your phone and ask you to confirm before doing so.

I recommend not updating your phone to any stock 4.3 ROM. A stock 4.3 ROM will install a 4.3 bootloader which cannot be downgraded and may cause problems when trying to root or get back to stock.
Some newer ROMs require an updated bootloader in order to install and boot. I am running a 4.1.2 bootloader on my i747m and don't have any problems installing 4.4.2 ROMs.
Rooting gives you access to the system files and does not unlock you bootloader.
For installing custom ROMs, I use Philz Touch which is based on CWM. I have tried TWRP and I was getting errors when flashing custom ROMs. I was able to flash the same ROM using Philz Touch without a problem. TWRP is more user friendly but doesn't work as well for me.

Your post says youhave 4.3 on your phone. Is it a stock 4.3 ROM?
d2att (i747) is the AT&T version of the s3. Canada has the i747m.
The bootloader does not need to be unlocked in order to install a custom recovery or to root like Motorola phones.
The bootloader is software that an OS works with in order to function as a phone.

but can I put any custom rom for my model the i747 or 747m ? The carrier doesn't have any importance ?
Any warranty left on your phone? Installing a custom ROM will void your warranty.
If you want to install a custom rom, copy the ROM you want to the internal or external SD card, install Philz Touch recovery, boot into recovery, wipe cache, Dalvik, install the ROM, and reboot.
You can install any ROM for the d2att as long as the ROM supports the phone's bootloader.

Hey all. I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to rooting, though I have done a few succesfully in the past. I currently have the newest version of TWRP installed on my Samsung I747M. The I747M I have is not from one of the major carriers, but as far as I am aware, the phone is factory network unlocked. Carrier is GCI, in Alaska.
I currently have a 4.4.2 Touchwiz Rom installed and started having problems after I attempted to flash the ROM Dandroid, which is 4.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121506). I had created a backup using TWRP before flashing the ROM and reverted back once I noticed the problem.
The main issue I am experiencing at this time is the Baseband Version, IMEI, and other information related to the modem is showing "Unknown" and features such as wifi will not toggle on.
I had also attempted to flash the most current version of the modem that I was able to find thru Odin. Odin showed the flash as successful. The version I flashed to the phone was I747MUMUEND3: modem_CWM_I747MUMUEND3.zip - 18.80 MB - April 3rd, 2014 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898)
At this point, I can still get into recovery, download modem and I am able to boot up the phone and access most all functions. The next step I was going to try was going to be to flash back to stock firmware from sammobile's website (Was using to use the Roger's version of 4.4.2), though I don't want to cause more issues than I can handle or resolve thru software.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated or even just how to get the modem/wifi features functional again would be helpful. I'm just as happy staying on my current ROM at this point if I can get the phone fully functional again.
It's possible that the rom is not compatible with the kk modem and bootloader.
Flash cm12.1 to see if your imei comes back.

Forgot to mention, this is something I did try. I attempted to flash Cyanogen Mod 12.1 (Download: cm-12.1-20151017-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (286.76 MB) ) and most recent nightly build & the most recent stable release (CM11) (Download: cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2att.zip (194.37 MB) ). When flashing these, I transferred the downloaded ZIP file to the internal storage of the phone in the root directory and attempted to run an install from TWRP. Both installs failed.
Since the phone is an i747m, I recommend flashing back to stock using Odin 3.07 and stock ROM file from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747M/
The i747m versions are interchangeable between Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
After flashing back to stock, install TWRP using Odin 3007 from here: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/twrp-2.8.7.0-d2att.img.tar
Create a nandroid backup using TWRP and then try to flash a custom ROM again.

I'll give that a shot when I get home. Stock firmware was one of my next thoughts. I have it downloading at the measly 15 Kbps offered for free from sammobile so hopefully should be done by the time I get home & update this thread with any progress.
Another possibility is a custom kernel, if you are wishing to stay with TouchWiz and not wanting to upgrade your bootloader and modem past 4.3.
Some of the 4.4.2 TW roms will run on 4.3 bootloader and modems using one of ibuddler's kernels or ktoonsez's TW kernel. This was discussed most in the Likewise ROM thread and links to the various versions of ibuddler's kernel may be found there. It may have also been discussed in TMS3KK thread. The ktoonsez kernel can be found in its own thread.
But, you may really want to consider a newer ROM in order to change to something with the stagefright fixes. I think any of these may require the latest 4.4.2 bootloader and modem. (What say you @audit13?)

I'm not opposed to any of this. Mostly just trying to slim down this phone to the basics as much as I can and am quite open to any recommendations. Main thing I want to maximize is battery life & simplicity since this is for my wife and those are her major wants in a phone. I figure any kind of ROM that just covers the basics should cover my bases & would prefer one with a darker/black skin to maximize battery life w/ the OLED screen. I am in the process of flashing to the Roger's stock ROM as I type this w/ my fingers crossed.
Just to add, no over clocking or anything of that nature is desired. If I remember correctly I ended up putting the ktoonsez kernel on one of my handsets, either this Galaxy S3 or my Galaxy S5, though I can't recall which since it was so long ago.
Alright! So progress! Wifi, Baseband version, IMEI and all other missing information restored & now works w/ stock rom flash. In process of reflashing TWRP now.
Let us know what happens.
Still all good with TWRP installed. Have not flashed back on a custom ROM yet. After reviewing some of the above recommendations, I am kind of liking the looks & features of TMS3KK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725750) and feel it would suit my needs.
I factory reset, cleared cache, and cleared Dalvik thru TWRP & then made a back up. Prior to this, I confirmed everything was still working normally w/ phone fully loaded after TWRP was installed.
One of the things mentioned on the installation instructions for that ROM is the following:
---
Do not mix and match 4.3 firmware (bootloaders/modem) with the new 4.4.2 ones. You will hard brick and I warned you. This works the same as any 4.3 or ND8port ROM with 4.3 firmware and it can use the new 4.4.2 ones also.
Link to recovery flashable i747 and i747M 4.4.2 bootloader and modem packages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...hable-t2856914
---
How would I go about confirming my current bootloader/modem versions to make sure they are both 4.4.2 before flashing this ROM? At the link provided, those files/links to the files were removed because they were causing some bricked devices per a note at the top of that thread. Here's a link to the thread I am referencing since the above link looks to be broken. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...mware-ne4-ne6-nf2-recovery-flashable-t2856914)
If you flashed the latest stock rom, you are running the latest 4.4.2 bootoader and modem.
You can download and run the Samsung phone info app from the play store to confirm this.
You should be good to flash any d2lte or d2att rom.
I recommend not flashing any modem or bootoader from this point forward unless the bootoader and modem are newer than the currently installed botloader and modem. Also, the botloader and modem must be matched to each other.

If you are still on the original bootloader and modem you should be able to revert to stock 4.1.1 by simply restoring the backup from your recovery. Before you attempt to do so verify that you are indeed on the 4.1.1 bootloader. This can be done with the Phone Info *Samsung* app by VndNguyen (?sp) from the playstore or by a couple of terminal emulator commands:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
getprop | grep version.baseband
If you do not already have terminal emulator installed, it may have come with the ROM, you can get it from the Playstore. It may also be a part of CWM recovery, it is part of TWRP I know for sure.
If it turns out you are on a newer bootloader and modem then go with a stock ROM that matches the bootloader and modem on the phone. To run a lollypop rom you will need to be on at least the NE4 bootloader and modem.
Thanks for a very helpful reply. I m going to follow your instructions. Will soon replay. Thanks again.

Okay got Samsung phone info app.
Boot loader version -------I747UCDLK3
Baseband version -----I747UCDLK3
And please explain LATEST NE4 BOOT LOADER.
Thanks
You are currently running the LK3 bootloader and modem. If I am not mistaken that's a pretty old one (original?). You will have to update to NE4 or newer firmware before you can flash any of the newer roms. They will not boot in the older ones.
Your firmware is actually the only one available for download so I recommend flashing it via Odin and factory resetting. Then update using the Software Update option in Settings > About Device.
You can download your LK3 firmware here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747/
You may have to run Software update several times to fully update.
That is probably the safest and easiest course you can take.
After that, flash the latest custom recovery of your choice, then flash the rom you want.

BTW, after flashing the LK3 firmware, you might want to consider using the free Sim unlock method. (Should be pretty easy to find).
Once you update past 4.3 you can no longer use it. It will allow the device to be used on other carriers networks, which can be beneficial if you ever want to sell it or switch carriers.

What DocHoliday77 suggests is probably the safest method to get what you want. After each update the system will force you to wait 24 hours before you can make the next update. That would be three days to get to NE4, the first 4.4.2 release by AT&T, which you need to run lollipop ROMs. If you want to update to the current release (NJ2) that would be two additional days.
You can shortcut the required waiting period by manually advancing the system date after each update.
In addition to not allowing you to use the free unlock, once you take the 4.3 bootloader it prevents you from downgrading bootloaders. Newer bootloaders do the same, downgrading will be a thing of the past. (I never took the official 4.3 bootloader until the stagefright scare came along and I went from my older custom ROM to a new release.)

1:- Okay I fully understood what I have to do to flash lolly pop . But confused a little bit . If I have original boodloader than it should be easier to restore my stock 4.1.1 . Backup (still not clear) .
2:- I am out of USA. The device in unlocked. I am using ZONG sim on it. So the question is can I still update the device via OTA.
Thanks

When you say original bootloader I don't know which you have. My i747 came with 4.1.1 but before I could get it out of the clerk's hands they had taken the OTA to change it from DLK3/4.1.1 bootloader and stock rom to MG2/4.1.2 bootloader and stock rom. Even more confusing I have read reviews that state the SGS3 was originally released with android 4.0.4.
If your original bootloader was older than 4.3 (MJB) AND you have never upgraded to MJB or newer, then you can safely return to stock 4.1.1.
To get OTAs you need to be on the stock ROM, at least you do in the USA. I don't know if that holds true elsewhere.
I can confirm the S3 was originally shipped with 4.0.4! We were updated pretty quickly though.
As for the OTA'S, you do have to be full stock, not rooted. But you also have to be on AT&T network.
I don't know how far back the OTA'S are hosted around here, but enewman17 has several threads that provide the more recent ones. Hopefully someone will have the older ones. If I am not mistaken, you will have to update incrementally once you reach 4.3. (it's probably safe to jump straight to a 4.3 build if you can find the right firmware for it. But don't hold me to that as I am not 100% certain.
I'll look to see if I can find something you can use too.

I got this while searching online. Please tell me if it is helpful for.me.
http://androidromupdate.com/att-samsung-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747-odin-stock-firmware/
Never been to that site, but it looks OK to me. Nice find in fact! All the usual firmware sites stopped getting the AT&T firmware a while back.
Anyway, just to clarify, LK3 is 4.1.1. UCDLK3 is just the build number.
If you want to get fully updated, I suggest Odin flashing the MJB (4.3) firmware. Then flash each of the OTA's until you are updated to where you want to be. (I would fully update, but that'll be up to you.) The OTA'S are intended to be flashed from stock recovery, but there is another option if you want to try it. Mobile Odin is an app by chainfire. It does require you to be rooted, but it will flash the OTA. Read his thread here on xda to learn more. It's one of my favorite apps tbh! Once you learn how to use it it makes flashing quite easy.
So my recommendation would be this:
Flash MJB with Odin.
Root using Towelroot (easiest root ever)
Install Mobile Odin and flash the OTA'S.
I hope that clears things up a bit!

Update:- I am stock 4.1.1 now . I restored the device from custom AOKP kit kat rom using the stock 4.1.1 backup which I have made via CWM recovery. The device is running perfectly.
*****tried to run OTA but it says ur. Device in up to date . Means I cant get any OTA up date . So the question is can I get any custom lollypop rom using this older bootloader. ? (LK3)

To be able to run a lollipop rom you will need to update bootloader and modem. Update them together, this is important once you reach the 4.4.2 level of bootloader and modem that you will need to run lollipop roms. Once you reach 4.4.2 you will brick your phone if the bootloader and modem versions are not the same.
Before starting to flash any of the files you need to get you up and running on lollipop, I strongly suggest you download all you need from start to finish. Store the files you will need in the upgrade process either on an external sdcard or on the root of your internal sdcard. I haven't used CWM Recovery on my SGS3 since shortly after rooting it, I have been using TWRP since then, and I don't recall all of the capabilities of CWM recovery. If the CWM version you have will not let you flash from an external sdcard you will need to store the files you will use on the root of the internal card to be able to flash them. It will be easier to do this before you start, unless you are comfortable with pushing files from a computer using adb.
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING I AM SUGGESTING read enough that you thoroughly understand what I am saying. After reading, ask questions for clarification. Be sure you have no doubts.
Decide if you intend to install a rom along with the bootloader and modem at each upgrade; or if you are going to install updating only bootloader and modem until you get them to them point that you can run a lollipop ROM. Since you said you can not do OTA updates, either way will work. Whichever you decide, you can not skip directly to the bootloader and modem you need for lollipop.
If you are installing bootloader and modems without the rom:
From the stock 4.1.1 rom and bootloader you can go straight to 4.3 bootloader and modem, skipping the 4.1.2 (MG2) version. I have personally done this with no ill consequences. After 4.3, install the first bootloader and modem version for 4.4.2, that is NE4. Lollipop will run with the NE4 bootloader. As DocHoliday stated, you can go on the the current bootloader and modem. After NE4 is NJ1. After NJ1 you come to the current bootloader and modem, which is NJ2
If you plan to install the full ROM at each step.
The page you linked to should work if all of the downloads are available. Go from 4.1.1 to 4.3 to 4.4.2 (NE4). If you want the newer versions (NJ1 or NJ2) do them in sequence, do not skip any that are mentioned. Read the instructions on your linked page carefully. If you want NJ1 and then NJ2 they can be found in threads by enewman17, as can NE4 and maybe 4.3. I didn't provide the links so that you will hopefully read the pages carefully after searching and before downloading. Be sure you understand what you are downloading to flash and how it should be used.

Lol, I guess they thought they had to provide it somehow! It's a shame they didn't at least acknowledge enewman17 in their article there, but at least they direct linked to his thread.
Anyway, good luck! And if you have any other questions come up, let us know.
