So I was jumping from Viper to MMuzzy's Carbon build and all of a sudden I am now Voice Roaming. I know I wiped all partitions including formatting the system and I've flashed a multitude of roms and never had this occur before.
I could use some advice on how to repair this. My IMEI has a specific number but my IMEI SV and phone number both show all zeros. I tried doing an RUU and even taking an OTA but still no luck.
Flash stock rooted ROM and stock recovery.
While on stock ROM and recovery, perform a factory reset from settings.
Backup anything important first.
Its the factory reset from stock recovery that will restore the Vzw NV partitions for the radio to function properly again.

No problem, glad to help.
Yeah this is always the best thing to perform if you are having data drop issues, going to 3G often when you know you should have 4G, stuck in roaming with no data, etc..
It doesn't fix any ROM related issues or problems with a Roms ril, etc but it will restore the device to fully functional radios.
Then when you flash back to a known working ROM, you should continue to keep a stable connection, unless as mentioned above, the ROM has its own issues.
Anyhow, glad that sorted you out.

My phone will detect Wifi, and try to connect, but will never connect. It just finds it, goes to "connecting," then "disconnected," then "connecting," then "disconnected," etc.
What did I screw up on my phone? I've tested Wifi using Fresh, CM7, Caulkin's, and the leaked plain gingerbread.
I've flashed 2 different kernels, each has the same result. Not to mention that some of the roms have different kernels already.
I've also downgraded my radio just to see if that would help.
What could I possibly have messed up? I don't get it.
Obviously, I've spent a lot of time like this, and I am, quite honestly, literally insane at this point.
Any help is appreciated.
Later.
Could it be your router that's going bad and not your phone??
Also, try placing a stock sprint rom and go from there
I ran into this as well before with my current ROM Mikfroyo.. the trick for me was just to back up my apps and wipe/reinstall the ROM. If you backup more, be sure to NOT backup the Wifi settings as that may cause the issue to happen again (I've been down this road more than once with my phone because I'm a flashing junkie )
That's the only suggestion I can offer.. sucks but at least for me it fixed my issues with Wifi not connecting.
Good luck!
--edit--
after reading deeper into the OP I guess this might not work as it seems flashing new ROMs didn't help either..

I don't think so, because at home my wireless printer still works, and I can connect an iPad.
I'll flash a stock rom tonight.

I have been using Titanium backup to restore settings, that is a good point. Maybe tonight I'll re-install the router, remove all apps from the Apps2SD, flash a stock ROM, then manually re-install all of the apps from a market.
Sounds like a good Friday night. Blehhh.....
If your using cwm to flash wipe all 3 times each then when you restore apps do apps only not system data. Somewhere your introducing info back into the rom that's confusing it.did you back up your wimaxx keys before you flashed your radio?

No, but cwm and RA both do that for you now, right? Plus, I can still connect to 4G, so the wimax keys should be there.
But that's a question I can't find the answer to- does the radio have anything to do with connecting to WiFi?
Well cwm doesn't do a good job at cleaning dalvik cache. You've got to manualy wipe 3 times to make sure. Your not using rom manager are you? What version of clockeork you using?

I use ROM manager. What's wrong with it?
I'm using 3.0.0.5
Don't use rom managet it causes to many problems. Go into recovery and wipe system data facrory reset, then go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache 3 times each then flash your rom. Your issues will go away.
sent from my morse code machine!
You should go into rom manager and flash other recovery re. That's amon re its more stable than cwm.

Sounds more like your wireless router is the issue. Just because your other devices connect, doesn't rule out your router. Try to connect to a different wireless router and see if that works.
i am also having this same issue, and i cant find an answer to it.. but i will try giving it a shot with amon ra recovery and manually clearing dalvik cache n data.
Hey Sprockethead try using this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339654, it's known to work for a LOT of people here... Like the others have mentioned I think it might have to do something with not wiping properly... You can still flash your CWM recoveries with this one.
Before I backed up my stock rom and flashed my current one (PACman) I updated my profile just to make sure that I was good to go for a while.
Does the profile updates/PRL updates done in stock stay once you wipe everything and flash a new rom? I'm wondering because I don't get quite the signal strength that I did in PACman that I did on stock and I have no way of updating my profile inside of PACman. But, if profile updates don't stick after a wipe, what good does it do to go back & forth?
I really wish a dev would come out with an apk for each major carrier to update profiles.
Yes it does stay. When changing modems you should update again though.

So, just restore back to my stock backup with my current modem and update...then, restore back to my PACman rom backup?

Can't Update Profile
I just recently installed a JB 4.2.2 ROM from rootbox and have been unable to get my profile to update, so in turn have been unable to connect to 3G. When I got to About Phone -> Sprint System Updates the update profile option dials *22805 which never activates my phone. It just dials the Sprint customer support number.

Well, I just flashed my recovery and it won't boot past the S2 logo now. Did I miss something?
Okay, more questions!
I tried restoring my nandroid I made after rooting/kernel/ICS modem and it appears to restore correctly in CWM and then it won't get past the S2 splash screen. I did it first without wiping/factory reset and it was a no go, and then I was duh...and wiped/factory reset then restored the stock nandroid...still no go.
What am I doing wrong? In the meantime, I just restored a PACman nandroid and that went just fine and I can use my phone again.
I've been trying to find the answer myself, but the only thing I've found is that the stock recovery has to be restored on the same version of CWM it was created on. How do I do this since CWM updated itself to v6?

You flashed the EL26+CWM kernel to make the original nandroid correct? then just flash that kernel (with PC or mobile odin, doesn't matter) and then restore the nandroid.
BUT, you can skip this if you want to stay on PACman. @bilgerryan has an app somewhere in the forum that attempts to add the sprint update functionality back in to AOSP. Almost everything is broken (including PRL write and Update PRL OTA), but Profile update works without a hitch.
ALSO, take a look at the gps link in my sig. I have a link in my OP there for how to set up multiboot on the Epic Touch. That way you can multiboot into EL29 to do things like GPS lock, PRL update, Profile update, dialer codes, etc.

Okay. Yeah, i want to stay on PACman but only need to update my profile to help my signal. Okay, I will try to find that app. My PRL is up-to-date so yeah...all I need to do is update my profile, but I'm with Virgin mobile. However, I did flash the FL24 modem (sprint). This will update my profile with VM?
I decided to just try your first fix where I reflash the EL26+CWM5 kernel and flash stock nandroid. After I'm done updating things and want to go back to PACman...I simply reflash the PACman zip (to get back my PACman specific kernel) and once restore flash a backup to get all my apps & things back, right?

Well, that didn't work for me. :/ I reflashed the EL26+CWM5 kernel in mobile odin and then restored the stock nandroid. This gave me the S2 splash screen and just sat there. So, I guess I have to find that app you spoke of.
Okay, I found it, and followed all of the instructions to the "T" and when I click on Sprint System Updates, it simply makes a phone call to Sprint with a voice menu. :/
Update: Okay, I see it is also in the app drawer, but the only thing that currently works is the MSL retrieval.
Sigh...
Download the kernel or the rom and just flash over your restore. Your eecovery is bundled with a gingerbread kernel. So the backup you made is trying to run a gingerbread kernel. Wont work. If you flash the rom over your nandroid it will boot. You will have all system setting restored though. It sucks. But it worka.

I'm feeling a bit dumb now...
I don't quite understand the first part of what you are saying. I do understand that my nandroid cannot run without the GB kernel I made it with. So, I did reflash the GB kernal with mobile odin and then went into CWM and restored the nandroid...still didn't work.
Am I misunderstanding?
Yes. After restoring the nandroid flash whatever rom you were on again. Do not wipe. So I believe you are restoring pacman. After your restore pacman. Use the same recovery, and flash the same pacman rom again. Basically you just need the pacman kernel. Not sure if there is a aseperate kernel somewhere. But flashing the rom over top without wiping anything will restore the kernel back to what its supposed to be.

Oh. Hmmm. But I made the stock nandroid with the EL26 kernel. I don't need that one in order to successfully recover my stock nandroid?
I think we are talking about two different things. I am NOT able to restore my stock nandroid. It gets stuck at the S2 splash screen.
Okay, new approach...
Recommended TouchWiz based ROM that I can update PRL in?
Went from NoWizAOSPMod to Illusion Rom, and reverted back to NoWiz due to no 4G or working GPS, however now I can't get 4G or any GPS signal on NoWiz? I did a clean flash of Illusion(Factory Reset, Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache). Any clue where I went wrong?

Try going back to the TW ROM, get a gps fix and LTE then immediately dial ##72786#. This will cause the Hands free Activation to run which will update your PRL and Profile. Verify that gps and LTE are still working then you should be able to restore your AOSP and both gps and LTE should stick after the restore. That's how it worked for me.

If I boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik (I fix permissions too, although this probably isn't necessary), then it boots right up like nothing is wrong with no fanfare.
If I'm lucky, this will even persist for an additional reboot. Otherwise on subsequent reboots it just bootloops forever until I go back to recovery and wipe cache/dalvik again, and then it boots right up again. Once into the ROM, everything runs fine, no issues at all.
I've tried rolling back a nightly or two but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Was there some major change in the last few weeks that I missed? How far do I need to roll back to get this to work?
It's my gf's tablet so I don't really want to wipe data if I can avoid it. Was even thinking of dirty flashing up to CM11.
Any insight is appreciated.
With my phone this problem ended up being using the wrong baseband version for the ROM/kernel that I was using. I was able to fix it by resetting it back to stock using ODIN (tool which can be used to recover Samsung devices) but from the sounds of it you have no such luxury.
Do you have any backups of when everything worked? If not try to find a way to get back to stock however you can. Aside from that make sure that you are using the correct ROM for your hardware.
Good luck and keep us updated.

The kindle is wifi only, so I don't think there are any baseband issues. Will update when/if I fix it.
Restoring to stock is a good idea. It's been over a year since this thing was stock, so it's quite possible we missed a firmware update or something.

UPDATE - I dirty flashed cm11 and gapps as if I were updating any other nightly, and the issue appears to be gone. So freaking annoying, lol.
Running AOKP KK 4.4.2, I made a full backup of my system using CWM Recovery 6.0.4.7. I reinstalled stock ROM 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 to check for upgrades. (Sony removed all 4.3 upgrades for the C6506.
After that, I reflashed the boot.img, and restored my backup. On boot, the cell signal was "No Service". Looking at status, no Baseband, No IMEI, and no service.
Only way around it was to restore the stock ROM and then do a clean install of AOKP. I have been unable to restore a CWM backup.
I had my charger plugged in during both backup and restore. While I did read there was a bug with CWM and chargers, before I try this again, does anyone here have a suggestion or workaround? Be a shame not to be able to use Backup/Restore.
Thank you.
I have same issue after restoring back obtained by CWM for AOKP ROM 4.4 kitkat network is lost......best way is to restore the backup first and get all the data and apps in place .....................
And then dirty flash the AOKP ROM zip and gapps you will get the network back.
This will get you all your apps and data back ...some of the data is lost like progress in temple run so also back up all apps and data by Titanium backup. Apps can also be restored with data if something is missing.

Seems awful kludgy. I am glad to know there is a problem, but this workaround is good to know. I still think the bug portends something more serious. For example, I lose my home screen settings (I only backup user apps). Oh well.
Thanks and keep posted if you learn more.

Sony only publishes open source AOSP for the 6XX3 models. The 6502, 6503, and 6506 have identical hardware except for radio frequencies supported. So any AOSP flavor will cause slight loss of functionality in terms of frequencies covered.
I tried reflashing just the baseband after this issue. It did not help. For me (although I did not try the dirty flashing method yet), the only thing that worked was to reinstall clean AOKP on top of clean Sony Firmware. Anything with a backup and restore resulted in no baseband/IMEI.
When I do a restore I always do a full wipe first, then install system (+ gapps if wanted), then restore data only. Maybe this would work?!
THAT is a good suggestion
