Should I warranty or try another ROM? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I bought my n7 LTE in early December 2013. I'm running Sinless ROM on it. Today these spots showed up on the screen. What do you recommend? Warranty with Google or ASUS or try another ROM first to see if it goes away? Crap, tried to show a screenshot but the spots dont show. I'll see if I can get a pic from my phone of it.

The pink dots are not reflection from background light. Any ideas?

I decided to RMA with Google. Cant live with these dots. Maybe the replacement will not have the touch issue im experiencing on this device. I will say, never another ASUS for me. Hopefully, Google goes with Samsung for another nexus device. Never had any problems with any Samsung device.

You will get a replace. All manufacturers have problems. Samsung had always bad batteries in my experience. The only one I didn't had problems with was HTC but their update policy is terrible. I think I will stick with Google devices no matter what manufacturer is.

In this case, it was clearly a hardware issue as the issue was persisting on the boot logo. Next time you have a concern though, definitely try a different ROM first. Eliminate all possible causes before sending it in for repair, or you'll be stuck waiting for the RMA process.

Screen defects

I recently purchased a n7 and upon opening the box I noticed the issues with the bevel on the glass. The screen seems to be operating properly so it seems to be mostly aesthetic, but I'm was curious if this defect with the glass was common and I should hold onto this otherwise fine device or if this is fair uncommon and I should take advantage of the return policy.

80+ views and not a single nexus 7 owner can confirm or deny the presence of defects on their personal devices. Thanks for the input guys.

Is this comment necessary? This isn't a very busy forum so sometimes it can take a while for questions to get answered.
That said, my N7 doesn't have this problem. I am the type of guy who will keep exchanging a device until I get one that's flawless. If I were in your situation that's exactly what I would do.
Maybe it's some refurbished model with changed screen or something, but it's definitely uncommon issue.

Is this backlight bleed, and can it be fixed?

Hi everyone,
The blue streaks have actually been there a few weeks now, but the red one just appeared. Can something like this be fixed; aside from lcd replacement?
Thank you

Okay perhaps not backlight bleed, more like stuck pixels. I've run the various stuck pixel tools for a couple days now, to no avail. Guess I just have to put up with it. Cheapest replacement lcd I've found is $40.
Has no one else experienced this with their Nexus 7?
Nope, looks like a damaged lcd. I expect there has been pressure applied to it or something. My best bet is that you cannot fit this with any software.

Yeah that appears to be the case. Well it's def out of warranty, guess I'll just nurse it along till the Nexus 7 2016 (assuming it actually is) comes out.

OS freezes after adjusting sound, system gets buggy

Hi y'all, i recently ordered a T-mobile version of the G3 online. Opened the package and booted it up. Everything worked out of the box but then i noticed something. No sound! I tried adjusting the volume settings then it froze. Did some glitch that it load parts of the screen and go back to swipe to unlock. After which a factory reset made the Marshmellow OS run stable again. It is likely a hardware issue, perhaps damage to the part of motherboard. Microphone doesn't work and there are no sounds at all. How could i tell where malfunction is on the main board/chip? I would appreciate a suggestion on what could be done about this issue. [emoji20]

Send it to an engineer in hardware because you may broke some importants parts and explain hin the problem. Is the best option.

Your right - an engineer will be able to pin point what kind of damage has been done and where on the chipboard.

HTC 10 Sprint Screen touch position incorrect

Hello everyone!
So the top 3/4" of my HTC 10 stopped working about 4 months into owning the phone. I tried getting HTC to replace/repair my device, but I forgot to reset it to stock before I sent it in and they decided my warranty was now void and the logic board replacement would run me $350+. I've been using the device for over a year now by using gestures as a workaround.

I had been researching ways to change the positioning of the screen down so I could use it more or less as normal.
I came across the overscan command in ADB. I shifted the screen down to 0,300,0,0 and to my surprise the screen did the exact same thing as it was before I added the margin, just lower down the LCD.
With this I figure the problem must be a software issue instead of a hardware issue as HTC originally implied.
I am currently running ResurrectionRemix 5.8.3 although I have tried several roms and they all produce the same problem.
Is there a way to adjust the digitizers margins so that my touch will line up correctly?
It may be worth noting that when I touch the "dead" area, it does register the touch just under where I'm actually pressing.
Any and all help will be very appreciated.

HTC 10 Screen Defect?

What is happening to my phone!? I dont even know how to search for this. The LCD still works fine. Touch works fine. Its almost like something is separating internally causing a contrast difference in this odd, blotchy pattern among the pixels. A white screen shows the issue the best. Less back light makes it harder to detect. It was just slightly noticeable in the upper corner 24 hours ago.... now its 20 times worse! I got this phone from Verizon the day it came out. It is unlocked using Sunshine and running Viper10 and has been since I got it unlocked. Cant imagine that has anything to do with this though...
Has anyone else ever seen this or know what it is or what causes it??? I am at a loss here.

Wow, not one response in almost 2 weeks... Has no one ever seen this before on any device!?
As strange as this was, whats even stranger is that the phone has healed itself! The screen is now 100% back to normal. I have no ideas what happened, but ill take it!
That's awkward
