On my Galaxy Tab 3 (8 Inch) Whenever I set a profile (Screen off, go into conservative kernel for example), my Tab literally freezes. When I turn the screen back on and swipe the animation moves slightly then freezes and my Tab gets completely stuck(Have to force restart). Are screen off profiles or profiles in general not compatible with the GTab 3? :crying:

Update, after setting profiles in ROM Toolbox it seems to work fine, avoid SetCPU if you can. Seems to be incompatible.

+1 here with setcpu issue on Tab3
Overclocked to 1900 and cpu runs on highest frequency all the time no matter what you choose in setcpu settings...too bad, worked great on xoom

I've not had great luck with Set CPU. If I am going to OC I try to use whatever is baked into the ROM.

I currently use ROM TOOLBOX and it does the job too bad had to buy new cpu overclocking tool when switched devices . . .
Do you too, have high cpu usage with only few apps on ? Think samsung apps takes a lot cpu ?
Today some strange things happens with the screen - tab turns off themscreen itself ,
-happend when layed down tje tablet on the desk (twice)
-happend when unused for a minute (screen is set to turn off after 10min)
Do or did you have similar behaviours?

It's probably being caused by a widget that is set to update, so remove one widget at a time until you find the culprit.
widget on my screen just have bookmarks calendar music and powercontrol
Could also be related to how your kernel is tuned - if you're forcing lower CPU freqs or hotplugging processor cores with screen off, it may be taking it a moment to get everything fired back up. Try disabling any SetCPU profiles and using the default kernel governor to see if that makes a difference.
Most likely a rogue app hogging resources, in which case work your way through them until you find the culprit.
Unless you are rooted and underclocking it with the screen off like the guy above described.

I don't think it causes that much lag, but try turning off auto brightness.
Also check your SetCPU (or Settings > Rom Control > Performance) settings to make sure your CPU clock speed isn't capped low.

So I just got my galaxy S3 sgh-i747, I have rooted it, installed a custom kernel (ktoonsez Sammy kernel) and installed the pro version of setCPU.
The problem I am having is that even though I set an overclock limit to 1674 mHz, setCPU will occasionally boost it to 1890 for no apparent reason. This causes my phone to heat up immensely and renders it unstable.
I have also tried profiles (one for screen on, other for screen off) yet even with the profiles and notifications I get, the app still acts up. I am wondering if the widget and the app are just glitchy and displaying those speeds but not really setting the CPU at that level...
Here are some screenshots for clarification:
Edit: Sigh.. I cannot post screenshots..
But basically in my screens I show that the slider is set to a max of 1674 yet in another screenshot it shows that my time spent at 1890 mhz is 40%.... yikes
Has anyone experienced this before? How would I go about fixing this?
Thanks for any help!

Try voltage control, it's what ktoonsez recommends for his kernel and works like a champ for me.

You running old version of sammy kernel ? get newest 8-15b , i to use setcpu and have no such problems , very early versions of his kernel did that.
Post a link to the new kernel...8-11 buikd is fine setcpu and system tuner is the best 2 there is imo

so the Galaxy Nexus has a dual core 1.2ghz TI Omap right? thats 2 cores running at 1.2ghz each? or are the clockspeeds split between the cores?
using Kernel Tuner to manage my CPU speed i noticed that when i exit the CPU tab CPU1 goes offline until i hit CPU1 on/off. nice feature to be able to turn it on or off on the fly, but why isnt it on by default?
then after a while, even set to Performance mode and no matter what i set, my clockspeeds drop by half and fluctuate as if i have the governor set to Ondemand and again with only CPU0 activated slowing my phone down immensely!
im currently running Axi0m with Fancy Kernel but have noticed this on the included kernel and in EOS and SlimBean too.
its really annoying to watch Need for Speed Most Wanted fps drop gradually while racing, or even Into The Dead
is this my phone acting up or is this actually a Deep Sleep feature?

This may be an app compatibility issue. From the market Application officially supports only HTC EVO 3D GSM/CDMA, however it might also work on other devices. Try a different app, Trickster Mod perhaps.

This could be the app too. Performance governor should never fluctuate in speed. It should lock in at the top speed you have set, and never change from there. It could also be that you have something with profiles that changes your speeds/governors when certain requirements are met (under 50% battery underclock and use on demand governor).

There are settings and governors that do disable a core when sleeping, or when not needed in hopes of saving battery. Most don't come with this enabled by default, as there are some folks that run into stability issues with those options.

your right, Kernel Turner is "officially" only supported by HTC EVO 3d. ive used it on a bunch of other phones and never ran into any problems, like my Samsung Intercept and Evo Shift even an Exhibit 4g. will give Trickster Mod a go
by chance do you know if Axi0m rom has only 1 core enabled by default? i had noticed these sames fluctuations in it's built in CPU controller BEFORE i installed Kernel Tuner. actually this was the REASON i installed Kernel Tuner
also i dont have any profiles or apps set up to govern my CPU frequencies. literally have have 4 games, TerrariaHB and Kernel Tuner lol.
ok ive played around with it a little bit and still having the frequencies drop to 537 even with Trickster Mod, both cores are saying offline and i set frequency lock.
i had my phone set to 806mhz Performance, played with it for a few, come back and...well?
here it is AGAIN after just sitting there and clicking apply doesnt change it! i have to change the frequency then click apply and it does, but it only seems to for a few minutes
-_- im an idiot...
"Max Screen Off"
You will press v under status bar for apply with setting otherwise you will never stay at the same set than before
For apply at boot use settings > apply at boot
Don't use performance, it's useless and deprecated, use interactive instead

Then your phone is staying or jumping to max frequency 1200MHz too often. Make sure whichever app you are using to control your CPU settings has minimum frequency set to 312MHz, if that's not an issue, change your governor (I'm using "Interactive" governor at the moment). Governors handle how often your frequency will jump to the next higher frequency. You can find out about each governor available in our phone by a simple search on google
If you don't have a CPU settings app, you can try No-Frills CPU Control - one of the most common apps for CPU control, with a clean and basic interface

Above method would work regardless of stock or custom ROM, you just need root.
Alternatively, you can try using one of the RAM/Memory cleaners that don't require root to clean the running processes to keep your RAM empty. If there aren't too many processes using your CPU, there shouldn't be any reason for it to get hot :fingers-crossed:

Hi,
I have a rooted sm-p600. I have been finding ways to speed up my tablet and reduce (if not totally eliminate) the lag.
First, I installed wanam xposed module and enabled/disabled the "touchwiz DVFS" option and "Enable boost mode" option. I don't know if it makes any difference and I'm not totally sure either what that option is for. So if anyone could tell me if I should enable/disable it, that'll be great,
Second, I tried to use an overclocking app, "no-frills cpu" and "cpu tuner". I know that I actually have to have a custom kernel which enables overclocking but I really didn't need to overclock my tablet, I just basically want to keep my min and max frequencies to 1.9 so that means, it won't try to underclock my cputo save battery (which the kernel is doing by default). It works great and it DID eliminate the lag and the tablet was so snappy. But there's one glitch. If I lock the tablet, it fails to wake up. And I had to do a forced reboot. But there's one thing I've noticed and this may be of help to someone who is trying to figure out how to eliminate the known lag issue in the note 10.1 (2014). It only hangs if the tablet is not charging. Meaning, if I set the max and min frequencies to 1.9ghz, it hangs (once locked) if the tablet is not plugged into the charger. If I plug it into the charger, even if I lock it and unlock it several times, it doesn't hang.
So, anybody got any clue as to how to resolve this issue? Or has anyone come up with a better kernel for this tablet?
Try setting the min to 1.3 ghz see what that does or try using flux to set min Max and memory read times to 3072 or whatever the value is I forget. Play around with the settings and I'm sure you will find a better more stable experience. I don't know how having two quad cores affects the performance maybe that's why you getting the black screen and no wake on battery. It might have to tick over the lower quad first before it kicks in the main one. Might be taxing the battery to much clocking straight to 1.9. Hope this helps let me know how you get on

Which overclocking app are you referring to? I would assume you're talking about "cpu tuner" as the other app I've mentioned in my initial pose which is "no-frills cpu control" doesn't have any other settings besides the min and max frequency.
GOOD NEWS though! I got cpu tuner to work! I did lower the min frequency to 1.8ghz and kept max at 1.9ghz. Actually, there are only 3 selectable values for both fields, it's 250mhz, 1.8ghz and 1.9ghz. I gave 1.8ghz a try, locked the tablet, it froze, then I restarted it. The settings were reapplied when I logged back in, then after that it never froze again even after I've locked it a few times. The performance is excellent! I tried running multiple apps on pen window. I've never seen it perform this well since I bought this tablet! Let's see if it works well in a few days.

Yeah best to try flux123 kernal app on the playstore you can set a lot more in there. Works like a treat on my s4. Set it to 1.3 and 1.9. I'll post some more settings to try later. All I've got is nova launcher and disabled as much blout that I don't use. Not yet rooted on my tablet but just doing them two simple things makes a ton of difference. As you rooted you could use root uninstaller to remove touchwiz and other stupid startup processes. I did it last week on my tab 8.0 got rid of 12 pointless processes now that flys wouldn't even think it was the tablet. Can't wait for a oc kernel and decent rom for the note 10.1 will come into its own then. To bad Samsung killed it with all there unneeded rubbish .

At this point, I don't really mind the slight degrading of the battery life, I just want the tablet to be snappier.
By the way, I installed faux123, but it seems that I cannot change the settings. Like when I try to drag the min frequency slider to 1.3ghz, it slides back to 250mhz. Also, all of the other settings I set revert back to the original settings after I reboot. I have enabled the "set on boot" options on all screens, but they all just revert back to original settings on reboot. Am I missing something?

Just came back to check for anymore help I could give and the best thing I can advice is clean rom. Fly's with nova launcher but still haven't got any kernals to take advantage of flux yet which sucks abit but trust me you won't be disappointed by clean rom if you haven't already got it on your tab don't waste another second
