Can someone reccomend a custom kernel for Deb? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I'm hardly new at flashing roms and kernels, but I'm having no luck finding a ROM and custom kernel combo that works for my n7 deb model. On my N5 I'm running beanstalk with francos kernel, but that combo will not boot on my n7...can you guys reccomend a kernel for Deb running 4.4.2? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Try Glitch kernel if you want to play around with overclocking etc.
Bricked if you want a smooth kernel that doesn't really need to be configured.
Never tried Faux.

Paranoid android kernel and adding diff kernels

Hey guys, running paranoid 2.53 on my Verizon nexus. I have read all the stories before getting the phone that batt life is not great. Agreed. So I wanted to play around as I have never changed kernels before.
One thing I was wondering is what type of kernel is included in this ROM. Another thing is I got the Franco kernel updater. I have been reading for days on xda and such what a kernel does, how, why and such but I haven't found any answers regarding Franco or lean kernel w pa 2.53. Can I just DL and flash right from the app or is there a process to get a new kernel and which do u guys prefer. I want battery life over perf but I don't want a sluggish phone. Is there also a way to backup my stock kernel other than a complete nandroid. Would I backup boot and the system image. Im using twrp 2321
Thanks for any Advice and thoughts

[Q] Can Any Kernel Work With Any Rom?

Hi I am new to rom and kernel flashing, and I am interested in flashing the ElementalX 1.1 kernel on AOKP. I love AOKP, and I am way interested in the swipe-to-wake and double-tap-to-wake features of ElementalX 1.1.
What kinds of things do I need to know about compatibility between kernels and Roms? Can you typically use any kernel with any rom?
Loving the Nexus experience and looking forward to learning more!
They often can but not always.
Android versions need to match.
Usually you can flash any kernel on any ROMs but if its a CM based ROM and you flash a custom kernel then slimport features sometimes don't work or some times you flash a custom kernel then the boot animation gets cut and turns black it doesn't really matter I have done lots of flashing and I would say that every kernel can be a flashed with any ROM without problems I am currently on CM kang and using kernel elemental x and everything runs smooth..hope this help click thankksss
Don't just slap any kernel to your device you might seriously brick it.....learned this lesson when I had an Atrix4G.....

Nexus devices are different then the Atrix4G. You can not seriously brick it by flashing an incompatible kernel. Even having no kernel will not prevent you from accessing the bootloader and recovery.

Kernel help

Hello everyone. I recently rooted my SGS3 and flashed the Dandroid ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121506
It uses a stock kernel, and I would like to use a different Kernel, one that is overclocked with excellent battery life. However, I am not familiar with kernels and how they work. I am not sure which Kernels I am able to use with this particular rom. I do not want to brick my device, I would like some recommendations on a few Kernels that are compatible with this ROM. Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone
This was a very simple question, no one can help ?

looking for a good kitkat rom for elementalX kernel

Hey xda developers!
So guys i was really taken in by the ElementalX kernel and all the hard work that put into that project. I am in need of a rooted rom that is based on Android Kit Kat (4.4+).
Now i have tried putting the ElementalX kernel on Cyanogenmod 11 (nightly build 4.4.2) on my Nexus 7 2013 32GB wifi only model FLO build KRT16S but the kernel made the ROM for the most part unstable. After flashing the elementalX kernel on CM11 (wiped dalvik/cache) i would get this ugly blue color and blocks on black and pink on my N7 screen and then 3-4 minutes Cyanogenmod 11 would boot up. Now i can tell the kernel took because all of my icons changed color and i checked the kernel in settings
However, after flashing the ElementalX kernel on CM11 it was very very laggy. I have tried for the most part all options...
I tried low settings high settings, and all stock options which all ended in the same result -> laggy.
Okay so if Cyanogenmod 11 is not a good candidate for ElementalX (most likely was my fault but moving on) can one of you great guys or gals please let me know what KitKat based ROM you are using with your ElementalX kernel?
Requirements for ROM:
very simple...
has to be pre-rooted
has to be Kit Kat based
I really appreciate any input or advice you can offer me...
Also what settings are you using for your Nexus 7 with your ElementalX ROM?...
Maybe its just how i am setting up my kernel but i did try almost every option for Cyanogenmod 11 which is why i want to try and start testing other Kit Kat Based Roms.
Thank you all so much for your time and your assistance...

CleanROM is a very good ROM to try before trying any others. It does not have a ton of features, actually very few, but it is fast and stable.
A lot of people run CR with ElementalX. (I do). It's the kernel that the CR dev recommends.
I also like Sinless ROM which has lots more options. But if this is your first custom ROM start with CLeanROM. The people in the CR Thread are very helpful if when you have questions.

[Q] Custom Kernel

I currently have a galaxy s2 (sgh-t989) and am running the newest Kit kat Pac rom nightly. The kernel for the PAc rom build does not support overclocking or voltage control adn I would like to install a custom kernel to allow these features. Does anyone have any suggestions for a custom kernel. Searching on google is not that straight forward for finding a custom kernel.
As far as I understand I will need a kernel that is supported both by the kit kat pac rom and my device and kernels meant for Jellybean won't work. All of the kernels that I have tried to install so far including all of the ones on the xda website have only resulted in boot loops anadvice d I have tried installing them with both the Clock work recovery and TWRP recovery. No success. I'm not sure if this is a function of the PAC rom not supporting custom kernels or if I am just not using the correct kernel.
If anyone has any advice for it would be greatly appreciated. Finding kernels is not that straight forward

I'm sorry to inform you that the Pac ROM does not allow installation of any other kernels. You will have to switch ROMs if you want OCing.
