Backup your note 8.0 and then do a factory reset, test with the troubling video. If it still flickers then there may be an issue with the video. I have seen so many videos created with odd sets of parameters during encoding. Though they work on PC, they have issues with playback.

OK, I have 4.2.2 as well.. Never gives me issues with playback, both with factory load or flashing, right now I am back to factory ROM.
I guess you may have a hardware issue, I would contact Samsung and have them service it. There are millions of these, and at 1% error, somebody is bound to get one that is defective.

Hello XDA, you guys are my last resort. No pressure though, lol. PLEASE help before I go completely insane! :silly:
Device:
T-Mo SGH-T999 w/completely stock JB 4.1.1
Phone was serviced by Samsung for this issue two weeks ago and was sent back to me saying "Problem found: RX AUDIO - SPEAKER Solution: REPLACED COMPONENT".
Issue:
Static-like/crackling noise from the speaker or headset/headphones
When issue occurs:
Playing music through the stock music player
Viewing movies in MX Player with H/W audio enabled(but ok with S/W audio)
Any kind of streaming audio
Playing some games with background music
However, no issues with call audio. No issues with notification sounds unless they are .mp3 based. Also, PowerAmp or Winamp fixes the issue with mp3 audio. Can use stock 5.0.5 player as long as file format is .wma or .ogg(haven't tested any other codecs).
Things I've tried so far with no effect:
Power cycling
Taking the battery out waiting two minutes and putting it back in
Copying music to different SD cards and internal storage
Factory restore
Turning various settings on and off, including CPU and stock governors
I've searched a ton on XDA, and elsewhere, and only saw one other useful thread on this topic in the i9300 section. The only solution I gathered from reading ~100 pages was a custom kernel. Might that work in my situation?
Any audio guru's with ideas what might be going on here?
Questions:
Why do different codecs seem to affect this issue?
Is this for sure a hardware problem or is there still a chance this could be something in the software?
Is there any solution to this problem other than insisting on a complete replacement?
I'd send it back again but I'm afraid of getting a refurb with other problems. Any advice/help GREATLY appreciated. TIA
Any thoughts?

I would try flashing Stock JB from odin(make sure you check MD5 sum), then after its flashed, perform a factory reset. If that doesn't solve your issue, then its most definitely hardware. I'm thinking it could be a bad update or download though...Get back to me with your results! good luck

Thanks for the response and advice. Sorry, not sure how I forgot to mention in the OP that my first priority before sending the unit back to Samsung three weeks ago was to flash stock UVDLJA, UVALJ4, and UVALH2, with odin 3.07--and...no joy. Hadn't thought to try going all the way back to UVALEM though. So I did that yesterday morning, but the issue still persists.
Went to the T-Mo store during lunch yesterday and requested a replacement. I'm out of ideas and patience.
Still wondering, though, why .wma's, .ogg's and FLACs(didn't think they'd work in stock player... ) work in stock, but not .mp3's. And why .mp3's seem to work in any player I've tested other than stock. Maybe there's some kind of native, internal hardware decoding going on for .mp3's through the stock player that's not present when using 3rd party player's? And on this phone something in that area is broken. I guess it might sadly remain a mystery.
I'll keep the thread updated in the event I ever find a solution to the problem before I send it back, or if I ever hear of a fix, for others that might experience this issue in the future. Thanks again.
UPDATE: Got my replacement on Friday and all the audio-related issues(amongst others) are solved. Phew... So should be a no brainer, but anyone with audio issues of any type, get a replacement!
I had this phone for 5 months now and within that period i'm having this sound issue..when you listen to music after a few mins the sound freezes and also everything that involves audio is silent even phone calls the only to restore back is to restart phone then its OK but after a while it gets back to the problem..I was running the stock 4.1.2 at that time so was thinking of an update so i did upgrade it to 4.3 tru kies but still having the audio problem,i've been doing what others suggested factory reset or wipe cache but this doesn't solve the issue..its really annoying how you missed messages and calls from your bosses if you know what i mean..in fact while i'm doing this post i just finished resetting again my phone..
I've been searching around goggling this issue it seems i'm not the only one having this problem but i failed to look for solutions to this issue so please if you know something i would be very pleased if you may share how to solve it..thanks a lot
I have the same problem

I think this is a motherboard problem already....
from the last few days i am facing frame skipping in video playback (including youtube app, mx player, vlc) , the video lags and skips few frames.
I did a factory reset, installed deodexed version, wiped cache even reinstalled stock but the problem is still there
Anyone with some info please help
thanks in advance
Yeah bro,i am also facing same problem, BTW did u find any solution?
I'm also facing same issue after nougat update,
I have factory reseted my phone, updated all apps and applied system settings (enabled 'FORCE GPU RENDERING), but it doesn't solved my problem.
Yes it's present in stock ROM nougat version. On mm there weren't any such issues.
Sent from my Lenovo P2a42 using Tapatalk
i don't thinks that its a solution
but after flashing the nougat rom through fastboot the problem of stutter has reduced greatly
now it doesn't stutter that often
Any other solutions for this problem?? i have already factory reset it 2 times and i don't want to risk my new device doing fastboot flash :crying:
any solution for this prblm
I updated my phone to 244 and did a factory reset still the problem persisted but the stutter doesn't seem to occur when I keep it in airplane mode. Can anyone try this.
Guys, I guess I figured it out. Turning off the "participate in the Lenovo experience program" in about phone in settings fixed mine. Hope it works out the same for you guys.

Doesn't work for me, had it turned off from the beginning. The problem also applies to alarm sounds for me, they pause for a split of second every 10-15 secs, is it caused by the same thing?
Is this a common problem or only happens to some of the ppl? How can I know this? I bought this phone yesterday and after it consumed 25% of battery overnight I seriously consider returning it The battery was the main reason I purchased it and now is seems not only it doesnt work properly but other stuff is broken...
Did you update the phone to 244. If not then try it and check again. There weren't any other problems for me other than the video stutters.
If the question was for me, then yes, I did update to 244 and did a full wipe afterwards.
Hmm. Guess your only option is to give it to Lenovo service center and make them roll it back to marsh mellow.
Weird Bug!!! Seems it happens only when using Jio sim in nougat. It will not lag when u switch on aeroplane mod...
Same for me, airplane mode solves the stutter issue. Can you confirm that it works OK on other sim cards.
How does this help me with YouTube? I believe that it will not even load without internet? And what is "Jio"?
It's a 4g carrier in India. Btw have you tried airplane mode. We know that you can't use YouTube but try Mx player or vlc for stutters while in airplane mode. We just want to narrow the possibilities.
I bought a Bluetooth headphone yesterday and it seems to get worse. It was then I found out that an app named Android system was draining my battery but is not the actual Android system(check the screenshot).I went to the app manager and force stopped this app and haven't felt any stutters till now.
Edit: Although the app opens up after a while even if you force stop it and the stutters continue. Need to check after freezing it.
Does this problem still exist? Planned to buy this phone today... but meh, thats a dealbreaker.
Does this problem occur on Custom ROMs too? damn ... i want this battery monster.

The phone doesn't have any major problems such as this one on marshmallow at least from what I hear but running it on nougat will make you to face such problems and Lenovo provides a crappy support.
So i havent unlocked my bootloader yet.
And havent had any hardware or phone issues but with the youtube app when i tend to close it down the screen simply freezes and it takes a while to get back normal or a quick reboot helps.. Its actually everytime and doesnt happen elsewhere.. Not even in games.
Anybody facing the same problem or is it just me? I suspect cz of the new aspect ratio youtube is having problems properly rendering with the new screen though..
Let me know anyone with the same issue..
Edit : Problem solved turns out after getting youtube updated and then clearing cache it works normally now.

Hi, so i've been using the Oneplus 5T for a year and just recently it started having issues with lag, making the phone unusable. I tried installing different roms without success(Oxygen OS Open Beta 23, Lineage OS 16, and Oxygen OS 5.1.4) and i have no idea what is causing it. This issue began while i was on the OOS beta 23 and it wasn't rooted, it just started behaving that way suddenly i didn't drop it or anything, also the screen blinks and start doing weird things sometimes. Did anyone had this issue? And what can be causing it? Thanks
Link to a video of my problem: https://youtu.be/17LOiftTf8w
Found the issue. Apparently it's caused by google play services, if i clear the data of the app the phone works fine and as soon as i install something from the store it starts lagging again
I always have this issue after finishing a clean setup on oxygen os beta. One restart for me solves and never returns.
same here

What the hell is that lag issue seriously ??
I was thinking to flash a custom kernel and ROM but would it solve the issue ?
And the issue is completely random as well.
I have the exact same issue. Starts when i download something from playstore, open camera after a while or transfer big files e.g transferring data through oneplus switch. I have tried everything i could and didnt help. Upgrades, downgrades, root, trimming storage, clearing cache etc. Nothing is helping. If anyone finds a solution please tell me too. Really frustrated ?
The problem occured on official ROM but it comes back even on Lineage OS 16 (official too).
Do you think it could be a hardware issue ? If not, how come this problem happens even when flashing an other ROM ?

I had this problem for almost 3 weeks and no fix from Oneplus, so I will buy a new phone.

I had the same issue 2 months ago, I tried everything to fix the problem even did hard reset using oneplus' official program and it didn't work.
I came to a conclusion that it's a hardware issue so I sent my phone to repair and one week later I got my phone back fixed.
I recommend you to do the same if you still have warranty, the whole process took only one week. The customer service is really good.

Maybe try to reset your phone by using MsmDownloadTool, if that doesn't fix your problem then it must be a hardware issue.

The problem is that (not only i lost the warranty) but i'm not from the USA and sending them the phone is kind of hard and expensive, to the point that i think buying a new phone is cheaper. I reached to support anyways but i'm still waiting for a response after 3 days. What did they change on your phone?

I don't know what did they replace I didn't get any information about that. The screen is the same though they didn't change it, my guesses are either it's the motherboard or the motherboard to screen connector (it's called main flex I think, you can get on for about 3$)
