The two devices to which I can compare the wifi performance are a nexus 7 flo and an Lg G2. It seems that areas in my house where I normally get decent signal strength with the other two devices I am barely connected with the tab pro. Is anyone else getting poor wifi performance with this tablet? Maybe I just need to move my surfboard to the center of my house?

Yes very poor... I had the nexus 7 and a note 3 both perfect in my room. This drops and goes from 3 to 0.

I'm hoping that once some developers, hopefully, jump on this device wifi will be one of the issues resolved. Here's hoping it's not hardware related. It's really my only complaint about the device.

So i did some looking around on ye olde interwebs today. There is nothing mentioned anywhere yet concerning this(probably way too early) . I may call Bestbuy tomorrow and ask if they've had any calls/questions/returns related to this.

my wifi has been outstanding. actually better then my gtab was. full bars still on the second floor streaming hulu.
Yea not so much don't even have it in a case and I get like 2 bars where my phone is full bars

So I downloaded Wifi signal strength from the play store. Sitting in the same spot, the signal dbm and linkspeed are reading roughly the same as my G2. Data download speeds on the G2, though, are reading about twice what the tab is seeing. Can anyone explain this? G2 is reading around - 82 to - 86 dbm and tab around - 79 to - 82 dbm.

I just got the Tab Pro 8.4 yesterday and I too am getting very poor connection. I was going to return my Nexus 7 2013 today but I'm having second thoughts now. I love the screen real estate on the Tab Pro but unless I'm in the same room where the router is at I get horrible connection. Both devices running 4.4 but the Nexus 7 has no connection issues. Tried every possible fix to no avail . Other than that I have absolutely NO complaints about this tablet. From screen resolution to performance, this Tab Pro rocks!!!!!!
No WI-FI issues at all
Hello. Iv'e had my tab pro 8.4 2 weeks now absolutely no wi- fi issues at all great signal anywhere in house and outside too.
I have 2 netgear 6300 routers one is used for main network and the other is used as a bridge switch and I have a motorola cable modem which I own system combination works great. My netgear 6300 routers are a,b,g,n and ac if you know what that is.The Samsung Tab Pro .4 is also a,b,g,n and AC capable many other brand tablets are not AC capable I hope you know what AC is.
I suggest you buy some better routers and a seperate modem. Then you will probably have much better wi-fi reception. If you have a modem router combination build in one unit throw it away it will never give you the wi-fi reception you expect unless you are right next to it.

I know a lot about WiFi and it has nothing to do with my equipment. I have an airport extreme new version and also a Linksys bridged upstairs through a power line Ethernet kit. All my devices are fine except this one. Not saying the speed is slow just low signal where other devices are full..... The speed is fine just weak signal

Take it back and exchange it, see if a new one has the same problem.

In my extensive history with Samsung devices, some will show more/less bars than others. But they will achieve the same or similar up/down speeds when tested. A while back I read a post (I think it was on the Sprint S4) by an electrical engineer who actually ran some tests on two devices side by side. IIRC, the result was the devices were receiving the same amount of signal, but one of them showed less bars.
So if you're not noticing lower speeds, it's likely that this device has a higher threshold for showing signal strength in bars.
I've discovered something interesting about the WiFI issues. I too had problems with the WiFi on my Tab Pro 8.4. Most of the time when I woke it up the WiFi would not work and I had to turn it off and on again. Over the weekend I purchased a new Airport Extreme to replace my older one and no I do not have this problem anymore. I am not connected via AC instead of A/B/G or N. I just thought it was interesting.
I have a Galaxy S4 and the Tab Pro 8.4 wifi signal in the same house locations is far weaker. I don't get any signal in house locations where my S4 is fine.

Mine is fine until I hold it from the bottom left corner. I lose close to 18 dBm by holding it from there
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have done some tests using 2 different acces points. (on 6 different locations with variable coverage) (each time 5 tests and took the average)
I compared my S3 with the tab pro and the resulst were very close. (3dBm at most)
I haven't really been paying attention to it before, but for as far as I know wifi is fine here.
BTW: Left bottom corner doesn't make any difference for me.
So a little update. I went and replaced mine and the new unit has the exact same issue.
I live in Canada and we only have the white one available here. Don't know if that makes a difference

I was going to go back to the NEXUS 7 because of the wifi issues but man this tablet is amazing!! So I decided to return it for another device and I guess I must have gotten a lemon for the first one(Which for me, Samsung has always been great), because I have no wifi issues at all . This tablet is by far the best one I've owned, from performance to especially screen resolution!!!
I had my Kindle fire hdx 8.9 and my LG Optimus g pro phone along with the tab pro 8.9 at the hospital and the tab pro could not connect due to signal strenth. Both my phone and the Kindle had no trouble what so ever and happily played Netflix and browsed the web. I am also having an issue where the tab pro disconnects from my wifi and reconnects every so often even in the middle of my using it for games or browsing. Intolerable behavior from a premium tablet.

I have a black 8.4, and I can second your -15 dbm when I hold the bottom left corner. I loaded wifi fixer and can watch the difference...One room away from my router and typically run -53 dbm, but when I hold the tab with my palm covering the bottom corner, I am around -68dbm. Hmmm.... other than that, and coming from the 7.7, I love this tab.

Hello
I currently have a Wifi Router thats going bad, Linksys WRT300N and am Looking to replace it with either a Asus RT AC66-U or a Netgear R6300, several folks steered me away from the Linksys EA6500.
I have no experience with routers and a friend of ours said I should try to post here and hopefully one of the "Seasoned Ops" who is familiar wih routers can guide me.
My ISP unfortunately is Time Warner or Roadrunner and I am using the Stock Pop3 email app that came with the GN2. I am Out of Ohio, and have AT&T LTE. When I go to You Tube I incur Constant and Horrible buffering. It does not ocur if I use the Network or turn wifi off. I am also using the stock browser and will incur some serious Browser Lag or Lockup (freeze) if Im using wifi.
Edit Add: Does the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 support the new 802.11ac ?
Hope someone can help, Thank you in advance

Well, I hate to say it but you won't get a good single answer here because there's simply so many good choices.
I personally use a Netgear WNDR3700 (older N router but fast cpu and rock solid) as well as a Cisco/Linksys 4200.
I'd recommend that you check on the DD-WRT site if you want real solid opinions on routers. They build custom firmware for routers there and you will find real information on practical use for most if not all of the wireless routers currently available and you can probably ask their opinions as well.
Also check big online retailers for very well reviewed routers. Sites like Newegg and even Amazon. If a router has hundreds of reviews and most are positive then you have a pretty good bet it's going to be a good choice.
The post above me is correct you will get tons of responses of wifi routers...I can narrow down something for ya though.... Tey to get a DUAL BAND router one that has 2.4 ghz and 5ghz ...Since are devices will pick up either or of both bands..5ghz in theory is faster then 2.4 ghz.....I use a Belkin N600 dual band router and I dont have any issues whatsoever....Am constantly hooked up to it..And is extremely fast even with the kids using there ipods touches. There on 2.4 while im on 5ghz...
I have two separate logins in I named one 2.4 and the other 5.0 so I can switch between them..seems the 2.4 gets alittle better reception farther away then 5 ghz frequency in my opinion. ..
I use a Linksys EA3500 and if works flawlessly for me. I have been having it for a year now with absulotely no problems. Here are the specs for it.
Model: Linksys EA3500
Technology: Wireless-N
Bands: Simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
Transmit/Receive: 2 x 3 for 2.4 GHz, 3 x 3 for 5 GHz
Antennas: 6 Internal
OS Compatibility: Windows, Mac
Software Setup: CD Install
Ethernet Ports x Speed: 4 x Gigabit
Cisco Connect Software: Yes, App Enabled
USB Port: Yes, Shared Storage and Virtual US
If you can afford the EA 4500 or EA6500 they should be a little better, but the es 3500 should be sufficient for what you are trying to acheive.
Stay away from anything that has WPS. The Linksys devices won't let you turn it off, at least they didn't 6 months ago. 5Ghz has more bandwidth, but a shorter range at the same dBm as 2.4Ghz. The higher the frequency, the more bandwidth, but the shorter the range. Currently rocking one of these guys. Until I got the Note I only had one device that could do 5Ghz, so I'm still on 2.4.
Personally, I want one of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320091
But I'm also an if it ain't broke don't fix it kind of guy, and I don't have any problems with my current router

I'm on Charter...
I have the Linksys AC1750...and love it. It's was pricey (just out) when I bought it..but have now come down in price...I can say since owning it and using it it has worked flawlessly and has the best through put on it of all the routers I have tried and can be used with a NAS and Apple products as well..Why someone is trying to tell you not to look at them is beyond me...
I tried several Net gear routers and even a WNDR 4500 but not the ASUS brands and none of the Net Gear's impressed me at all and all caused all kinds of drop outs and connectivity issues with my system.
Cisco routers have always done a better job for me and all play nice with my Cisco AT&T micro tower...which is important in my 4 story home...with my Note II and 3 family members using all of their Apple gear..The 3g signal sucks to say the least...
While the ASUS top tiered routers do have a little higher throughput...the AC1750 will hold it's own and is NFC ready when the feature is finally fully implemented in our phones..and gives me top speed where ever I am in the house...and carries well outside too. I have strong wi-fi signals where I never had them before outside...which makes it very nice.
Mac
Nvm, derped
+1 on DD-WRT firmware.
I'm using a few different Linksys N routers wired together as repeating access points and their all using DD-WRT firmware, and everything connects with no problems at all. Running speedtest on my phone gives me full cable speed at 20Mbps, and just about no hiccups browsing.
One recommendation is to set a reboot schedule on the routers. Once in a while the router would drop my cable bandwidth. Restarting the router brings it back to full speed.
Best router I've ever owned

MAC,
Thank you for the reply. Several folks have said the EA6500 by Linksys Cisco is getting really bad reviews. I have NO experience with Routers, and Im having horrible problems with th present one I have. Unfortunately the firmware cant be upgraded, and it appears that all the wifi issues Ive had to date across 4 different phones has been router related. I constantly get No Connection Warnings, when you hit the okay tab, it goes back to normal, or Ill have the stock browser lock up, freeze or there are huge lags. If I power Cycle the Router things are fine for a little bit and then the chain of events reoccur.
Im going to re-look at the Linksys EA6500 again. Thanks, any further help you can give or advice will be appreciated. Also do you know if the Note2 supports the 802.11ac?
Thank you
Larry

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it happens on any rom and doesn't happen with 3g or wifi.
My wife's l900 is having the same issue. Wiped system in twrp & flashed new rom & the issue remains.
No issues here. I live about 30 minutes outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I was still using my Evo LTE when I got LTE in my area. Didn't have the problem before the tower upgrade, during or after. Since LTE became live in my area, the entire surrounding area is now fully blanketed in LTE!! I'm finally living Sprint again, have been for about 8 months now. Anyway, where I was going with that is that in none of the LTE areas I go through do I have that issue. Even when in a bad area and my phone switches back to 3G, then back to LTE, or when I switch from Wifi to LTE, I never have that issue. I can confirm this for my Note 2, Evo LTE, and my girlfriend's S3.
Are they still upgrading the towers where you're having this issue? Maybe it's due to work they are currently doing. I know when the tower by my house was getting upgraded, my 3G speeds plummeted to pathetic speeds! Even still, pictures would render fine, just took longer than normal.
Also, I'm assuming you're meaning that even once the picture is done rendering of all looks bad, not just while it's rendering. Correct?

Thanks for asking, I am LOVING it!!! I believe this is my favorite Android phone so far!! Used it for almost a week stock, not even rooted! That's by far the longest I have ever gone without rooting and flashing! Well, the longest I've gone when there was the ability to root anyway. I usually buy phones on launch day, and have to wait a little bit before a root exploit is found. Have to wait MUCH longer for s-off on HTC phones!! This is actually the latest after launch that I have bought a phone since..... I don't even remember really, back in the WinMo days though. I was calling Verizon early in the morning to preorder the Touch, Touch Pro, and then the Touch Pro 2 on the days they became available to preorder. I was really contemplating the S4, but I did something I haven't done in probably 10 years and bought a phone that hadn't JUST been released! Lol. The Note 2 is an amazing phone though, and totally won me over when comparing the two phones side by side! A lot of people say that you don't need a tablet if you have the Note 2, but I still use my Asus Infinity a lot! The Tegra 3 and full HD 10" display is simply amazing for gaming!! Plus, there's a few games optimized for the Tegra 3 and add special effects not available on devices without Tegra 3. GTA series, ShadowGun, Dead Trigger, Need for Speed, etc(I could keep going) are truly awesome on the Infinity! Having an HDMI port built in to the side makes it super easy to hook it up to my 55" Sony LED for an even more amazing experience, and using a PS3 controller to play makes it that much better!! Anyway, enough rambling on. I'm still running the shipped rom now, but I've got root and have TWRP installed so I'll be trying out some different roms in the morning, maybe even tonight if I don't start getting tired soon. Just bone stock though, the Note 2 is truly an INCREDIBLE phone!!!! So incredible that it pulled me out of a 7 or so year streak of nothing but HTC phones!

Yes! I'm in Seattle and this has been happening to me for the past few weeks. I thought I was the only one! It seems like I have to turn the phone off for a few minutes and then back on to get the colors and images the way they should be. I haven't hard reset my phone yet, but I'm considering it. I haven't found a permanent fix for this problem yet but it seems like it would be a software problem.
I'm using Go Launcher EX and the stock un-rooted phone.

16 gig here working perfect.
I had a 16 GB. It appeared to have major touch screen issues (middle third of the screen wasn't responding). After 4 factory resets and some resting time, that issue seemed to have disappeared. It had no dead pixels. I didn't mess with gps. I probably didn't have it long enough to experience reboot issues. I actually ended up believing it was a pretty good one (first run d60, June). I returned it because it just wasn't that much better than my original N7.

Yeah, agree with you on the "not a big difference between the two". My brothers N7 from last year is pretty damn simaler performance wise. But, for a budget tab, i haven't seen anything better. Was torn between this and the Note 8.0... Still am as i got hooked on the s-pen lol.
In all reality however, i dont recall seeing a thread with so many "something doesn't work" posts in a long time...

Nope, have to agree with you on that. As well i dont remember (might be wrong) the power and volume buttons being so awkwardly positioned on the original. These things are hard to hit... But i ordered this case yesterday, hopefully it will guide the fingers a bit better.

The buttons. Yes, very difficult for me to use on the flo model because, like the original, they are tucked "around the bend," but they do not extend out much at all--and are quite soft. Others may prefer the new type, though.
I got mine from a guy on Craig list. I was nervous but I got it brand new and saved $50. Jesus was on my said because so far no problems I never had a tablet before I'm most impressed on battery life )

I have a 16GB that has some of the touch (not registering when grounded issues) and multitouch (when crossing axis) issues. Both are very minor, and less apparent when the screen protector is removed (which might be for good once I find a case I like).
But I did try a 32GB at two different stores, and two different build months (06/2013 and 07/2013) and both had the issues. On all models I have tested the issues is there, you just have to be precise in testing for it (test on different surfaces, with and without screen protector, etc).
So either the issue is extremely widespread, or I have incredibly bad luck
Keeping the 16GB for now because it was actually the best of the three.

Quick rundown of issue people are claiming:
1.) Zero Light bleed. None, zero, zilch... in fact, this is my first tablet where I have zero light bleed issues.. impressed so far.
2.) Zero GPS issues. Before some tool comes in and claims I'm not using it enough: I drove to Colorado (Eagle Area) from St Louis and back using it as navigation, via Waze. When I was on location, I used Google earth to track my location off the main paths, and used Google maps to find the hotel and a couple of restaurants while we were out there. So if you're going to claim I'm not using it enough to experience the GPS issues, please inform me how you've used yours over 2000 miles over multiple states, and programs... Only time GPS dropped out, is through the tunnels in the mountains. (Sorry for the slight rant, getting sick of some people claiming every one of these units has a problem, and when people show theirs is working fine.. they're told they're not using it enough to see the issues)
3.) Zero Screen color issues. As a photographer, color and the appearance of my photos are important. The screen color accuracy is pretty spot on, with a very slight hint on the warm side.
4.) Zero Multitouch issues... aside from when you put 10 fingers on the display.. and then the problem is that there's not enough space to accurately use 10 fingers
5.) Wifi - On par with my laptop's 6200 series for signal strength... no weirdness.
6.) Bluetooth - Aside from the quirky issues 4.3 has with *some* BT devices in general, this unit seems to perform as well as any other BT device I have.
7.) Reboots - Truth is, I've seen this once, and so has my wife. (Just once per device) On mine, I was using Living Social to see if we had any local deals to where we were at, and after scrolling the app for a few mins, the device rebooted. Since I've only seen this happen one time, I'm chalking it up to a software/app issue. The wife's happened while we were on location in Colorado.. we were reviewing a few shots on both tablets, and she had her tablet sort of wedged into a standing up (landscape) position in the car.. she claims the unit rebooted on her, but the uptime on the unit states otherwise... I suspect the screen turned off, and she assumed it rebooted.
8.) Battery - Wife's has been on battery for 4 days now (fairly idle since we got back) and is showing approximately 68% available. She's still getting notifications, and has used it to listen to music around the house.. so I don't think this is entirely accurate for idle battery life I've gotten roughly 18 hours of 'active' use out of mine (off and on, obviously) running about 30-50% brightness. As you crank the brightness on this little sucker up, the battery life does suffer. Have ran mine completely dead a few times.. not because of the battery life, really.. but because I'm lazy and can't be bothered to plug it in (even if I'm sitting right next to an outlet) half the time.
9.) Uptime - Lotta people are claiming theirs reboots an awful lot... Can't speak for that here...as of this second, I'm at 81:34:52, mainly due to my previously mentioned problem of being too lazy to charge it
So... to answer the original post question..... Nope.. no problems with 2x 16GB, heavily used, units here.
Hey,
I'm thinking of trading my Nexus 7 2012 for a 2013 model! I've considered a LG G Pad instead but despite hankering for a larger screen, I will definitely miss stock Android, especially with KitKat round the corner. I've had a look around and have a couple of questions if I may;
Issues - Seems like a lot touch screen / reboot issues, are the newer models suffering also? I will purchase from Currys / PC World and I have no problems with returning a dodgy device (within 21 days it from the returns policy).
WIFI - My old Nexus isn't great with streaming content from my media server. It refuses to connect any higher than 65Mbps (oveer 2.4Ghz) I have a dual band router and I'm hoping that the new Nexus 7 will show an improvement over 5Ghz. Has anyone noticed an improvement?
Many Thanks!
Danny
In a word, no. And 5Ghz will rarely be better than 2.4 unless there is a lot of 2.4 traffic around you. The signal is not as good at penetrating walls as 2.4. I have both Nexus 7's and a Nexus 4 and my experience is that all Nexus devices have flaky wifi. I rarely get a connection better than 54, even when sitting next to my MacBook which connects at 145.
As for the touchscreen, the only issue I have experienced is that it occasionally thinks I have long tapped when I haven't. Mostly when typing. Don't now if it is software or hardware, but it doesn't happen enough to be an issue.
I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus that is no longer in use. I was thinking on using it as a dedicated GPS. I have CoPilot USA Premium for the offline maps. Any thoughts on this? I haven't set it up yet, but I thought this would be a great way to keep using an older device. Also, I was thinking on loading it with a ton of music and using it with my car stereo over bluetooth.
Any thoughts?
Only issue is battery life sucks when GPS/BT are active and brightness is Max, so you'll definitely need a 12v charger.
Once I start my car my GN automatically starts streaming all the music/calls via BT stereo.
Also use the stock windshield mount very rarely for GPS since I find it easier to just Google it(using maps+street view) before leaving this way I'm actually learning the route for future trips in that area.
Have even used it as a dash cam but then quickly realized I don't want a record of my driving habits.
LOL
That sounds just like what I want to use mine for. Is your phone still active on a plan or is it disconnected?

Still on the same plan for the past couple of years:
$25/month unlimited talk/text/data(use 5-6gb/month).
Don't even have/need home phone line or cable internet.
Use work internet/PC to get all larger content via teamviewer remote PC app and Fongo VoIP or Skype app for long distance calls.
I'm having a hard time getting the GPS to actually work on the phone. If it won't work I have a nexus 5 I can use. I was hoping to use the GN since it was just collecting dust.
