[Q] Best MultiWindow Custom ROM for Jellybean/KitKat? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been a bit jealous of the stock TouchWiz ROMs with their MultiWindow, even if it is rather limited, but I still like the other features of non-TouchWiz. Any suggestions? I'm especially interested in ones developing KitKat builds.
I might even give up my Ktoonz kernel even though it kicks ass.

I've not used either, I just recall that they implemented this feature. Happy flashing

Harder to DEV for TW or AOSP?

I'm just wondering why there are numerous TW ICS roms being created but basically only one AOSP rom at this time. Why do you guys think that is? Is it just a lot easier to create a TW rom compared to a AOSP rom? My take on it as a user is that there is a bit of trade off when comparing the two.
TW is how the phone is meant to run. All the hardware is working to it's optimal capacity but the UI and options leave much to be desired.
AOSP is a lot sleeker and barebones and has a ton of great features. However, sometimes you can't use your phone to its full capacity (like camera or lack of wimax for ex.)
IDK if this thread has a point...mb i just had too much jack and coke

AOSP is developed from source. AOSP roms (typically) are compiled straight from released android source code. This means that the developer must create a device tree for each specific device which they are building for so proprietary things work. Building a touchwiz rom means taking what is already built and fully functional and decompiling/recompiling it with tweaks.
So.. the process required in building from scratch is something that takes more time and testing then that of tweaking a already functional ROM.
Hope that answers your question.
Thank you for the answer good sir. I assumed as much...lots of props to all DEVS but especially the AOSP DEVS. Seems like they really have their work cut out for them!
AOSP dev is easier than TW once you have all the the drivers

which rom?

My buddy has a gs3 and the stock ROM isn't working or for him in terms of battery life. I'm pretty sure it's due to all the bloatware so I plan on rooting and throwing a custom ROM on it. However I don't have a gs3 so I'm not sure what the most stable ROMs with the least amount of bugs are. Suggestions?

Could start with a debloated stock?
Also, does he want TW or AOSP? Once you know the answer to that one, simply search the top threads and go with w/e he likes the best. They all have their features and such in the OP.

That really depends on what type he prefers: stock touchwiz style or aosp based. Everyone has their own opinion. In the Android development section you can find toms that are based on stock firmware. In the original android section are the aosp based roms. I would have him look at and read over the first page of each section. The most active roms are usually on the top half or so of the first page.

Doesn't matter. He's not a power user and will be fine with either. I just want to make sure I give him the most stable ROM since he doesn't tweak experiment like a lot of us do. Based on my previous experience with past phones I automatically towards AOKP but I'm at work and don't have the time to look through all the rom threads to get a feel of which is most stable so I figure I'd just ask.

Task's AOKP is rock solid. Tons of features and great performance. No stability issues for me and I've been running his updates exclusively since December.

Awesome, AOPK it is. Been a big fan of it myself. Only left because of the PA features.
Thanks for all the input everyone. Seems like of all my friends in the only one not using a gs3 lol.

If you haven't used Task's AOKP on an S3, it isn't quite like the AOKP you're probably used to. You'll have to try it out for yourself to see what's different.

[Q] cm10

Hello community, I am looking at aosp roms and cm10 sounds tempting as I adore cm. How stable is it? I hear there are data issues as I'm close to the 4g zones. Any fix for those? I'm on jellybomb v14 and while battery life is better than stock and the theme is pretty good, I still like the more stock, clean, better battery life, bloatfree pure android look better as I'm still in touchwiz land. Although some tw features can be useful, I don't even use some of them. Is there a better aosp rom out there?

My favorite is LiquidSmooth (recently got an update, as well). CarbonRom is also really nice. I would recommend just trying some out. Just make a nandroid of your current setup and flash away. It's fun and you can learn a lot by reading through the various threads!
I tried a few but found minor bugs here and there that aggravated me a bit.
I'm a big fan of staying with ROMS based on official releases that have proven their stability as I'm on call almost all of the time.
If you can afford to miss a few calls if it crashes and want to give it a whirl, DO IT!!!!
CM10 is stable, CM10.1 not completely but its getting there
And I thought they had incorporated it into future builds, but theres a flashable zip called "handoff_update" that fixed the handoff between 4G and 3G
I like AOSP because of its clean, uncluttered look. Simple, yet effective
But like topherk said, look through the screens and what features they have and make a list of about 6 or 7 that you're most interested with, then set aside a day to flash through them and experiment with all the features each one has and find one most tailored to the features you use
okay well it seems I flashed the cm10 and while I was playin' around with it and yaaay vanilla android, nice and clean, but I went back to jellybomb for right now.

Need suggestions for a daily driver. (KitKat)

Any stable or close to stable AOSP roms for the ls970? I really just want a KitKat rom to use as a daily driver. I'm not looking to get flash happy and mess around with all types of roms and such, I just want something to stick with in the long run that will allow me to use my phone as bug free as possible. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That doesn't exist yet, not really. I use stockimus as a daily with 8sms for sms/mms. Other than that its kinda a crap shoot some roms work really well for some people; others not so much. Daily driver for me means i could hand it to my dad and he wont call me about it breaking. Stable is if i can hand it to my mom. You're gonna have to get flash happy in order to find an aosp rom that works for you. sorry mang.

Damn :/ but thanks for the info man, much appreciated.
I disagree at all with him, there's plenty of KitKat ROMs been constantly worked by a lot of great developers, and a lot of them works great.
If you're one of those that can't stand flashing and testing a few here and there then stay in stock, if you're not, then, go ahead and try, you can always go back making a backup... but don't say that others works is crap.
There's gee ROMs like Vanir, Madhi, Hellkat, etc and there's ls970 ROMs (which are the ones that runs better in my phone) like Carbon, Liquid, PACman, etc.. full of features and very stable, but being honest CM11 is supposed to be the most stable, but it has lees features that others.
Every ROM has a forum where you can find what bugs it has and solutions, you can go and check if you want.
of course, there's a few things that you can't compare with stock ROMs like battery life and maybe stability, but it's not that bad, those features worth it. :good:
The thing is that every phone is different, I'm running Carbon as daily right know, you just have to find the right combination Rom-Kernel for you.

Not what he asked. Never said roms were crap. He said he did not want to get all flashy.
I would just suggest using something like slimkat or rastakat that don't have many features those are usually pretty stable.

Thanks for the info, i might get back into flashing around until i find something decent. And quick question, have you ever tried supernexus? I've heard nothing but good things about it and im looking for some more honest opinions about it before i decide to try it.

[Q] Thoughts on CM 11

Could anyone running "stock" CM 11 on their T-Mo S3 comment on the experience? Is battery usage better/worse/the same as the stock TW 4.3 ROM? Any issues with screen auto-brightness, sensors, etc? Are there any stock Samsung apps that you miss?
I'm on the fence right now- I've been stock & unrooted since I got my S3 almost 2 years ago, but now starting to get the itch to move away from all the Samsung bloat. I know there are some little things I will miss about the Samsung version of some apps like email, but having a more uniform and less junked-up experience is appealing. I know I could root & get rid of the bloat too...
Just curious as to folks' impressions- I've used CM 7-10 in the past and enjoyed it...
Thanks in advance!
Quiet out there! Well, I've run across some reports of camera issues, but that's about the only negative I see with CM11 vs. TouchWiz so far. Oh, and losing WIFI calling, which has never been a big deal to me, but I do like having the option.
Everyone has their own preferences. Personally I am a TW guy. But there's plenty of folks on both sides. Great thing is you can try it and if you don't like it, just flash back to stock based.
Yup just try it, its nice, but up to personal preference.. I think camera and WiFi calling is one of the only downsides. I didn't experience much trouble with camera it was very stable, just that the touchwiz camera app is much better and takes superior photos IMO, also has more options.. You could always try a 3rd party camera app of course, so again its personal preference

Me too. I like the camera, color point is a neat feature that no other camera seems to offers, I find the launcher works well and flows nice. I keep trying other ROM's with 1534534534543 features that I don't really ever use or need and come back to the stock ROM. Running 4.4.2 from my carrier, rooted with towelroot, KT kernel for power tweaking, can uninstall all the bloat I want and I'm good.
It's a choice, but sometimes, there are too many choices. XXX Rom has all the best (our option of the best) features of A,B,C,D,E,F,G. Ya, well our rom YYY has all the best features of A,B,C,D,E,F,G and H. Ooooo. Does it really matter? lol. I like being able to update my Gapps when I want, not have to run a special version.
XDA did a test a while ago against the Linaro toolchain compiles vs gcc and found no real difference in speed of apps or battery life. XDA or some other Android site did a test of ART vs dalvik, not a huge difference, ART performing worse in some cases. Same with all the build.prop tweaks that others tout. In reality and in testing, most don't do anything, or worse in some cases.
There is too many, I guess rumors out there about Android that everyone jumps on like "tweaks", "compile flags", "odex vs deodex" that keep going around, and don't seem to change anything other than offer bugs. Hard to find a custom ROM that isn't updated all the time to fix this issues or reports of random reboots, etc, all the time in the threads.
To each their own, but in reality, I don't think there is much difference between all the different ROM's. All small, small, variations on a theme. And half the difference or added in things, not many people use anyways.
