Hello everyone,
I need some help with my phone. I have a Motorola RAZR MAXX (not HD). My carrier is Ntelos which is regional cell company in WV and Va. I have had this phone for about a year and a half. I am able to get a new phone in October. This one is starting to give me some fits so I think it is time to "tweak" it. I have put in a custom ROM before (Cyanogen - couple of years ago on older phone) so I am pretty sure I can handle it. I just need to know which one is best for my phone. I will put some of the phone specs below. Thanks

I hope this helps and that you can help me.

"Best ROM/Kernel" questions are not allowed (really tolerated) on this forum. If you're lucky someone will politely tell you to try them all & decide for yourself. Typical response trend toward being flamed. So, while you can, run for your phone's development forum & start researching ROMs.
Good luck.

I've been researching for some time. Friend has same phone on nTelos. I will dare to ask here for help. Flame me if that is what happens in this thread...
BTW, I really just want to know if it is possible to flash / root the thing. If I get on that path I shoudl be able to find a suitable ROM.
TIA.

You really found nothing in phone's development forum that answered your question?
It may be the answer is it can't be done on xt908 on nTelos. That is what I saw. So I asked here.

Hey guys
So here is the deal. Cellular South has just released a CDMA version on the Desire. I plan on picking one up very soon. Until then I am trying to find out if any devs would help me port a desire rom for use on a my network. Please contact me through pm or this thread as I will frequent it. I have no prior knowledge of porting roms for use on different devices. I am assuming I will be able to root the same way I did with my Hero as they are probably similar in that aspect. I would love to be active in this process and hopefully learn something that I can take to the next level and give back to this great community that I have had the please of being a member of for the past year. Anyway I'm starting to ramble. If this is a feasible task please help point me in the right direction.

You should be able to use unrevoked 3.2 to root and install any cdma desire roms. which opendesire is the only one right now, and its still got the backlight and oj problem.
its the same phone as far as i know as USCC released last month.

Please excuse the question but I am a 4 month owner of a G2. Right before I bought the phone I startedlooking into the reviews for this phone which I ended up seeing things about modifying (rooting) the phone. I'm sorry to be asking aq question that may have been answered thousands of times but I do not want to act like I know what I'm talking about here. I'm in the construction business and use my phone for work and gradual personal use.
I am very intersted in modfying my phone to better suit me but I have no idea what each one of these different roots do. Are there any links out here that someone can guide me to in order to see the differences in these roots? I would like to know what each of them do in order to determine which root better suits me.
I appreciate any assistance you can offer out here. Thanks in advance.

As far as rooting your device, the guide in the wiki is the most failsafe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD

The guide to rooting is fairly technical, but if you follow the steps (seriously, double check your typing before issuing commands), you'll be good to go. As far as the ROMs go, the list in the link I sent you is most of the more reputible ROMs and the links will take you to their threads which will detail the benefits, additions, etc. each ROM has.

Hello all!
So, hopefully a simple answer to a (seemingly) simple question that I have not yet been able to find an answer for.
I am a Telus Mobile customer here in Canada. Some time ago, my HTC Amaze was stolen at a music festival, and upon my return home, I bought a NIB Galaxy S III (SGH-1747M) from a 3rd party retailer. Cash, no contract renewal, etc. Since I bought it 3rd party and NOT through a carrier dealer, my phone came (thankfully) without ANY of Telus's bloated carrier branding. Because it takes Telus so long to get, tweak, brand and release any software updates, it's often several months AFTER a release has come out before my carrier makes it available.
So, here I am, with my shiny, awesome Galaxy S III, and everywhere I look, there's a story about Jelly Bean, and how awesome it is. Naturally, I'd like it for my phone. But here's my question: (Two, actually) 1, if do an "over the air" update through my carrier by checking for online updates, will it update my phone with "branded" carrier software? And 2, Is it possible to just download and install a Jelly-Bean update to my phone directly from Samsung? I'm REALLY enjoying not having a bunch of crappy carrier infested bloatware on my phone, and would rather go with a clean ICS update than a bloated JB update.
Thanks for ANY help!
Doubt it. Whatever you'll get from Samsung will be for the international, which will brick your phone. You'll have to get it from your carrier which will megabloat your phone. You may then proceed to debloat your phone, once you have obtained root. Rather than that, why don't you get one of the awesome jelly bean ROMs in the development section? Simplifies things a bit.

I agree with the above poster. Rooting and then flashing a custom ROM is undoubtedly the best way to experience unadulterated JB in my opinion.
Galaxy S3 AOKP 4.1.2 JB 11/18/12 Build
Task650 Underwear kernel. (Conservative/Noop)
Or when official JB is released, typically you'll see a debloated version within 12 - 24 hours here on XDA. Root IS the way to go. So many options.

Trouble is, I haven't got the FIRST clue of how or where to start this process, and knowing me, I'd bork something and brick my phone. I would need VERY, VERY detailed and specific instructions that could walk me through it. I have NEVER flashed a ROM, or a phone, or any of that. I haven't got a clue where to start, and with all the phones, variations, software, etc, etc, etc. Learning how, from scratch... Is a little daunting. But hey, if anyone here is kind enough to show me the way, I'd love to give it a shot.

Easiest place to start is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839. It list all the different ways to root your phone and list all the custom roms out there in one forum. It has very clear walk throughs that are ment for noobs like me and elite alike. Good luck.

Hello, a friend of mine bought a S3 from america but now lives in germany, the phone only had english, canadian and french as system languages, so i rooted it for him and installed a custom rom, carbon rom 4.2.2 and have set it on german, but whenever i insert a sim card it asks for a network code and he cant call or have 3g because he doesnt have network.
what should i try to do, change the apn settings?
i also tried editing the nv_data.bin, but since its a custom rom there is none in the root efs folder of the device, i really need help making this device working, any advice or suggestions?

Doesn't Work For AT&T SGH-I747
Hey, While you're busy being a demeaning know-it-all you should know that procedure DOESN'T work for all the Stock AT&T phones.
I have a Stock AT&T SGH-I747
After Selecting PERSO SHA256 OFF and going back my number 4 option reads: "[4] RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON"
I did not mis-spell that either.
It would be nice if you could help instead of acting superior.
Thanks

There's no crying, I just tire of some of the brainiacs here acting superior instead of actually helping. I did see that, however I'm also not sure about how to go about doing that and "some" people suggested trying it anyway, so I did.
Everyone is aware you can go buy an unlock code for $25-$30, and it will work around all of these little roadblocks, but we're supposed to be here to help each other. So, someone much smarter than you figured out how to do this to the phone in whatever version the phones current state is.
You're just quoting other people, not offering any help
Now, if "You" are aware of a procedure to accomplish this the way the phone sits then please offer some help, otherwise Lose The Attitude and try treating people with a little respect.

Okay. I know it's asking a lot from you but let's think for a minute. Everything I have read says the phone has to be on 4.1.1. The method you are trying which is, using the dial pad to access the phone settings and not purchasing an unlock code or calling your carrier, only works for 4.1.1 which you obviously are not on currently, hence your predicament. Since you lack the skills to search and read how to downgrade, like you stated, the only other options are to purchase the code or call your carrier. He gave you all three options that work and you are saying he is useless? Your comments are the most useless comments I have read in a long time. It's like trying to make sense out of nonsense. You are asking for something that doesn't exist and it doesn't take much "intelligence" to figure that out. Good luck.

Dear Sirs,
please forgive me for asking this, but from two days of searching on this forum I still cannot answer myself this.. (seems im not asking myself the right questions)
I have been an i-device user, but with a need for an 8inch tab i also decided its about time to try out some android awesomeness. Luckily as it seems LG offers this perfect size of 8.3" and a possibility of a pure android system. Since im from europe i can only find a stock LG version (non-GPA) which i really do not want. Imho, a crime much like cutting a nice glass of whisky with some coke. So the question is:
Can i buy the LGA version and transform it into a GPA version, without voiding my warranty? (Possibility to revert?) How hard is this to do, and what would be the best way?
Appreciate your time&effort,
Alexander

Conversion from a 500 to a 510 is currently not a known white or black magic incantation. The voodoo involved seems to be a few minor hardware differences that results in no wifi or bluetooth working when people attempt the switch.
Your fellow magic-users do appreciate it if you search first... However the proper search incantation must have eluded you in this case!
(hopefully you found this funny, as it was meant to be, and yes I even answered your question)
The closest you can get with a 500 is picking a rom that stays close to AOSP...
Thanks! A true gentleman and indeed quite amusing, life is better with a grain of satire I realise this must have been discussed before, but as a novice to this world, obviously my quarries had indeed been weak. In my defense though, there is a tonne of misinformation out there on the great webs.
So something like this would be the best bet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/development/rom-android-5-0-lollipop-lrx21m-t2941207
And is there also a bulletproof way to restore to the original LGA state in case one needs to claim warranty?

I apologize for the late reply... I typically run CM12 myself I do not have direct experience with the rom you specified here.
You can restore the tablet to the factory condition. I just did it myself last night. I'll see if I can find the thread that documents the method that I use and add it to this post.
The approach that I use (and just used again last night) is detailed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
Those instructions are for the G2 however I have used that app on both my G3 and my V500 to get them back to pure stock. If you have never plugged your tablet into your computer when it is in download mode, it will take a while for the drivers to install. Once they are installed you should not have to type anything in (if the program is prompting you for information you have not got it right yet). The instructions for the factory reset and download mode entry are not the correct key combinations, but otherwise the procedure does work...
Superb! Thanks alot. As you can see from my signature i have gone ahead an got myself one of theese. Im loving it in every way (except he doesnt wanna jive with airplay all to well), but once decluttered, the lg rom is not that bad. Knowing i can restore everything back, calms my mind about trying rooting and stuff. I heard even airplay can work better once rooted..
