Hi,
Just wonder what would you guys recommend me try for a custom rom for my new Note 2?
I wish to have the following:
1. Good Battery
2. Similar to Original Samsung Rom, e.g. with all the S Apps etc.
3. Easy to use.

Try any of these 3 roms, they're the best in my opinion
1-Omega rom v6.0
2-Android Revolution HD v4.1
3-Wanamlite v1.5
And if u want the best battery life flash RedPill v0.5 kernel
What's the point in using a custom ROM anyway? People nowadays are crazy about them but I never seen the point!

No offense but you'll never "see the point" until you try one out for yourself. Custom Roms offer more than you can possibly imagine if you know what you're doing. All it takes to know what you're doing, is to read as much as you possibly can, because everything you'll need to know is located in these forums! There's definitely a reason why people go "crazy" over these custom roms!

Wanamlite 2.2 + redpill kernel . I got 13-15hours of screen on usage with airplane mode on.

I found HyperNote 0.4 with RedPill v.1.0 a very good solution. No matter what other ROM I try, I will be back on that combo pretty fast. IMHO it cuts out all the unnecessary stuff, while keeping the goodies alive (I love quick glance for example). Only downside is that the devs will only support official releases, means we are still waiting for an update to 4.1.2. Also I think their most efforts go now into HyperDroid (which is based on CM10). But then again, why fix something that works pretty perfect already.
The problem with hypernote is that they will reduce dpis further and it'd eventually get too low.
Ok first off I do hope I'm placing this in the correct section as I am asking a question.
Second I've searched enough threads to know thats a terrible question to ask "what is the best rom..."
So here goes... I am planning on flashing a new rom sometime this week and I'm open to anything out there. I will most likely try a good portion of them and form my opinion of them. However before doing so, I want to get the opinions of the users who has these custom roms. There is no right or wrong answers, I just want to gather a quick summary without plundering and pillaging through all the pages of all the custom roms out there. I'll try to keep it updated in the OP for a summary of the ROMs that people came back with answers to.
Thanks in advanced!!
ROMS
1) Looking at the guides, I stumbled across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27745461&postcount=2
Is there any more Roms to the S3 aside than these ones?
2) What were your experiences with these roms?
Name of rom used:
Base on(ICS,JB,AOSP/AOKP etc):

Why did you choose it:
Improvements over Stock ICS:
What are the strengths of the rom (stability, battery life, lagless, etc):
Short comings, weaknesses and areas to improve (even if its nightly, i understand theres lots to improve on):
Type of kernel and why:
Secondary Rom choice and why:
Thanks a bunch you guys!

Here's answer to 1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1689
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1633
Answer to 2:
I'd rather not answer this as it is so highly dependant on the user's end. A ROM can work beautifully well on someone's phone and work like **** on someone's else. Same goes for kernels and settings.
You're probably already know this but look them up, maybe even try them. But mainly, look at their OP, features, FAQs, to know if the ROM suits your needs. Also, going through the last 10-15 pages of the ROM's thread will enlight you towards whether it's for you or not.

Just a curiousity...do you know why only those roms were selected on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27745461&postcount=2 guide?
As for question 2. I understand opinions can vary, i tried to use the stock as a benchmark instead of comparing other roms with other roms.
Of course i will go to each thread, read through the OP and last few pages . But I thought I'd ask the people of xda concurrently.
Having said all that I noticed you using AOKP 4.2.1 and Kernel: KT747.
In your opinion how do you find them compared to stock? What do you like and dislike about it?

Can't really compare to stock as I flashed it before the phone was fully out of the box.
It's running well on my side but I have my personal mods, which I could apply to anything I'm running. It's stable and smooth (once again with my mods) and can't really comment on the UI as I use a theme and uccw a lot.
The kernel is mainly cause it offers me more freedom when it comes to mods than stock kernel.
I can't say there's a downside other than 4.2.1 has known bugs (which isn't ROM related). Like the BT audio streaming that is borked.

Fair enough.
What kind of mods did you look into to make your phone perform the way you want it to? And what did those mod help you accomplish?

Hello everyone,
I need help finding the most current rooted stock rom. SPH-L900
Right now im at 4.3 mc2 rooted stock. Is there anything new? I can't seem to find an answer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Digiblur rom is a good basic start. Mc2 is not 4.3 though. Any roms that say mk4 are 4.3. Oh, and wrong location to ask questions.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
digiblur and smoothest are the only 2 I have tried for touchwiz, and they both work great
Classic Rom is very nice and also 4.3 and has a all black and white theme too
Synerygy r105 best stock rom imop..
I posted in the general section and received no replies so i asked to delete that thread.
Thank you guys for all the replies.
I understand what your going through. The Note 2 page is so confusing with all the different variants out there. It would be nice if they were broken down to folders for each one 4.2 4.3 4.4 and so on.
I too am looking for advice on what ROM to use. I've tried a few and they've all had broken crap... like obviously broken crap that should have been in the OP and used to be back in the day. Would have saved me some time if I knew beforehand. Things like Wifi, GPS, OpenVPN....
Negativity aside, I'm looking for:
* a daily driver ROM - good performance good battery life, but stability most importantly
* where all the radios work right out of the gate, or with a single easy to implement fix that works 300% of the time that's no later than the 2nd or 3rd message in the ROM thread
* I want to use the Pen, so I think that means it has to be a touch whiz ROM, right?
* VPN to work, specifically, OpenVPN. Seems that I might be better off sticking to Android 4.1 or older for this, to bypass the VPNService API I have been researching all day today
* Bloat removed, or removeable
I really like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121063 but I can't get OpenVPN working or any concrete info on what's going on or how to fix it, so I think I'm going to have to find a new ROM.
I installed Whompasaurus yesterday, that seems to be a favorite here, I might try it for more than a few hours, or try Jelly Bomb http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957773 or the Swamp monster by team Venum http://www.teamvenum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=768
I like the look of this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266079 but I'm pretty sure it will have the same VPN problem since it's based ont he same ROM I'm using now.
Smooth ROM is the best Rom for the Note 2

Sorry guys, comparison threads are not allowed on XDA. If you want to find a ROM please take the time to read the OP and user comments in the threads. If it looks interesting give it a shot. If you don't like it try another.

My wife has the Galaxy S3 (AT&T) and I have the Galaxy S3 (Sprint). I've googled for best ROMs, but not everyone has the same criteria to judge 'best'. I'm looking for the best ROM with the following features (numbered most to least important) that supports both of our phones:
High Stability (bug-free)
Compact size (minimal bloatware)
Active development (support)
Good battery life
Good Performance
Recommendations would be much appreciated. Please specify why you recommend a particular ROM. Thanks in advance.

Use the at&t and sprint s3 android development forums.
Check the titles for TW VS aosp, os version, blah, blah.
Read the Ops for specifics.
I also look for roms with a lot of chatter in the thread, and roms that appear to be regularly updated.
The problem with ur question is that if u get 20 answers you'll get 17 different roms...

Thanks. I have been doing something like that. With respect to my Sprint (L710) variant I have installed and tested these four:
SlimKat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400593)
modified Stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741413)
CM11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030660)
Gummy (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563973)
Do they represent a good cross section of available ROMs or am I missing a bunch of good ones? In particular, I disqualified the second option since several apps couldn't write to extsdcard even though I have installed and executed SDFix. SDFix is not required for the first option and it does everything I want. I also tried CM11, but it seems to have more bloatware than SlimKat and no obvious advantages. Gummy kept giving me FC's on various gapps apps. In summary SlimKat has floated to the top. My only complaint is that I had to tweak the dpi, but the texdroider app fixed that. What are some good options that I'm overlooking?

Thanks. I'll check those out. I forgot to mention, but another criteria is that any candidate ROM must be available on both the Sprint and AT&T variant of the Galaxy S3. I've eliminated quite a few on that basis.
Update: Based on a bit of Googling it appears as follows:
Wicked X -> Sprint only
Tribute ROM -> Sprint only
Carbon ROM -> both Sprint and AT&T
Based on that I'll investigate Carbon ROM and if it seems appropriate, give it a try. I just checked out Carbon ROM for Sprint. It appears the forum petered out back in February and the download links are broken. Think I'll pass on that one. Also, I hesitate to try the newer ones you mentioned since my most important criteria is stability (ie, bug free). Thanks again.

Thanks. I'm trying BrokenOS. So far it seems fine, but I haven't noticed many differences from SlimKat. Can you offer any pros or cons that would help me decide?
I do see that it offers both the Nova and Google Now launchers. Nova has an extensive settings page which includes a handy backup and restore feature. I can't find anything similar with Google Now? I can't even change the grid (icons per row and column). Am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure the base of the rom is based off of slim not sure though. Well broken os is very smooth and fast never had any force closes battery life is great on it.
For the Google launcher it doesn't have anything really you can customize. So no you aren't missing anything there. I would say to use nova.
CarbonRom is back up here is the link for the D2LTE which will work for both your S3's and here is the Change Log if you want to check it out.....

That's the official site.....the reason they are nightlies is because the developers add and remove features all the time it's in the channel log..but the basic functions of the phone always work.....so they are stable nightlies....
Thanks for all the feedback. I've tentatively selected SlimKat. It's the slimmest of all tested and seems fully functional. BrokenOS seemed nice as well, but it was slightly less slim, much less active development, and didn't offer any noticeable advantages. I'd still be interested in recommendations. As mentioned, a candidate must be available for both the Sprint and AT&T variant.

Thanks. I had some time this morning, so I installed the latest Carbon ROM nightly. Here are my comments so far based upon limited testing:
Closer to stock than SlimKat (eg, dpi, icon size, etc)
Google Now toolbar top of all home screens
Calendar not included in ROM nor gapps (so installed Google Calendar from Play Store)
Titanium Backup Pro complained about installed SuperSU (so flashed Update-SuperSU by Chainfire)
SuperSU app tends to hang (temporarily clear via reboot)
Several icons appear on Lock Screen (they seem to taken from notification screen)
Fully functional so far (with exception of SuperSU)
Less slim than SlimKat (Nandroid 951MB vs 783MB)

You see...that is the problem...BEST can only ever be opinion...they are all the BEST for the people using them if you check the individual development threads.
Battery performance will vary from user to user....ROMs have little to no effect on battery performance...it is how you set up the kernel and your usage/preferences/signal and such that affect it..not the ROM.
You can only learn about stability by reading the development thread. There may be an app or dirty flash or lemon phone that makes something unstable for one person and not for the other 1000's of users of that ROM..and maybe that one guy comments here and not the other 1000.
Again performance is kernel related and the settings in the kernel....learn how to ajust your kernel settings mostly through trial and error.
Active development...you just need to check the first page of the development section...the ones on the top page with most replies are the most active.
So that leaves compact in size...search through them for the words debloated and look at the download size.
The rest will be mostly opinion and things you will need to learn by trial and error.
Googling for best ROMs will turn up garbage as again there is no baseline...did everyone start with a clean flash? Was the download good? Is there decision for BEST based on ludicrous items like color? Included launcher? You may as well be asking what's the best curtains to use in my living room? You will get everything from price, to color, to thermal blocking, to texture, to cleanability.....all relative to the person using them.
Hope this helps and explains why you will never find a useful best rom thread and kudos for actually listing some criteria.

Thanks. I understand what you are saying, however, I have found the comments to be useful especially in terms of narrowing down the number of candidates to evaluate. In the final analysis, I must do my own research. At the moment, my personal favorite is SlimKat and I use it as a baseline for comparing others.
hello,
after going through some kernel descriptions, i have found, each of them have some up and down sides too. right now I am using temasek cm12.1 unofficial build v15, using the default kernel.
I have looked the following kernels - ElementalX, Glitch and Vindicator.
my device is 32GB razor-flo (wifi-only),
can anyone suggest me the best all around kernel for the device on the given rom?

These threads and questions are pointless. Anyone that's been around the forums for awhile will dismiss a "best ROM/kernel?" Thread as one posted by an OP that is lazy to try for themselves, or had extremely limited knowledge and wants to avoid time spent reading or trying for themselves.
Don't take this the wrong way, just want to let you know how others will likely view and respond, or why they would ignore.
Really, all three you mentioned are great kernels, but their individual performance on your device will vary based on the settings you use on the kernel, ROM settings, installed apps, running processes, etc. Too many variables for anyone to offer you an absolute or honest answer...
Sorry for being too novice in question, but I have never tried flashing modded kernel. But my actual intension was to find out what most user prefer while choosing custom performance/mod kernel.

Like you said, there's pros and cons to all of them, but all three you mentioned can run effectively and efficiently on Flo, it's a matter of tailoring your usage and needs to your kernel settings. I prefer elemental x myself, because I believe it's the most stable, I like the aroma installer, and i like how good the paid elemental x app is at running the kernel. That's just my opinion. I've used vindicator and glitch quite a bit, they're great too, but have different strong suits than X.
