I'm not really feeling the stock Samsung keyboard and I've been searching for a successful port of the HTC/Sense keyboard for the S3 with no luck.
It seems as if I'll have to find a comparable or better replacement. Any suggestions?
(BTW, my phone is rooted so there are no issues with flashing anything.)
Try SwiftKey 3! That's epic keyboard with best word reach speed.
It's radicolous in GPlay and probably best keyboard with international support.

+1 here too...
Another +1 for SwiftKey3. I switched over to it about six months ago and haven't even thought about looking for another one.
Tried a bunch, keep coming back to swiftkey
I downloaded original stock ICS keyboard works the best no problems
There's something wrong with swiftkey 3 for me.
I could start typing a sentence and it would end up looking like this : The quick brown fox jumped over the fefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefefe.
And once I'm in that lock, pressing backspace will just add more. Doesn't happen often but it's annoying.

Quick SwiftKey tip go into advanced settings and lower the time needed for long hold to around 200 milliseconds... Much better. Kinda like a 2 stage button

I personally use the Gingerbread keyboard. I find it to be very accuate and the autocorrect is spot on for me.

SwiftKey is the choice for me, using it for a few months and I really can't see myself using anther, I can type super sloppy and still write perfectly.
I can sometimes type without even looking, for short texts or things like that

i use smart keyboard for my sgh t999
+1 on SwiftKey
I love this keyboard because of the auto correct feature and the amount of options you can choose. For some reason while I'm typing sometimes it will do double letters and it's at random. Sometimes it will look like this "HHey what aree you doing?" Am I the only one with this issue. Using it on my completely stock AT&T galaxy s3.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I haven't experienced that issue but it will ocasionally say I hit a letter than I didnt
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
It's my favourite keyboard, I use it every day in the past 10 months or so, didn't have this problem either. (Used it on atrix, vivid and hox). Maybe the screen is a little too sensitive?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
There is no way of adjusting the sensitivity of the screen from my understanding. I just am curious if I'm the only one to have this problem or if someone else has experienced it at all doing the same thing. I don't know I'll try not typing so light and see if that makes a difference. If someone has had this problem and they fixed it please let me know how.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Has anyone seen if maybe it's the speed at which you're typing. If I type slow its not so bad. If I start typing faster it starts putting the double letters. Just trying to figure this out. Thanks for the information in advance.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I have the same issue. I type pretty fast and it always has that double letter issue and even sometimes has double words even though I only enter it once. I decided to stick with the stock ics keyboard from the play store which works great without any typos with my quick typing

I definitely have this issue, and am using 4.6.00.147 version of the app (the most recent I believe) as I don't see any update in the Play Store. I love this keyboard, but this part of it is very frustrating. So much to the point that I went back to the stock AOSP keyboard, but I want this to be fixed.
EDITED: I've reached out to the developer to see if there is any idea on what's causing/how to fix. I will post any updates if I get any that are constructive.
I love SwiftKey because of the amazing auto correct, arrow keys, and swiping to delete a word. I type very well on my phone thanks to the program.
However, since I am not using the stock keyboard, I don't think I can do cool stuff with my pen like write a handwritten text message.
Anyone else sticking to SwiftKey or are folks using the stock keyboard?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I alternate between both. I love SwiftKey but I can't do one handed typing. That's why I also still use the Samsung keyboard. If only it had auto correct. Oh well.

I'm a Swype fan, but I'm currently giving the Android 4.2 keyboard a chance. It has a swipe feature..... So far I'm thinking I'll switch back to the Swype keyboard. It gets the words correct more often it seems...

For me it's SwiftKey all the way no other program catches and fixes as many words as SwiftKey does

Can you edit the dictionary for your own words or delete words you don't use?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I used to use Switftkey, but since I have a Note 2, I use the samsung keyboard, because it can learn my often used words same like switftkey.
If you see the options in "Predictive Text" in Samsung keyboard is almost the same with the "Personalization" menu in Swiftkey.
The only thing I miss is the cursor key option in Switfkey is not available in Samsung keyboard
Used to, but moved to stock

When i had my s2, i used swiftkey, but since i got my note 2 Ive been using the stock keyboard because it has swipe and swiftkey features built in.
Always used swype in the past but when I got the gn2 I loved the stock keyboard too much to change. ..
Great swype function and number pad. Tried SwiftKey but wasn't that impressed.

I agree. The JB keyboard is good, but missing the cursor keys. Swiftkey is still better in that sense.

I use SwiftKey in the day and swype after 10pm at night. Reason being at night I normally like to spend some time playing with the phone, reading forums while lying in bed b4 sleeping. Swype is better for this case.
I have a tasker profile that automatically changes input to SwiftKey in the morning and swype at night.

I used to swap between Swiftkey and the Swype beta on my Galaxy S and Note 1.
But I've just been using the stock keyboard on the Note 2 because it is almost like Swiftkey and Swype combined.
I just hate that the Samsung keyboard is so big. I occasionally still switch to Swiftkey when I want to see more of the screen.
The Swiftkey and Swype keyboard take up a lot less screen space. I can't wait for Swiftkey flow.

Lol. cause at night I'll be lying on the bed, holding the phone up using one hand. so it's easier to Swype with the other. It's not possible to type using 2 hands in this manner.

I use swiftkey. The lack of auto correct in samsung's keyboard kills it for me. I can type 5x times faster with swift with its (still) unparalleled auto correction.

Sorry cause I usually like to type using both hands. Swype is not very conducive for that. Only reason I use Swype at night is because I cannot type with both hands while lying down and holding the phone above me.
SwiftKey. For clarification, Samsung calls it's version of Swype "Swiftkey", so that camelcasing is more important than ever in this thread.
SwiftKey is the only app I've ever purchased. I used the trial and could not go back to any other keyboard after that. I do wish it had the option for a row of numbers, like the Samsung keyboard does. That's really convenient, and on a phone this size not a hindrance.

I understand now! Makes perfect sense!
Well, i tried the Samsung Keyboard with swipe feature and it sucked. Punctuation was difficult to say the least. However, i did like the number keys always up there.
Back to giving Android Keyboard another go now...
Overall, Swype Beta seems the easiest when trying to type really fast, but formats funky on the screen sometimes.
I'm hoping the next version of Android Keyboard is improved. It also won't show you word suggestions for previous words, which is just stupid..

Amazing. Can't wait for the official release, bug free with hopefully some sort of swipe to delete (swipe the backspace button?).
I use SwiftKey 3 before this and the swipe left for a word delete was amazing.
Am I the only person that thinks it's horrible? I use SwiftKey and love it but flow just isn't there yet. It only types what I want half the time and I'm constantly going back and fixing errors. I'm much faster and accurate with the normal SwiftKey.

I find that the case with most of the "flow" type keyboards. For some reason, tapping just works better for me. The idea of having to type only one key at a time (as opposed to using 2 fingers/thumbs) is beyond me and slows me down!

I'm using this keyboard cuz for me it's like a free version of SwiftKey with that amazing prediction. The swiping works best on the words you get lazy on or you know are easy to swipe. I'd drive myself crazy if I tried swiping a whole paragraph. This keyboard is really accurate tho and the feature in the settings that shows where you press the keys is cool and it imports ur words from other sources so it knows you well right off the bat and with the cool default themes this keyboard is a keeper
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
As far as these trace type keyboards go, I prefer Swype. Although I understand this is still in beta. But I stay with the normal SwiftKey because I end up spending more time going back and correcting errors than it saves me.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I didn't get into swype type keyboards until I tried the 4.2 nexus keyboard. I thought it was decent but without the auto correcting and spacing of swiftkey, I went back to it.
Same thing with the OG stock keyboard. I absolutely love this though. I keep swiftkey but I've been messing with flow more and more.
It's a beta so it has it's glitches (swyping 5 words then it goes blank once I move on to the 6th one) but when usually it works great.
I've typed out long text messages faster than I ever imagined with it. I'll be getting the official apk once it's released.
It may be me but, does anyone else have a tough time using the keyboard on this phone. It seems to me it doesnt respond well to the "key press" and I dont have fat fingers.
I just have issues with the autocorrect. Switched to stock Android keyboard and no more issues
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk now Free
I can't seem to get the handwriting to work. I take out the pen and switch to that when trying to write a response to a text message and it does nothing. I write the word and it doesn't translate it to text. It just sits there.
The handwriting aspect is bugged you need to uninstall the keyboard and reinstall it reboot device then it should work.
