Enerplex Jumpr Mini - credit card sized external battery - Nexus 5 Accessories

When I had my Galaxy S4 Active with removable battery, I always carry a spare battery in my wallet. It's small enough and I don't want to carry my brick-sized Anker 10,000mAh battery. With the Nexus 5, I've been looking for a small, credit-card sized external battery that fit my wallet.
I found the Enerplex Jumpr Mini - it's exactly the size of a credit card and have a built-in USB micro cable AND full size USB port. It's only about 3 credit cards thick.
Capacity is only 1350 mAh, but that's good enough for me since I will always have this with me (I leave my Anker at home most of the time). Output is 850mA but charges my Nexus 5 just fine. From 52% to 91% in 56 minutes.
This may not be for everyone, but if you have the same needs as mine (external battery that is portable enough to put into wallet), this is a good find. I got mine from Fry's Electronics but you can also get it from Amazon here.

You're welcome!
That one in KickStarter is only 600mAh I think, so I am glad I have this.

Very interested. How much was it at Fry's?
Never mind. I found it. 24.99. Found it for same price in Amazon with free shipping too. The above link charged shipping. Ordered!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00G6QFJ3K/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&m=AJG14BUL885W9

I got it. But I can't fit it in my wallet with my other stuff. I would have to remove a lot of cards. But I don't have a traditional wallet, so maybe it works better for others.

Nice find. I think it's a bit pricey though considering I got my anker 6,000 mah for 30. I think 15-20 would be a more fair price. It does seem really convenient. I carry around my anker in my bag, but I don't always have that with me.

I actually looked around and found this on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GU589GG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The dimensions are actually a bit smaller than the jumper mini and the battery is apparently 2,000 mAh. Only downside is that it doesn't have a built in microusb cable but it does come with two of them. It's a lot cheaper too. I ordered one today so if anyone is interested I can post pics/review it.

Oohh... that looks really nice! Please do provide reviews and pics once you have it. I am interested in the size (same as credit card?) And output capacity.
With the Jumper Mini, I can use the phone and charges at the same time.

Sure, will do. It's actually slightly longer than a credit card, so hopefully it has no trouble fitting in my wallet. But yeah I should get it on Thursday so I will try and write something up by the weekend.

Can I get this in Germany somehow? Was lookin' for something like this!

Just bought this a few days ago from frys for 9.99! well worth it for a small carry battery to give my phone a boost when I need it. Great find!

Battery Thread discussion

I was thinking about getting a back-up battery soon and I always had 3 1900 mah batteries for my iphones with an extension cable to plug in
I'm not sure what kind of battery i'm going to buy because of case's and screen protectors, I'd like to go with just replacement battery but if I have to take the case off all the time and maybe disturb the screen protector that wouldn't be good so I was thinking about doing the same as with my iphones with a cable

Goto monoprice. They have 2800 mah batteries. Works great.

i prefer the 4200 mAh solar powered from Deal Extreme (with optional wall/usb port re-charging in case you need it in a hurry)
it works everywhere
it's great when you work outdoors and no power outlets nearby

I definitely want to buy from that site but that 4200 mAh Solar I think is a little over kill for me I'm never in the sun to have that work LOL I think just a good high capacity battery will do as long as it's flat

If you can hold out it worth it for the price. Just need to find a good female/male micro usb cable. The only one i could find so far is motorola's one, but its too short. But it is better than having that battery directly plugged in.

why not try anker astro, looks far more well made, if you look at both picture carefully, you may figure it out the anker one have a higher capacity but with, smaller size. i don't trust those cheap, made in china batteries. i have one of anker astro, see my attachment. already used 2 weeks, very handy. i take it long with me all the day.
What I don't understand is that until this day all the various sites told me tha the battery in the GN is 1750 mAh. But: http://www.google.com/nexus/#/tech-specs tells us that ther is a 1850 mAh battery in the GN.
Can I say cheers to the extra 100 mAh?

I thought I heard somewhere that the 1850 is the LTE version. Not sure why Google doesn't differentiate it like they do the other LTE-specific specs
Thanks! That would explain the difference.
I'd really like a large external battery with solar power. I bought one from eBay and it was terrible. Never charged my phone past 20%
Any suggestions? I dont care how much it costs, I just want the best, most powerful unit.
Monoprice has a 2800 mah battery for ~$15. Then find you a cable witg female micro usb and male micro usb on the other. Its not solar but a decent alternative.

Also found it at Amazon UK for the GSM version:

Great find! I've searched daily for one of these. Thanks very much for sharing. I need one for backcountry GPS use and changing out small batteries always screws with settings. For $20 with cover and Prime, I'm jumping on it!
Just a quick warning that these are not NFC compatible. Personally, I don't use it, but it may be important to others.
Battery came very quick, very fast delivery and used for one day
I'm extremely impress with the performance of this battery. Typically on an average day, I only get at maximum 4 hours of battery life thanks to the 4G connection, now I can go on for a whole day without looking for a charger! will continue to post results as I use this more
Also will like to comment on the back cover. It has the Hyperskin texture just like the original case. Makes the phone just as grippy as the original case, the cover also provides an ergonomic contour for holding the phone properly. With the original cover I find it a little bit too thin to hold. Along with the hyperskin texture, this thing does not slip at all.
Overall excellent build quality and good lasting battery. This will be my main battery going forward
I don't trust Chinese batteries because of an experience I had with a Chinese battery I had for my DX2.
I will stick with my expensive Seidio batteries from now on. lol
seidio is like 4 times the price of this battery. I tried seidio before and although they are good, i find phones obsolete too quickly to warrant on an expensive battery with similar increase of batt life
At that price it's hard not to pass up. There are very few times I need such battery life but tournament weekends and occasional outings for events definitely would warrant this.
Just ordered one for flights with an external charger. Hopefully everything works out well.

Gonna give the Anker Multi-Purpose Universal Rapid Cell phone Battery Charger for Samsung: Galaxy Nexus one a try. Can't post a link for amazon since I don't have enough post.
Btw, just a heads up to you all.
If you look at all the posts of the OP, he seems like he is banging the drum for QCell batteries.
Just a FYI.
OP probably is affiliated with QCell in some way.

Can someone NOT affiliated with QCell give us your personal thoughts...
Battery vs Stock vs Extended Verizon
I'm worried that the cheaper cells used won't hold their charge after xxx charges. It happens all too often. I think all of us have had this happen to them on one phone or another. At that point might as well buy overpriced Seidio.
That picture makes it appear that the extended battery nearly doubles the thickness of the phone. I'm using the Sansung extended battery and while it adds a nicely needed "heft" to the phone that keeps it from feeling too cheap, it doesn't add a lot of thickness.
I ordered a GSM one from Amazon UK, there's not much price difference with the chinese ones on eBay and, although the battery might probably come from the same or similar place, the case seems nicer and if anything goes wrong I'd rather ***** Amazon customer service than some random eBay seller.
Will keep you informed, although I don't have the official extended battery to compare with.
I just got mine in today. Definitely is thicker and kind of looks like the seidio extended battery but it actually matches the color and texture of the original battery. I am coming from the verizon extended battery and am charging up the new one as I type this so I'll report back after I use it a bit

Anyone know a good portable keychain charger?

I'm looking for a little bit of a boost while I'm on the go, and I like the idea of the wireless chargers with the batteries built into them but I feel like I would never really bring it anywhere...anyone know of a charger thats small enough to attach to your keychain (preferably with the usb cable built in or wireless would be even better)?
Doesn't have to have a huge capacity...just a little extra juice in emergencies would be nice if it's portable enough to always have with you.
edit: after looking around this seems to be the best i've found so far...but it's a little bigger than what I'd really consider "keychain" sized

nice design tho...anyone know of something this nice but just a little smaller? or is this probably the best i'm gonna get?

wondering whether there is a portable battery that is stylish as well. Thanks for the mophie link. Since we have the Nexus5, I wonder if there is a wireless portable battery charger instead!
Bigger than keychain-sized but there are a lot of these cute looking power banks floating around for cheap. They pop up on Groupon, TeamBuy, DailySteals and all the other group buying sites frequently, as well as eBay and Amazon.
There is a whole section on DailySteals right now:
http://www.dailysteals.com/heists/404/Battery-Backups
For $10 (shipped to US only) you can get a 2600 mAh power bank either in a rectangular shape (something like a slightly bigger pack of Halls?) or cylindrical, with a choice of colours. Or for $20 something that is oddly T-Mobile branded and presumably heavier, but packs 4000 mAh and has an integrated micro USB cable.
Or maybe this bright and slim 4000 mAh pack: http://www.amazon.com/MOCREO-Universal-Portable-Lightning-Blackberry/dp/B00EL8MX20
There is basically something cheap in just about any shape you could imagine.
Not a keychain but I'm thinking of getting this one.

I backed this project on kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2088143118/nomad-cable-micro-usb. The funding period is over and was successful funded. Production just recently started and it will be sent to backers in the second half of November. Once backers have received their product they'll start selling it publicly on keroproducts.com, for $14.99.
Edit: Oops I misread, I thought OP meant cable. -_-
I ended up buying two of these: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00FJK02JK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Because the total came out to only $15 shipped in Canada. No integrated cable but should at least in theory provide a full charge. Will have to see if that's really the case.

I bought a couple of these about a week ago. Nowhere near the claimed 2600mah!
The most I've had them charge my nexus 4 was 25% before they conked out. Average charge was around 10-15% charge.

Don't know if this is a bit small, and it's not out yet, but the devotec micro fuel charger is very key chain sized. Obviously being that small it only holds 220mah, but it could be enough to get you home. Did really well on kick starter.

Vote: 8000mah Nexus 5 extended Battery. Will you buy?

I love travel, especially remote area. I want a great phone with long lasting battery. Nexus 5 is a great phone, but battery only last less one day under moderate use.
So I made a extended battery, the capacity is about 8000mah, 3.6 times of the stock battery:

I am waiting for the 3D printed back cover to finish this project. According to my test, under normal use, this phone can last 3-5 days with one full charge. The charge time is about 5-6 hours. My wife love it too, I am making another one for her. She asked me why don't mass produce it and sell?
The only thing about this extended battery is the complexity. Like other recent cell phones, Neuxs 5 put NFC, wireless charging coil, antennas and vibrator on the back cover. So to make this extended battery work on Nexus 5, beside the 8000mah battery. I also designed NFC Coil, Wireless Charging Coil, WiFi Antenna, GPS Antenna, and a vibrator. All these components adds up the cost. The retail price may reach $70-80.
I started this battery as a hobby. Is here anybody like my design, and think I should mass produce it? Will you upgrade your Nexus5's battery to 3.6 times for $70-80?
Yes!!!
At that price? Yes, really just depends on the bulk added
-guess
Looking good! 8000mAH is a lot of juice. How much bulk (in term of thickness and weight) is this going to add?
This is a great idea, but way too big. If you made one with a 2000mah battery I'd be all over it. Good luck!
I would take one for that price.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
God damn!! I wouldn't mind using it, ingress destroys my battery.
Sheesh that's a lotta juice!
Looking forward to seeing that cover and how the phone looks after juicing
How about adding a MicroSD slot, I'd imagine you could graft it onto the usb port somehow... I never understood why nobody does that.

Technically, MicroSD slot is doable with the usb port, but we may need to cut off the data wires of the usb port. I haven't tried that yet. Don't know if the SD card and USB data can be connected at the same time to the PC / Mac.

Thanks Everybody for the supports. I am glad to see you guys are interested.
I worry most about this mod is the installation part, since Nexus 5 is not deisgned with a removable battery. Please let me know if the following installation is suitable for most of users:
1. We need to take your nexus 5 apart to take the original battery out.
2. Install the small battery of the extended battery and plug in the connectors.
3. Install the circuit board which connects the vibrator, antennas and coils.
4. Flip the large battery back to cover the small battery.
5. Connect the coils on the large battery to the circuit board.
6. Snap the extended battery cover on. (Coming Soon).
Please let me know how do you guys think about the installation part.
=============================================================
About the thickness: according to the 3D file, the thickness is about 17.5mm. I think it's okay.
The last phone with extended battery I used is HTC Sensation XE, with the extended battery is 18.5mm for only 3800mah
The thickness of galaxy s5 is even thicker: 21.4mm for 7500mah (With this thickness, we can make about 10000mah for nexus 5).
The thickness of s4 is 17mm for 6400mah
OMG like really this would be awesome could you post some pictures of your phone with the inserted?
And ps be sure to ship outside the US too
The worst of Nexus 5 is the battery...
This "mod" its awesome! I cant wait to see the Nexus 5 ensambled with the 8000mAh battery!!

I'll Buy
this is awesome. Though i would prefer something along the lines of a 3000mah battery, just so its that much thinner
This looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Just perfect
This would be soooooo good. The installation doesnt look hard and you are getting 8000 mAh. Ridiculously good.
Waiting to see that final image with the printed back cover.
I will buy it
This is very good work you've done. But it is a very niche product. Not many people are willing and able to disassemble their phone. Fewer of them own a Nexus 5. Fewer of those want a bigger battery and will ever learn about your product. And fewer still will swallow the price.
I encourage you to charge as much money as you need to, so you can make up for the low sales volume. Don't short-change yourself. This looks like a $100+ kit to me. Maybe you can hold a group buy, massdrop-style, where the price falls as more people commit to buy.
I'd definitely pay for it, well worth the money! but would want a bulky case to fit it lol.
Easily $100 or more wouldnt pay more than $150!
Like he said it's something only certain people would buy and be able to fit it properly, well I would!
I would love to have that battery power but i'm afraid that thing will ruin camera performance.
An extension battery pack can't add any thickness where the camera sits, otherwise it will impact on camera
If it's not bulky, I don't mind paying up to $100-$150. It would be nice if you can make the size smaller and fit it inside.

Review of Anker 2800 mAh S5 replacement battery/charger combo w/lots of pics!!!

This is a review of Anker combo battery pack for Galaxy S5 with 2x 2800mAh batteries and a travel charger. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OUA9M1Y/
Since I already reviewed a single replacement Anker 2800 mAh for S5, I will quote parts of my original review in here.
It's not a speculation but a fact - sooner or later your shiny new Samsung battery will start showing signs of aging and reduced performance. It's also a fact that some of us wants to keep S5 slim without extra thickness or weight of the extended battery, and would rather prefer to have a spare one they can charge externally and swap when necessary. Either way, a number of S5 owners will be looking for a replacement OEM battery and that's where the nightmare begins. You can cross out most of the cheap ebay or other on-line retailers, especially those claiming 2x capacity in the same footprint as OEM battery - those are all marketing tricks where often you won't even get the original capacity. Going on Amazon used to be a safe choice, but not anymore. The same ebay sellers list their junk under the brand names and people don't bother to check when looking for a bargain price.
This battery/charger combo from Anker arrived in a sturdy box with two batteries, a travel wall charger, and a nice set of instructions all separated inside of the partitioned plastic tray. Each battery was shrink wrapped, sealed airtight, and actually half way pre-charged. The wall charger is generic re-branded type with a plug that folds flat thus making it convenient for traveling. This charger actually has a dual functionality, to charge a battery (at 600 mA) and to charge any other device connected to external usb port (at 1A). I know this is not the fastest speed, but it's a convenience of been able to charge a spare battery externally outside of your phone. A lot of people prefer not to have a charging downtime when using their phone, and find it a lot easier to just open the battery cover and replace with a spare charged battery.
Putting Samsung original battery next to Anker reveals an identical outline shape in length, width, and thickness. Everything aligns with the same contact spacing, the same capacity and NFC functionality, and the same fitment. The only difference was a water tamper seal sticker on Samsung which is not present on Anker. Regarding the performance, out of the box I didn't see or expected to see any difference in comparison to a stock battery. The battery was recognized, ran cool, and lasted the same amount of time relative to our typical use with a stock battery.
Overall, this battery is not about double capacity or some new extraordinary functionality. It does what it supposed to do and comes in a convenient double packaging with a bonus travel charger. Furthermore, it's from a trusted company that earned its reputation with thousands of 5-star comments/reviews on Amazon over the last 3+ years. I'm not hyping it up, just stating the obvious by searching on Amazon as well as forums in our community. Anker actually has a really good quality control, a great tech support, a very reasonable competitive pricing, and 18-months hassle free warranty. Definitely gets my recommendation!
