Incipio NGP case for the Moto G
Cost: $19.95 ($16.95 with a coupon for me) free shipping from the Incipio website.
Description: Incipio's version of TPU, it's a case that covers the sides & back of the Moto G along with a small lip on the front of the phone to elevate the screen if faced downward. A nice feature of this particular TPU case is that the buttons (power & volume keys) are also covered with minimal interference from the TPU material.
My thoughts: For a $20 case, which is approaching the price of the likes of more robust hybrid (polycarbonate/silicone or PC/TPU) cases like the Otterbox, as well as equaling the cost of Moto's own Grip Shell accessory, I was expecting a lot out of this case.
I got the black color TPU case for two reasons: I prefer neutral colors for my cases, and secondly, TPU has a notorious reputation for yellowing as it ages. I'm hoping that this case, which is still slightly translucent, will conceal the yellowing process more since it's a dark neutral color. We'll see how it holds up -- normally when I have a TPU case, I don't mind replacing it every 5-6 months or so since they're usually so cheap ($5-10) but this one is at a higher price point than other TPU cases so I want it to hold up longer.
In terms of fit, there's nothing to complain about. The TPU is very flexible (a little less stiff than I'd like to see, but doesn't have the "rubbery" feel of cheaper TPU or silicone cases) and everything aligns perfectly with no gaps. The "NGP" material itself which Incipio claims is better than your average TPU has a very nice texture and premium feel. It's a very subtle "grainy" feel when you run your fingers over the surface --- smooth and hard but not slippery as you'd think of a TPU case because of the subtle grain. I don't know if the sparkly mica-like particles in the NGP material are what gives it that texture, but it definitely gives the case a more solid grip than what I'm used to in other TPU cases.
Neither the headphone port nor the microUSB port are covered --- the cutaways in the case do not interfere with cables. There is a decent distance in case thickness for the back camera/speaker/flash to be protected from any table debris, and similarly the lip of the front of the case gives the screen clearance. The case lip fits snugly around the front of the case without any gapping.
Now, normally with a cheap TPU case I would not complain about manufacturing quality beyond any fit issues. However, for a premium TPU case, I'm disappointed to find very obvious seam lines all around the case. You will notice them in the closeup photos below of the ports (lines in the center part of the case as well as some flash (leftover seams/bits from manufacturing process)) around the ports. That's a bit sloppy for a case that is marketed as a step up from your normal ebay TPU case from overseas. It's more of an aesthetic issue than anything else, but like I said my expectation of this case is higher due to its bigger price.
The thickness of the TPU seems adequate for decent protection, i.e. dropping short distances on softer surfaces like carpet, etc. If you want maximum drop protection for your case, you would probably want to look at a Trident or Otterbox especially since they really aren't that much more expensive.
Conclusion:
I would say that it's a OK purchase but I'm not super thrilled about it --- I think the Fosmon Hybo Snap was a better deal at less than half the cost and you'd probably be just as happy with a Cruzerlite TPU case ($10-12) as this one, unless you dislike the smoother feel of those cases. Unless, of course, you must have button covers in which case this is one of the few TPU cases where the covered buttons are actually the same or slightly less sensitive than without the cover --- it's my favorite feature of the case.
I do like the feel of the NGP material and so far it seems to collect less dust than most TPU or silicone cases, I'm just not sure it's worth the extra cost.
If you want a case with minimal bulk but still protect the corners of the case, this will do for you. However, you may want to consider other similar TPU cases that are half or less of the cost of this one.

^ That's not dust, that's the sparkly bits in the NGP material. It looks pretty nice in the light, sort of like the mica/metallic paint jobs some cars have.
^ Note the presence of very obvious seam lines (that you can also feel when touching it) :|
How's the Fosmon one? Does it come with a built in Screen protector and is it TPU on the bottom? Thinking of getting it.

I agree. I'd rather get one of the Cruzerlite cases for less money. But then again, I'm a fan of 2 piece cases that offer more protection. Btw, great review.

I like the Fosmon case especially at the price point (under $10). It's the case I use most frequently when I go out. It does come with a built-in protector that was OK --- I already have a screen protector on my phone which I didn't want to remove since I swap out cases so often, so some of the edge sensitivity issues I was seeing may not be an issue for you. I felt that the built-in protector was a bit cheap.. it's thick but I could see faint scratches in it from being cleaned (when tilted in the light, not obvious whilst using the phone). I'm used to the more responsive wet-apply / static-apply on-screen protectors, but if you prefer built-in protectors you may be satisfied with this one's responsiveness.
It's an inner ring of TPU (sort of like the Moto Grip Shell "rubber ring", except thicker & imho more protection) that snaps onto a polycarbonate back similar to the original Moto back. The corners (so top, sides, bottom of phone) are half thick TPU and half thinner TPU covered by the polycarbonate back. The back of the phone case is only polycarbonate.
The Incipio I'm using mostly at home since I still want drop protection / be able to have it sitting on surfaces without getting the camera or screen scratched --- since I use wired headphones for calls at home it's the more convenient case for this situation over the Fosmon since I don't have to flip back a headphone cover to use it.
I did a review on the Fosmon case here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643755

Eh, it looks pretty good, but i went ahead with the Fosmon DURA-FROST Series Flexible TPU. Would have been better if the back was TPU instead of the back. btw Nice review

Review: I bought this case to hold out for maybe a Speck, Otterbox or Body Glove. But man I was impressed with the design. It feels very sturdy and tight on the phone, yet it is quite slim and easy to take off the case. With the acrylic, it slides in and out of pockets. But with the rubber on the sides it grips firmly in your hand.
Compared to Speck, like I said it's easy to take out. When I had a Speck candyshell on my HTC One X, I felt like I was going to break the One X anytime I needed to remove the case. This is essential as we have removable batteries and SD cards, so accessing the back is required.
Compared to Otterbox, it's thinner. The depth of this case is .49" measured with calipers.
I highly recommend this case. It looks very nice, feels great, thin and slides in and out of pockets. plus it comes with goodies like the screen protector and cleaning clothe. Along with the acrylic background, I plan on creating a Captain America Shield decal and using the blue area as the center of the decal.

Cons: Top and bottom parts of rubber are a little flimsy. But it makes it easy to hit the home button if you have big thumbs.
If anything goes wrong, I will update the OP.
EDIT: With the plastic backing, it's perfect to put a decal on.
Thanks for the pics...That's the best looking case I've seen so far on Pebble blue. Love how the grey blends with the front.

No problem. The great thing is that they're out now. Should be in best buys, T-Mobile stores, etc.
This blue one might be a T-Mobile exclusive since I could not find it anywhere else.
Do you have any pictures with the case on the actual phone? The pic you posted shows the camera not centered in the cut out, so I'm not sure if that's a real phone in the case or just a piece of cardboard .

It's just the cut out, but I posted the site and they have it around the phone. I can't take photos because well.... I'm taking the photos with my phone lol, unless if I do front cam in mirror.
Looks good! I might get Incipio Feather

From falls, acrylic is known to break. Speck Candyshell should be much stronger with the plastic material they are using. But it will protect for phone and get the job done. Plus there are some add on bonuses like the screen protector and clothe.
I chose it mainly because it looks the best, slides in and out of my pocket, and feels studry enough for my lifestyle. I work in a cubicle, not construction, trucking, etc.

Candyshell is very VERY hard to get on and off of the phone. Try and watch a video on how it attaches itself, the hard rubber and plastic are almost molded in together where is the incipio are two separate pieces.
So if you ever wanted to get your ext SD card out to transfer files, access your battery for battery pulls if you get a soft brick during flashing, the Speck will make it extremely difficult. I meant extremely. It feels like you are going to break your phone in half to get it off.
Thanks for the review.
I hope someone can do a side by side comparison/review of of the otterbox commuter and this.
After all that i've seen so far, i am down to choosing between the two for my needs.
Can't to seem to find the case with the colour in your photo on the website.. Hmm...
I thought I'd add to this thread since I have used the Incipio Silicrylic Dual Protection case on my new S3 over a busy weekend. After three days of use, these are my impressions:
PROS
Slim styling adds minimal bulk, while the two-piece design adds protection while adding sophisticated styling details
Excellent side-button covers give an accurate tactile feel to the on/off and volume toggle switches on the side of device - I can feel the case itself click with the button!
Smart, well-centered cutouts for all ports, camera lenses, etc. with no exposed plastic edges (all rubber or rubber-lined)
Nice - almost "rubberized" - feel to the plastic outer case with an almost aluminum look - so it feels AND looks sharp
The blue teal color is unique - Incipio doesn't offer it on their website, so it's probably a T-Mo exclusive (I picked mine up in a T-Mo store). And, uncannily, it just happens to be a perfect match for my VAIO EB "Iridescent Blue" notebook PC - not intended but a pleasant surprise that likely no one without an iridescent blue VAIO will likely care about.
CONS
Poor implementation of clear acetate screen protector - first, only one is included. Although the surface of the S3 is only subtly convex, it is enough for the edges of the screen protector to separate and float above the corners of the device. Additionally, the edges of the rubber shell will overlap some of the acetate screen saver, further "nudging" it off the screen.
Extra screen protectors are surprisingly unavailable from Incipio as a separate purchase
Minor point - extra outer or inner shells unavailable, so mixing colors is not an option (I'd think that would be a revenue generator for Incipio since the two-piece stylish design lends itself to some fun mix-and-matches)
CONCLUSION
In all, this is the best case I've had for a smart phone yet. Since the S3 - like the other Samsung S-series smart phones - uses Gorilla Glass, the value of the screen protector is questionable, but my Samsung S (Vibrant) was showing microscratches after 20 months of in-and-out-of-pocket use despite Corning's claims. If anyone has figured out how to use the screen protector, I'd like to know about it. Perhaps a slightly larger screen protector from another manufacturer (a true edge-to-edge) would work better with the Incipio shell.

No. It is thin. I sent mine back because it was so slippery in the hand, I felt I was at a greater chance to drop the device WITH the case on rather than without it. It felt like it was covered in baby powder or talc or something.

Wow - that is definitely not my experience. I have the Silicrylic DualPro but not the DualPro Shine - in case that makes a difference..
Looks a great case
I went and bought this case earlier. i will upload a few pics when the camera is charged. My case isn't as blue as the op's case though but it has the same sku on the back. I think it may be the lighting as mine's more of a teal color. Still a cool color though.
is the rubber part flexible easily on the sides once the hard case is on?
that was a problem with other incipio silicrylic cases. the rubber would move in your pocket cause it was too lose and lint/dust would get trapped between the case and the rubber.
i hope the response is that "it's nice and tight"
im really looking into buying this case.

It's not sloppy loose but it's not as tight as say the "body glove dimensions" case either. But then again, it's a different material. While the body glove it really tuff, this is really smooth. I like this one better.
Incipio SILICRYLIC in blue exclusively for T-Mobile USA.
The case is very, very nice. The soft material is very comfortable and a joy to grip. The plastic is also a great "soft" feeling material. I've jumped through 4 premium cases so far and this is by far the best one for what I want in a case. The only thing that stopped me from buying this in the 1st place, was the colors available on the Incipio site. The color of this one is more of a metallic teal than the blue that it looks in the pictures. I'd rather have the blue, but the teal is very attractive in person.
The case is $30 at T-Mobile (I snagged it for like $23). I would've payed the $30 though no problem. Cause I feel the case is way better than some that are priced higher.
The main thing about this case - It's easy to take off so I can swap batteries. This is a must for me as I've tried it with the speck case, the body glove dimensions and the case-mate barely there and this is by far the easiest to take off.
When it comes to protection, this is number 1 from the ones I've tried. And that includes the speck candy shell. The reason this beats the speck? Cause you seriously run a risk of cracking the gs3 screen while trying to remove it from the speck. And there should be no reason that a case, can make you risk breaking your phone while trying to do a simple task like removing it.
Some say "use a tool to remove the speck". Nah, I'll pass. If the 10 tools that I use daily for other jobs (fingers), can't remove the case, then the case is a p.o.s.
If the phone falls in this case, it has just as much of a survival rate as that of the candy shell, if not more... I have dropped phones from waist high with a Incipio feather on it and it didn't have a mark on it (gs2). I'm pretty sure that this case can do better. The candy shell, though it has a hard and soft material, is a lot less shock absorbing than this. The reason is the specks "soft material", isn't nearly as soft as this Incipio case. And for that reason alone, I feel there's a risk of less shock absorption with it than this case.. Drop a rock and a sponge and tell me which one does better...
Here's the pics.
I'm switching my gears a little bit to step down from all the premium cases I have reviewed so far and to focus on a handful of budget cases from www.tvc-mall.com where you can get each one for a few bucks. Those are typically even cheaper than ebay, but you do have to pay shipping. Lately I didn't have much luck with ebay where either they ship a wrong stuff, or description is different from pictures, and there is a hassle to exchange or refund the money. I have purchased from case-parts/tvc-mall (the same place) many times in the past and always been happy with their products and customer support.
First one is a hybrid TPU case with a very unique design of molded flexible hard plastic bumper and soft tpu textured back. The hard plastic bumper grips phone very securely around the edges and provides a nice corner protection. Although slim, it offers a raised lip to keep the display away from the surface, and also provides a nice friction for the front and the back of the phone so it will lay flat and won't slide. All the cutouts are perfect, power/volume buttons are covered and not hard to push, and it even offers a bonus of two small corner holes to attach lanyard. The 3D cube texture on the back is really cool too. http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Coo...alaxy-S-4-IV-i9500-i9505-Black-MHC-I9500-08A/

The next case is something for the ladies with it's shiny electroplating finish and rubbery diamond cut back pattern with rhinestones. Although having a fancy sparkling finish, this case is very slim and lightweight. Buttons are open for direct access of power/volume, and top bottom are exposed as well. You still have a side lip to keep the phone off the surface if placed down. This case is obviously more for the looks rather than protection. But I have to tell you it does look very fancy and sparkly, and stones are actually recessed. http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Ele...alaxy-S-4-IV-i9500-i9505-Black-MHC-I9500-30A/
If you want to have the slimmest and the most minimalistic protection for your S4, you have to check out this hybrid tpu/plastic bumper case. Since this is a bumper, you don't have the back cover. But the bumper is nicely wraps around the phone, raising front and the back from touching the surface. Bumper is made out of clear flexible plastic material with a molded tpu rubber edge. Buttons are covered, flexible, and easy to push. All the port openings are perfectly aligned. This one gives your S4 a bumper/corner basic protection without adding any bulk. http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/TPU...S-4-IV-i9500-Transparent-Black-MHC-I9500-01A/
Next Folio leather case was definitely a pleasant surprise. You don't expect much for $3.60 case until you open it up. This is a very nicely crafted wallet folio case with a magnetic latch. The wallet part of it has 3 slots for credit cards and drivers license with an additional wide slot for some cash. On the other side of the wallet you have a slim plastic shell/case to hold the phone. The phone goes in very secure, definitely will not fall out of it even if you drop it. You get cutouts for power/volume for direct access, and also cutouts for camera/flash and speaker. This way if you want to take pictures, you don't have to take the phone out of the case, just open the flap. The top and the bottom of the case are open so you can connect headphones and use charging cables without taking phone out. Also, it's very nicely padded to give you a decent drop protection while magnetic latch/flap will keep it closed if you drop it. As a bonus, you can open and prop the case in landscape mode to watch movies. http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Fol...laxy-S4-S-IV-i9500-i9505-White-MLC-I9500-35B/
Last one is an armband case to keep your S4 securely next to you while exercising, running, biking, etc. It's made out of quality neoprene material with adjustable velcro band. The front of the case has a soft pu leather material and a reflective strip around the display window. The transparent rubber/vinyl window allows you to control touch screen for basic functions. You can also push on Home button through the case, but obviously you don't have access to back and menu buttons. The top of the case flap has a cutout for headphones. Also, there is a little side pocket for a key. Overall a very functioning armband to keep your phone attached securely to your arm through any physical activity. http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Spo...alaxy-S-4-IV-i9500-i9505-Black-MSP-I9500-01A/
Just have to make a quick update. Since I mentioned Case-parts.com and tvc-mall.com are the same sites, I realized that tvc-mall.com is the only one where you can use paypal in addition to other payment methods. So, I have updated all the links above to point to tvc-mall page (it appears they have an identical database anyway).
And just as a general comment, you guys can check out my signature link where I have reviewed multiple dozens of cases in the last few months. I know these above cost a dollar plus change, but I was honestly impressed with a quality for that price.
Have you reviewed any cases that are ultra low-profile? I know the lip around the screen will protect the screen when face down, but i feel that this raised edge gets in my way.
Any recommendations for bumpers or super slim cases that barely stick up above the glass?

All the Spigen stuff I reviewed is low profile, too low for my personal taste. Why would you want to put your $650 phone into a case with a low profile without a bumper protection for corner or screen lip or back protection (since camera on S4 is protruding)? Gorilla glass 3 will only give you a false sense of security. It might be able to withstand some minor scratches, but it will scratch. And if you drop your phone - your glass will shatter and will cost you $200 (either through replacement, or insurance deductive, or all the insurance monthly premium you are paying). You can call me paranoid but between XDA and AndroidForums I have read a ton of horror stories of people dropping their phone to see a few seconds later a spider web crack from the corner of the screen. I would never carry my phone naked.
As you can see from dozens of my case reviews, I typically focus on brand names, stuff that goes for $30, $40, $50 and higher. But if you are on a budget or just have an addiction to get different cases for everyday of these week, you always have an alternative above to buy for $1.50 or $2.30
If you are seriously looking for the most minimalistic case/bumper to improve the grip, not to obstruct with any colors, you can choose that clear bumper above with a white rim (if you have white S4) or use with black rim (for back S4). That will be a really good solution.
Btw, if links above are not working, just change "tvc-mall" to "case-parts" with everything else remaining. I have no idea why sometime it works and sometime it doesn't... Will have to email these guys to tell them about their webpage problem...

Thanks for the reply. I have never used a case and never had a problem. My gear sells for like new with no scratches. But I did recently scratch one phone by carrying two together with screens touching, so i am debating a case or not.. But I am not in favor of them.
In the palm/ppc days I bought cases - expensive ones. In my opinion the cheap ones suit me fine. I think expensive cases are a waste of money, but that is my opinion.
That's for the suggestions though.
I have been using the following three cases for Nexus 5 for about a week, namely, Spigen Slim Armor, Supcase Unicorn Beetle, and Tech21 Impact Snap Case and thought I would share my opinions on each of them. You can find more real-life™ pictures in each case’s dedicated thread linked below…
Notes:
- All three of them works fine with Meenova in case you wonder :silly:
- I'm using Spigen Crystal Clear screen protector and all three cases don’t interfere with it :good:

This is one of the first cases I have an eye on. I love the design (especially the camera cutout) and protection it provides – with this case on, my Nexus 5 feels like a tank. However, it has to sacrifice in aspect of weight and shape. Being a 2-piece hybrid case, the Spigen Slim Armor adds a lot of weight to the phone. It also changes the shape of Nexus 5 into a “square brick” and is harder to hold than the naked phone. The button feedback was acceptable, and the price around $16 is quite good for me.

Supcase Unicorn Beetle (dedicated thread)
This is the most compact case among the three. I like how it “hugs” to the sides of the Nexus 5. With plain and simple design, it adds minimal weight and makes the phone easier to hold, however the hard matte TPU on the sides could be uncomfortable from time to time. The frosted semi-transparent back is a nice addition to the design. However, I feel like it provides the least protection among the three cases because there is no “air cushion” or “shock absorbing molecules” whatsoever. The only thing that I don’t like is the button feedback, it’s really hard to press the buttons – the only way to know if the button is pressed is to look for feedback on the screen. Any way, the cost at around $10 is ideal.

*** Modded Supcase Unicorn Beetle
There are people having the same problem with the button feedback and @dzaster89 came up with modifications to improve the button feedback. I gave it a try, and now the button feedback feels just like I’m using the naked Nexus 5 (better than the Tech21’s). So the ratings for the Supcase with modification would be the following:

Tech 21 Impact Snap Case (dedicated thread)
Bought this case out of curiosity because many people claim that it’s really good, and I’m glad I bought it. This is a very nice case with unique design. It feels great in hand and improves grip a lot. The button feedback is the best among the three, I can tell if the button is pressed without looking at the screen. I also love the clear back that shows the “nexus” logo. The open cutout at the bottom seems to follow the curve of the Nexus 5 perfectly and I like it. However, some people may concern about the protection at the bottom part. The only gripe is the price of the case – I think $30 is too expensive, even with a discount coupon it’s still expensive than the other two cases.

TL;DR
So, in summary, I’d suggest:
- modded Supcase for the best price/performance ratio.
- Spigen for protection and look.
- Tech21 for protection, comfort, and overall aesthetics (of course, it’s subjective )
I picked up the Tech21 case last week. My issues with it are the easily scratched back and no protection on the bottom front. It does have a good feel and I think a solid drop protections, as long as it doesn't hit the bottom front.
Thanks for the review. I use a spigen slim armor and was thinking of getting the tech21 case. The two issues with the slim armor is that I don't think it works with most wireless chargers, and if it does the magnets from the official nexus charger won't hold it. Also, I don't know if this is a problem with most cases but I notice that there is a lot of dust that collects around the usb port and the headphone jack area. Again, I don't know if other cases do this but it sort of bothers me especially since my old S3's headphone jack port got clogged by some dust which I had to replace to fix. So, do you know if the tech21 case would work/hold with the nexus wireless charger and have you encountered the dust issue?

Yeah it lacks protection on the bottom. But to think of the scenario that the bottom will hit, it has to be a non-flat surface with protruded edge or something like that – and I believe in that situation the screen has much more chance of getting hit instead of the bottom

I don't have a Qi charger yet… planning to order one from AliExpress, but will wait until after the Chinese New Year. If someone with a Qi charger could provide more info it would be great.
Regarding the dust, I believe it depends mostly on your environment. I usually put my phone in the pocket and I work in an office so no dust issues for me :fingers-crossed:
Tech 21 all day, its pricey but well worth it to me anyway. I plan on getting 1 or 2 more.
Can you please provide length x width x height measurements for the Tech21 case?
The dimensions I find listed online (125x60x10mm) are impossible since they make the case out to be smaller than the phone.

I also usually keep my phone in my pocket. Usually in jeans. I don't really work in a messy environment. I even clean out all lint when I put on my jeans. So weird.
After many more days of usage, I finally understand what @PsychDrummer means.
In summary, the Supcase attracts a lot more dust than the Tech21. Especially on the screen edges and speaker holes. I had to use a brush to clean it out every other day.
I'm not sure why, but I couldn't stand using the Supcase more than a few days, then I had to switch back to the Tech21. It just feels right for me over those two cases

I'm glad you got what I meant. The dust on the very edge of the screen is the most annoying for me, and it's very difficult to clean. It's so strange too since my Slim Armor case covers it up so I have no idea how it gets in there. So with the Tech21 case it doesn't seem to happen?

Just took the Tech21 off yesterday to clean up the phone and found that it did collect some dust, but a lot less than the Supcase so I guess it should also collect less dust than the Spigen Slim Armor :fingers-crossed:
I just got a used tech 21 case from ebay and have to agree with all your comparisons. My slim armor is definitely heavier. My n5 came with a rinke case which is basically the same as the supcase and I don't like it at all. I like my slim armor but the tech 21 is what I'm going to keep on the phone. It's lighter, seems like it'll protect as well as the slim armor, and I just really like the looks better than either of the other 2.
This is a review of Otterbox cases for Galaxy S6, Commuter Series: http://www.otterbox.com/en-us/samsung-galaxy-s6/commuter-series-case/sam4-galaxy-s6-byo.html#start=1 (available on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-COMMUTER-Samsung-Galaxy-Packaging/dp/B00TYTDN6Q/) and Defender Series: http://www.otterbox.com/en-us/samsung-galaxy-s6/defender-series-case/sam2-galaxy-s6-byo.html#start=1 (available on amazon:

There is no denial, Otterbox is probably considered to be among the most popular brand names when it comes to smartphone cases. As a matter of fact “Defender” became part of our vocabulary referring to cases with tough multi-layer protection. And even in todays highly competitive and over-saturated market of smartphone accessories, a lot of the people still put safety of their phones in hands of Otterbox. Here I got a chance to test their latest versions of Commuter and Defender series for Galaxy S6.
Typically, Otterbox retail packaging has a nice presentation inside of a plastic clear box. I’m sure most of you are familiar with it or have seen it at Best Buy or your local carrier store. Since I received my review samples directly from Otterbox, they came inside of separately labeled small plastic bags. But regardless of packaging you receive these in, I would recommend saving it along with your purchase receipt. Otterbox warranty process is very thorough, and though it states “one year”, I know of situations when people submitted a claim with a picture of a damaged case and proof of purchase after warranty expired and were able to receive their replacement. True, you are paying premium, but you are also getting a reasonable support in return. More about the actual cases next.
Starting with Commuter Series, you get a dual layer protection with an inner silicone shock absorption layer and an outer PC impact resistant layer. In addition, Commuter case also comes with a film screen protector, to protect your display from scratches. The inner silicone layer has sealed power and volume buttons to keep dirt and dust away, while still having a nice tactile response. Micro usb charging and headphone opening both have port covers to protect from external elements, though it also adds some pressure on the connectors when you have charging cable or headphone jack plugged in. From my personal experience, if this bothers you – you can always cut them off. Other port openings at the top, bottom, and back of the case have precise cutouts and perfect alignment with S6.
The assembly of the case is straight forward where you start with an inner sleeve, making sure phone is fully inserted, edges are covered, and power and volume buttons are alignment, and then apply the outer shell. Once assembled, the case adds some bulk but at the expense of an additional protection. The inner silicone shell provides a decent front screen bumper allowing you to put phone face down. Also, you get a decent grip since outer plastic layer doesn’t fully cover silicone shell sides. Unfortunately, the outer PC shell is a bit slippery in your hands and could become a problem when placing your phone face up where it can slide off smooth surface if bumped. At the same time, smooth back cover means an easy way in and out of the pocket. Another observation, this case works well with most of the film protectors and some thin tempered glass protectors where silicone bumper of the inner layers shouldn’t lift the edges off.

While Commuter series is considered to be their “slimmer” version, Defender series adds some noticeable bulk with a full wrap around protection, but it’s too bad. Either way, it’s a price to pay for an ultimate protection – and that’s exactly what you are going to get! Starting with an inner interlocking PC shell you have a built-in screen protector and also another thin layer of shock absorbent material inside of that shell. A built-in screen protector is film based and has a cutout for home button. The assembly of inner plastic case was a huge improvement over the previous Defender cases where tabs are a lot easier now to interlock and pull apart. On top of that, you have another silicone shock absorption layer placed over the PC shell. That piece adds another layer of shock protection and also significantly improves a grip. Also, you don’t have to worry anymore about your phone sliding off the surface when placed face up. Of course, facing down you also have a considerable amount of front lip to keep it off the surface. Just keep in mind this is just a film screen protector where any direct impact will not protect your display. For that you will need a tempered glass protector, but with Defender you can only use a thin tempered glass to fit inside of the inner shell.
Just like with a Commuter, Defender has micro usb and headphone ports covered and protected from any dirt and dust. Also, volume and power buttons are covered and have a nice tactile response when pressed. The rest of the ports have precise cutouts and perfect alignment. The only issue which still remains is micro-usb port opening being limited by plastic guards of the inner shell that allow only use of an average or narrow charging connectors. It’s probably not going to be an issue for majority, but I do have to acknowledge that some micro-usb cables with a larger connector might not fit.
Last but not least, Otterbox also comes with a belt-clip holster which allows you to carry your Defender case attached to the belt. Belt-clip holster will come especially handy when you spend a lot of time outdoors. The Defender case fits inside of the holster both face in and face out. Typically for extra protection you would want to keep it face in, but there is also an advantage to place it face out since a belt clip locks in open position and doubles as a kickstand to place your S6 in landscape orientation to watch a movie or to play a video, etc.
Overall, lately I noticed that people prefer to minimize and to slim down their cases. Even a slim case can enhance a phone grip and provide a very minimum drop protection. But it’s not enough if you are camping or hiking or work outdoors where your Galaxy S6 is going to be exposed to a rough handling. The choice between Commuter or Defender will give you some room to decide how much protection you need depending on your everyday activities, but regardless of your choice – both of the cases will give you a piece of mind with a decent drop protection. I know a number of people who got both of these cases with Commuter for everyday use and Defender for when they’re going on biking or camping. Of course, everything is up to a personal preference, but if you require a maximum level of protection – Otterbox cases should be on your list to consider.
Very Nice Review, Thank You.
Does the phone slide around inside of the plastic shell after you snap it together but before you install the outer silicone?

No, it wedged in there pretty tight! Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of "defender"

Yea, I have the Defender for the S6 and the it was pretty loose inside of the plastic shell. Otterbox is sending me a new shell.

Are you keeping the old one as well? Would be interesting to a/b to see what they have changed or if your original one was defective? Actually if you think about, being loose inside might be to your advantage since you can probably get away with tempered glass screen protector if there is any extra room
Do either of these cases work with wireless charging? That's what I'm curious about. Is the flash hampered by the cases in any way?

Hi,
We renewed our phones plan and got 2 Pixel3. For cases, my initial plan to order 2 Spigen rugged armor on Amazon (2 x $13). Not in a hurry, I wanted to check out the quality of cheap cases. For the same amount of money I can buy a lot of cases on eBay ans still have enough money for some screen protectors. I spent sometimes to review images of the cases on eBay, mostly to avoid the crappy ones (like hard cases) or very expensive or weird looking. Sorry I prefer to avoid giving the eBay link I bought. You can find out easily by searching for Pixel 3 cases. Here is the quick summary of my "cheap case" experiment.
I don't do any drop test. However, with common sense, I think we can feel a below or above average protection. I think the cases I tried are as good and some could even be than the Spigen RA I got on my Pixel1. In my opinion, there is not a lot of hitech in a case. After all, brand name cases are probably also manufactured in China in anyway.
More expensive doesn't mean better. In fact the best is the cheapest ($1.75)
Avoid the multiple layers case with a hard polycarbonate shell (#5 in photo below). They are heavy, bulky and slippery
Plan in advance! Fastest delivery is 3 weeks (ship from China to US), probably 5 if non-US. The colors of the cases shown in eBay photos are not always accurate.

My criteria of a good case is modest: good protection (corners, raised lips to protect camera and screen) and hold well in hands (no bulk and not slippery). I am not very concerned about the look. Colors is the only fancy factor. The photo above shows the models sorted by most preferred to least. Here is the rational of my ranking.
Rank #1: This case is incredible. I can't believe the cheapest case could be that good. I would even say I like it better than the Spigen rugged armor on the Pixel1 I got in the past. Very well thought, minimal bulk. I like the chamfered edges and the sanded surface on both side edges to increase grip. In spite of the glossy surface of the back, this case is NOT slippery. I am not sure how to explain that, maybe this has something todo with the Van der Waals force. The 4 corners have subtle raise to lift slightly the case/phone above a flat surface. If you knock the corner of the phone on a hard surface, you will hear a slightly muffled sound. While cases 2, 3, 4 you will hear a harder sound. Those air bubbles are not just for show.
The material is a TPU slightly harder and thick enough. Not like the softer rubbery TPU I got in the past with cheap $1 "crystal" cases. This case will turn slighly smoke/yellow in time. Personally this yellowish thing is not a problem at all. The buttons are slight hard, but fortunately I don't use that much. The case don't pick up too much dust entering by the back of the case.
Rank #2: Feel harder and slightly heavier. Add 1 millimeter in width and height compare to Case #1. The raised lip above the screen is slightly shallower than case #1. There is barely enough room for a glass screen protector. The buttons are very clicky and responsive. The button "click feel" is the best among the 5 models I tested.
Rank #3: Same dimensions as case #1 without the bubbles at the corners. The look maybe nicer if you don't like transparent case. The faux leather texture "seems" to increase grip. Actually this case is more slippery than case #1 (and also #2). This case has lower ranking simply because I feel that it's protective property is inferior. In case you are interested in this case, be aware that the colors is not always accurate on eBay. I ordered a light coffee color and got a dark gray instead. The photo above shows the navy blue model.
Rank #4: Minimal protection, barely a skin. The TPU is slightly thinner than Case#1. But still not rubbery. No raised grooves (as in case #1) to lift the case above a flat surface. Overall sloppy design, money wasted.
Rank #5: In terms of protection, this case is the best. The light gray rubber layer is not only a soft rubber but has ample air space to absorb shock. I use this case a few minutes and got immediately annoyed. It adds almost 10 millimeters to both width and height. Once the case is on, it becomes very hard to operate the phone with one hand. The back looks nice, it's a hard polycarbonate shell. But it is super slippery. I am certain I will drop the phone all the time with that case. Maybe this case is designed for rock climbers, but I really don't like it. Personally, it confirms a weird trend, each time I buy a multi-layered case, I always regret it. This one is the worst in particular, very bulky, slippery and a fragile assembling mechanism.
More photos
Notice the sanded stripe on the side-edges of the crystal case
Notice the bulk of case #5
Case #3 slighly wider by 1 millimeter
Case #3, ordered gray which looks like "light cappucino" on eBay images. The real gray is really dark.
Update 2019-05-13: After 2 months of daily use, this case now becomes my favorite. Like very much the rugged rubbery. Excellent material, thicker than the average TPU case (better protection). Hard but with a rubbery feel. Snug fit with device, give a good impression of protection. Bought 2 new colors.
