I just downloaded and installed an aosp CM based ROM. Absolutely love it.
But I do have one issue.
When I receive a voice mail I'm not getting the icon in the notification bar. Instead I'm getting a text message that seems to be coming from my number. Can anyone help figure out why this is happening. I can deal with it. But its quite annoying.

Bump.

I don't think it's an actual text message, although it looks like one. Same thing happens on my Nexus 4 with the Validus ROM.

Hi, this just started happening 2 days ago after I flashed the MIUI ROM. Everytime I get a voicemail, instead of the icon appearing in the status bar, I get a text message prompting me to call my voicemail. Is there anyway to turn this off?
I get that too. Between 2 and 5 messages per voicemail. Really friggin annoying.
My configuration is in my signature.
Text "block 9016" to 9999
That should fix it

The problem of no voicemail indicator remains.
Thanks! I do wonder if it was rom related. I'm running Rubix right now without issue.

That is part of the 'phantom voicemail' bug that is present in many AOSP ROMs. There has been a commit to the CM repos that should clear up that bug, but the newest iterations of MIUI have to be based on a CM ROM that has the big fix implemented for the 'phantom voicemails' to disappear.

What's your setup? If you integrate GV then the voicemails will come through on that. You won't get a voicemail notification via the system but rather through the GV app.
My wife abs I have retired our epics and got the gs3. We love them so far but there issue one issue we are having and that is when we send a text message it gets sent as an mms. Does anyone else have this issue and can it be resolved?

What app are you using for texting? How long are the messages you're sending?
If they're simple couple word texts, I don't know what to say, but if you get to the point where a text becomes longer than three messages, sometimes, depending on the app, it will force it to MMS instead.
We need a bit more info to see what's going on.
It's a simple text. Just a few words maybe a sentence. I'm using stock texting app. It only does it when I send it to my wife. No one else.

Hey guys, I'm asking this question in behalf of a co-worker. Her phone is brand new, stock, no root or any mods.
She starts typing in the internet address bar and, where it drops down and shows you previous Web addresses, that text is all garbled. It does it in the standard browser as well as her twitter app.
She doesn't know anything about phones so she exchanged it for a new one and it does the same thing. I've never had any problems like that on mine and I can't find anything similar on Google.
She is running the newest OTA from Rogers.
Any ideas what could resolve this?

which language she was typing?

English. The drop down text just becomes all garbled. White squiggly lines, hard to explain.

So the biggest thing I'd like in a messaging app is a back button on the top left corner. I know it's an iphone thing but I'm really used to it. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything like this? Go SMS has been good but that's the only feature I miss.

I find that the hardware back button is easier to reach.

I haven't needed to use it on this phone or my last, but you might try handcent and see if that has the functionality you're looking for.

There's more to it than that though. The back button takes you back to the last thing you were on (or at least it is suppose to) while the top left button takes you back to the first page of the app. This is a useful feature because i often press home right after finishing a text then when I reopen the app to text someone else, it takes me back to the last person I texted. Then I have to close the app and open it again.
I think the Jellybean messaging app has this.
That is exactly correct! Thanks. I found it. However, the last update broke MMS..

Handcent has the back button in the upper left corner.

I'm not rooted yet. But I am using apex launcher. Neither hand cent nor the jelly bean app show up in my notification bar

Did you look through the settings? Sometimes you have to activate it. Also deactivate the notification of the stock app.
Yeah i did. Go sms works for m

Didn't want to repost. So I'll bump this and ask.
What's the best Messaging app you're using? I'm using handcent, but I want that's fast and fluid as well (sorta like the iphone messaging app.. the only thing it does right haha)
I'm not a fan of the animations on the Stock app or Handcent. I did like 4.1 Messaging app but the MMS bug was too much
Try GO SMS PRO. Once you have it installed, go into settings>basic>running mode>lite
Also, with Go SMS Pro, you can send group text (like iPhone does it). Only thing I hate is that when getting group texts, phone becomes very slow to a frustrating point if multiple people from group text is replying at once.
Go SMS was very bloaty for me. But I'll try that. Thanks!

Finally got the wife to move over from the dark side, iPhone, to Android! It's the little things in life... Anyways, of course she wants it all pretty like the iPhone, so I've been trying to help her customize it pretty good. In the stock messaging app, you can change the theme. But, is there any way to change the color of the bar at the very top that says "Messages"? It stays blue!

I believe not yet . . I know there's a lot of people requesting the option to change the colours to their own but nothing yet . . I'm sure rooting would allow it some way but I've yet to take the plunge of rooting my M8

Thanks for the responses. Now we're having issues with the TV app. I was able to set mine up just fine. On hers, when she get to the screen where it asks for your favorite TV shows, then hits next, we get an error message... Something about not being able to retrieve the data from the server.. I've tried everything.. uninstalling the update, which just updates when you open the app, clearing the app data/cache, etc. Any ideas on this one?
