Your phone needs to have the latest TWRP or CWM installed and your bootloader must match one of the bootloaders in the list.

The list in your original post. Those bootloaders are listed in the updater script of the ROM you are trying to install.
Oh so that's a bootloader list?
I have the latest TWRP. Do you know where I can find those bootloaders?

I prefer using a CWM-based recovery because I had problems with the latest TWRP.
Which phone do you have?
Be careful with loading bootloaders, especially the 4.3 bootloader because it can't be downgraded.

Here's a link to Philz Touch: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att
You can download the latest zip and flash it in TWRP.
After that, try flashing CM11.
Ok. My phone just happens to be in the middle of a Titanium Backup operation that's going to take a while so I'll try it out tomorrow and get back to you.
Ok. I tried updating with the new recovery. No go. Tried updating the bootloader as well to one of the ones in the list. Still no go.
I got the bootloader from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898

Which recovery did you install? Which bootloader did you install? Are you doing a full wipe before installing?
I installed philz touch version 6.15.4 and I installed the modem_CWM_I747UCUEMJB bootloader.
And no I'm not doing full wipes. But what difference would it make? Should I do a full wipe then try installing a new ROM?

Yes, not wiping can cause the ROM to hang during bootup but usually doesn't cause the ROM not to install.
Well I tried wiping. Still a no go.
I'm going to reflash TWRP and then restore my original ROM backup, then see if I can flash a new CM from there.
EDIT: Actually I just realized the update I downloaded earlier was a radio update, not a bootloader update. TWRP still wouldn't install it. It was giving another weird error I didn't really bother to look at. I reflashed philz touch again and it installed like a charm.
I'll just have to remember not to restore a backup with an older bootloader again. I'll go ahead and make a new 'original' backup with a fresh install of CM.

Well, do you have the d2att or d2can s3? Try flashing back to rooted stock, factory reset, install recovery, then flash cm
It is because your recovery is saying you have a d2can recovery. Download Rom Manager from the market and flash the d2att recovery and then flashing it will not be an issue.
So I need CWM, not TWRP? Btw, I am sure that I got d2att cm.

Any suggestions?

Somehow my US-Att S3 had the Canadian boot loader (or a slightly corrupt, or an outdated bootloader<--most likely). So I found another guy with the same issue. I went to this thread and re-installed my bootloader through ODIN. Found newer versions of them from here:

Hey guys im still new to this but one thing i did figure out is i am on 4.1.2 (i assume you guys are too) and the bootloader seems to not be compatible with CM 10.1 and i am in the progress of flashing back to 4.1.1 for the old bootloader in hope that it will work ill keep updated!
***EDIT*** I just flashed back to 4.1.1 and low and behold cm 10.1.2 worked like a charm so i guess Alias18 method would be easier and quicker not sure if theres anymore risks that way though. if anyone would like the 4.1.1 firmware with root injected let me know.

My bootloader is up to date - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ostcount=13716 , I have done a factory reset prior to flash of Cm 10.1 and Gapps, I am indeed rooted, and I have also tried CWM 5.something, installed through ODIN.

Sounds like it's still a build prop issue. Are you sure you successfully updated the bootloader?
The newest cwm is 6.0.3.1. An older version may cause a failed flash.

The rom you're trying to flash doesn't support the bootloader on your phone. Try a different rom or send a message to the developer of the one(s) you want to use asking them to support the bootloader you have.
Do not try to change the bootloader on your phone you will hard brick it.

Hi everybody... I have some issue like that.
I used CM and Paranoid several times, but some curiosity makes me try the stock Rom...
So... I grab ODIN and put the 4.3 on my SGH-I747M (telcel mexican carrier)
It only takes 1 day and I start to miss the CM flavor...
So...I root by CF auto root, SuperSu, CWM... everything smooth
But I can't install any Rom, y try 3 different of each... an only get the same getprop fault
It's some new trick from Samsung?
Or do I miss some step
Help!

TELCEL, the biggest carrier in Mexico (obviously not the best)
UPDATE---> after several downloads, finally, I Install the CM 10.0
so, the Rom had the error "AOSP keyboard stopped" or something, I couldn't fill the Wifi password.
then, I say "if I put the CM 10.0, now will be able to put the 10.2.0, or the 11" ....the bootloader still kicking my a**
so.. as Far as I know, the Bootloader help us to block a Rom which is not for our device...
and is responsability of the developers make roms compatible with my bootloader/device/SGH-I747M
the only logical answer for me... the Bootloader of the 4.1 was the same of the d2att (AT&T), and when I ODIN the 4.3, the
new Bootloader its different now...
any rom made for AT&T is no more compatible with TELCEL,
in other words... my device is not longer supported.
I would flash a older Bootloader, but Im not so Brave, if I erase the IMEI or brick the device,
what you say?

Never mind, but I'd recommend to you head over to a Telcel section instead.
I had this issue as well, what you have to do is delete lines in the updater-script file and then in flashes fine. Use 7zip its under system/meta-inf/Google/android then delete the get prop lines up until the ; .
So I'm a complete noob with these rooting and etc because I never really bothered. But after updating my s3 to 4.3 its been so slow and its pissing me off. I want to install cm11 on it but I have no idea how. I rooted it using some method that doesnt void warranty called safe root. In the past i've tried to do it using twrp and the roms I found online but when I tried to install it it said md5 not found. I also tried to get CWM but couldnt get the latest version for t999l and even when I did i couldnt figure out how to install cm11.
Can someone please guide me on doing this the easiest and simplest way? And please talk to me like a little kid cause im so confused Dx.
You can use ODIN to flash CWM. Make sure you flash the most recent version of CWM Recovery. If you search here on the forum, you will find plenty of tutorial on using PC based Odin. Best if you download the correct recovery for your phone first.
If that approach appears too cumbersome, you could use Mobile Odin (you don't have to but I recommend buying the pro version).
Once the recovery is successful, when flashing the Rom, make sure you uncheck "Check MD5".

If you flashed TWRP, then under install menu you should see a checkbox for "Checking MD5". I don't use CWM so can't speak for it.

If that's the case and you did download the correct Rom for SGH-T999 then you will have to comment the Asset Statements from within the updater script.

assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2tmo" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2tmo" || abort("This package is for \"d2tmo\" devices; this is a \"" + getprop("ro.product.device") + "\".");
