first > root is not enough to install custom rom, you need custom recovery (philz or twrp), and if you are in 4.3 official you will lost your warranty (if you have). this will trigger knox flag warranty.
second > i think you can use 4.1.2 rom. if someone have tried pls confirm

How to Install a custom rom on stock 4.3 with knox

Hi All,
May you please advise how can I install a custom rom after I have already updated my Note 2 using OTA to 4.3.
I have not yet downloaded knox and enabled it.
I am basically confused how to root and install custom recovery ?
My phone is just 1 month old - If I root and install a custom rom and would like to install stock sometime in future to gain back official status and claim warranty, would I be able to do that ?
Many thanks !

Your warranty will get void if you plan to flash any custom ROM after downloading 4.3
To root/flash custom ROMs, do the needful over your current ROM, which I suppose might be 4.1.x

Thanks for the reply. Problem is, I have already upgraded to stock 4.3 using OTA update.
I am not very much liking the update because of missing note 3 features.
And now am trying to find out a way using which I can flash DN3 rom with the possibilities of rolling back to stock 4.3 to regain the warranty in worst case scenario.
Please help.
Thanks,
Nisha

You need to follow Dr. Ketan's guide.
First in order to get N3 features on 4.3 Stock you need to flash Dr. Ketan's custom Rom for note 2 4.3 MI6
Install custom recovery by flashing one from odin.
Root your phone using supersu 1.65. Flash it (but no need, dr. Ketan's rom is prerooted)

How Do I Root On 4.3 Official Firmware Without Voiding Knox?

Hey,
Flashed to 4.3 official yesterday and I now want the DN3 ROM. I saw a KNOW WARRANTY option and thought I wont root till I know what this is.
Is it safe for me to root? All I want to do is root get CWM then flash DN3 and I'll be set.
If it is safe to root, can you post a link to a guide and if it isn't any hassle a link to get CWM as when I tried to get it, it never loaded up properly and wouldn't install the DN3 from my zip (When I was on 4.1.2)
All help will be appreciated

There Is No Method To Root Without Voiding Knox Warranty....If You Want To Root Ur Phone And Remove Knox.....Try This - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48551128
As long as you have not done anything to trip it yet, flash DN3 bootloader, with your rom and you should be free of knox right?

Super Problem!!! Need help quick please!

Ok I think I'm really f*cked.
I had installed ProBAM 1.2.4 but because I had some serious problems with data loss and not making backups properly I decided to flash official 4.1.2 and then root+install recovery and install Phoenix ROM. After trying to install the 4.1.2 from SamMobile for my carrier(Cosmote GR) using dr.ketan's instructions for stock ROM ODIN said failed. Then my phone booted up and It said something like "Corrupt Android upgrade please use emergency install using Kies". So I installed Kies, followed the instructions and my phone finally booted up, all working! Now here's the problem. I opened settings and it said I had Android 4.3(it also prompted me to make a new update/OTA). So what I want is:
*How can I downgrade to official 4.1.2? I dont care about warranty.
"*How can I reset KNOX WARRANTY AVOID: 1" ? Or at least how can I root 4.3 without tripping KNOX so that I install custom recovery and install new ROM?
Thanks in advance, really need help quick.
You and me again
1. After official update to 4.3 via Kies, afaik no more downgrade to 4.1.2 cause you flashed knox-enabled bootloader too. (Check this!)
2. At this moment there is nothing known to reset knox-counter
3. Knox counter has tripped already, therefor I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531965 to root.
Stay cool and now you are in the same situation as most people here: You can test as many custom roms as you like.

@Androidwizzard YOU ARE THE MAN!!! OMG you are SOOOOO helpful!! I love when members here are soo nice and helpful to others Anyway tomorrow I will try rooting my phone using that method(I will first for to service to replace the screen like I told you ) but now after reading so many knox threads I'm confused. Here's my question. After rooting and installing Philz recovery, can I flash MJ5 Bootloader and then Phoenix ROM? I want a KNOX free ROM Thanks again
Please check your bootloader with the app z-device, cause I think after that kies-update you should have a newer BL than MJ5 and then downgrading the BL is impossible, don't even try that (in many threads you can read about that failure!)
With the newer BL you can flash all roms 4.3+ here without even thinking about wifi and so on.

@Androidwizzard Heres what I got from z-device test
https://imageshack.com/i/0wn8lep and https://imageshack.com/i/ngyrblp
So after rooting I can flash any 4.3+ ROM without problems? And how to remove KNOX?
As I have told you: It is a newer BL! (Trying to downgrade will end in bootloop and errors).
And as mentioned in Post #2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531965
for me the best and easy way to root and deknox :good: if you are sure, that knox-count is x1

@Androidwizzard So first I flash Philz recovery with ODIN and then boot into recovery and flash dr.ketan's aroma tool to root and deKNOX right? Do I have to DeKNOX everytime I flash a new ROM or just once?
You do it only one time, cause custom roms are deknoxed :good:
In the moment you have an official rom with knox.

@Androidwizzard Soo(sorry for being annoying :/) Flash Philz with odin->Flash dr.ketan's tool with recovery->Root->DeKNOX->Flash Phoenix ROM

Well not really 100% sure, you need to deknox with the tool, if you flash a custom rom immediatly, but it won't be wrong, so do it that way.

TMO Kit Kat Update Q&A Thread

In an attempt keep thread questions down to a minimum and let it be used for development specific questions. I ask that you post general update questions here. I will keep this updated as best I can.
1. Q: How do I update to official T-Mobile release?
A: You can go back to stock and accept the OTA. Or you can download the Update.zip HERE . There are other links from Tesh and Allenjthomsen on their individual threads. (thanks Allen for the update.zip and Dirtybudha for the ftp server)
2. Q: Should I flash the update so I can have the new bootloader?
A: At this time we are waiting for the release of more custom kernels and there are 2 recoveries that will work with the new bootloader
3. Q: Can I go back to 4.3 once I flash?
A: If you flash the new bootloader, you will not be able to odin back to use 4.3 roms. But you can custom flash 4.3 with new Mi7 bootloader and kernels made for that purpose.
4. Q: If I update my N3 will I still have root?
A: At this time, you can gain root using CF-Auto root, but you will lose custom recovery
5. Q: Will flashing the update trip Knox if I originally rooted using De-La Vega?
A: No, flashing the update will simply update your phone to 4.4.2. But trying to flash a custom recovery will trip Knox to 0x1. kingoapp.com does not work as per a user that tried it
6. Q: Can I load TMO Kit Kat without updating bootloader?
A: Yes. You can flash any rom.zip from the dev thread using custom 4.3 Kit Kat Kernels that allow 4.4.2 to run off the 4.3 bootloader.
7. Q: Are there any TMO Kit Kat kernels already in circulation?
A: . Yes. Check the Original Android Development thread.
8. Q: I tried flashing the new posted Odexed and Deodexed roms but get stuck at boot. What's wrong?
A: The new boot.img (Kernel) included in these roms are based off the Kit Kat kernel release. They will not work on the 4.3(Jellybean MI7) bootloader unless you usea custom kernel
9. Q: After I update to official release, how do I get root back?
A: You will need to ODIN CF-Autoroot once you have updated. WARNING: YOU WILL TRIP KNOX USING CF-AUTOROOT
10. Q: Has anyone found a custom recovery that works with the NB4 Bootloader?
A: Yes, it has been noted that Philz recovery and the N9005 TWRP is being tested as per BigBiff's recommendation and is noted as working.
11. Q: Can I flash just the bootloader and the modem?
A: Yes, but you will have compatibilty issues unless you flash one of the two Kit Kat compatible recoveries.
12. Q: I Odined the NB4 file and my phone just sits at black screen with blue recovery on it. Did I do something wrong?
A: NO, there seems to be a glitch in the Odin process. Reboot your phone into download mode and re-Odin the file and it will complete successfully.
13 Q: I have read that there is a way to root Kit Kat without tripping Knox. Is this true?
A: Yes, there is a process that can be used but is not recommended as you can brick your phone and my not be able to recover from the brick.
Kit Kat Kernels :
Wootevers Kernel (TMO Original Android Development thread)
Civato's Kernel (N9005 Original Android Development Thread)
ColonelX R13 (CURRENTLY BEING BUILT AND TESTED)
If anybody see's a Frequently asked question i'm missing. please let me know. Trying to keep up with all 4 threads.
Thanks
If you use the official update, you will get the extSDCard read/write errors back, as they are part of Kit Kat .
to fix, once rooted on the official rom, Open the platform.xml file just like in the custom Kit Kat roms and make it look like this
Code:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
<group gid="sdcard_r"/>
<group gid="sdcard_rw"/>
<group gid="media_rw"/>
</permission>
That "SHOULD" fix the read/write problems. Kit Kat is made to only read and write to the internal storage to keep Android running smoothly as people sometimes by cheap laggy sdcards.

I think the big one is people looking for clarification on whether the bootloader is locked or not.
I see a lot of conflicting posts. Mainly from those who don't understand kernel dependencies as they pertain to the boot process.

That we cannot confirm until Biff gets home and has had a chance to compile a kernel specifically for this bootloader.

if you know how to use the tar file yes. Everything else you are spot on.
Although I've seen some ask this question, I would like some clarification as there is still some conflicting info being spread throughout 4 or 5 threads
From what I gather:
The new 4.4 bootloader now has custom recovery through use of either the TWRP biff posted or the new PhilZ. Both confirmed working.
My question is, does this affect us now being able to custom flash 4.3 roms without having to Odin back to 4.3 just to flash 4.3 roms...if that even is something that is 100% true that we can do since some people say yes we can odin back to 4.3 and some say no.
And with the new bootloader, we should theoretically be able to flash all of the custom 4.4 N9005 ROMs just fine?

Sorry. No, you cannot flash 4.3 roms via custom recovery once you use the new bootloader. But, yes technically you should be able flash Int. Roms now.

Help needed for unrooting

Hi guys I've had my note II for quite awhile (2 years) and I've rooted it back then installed custom ROM and recovery, not quite sure if a custom kernel is installed. Currently still on 4.1.2 and TWRP installed.
To unroot, I researched that i'll just have
Use Triangle Away and reset my counter.
Flash official firmwares from sammobile
The question here now is that do will my device be kept as official/normal and flash counter 0?? Because some of the steps shown are quite ambiguous and I just want to make sure that I can sell the phone!
Thanks in advance!!

Well, you will need to flash official firmware 4.1.2 first. The status of the phone will be official.
Then, root the phone and install + update Super SU. Use triangleaway to reset the counter.
Then, fully unroot using Super SU. Your phone should certainly fetch you a good dowry.
Press thumps up if you found this suggestion helpful.

hmm is there anywhere that I can find the official 4.1.2 firmware? Sammobile only has the latest versions.. Also, is it possible to retain root when I flash the original firmware?

Go to samsung-updates.com and click firmware archive.
There is a list of 4.1.2 firmwares. Find one for your country.
Also, if your country is not listed, you can flash 4.1.2 from any country in your region provided that your phone is Galaxy Note 2 international (N7100)
If not, you may have to settle from may be 4.3 or 4.4.
Lastly, you cannot retain root. You will have to follow the procedure mentioned in the earlier reply.
