[Q] NFC Project - NFC Hacking

Hello everyone
I am doing a project as part of my final year in engineering, and the project is an automated toll collection system, using NFC payment method. So I need to know if my idea is feasible.
I have a Nexus 5 and my friend and team mate has an HTC One. Our idea is to tap the phone with our NFC app open, on a "payment terminal" which will send details to the terminal over NFC, and that terminal must verify these details of the user (USERNAME & PASSWORD) and call a java web service, and return some other information back to the phone over NFC. Since we do not have a "terminal" as such, we plan on using one of the phones as a "customer phone" and the other as the "terminal".
I know I can develop an app for the Nexus 5 that can easily handle this, but is the same freedom available with the HTC One?
There are two apps we'll be using:
1. Client app on phone1 that sends user details over NFC to "terminal"(phone2)
2. Terminal app on phone2 that receives details over NFC and eventually returns confirmation to phone1.
I'd like to know which phone will work best as phone1 and phone2.
All help is greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance

Please guys, it'd be great if someone shed some light on the matter. Its a little urgent Thanks!

They should be equal for using nfc as it runs independently from each ROM, but just to be safe you should USE the NEXUS 5 as your terminal because of stock android.
Good Luck

Thanks, I just wanted to know if the HTC one can be used for NFC development, and if its NFC feature can be used feely.

Google Now vs Robin?

Which one do you guys prefer and why? I personally cannot find any use of google now while robin is very helpful in my opinion...

I like both but its nice to see a new fully functional voice assistant

I suggest trying utter!
It is currently in beta but has a distinct advantage over other voice commands which is customizability and it can execute tasker tasks.

I have not tried Robin but will give it a try. I like Google Now. The widget occupy's a 4*4 space on my home screen and it keeps me up to date with the local weather, my next appointment/work schema, how much time it takes me get to work and to get home. Every now and the I will be reminded with a picture and name that a friend on Google+ is having a birthday.
Other cards turn up and when I open Google Search!
The only voice commands I use are simple ones such as currency checks or a quick math problem.
I like Google Now.

Utter uses whatever voice engine you choose. So the misunderstanding part is usually due to the person not saying the command correctly. It has to be exact.

I find that I use Google Now a lot. I rely pretty heavily on searching for locations on my desktop, then having an estimated time of arrival listed as a card on my phone that I can easily set as a navigation target. The ability to pull my calendar events and tell me when I need to leave due to traffic is also quite helpful.

{UPDATED} Smart Remote for Galaxy S4 - RETURNED TO PLAY STORE! FLOATING REMOTE ADDED

UPDATE: There has been an update released since returning to the Play Store yesterday. The biggest things would be the addition of a floating (chatheads-esque) remote and a backup/restore option (linked to your Google account).
---------------------------------------------------------
As of this morning, 7/26, Smart Remote is back in the Play Store. No update yet, but knowing them one will be available within a day.
---------------------------------------------------------
If you, like me, have been wondering where your favorite remote app for the GS4 went and when is coming back, I just got an email from the developer.
Hi
The app is off the market because of an error on Google's part since July 2nd . It is not something that we can do and they are saying the app will be available again in about 7 working days.*
In the meantime we are working to come back with new cool features.*
If you uninstalled the app we can provide a link where you can download it and use it untill we will be back . We are also offering full support like always .*
Regards
Alina
I can't wait to see the new features. These guys have always been very responsive to user request and input. Hopefully next week we'll see is return to the Play Store.
---------------------------------------------------------
I just got a follow up email after asking if she might share what some of these features might be:
Hi Kenan,
The problem is that the competition already copied our app, and making these features public would give them a head start releasing them before we even get a chance to. Just believe us when we say that it will be a lot faster for you to access your remotes, install the app on your other devices and automate tasks.*
Thank you,
Alina
thank you for the info

Is a customizable app for the IR blaster. You'll be able to control most things with an IR port, from your TV to your air conditioner. For me it's completely replaced every remote in my house. Think of it as a much more handy and powerful Logitech Harmony remote, macro commands included. Plus the developers are very responsive (within a day many times) to adding devices.

I never uninstalled the app and have it backed up. I don't want to just pass out a link since the app only has a paid version. You can email them [email protected], I'm sure they would provide you with the information.

As I said, it's a paid app so I'm not going to post a download link or provide the file. If the developers want to provide one to you that's up to them. I would write them an email and ask. But it should be back in the Play Store this week.
Awesome, I'll download the app once it's back out. Let us know. Thanks

I thought I was crazy. Haha. I purchased the app, but went flash happy with new roms and didn't do a backup of it... Went to download it from the store again and it was gone! I emailed Google and got some canned response that "they were unable to refund my purchase" which wasn't what I had asked at all. Anyway, glad it's back!
Do you need to have the TouchWiz ROM, or will it work on AOKP?

Just shows how much "control" they have over our devices!
I could see ADM being a big deal for Nexus owners or people who own phones that the manufacturer doesn't provide a wipe/tracking feature for. Samsung's Find My Mobile (ex-Dive) has been around for two years and has more features than Google's ADM. Does anyone see any features or benefits ADM provides over Find My Mobile?

if we track phone using samsung dive or use any feature like fetching call records, phone gets notification about task done, where as using ADM... no notification comes...

And notification's a bad thing? What if someone hacks your Google account and is tracking you via ADM or maliciously sends a wipe command to your phone? Without any notification you'd have no idea. The first thing I'd do on FMM if I truly lost my phone is remote lock it, even before tracking it. The lock command you send to the device allows you to have a 100 character message appear on the lock screen along with a number to call about returning the phone. Which by the way isn't something you can even do (yet) with ADM. Once it's locked the person who finds it (or stole it) can't do anything with it including turning off its wireless signal(s) or reading notifications. And if the phone's in your possession and you track it, ring it or pull a call log who cares that there's a notification? I kind of see your point though in that if the phone's been intentionally stolen the thief could see the FMM tracking notice in the notification bar (there's no audible alert) if the phone wasn't locked first. But a thief that knows Android would immediately hard reset the phone (or disable Wi-Fi and mobile data) right after stealing it which renders both ADM and FMM useless anyway.
It's useless if ur phone is stolen. But very useful if u forgot where u placed your phone. Getting it to ring enables me to find My phone much easier instead of calling myself
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4
All of this is useless because it is enough for someone that steals/finds your phone to take out the SIM card and no way any software can tell you where it is... so it is very limited help.
Will this require the internet to be turned on my phone?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4
Yup. It basically connects to your samsung account which your phone is logged on to. A hard reset will remove your samsung account login details so this is really useless if stolen.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4
What about hardreset? Will ADM survive from a hardreset?
Don't expect too much since it's an added free feature. I'm personally using Cerberus which have full of features and I don't compare the two side by side. Maybe you don't need it now but this small new feature will be of help when you really need it.

NFC Pranks?

Bought some NFC tags for my S3 and going to give one to a friend to use on his NFC.
I want to put something funny on it but can't come up with anything? It needs to work without requiring a special app, I thought about making it auto send a text but that's not possible, it just opens the message app with the text.
I tried opening a certain 'comedy' website featuring a song by the group "Dead or Alive", but sadly it's a flash site so that's out the picture.
Any other ideas of what I can do, or even similar websites that will work on android, or ones that play sound loudly or whatever. Shock factor would be good.

Thanks did this, worked well, they'd not used NFC before so was good. They weren't that bothered about NFC though, didn't want the tag I was giving them.

How about putting a strong NFC sender in his house so when he walks past it it opens a website, forexample: www.kittenwar.com Rick roll, trololol, a porn site ect. ect...
I know this is maybe not exactly whay u want and im unsure if its possible witg nfc tag but maybe (for the messaging trick) use nfc tage to open the text message app u want to send with the text predisplayed then.
adb start-server
adb connect localhost:5038
Input keyevent (key no. required)
E.g. key 7 is number 14
Just use key number for tab so it highlights the send.key and then input key code for enter key.
Let me know how this works out .

I wouldnt trust it, until theres an app coming from apple.
According to The Verge the data is sent to China then to Apple. They recommend using throwaway Apple ID's instead of your primary one

Not only that though but apparently the app can install apks on your device without your permission if installed. I wouldn't trust this app at all. Cool concept but providing too much access to the developer and who knows who else.
I also read about this app. For Apple devices to think it's an apple device messaging them, the text you send, has to go to a third party server in China, and then to the recipient. Use at your own risk.

Your advice would work... if Google hadn't already pulled it from the Play Store.
Can somebody Please PM me with the apk or post it here ? The app was free (I guess), so it isn't warez right ?
EDIT: I found the app, but when I try to login the verify goes to about 50% and then nothing happens. Anybody else having this problem ?
