[TUTORIAL][SOFTKEYS] Change Softkeys at GNex with ZipThemer and without (CM11) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Problem at CM11 is that the SoftkeyZ app doesnt work.
This is baecause of the following problem:
The folder is normally /system/app (for SoftkeyZ),
but in cm11 it is /system/priv-app.
But it can be done manually by two Methods.
Not only for CM11
You need :
-Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=de
First Method:
Now:
-Go to /system/priv-app/SystemUI.apk
-Extract to sd card
-Go to folder of the softkey you downloaded and put the .png files to :
/SystemUI/res/drawable-xhdpi
-Paste them and overwrite the old files.
-Zip the SystemUI folder with the new data.
-Go to SystemUI.zip and rename "SystemUI.zip" to "SystemUI.apk".
-Put the renamed SystemUI.apk to the /system/priv-app.
-Overwrite the old SystemUI.apk.
-Reboot manually ( the SystemUI.apk is mostly crashed at the first time doing this).
-After reboot set permissions of the SystemUI.apk to rw-r-r
Second Method: (Tested only at CM11)
ZipThemer is usable with this Method and you can make FLASHABLE ZIPS!
-Download the softkeys you want
- Extract them .
- Go to folder of the extracted
- There is one folder named "SystemUI" and a "nameofsoftkeys.xml"
- Open the .xml file with Text editor it look like this :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
- Then change the line "<path>/system/app/</path>" to "<path>/system/priv-app/</path>"
- Save settings and go back. (delete the "nameofsoftkeys.xml.bak")
- Zip the folder where the SystemUI folder and the .xml file is included
- Go to Zipthemer (NOTE: Extras -> Update Edify -> browse for actually ROM -> Configure !! If not it may not work.)
- Go back to ZipThemer and search at "+Theme" for the new Zip
- Build it. And then go to Recovery and flash the zip. If this doesn't work then flash the undo.zip to reactivate the old softkeys.
Done

there in the framework-res.apk and easy to replace, if you find some emoticons you like i can replace them for you
can u tell the method in PLAIN ENGLISH please?
Same as the guy above..oh and if it's not too much to ask, can you pls give us a step by step guide on how to do this.
1. Extract your framework-res.apk. you will find it in /system/framework/.
2. download and install 7zip, on your pc.. its a free program.
3. on your pc, right click on your extracted framework-res.apk, find the 7zip contex menu, and click on open archive (DONT EXTRACT IT)
4. A box will open, now navigate to the \res\drawable-hdpi-v4\ folder, inside there you will find the emoticons, they have names like "emo_im_cool.png" and "emo_im_crying.png". find some suitable replacement emoticons, and rename them to the match the file names in the folder.
5. just drag and drop your new emoticons in the folder, and replace the existing ones.
6. close 7zip. now download the update.zip template i've attached at the bottom, unzip it and copy your modified framework to the framework folder inside the zip, go back to the root of the zip and zip it back up.
7. copy the update.zip to the root of your sd card and flash it from recovery
I found an easier solution, will post it IF succesful
But what if you just want to replace the text instead of the image?
I'm using the gingerbread keyboard and it has this smiley button, but how can i change them?
I created a guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11094721#post11094721

After copying the file, in root explorer, long-click on the file, then click on permissions.. and set the permissions in 9 boxes like this
x x -
x - -
x - -
when i try to alter permisions ,permision change was not sucsesful,please note that some files systems [eg sd cards] do not allow permision changes
When trying to d/l the icons.rar file message pops up saying the download was blocked by smartscreen filter. Just thought you might like to know that. The filter obviously sees this download as malicious.
Hm i don't know why.No viruses for sure.
Do these work on any I9000 gingerbread rom ie XXJW4? or are they just Galaxy S 2? and if they do work on SGS1 i allready have a theme installed (Boeffla Mod 3.0) so could i change his icons with yours or does it only apply to stock themes?
How do you change the horizontal lines (green) below the touchwiz icons in the quickpanel? Is it an image file or an xml that changes the green? I wanted to change those lines to blue to match the icons that I made (stock ICS styling) Thanks in advance!

That will work if you use the System Theme right? But if you use other CM7 themes like ICS by Achep it will be replaced right?

Make your choice lol:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=energy star bios bootanimation
That bootanim exists everywhere, maybe the most diffused ever.
I wanted to make a cwm zip for you but after having a look in the bootanimation.zip from here you can be sure it won't work (someone tested it?Not even sure your device will boot,pretty rare to be that buggy for a bootanim..)
I found one Samsung Galaxy S tagged, only bad side is that it's maybe a little too fast (30fps) we could reduce that later if you want.
For now if you want to test here's a cwm zip that will push it to data/local (I prefer it like this, that way you'll keep your bootanim even if you upgrade your rom unless you wipe data).

Thanks! remind me of my old PC
is it good for i9001 too? it's my first boot animation...

How To Use Your Favourite Images As Icons For Quick Setting Toogles

How to use your favourite Images as Icons for Quick setting toogles
Hi everyone..
Today I wanna share a little trick with all of you...
Are you bored of seeing same icons in status bar and notification panel Everyday..
Have you ever think of changing icons according to your wish,,,
Here is the detailed Procedure..
** u must be rooted and deodexed your phone ****
( U can do it on your mobile or in your PC or Laptop )
I'm showing u here how to do it on PC because doing first time in mobile you may get confused
step 1 : download any file manager app that gives access to root folder like "Root Explorer" or "ES file explorer" or "Rot Browser" (all are available on playstore)
step 2: open the app and go to the this location "root-system-app" folder... in "app" folder.. see for systemui.apk
if it is not there see in "priv-app" folder
step 3: now copy that systemui.apk to your PC or laptop (make a new folder and place it there)
step 4 : now keep your mobile aside
step 5 : rename SystemUI.apk as SystemUI.zip (remove. apk and type .zip)
step 6 : extract that and in that you see "res" folder in that "drawble hdpi" folder... in some drawble xhdpi
step7 : you see all icons there.. now replace those icons with the custom icons of your wsh
step 8 : rename it same as the origina file and overwrite it.
step 9 : now select all the folders and zip it and name it as SystemUI.zip and copy it to your phone Extsd card
step 10 : now open root explorer and rename it as SystemUI.apk
step 11 : now copy that paste it to "app " folder or "priv-app" folder (from where you copied first time)
step 12: your phone automatically reboots , if not change permissions to rw-r-r and reboot manually
that's all .. now your grand became something different from others :highfive:
** Remember : your new icon size should be same size as the old one. (resize it using microsoft picture manager)
: icon must be .png format
