wotan unlock - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i unlocked this bootloader with wotan server, should have asked before i did it but does that break the hdmi feature?
if not will flashing a custom rom and kernel break that feature?

HDMI is ROM related. Unlocking the bootloader will remove the DRM keys so you cannot use Sony's exclusive features like TrackID.
A stock based custom ROM like UHD should still have HDMI functionality. Any other custom ROM like CyanogenMod will not have HDMI functionality.

UHD? im kinda new to the arc, got one for 15 bucks and forcing my wife off the iphone with it.
when i search for uhd im flooded with hundreds of unrelated pages. would be mind pointing me in the proper direction?
oh is it that ultimate hd ics based one?

[Q] I need help with my Xperia Arc.

Hi, I just bought a Xperia Arc and I'm fairly new to the Android system. I was wondering how I could customize it, I've heard rooting the device is the way to go. Could someone please explain in simple words how to do that. Just to let you know I've heard you have to unlock the bootloader first but I don't even know what that is so I'm a rookie. Thanks.
Well first off, there's a bunch of customizing that you can do without rooting. Wallpapers and ringtones are simple things. The biggest customizing comes from changing your launcher. The launcher controls your home screens and your app drawer. The default one is good but it's a little too slow for me. I use Launcher Pro (can get it from the market), but there are loads of other launchers. The beauty of Android is that you can try them all and pick the one that works the best for you. ADW is another fav launcher of these forums. Just do a search in the market for "launcher" and you'll get a bunch. Some are free, some aren't.
As for rooting, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to root. In fact, if you have a branded phone (i.e. Rogers,O2,AT&T, etc) you can't unlock your bootloader....but you can root. Do a search for Gingerbreak on the forum for inductions. The reason why you want to root is to give your self a little more control over the phone and allow for heavier customization. If you have a branded phone rooting allows you to uninstall some of the unwanted software that your provider puts on the phone, also know as bloatware.
If there's certain thing you want to customize try searching this forum. There's a good chance someone has has a post on it....and it'll prevent you from getting yelled at for posting a question that someone already has.
Android is awesome and is a modder's/customizer's dream. If you want a sample of done of the different things you can do go to the themes/apps section and look for the post titled "Post your screen shots" or something like that. It's amazing how the same phone can look and operate so differently.

Thanks a lot, I tried the Launcher pro on my Atrix cuz Motoblur sucked. So since my phone was originally from Rogers and i unlocked it for Fido i shouldn't try to unlock the bootloader? I was thinking someone was gonna tell me to check another thread instead of posting one, but thanks for the tips. I'll keep working on the phone.
hey I AM also a owner of arc
i want to know is rooting will be available for 2.3.3 ?

yes but unlike the 2.3.2 of the arc, bootloader needs to be unlock first.

but apart from Blagus who else is working?

Because it was a branded phone you can't unlock the bootloader. Sony is only allowing unbranded phones to have their bootloaders unlocked. So unless someone find a way to hack the bootloader you'll have to live with regular root...assuming someone find a way to root 2.3.3. Right now only 2.3.2 is rootable.

[Q] Question about Xperia S UI in ICS and Kernel stuff.

Do you guys think the ICS update will make the interface of our Arc look like the one of Xperia S?
Because I was watching some demos and it looks incredible , especially the music player is way better than the stock one on Arc. I noticed that a certain user called FlamEmo managed to port the Xperia S theme to Arc, and it seems to be working alright, other than some bugs, so I assume there would be no problem such as "Arc is not powerful enough" or stuff like that, so SE really has no excuse not to give that interface (or an improved version of it, since XS has 2.3.7 right now) to every 2011 Xperia phone with ICS.
And my second question, can you tell me exactly what happens if you unlock the bootloader? And by that I mean, which features are lost, which limitations are introduced as soon as you unlock it?
Thanks in advance and have a nice day
Unlocking bootloader you will lose warranty, erase some sectors, hability to set custom kernels...
And yes, ICS will be equal to Xperia S, but when SE release and official rom, or XDA guys exchange a new ROm
About the bootloader unlock, I meant if it would cause me to lose some functionality on stock apps and stuff like that. I've heard the music widget, TrackID and some other stuff stops working if you unlock. Where can I find a complete list of things that stop working or change when you unlock the bootloader? I want to know because I'd like to try CM but obviously I can't without unlocking.
Also, if they really improve upon the S theme and bring it to every Xperia with ICS, that would be seriously awesome. Have they officially commented about that?

There are 2 things not working after unlocking:
TrackID (but keep in mind that there is already a market edition)
MusicLike in FB

I haven't heard such stuff.
But I think SE/Sony will do their best (and that's always great, imo).

Thanks man. I don't care about Facebook (I may be one of the very few on the planet that don't use it) or TrackID (actually, I liked it for identifying tracks over the radio, but I can live without that. I haven't tried the market version yet). What about bricking with updates? ICS is coming and I wouldn't like it if I could not update instantly, but I assume someone will make a flashtool flashable version quite soon. Can I update normally using SEUS even if I'm unlocked?
That would be all, and thanks.

[Q] Sprint Gnex lockscreen question

Ok so I have a question. I have had the gnex on Sprint's networks for about a week now and was curious as to if one can add additional apps to the unlock screen in addition to the default ones (camera and unlock), such as your txt msg'ing app or pandora or something like that. Is this possible? Or would I have to put a different ROM on the phone like CM9?
Running stock 4.0.4
custom ROMs include it. There are also apps that replace your lockscreen. I believe "Widgetlocker" is one. "MagicLocker" is another.

Well I was kind of hoping that there was one built into ICS versus downloading any application (I'm a huge minimalist with apps. If there's a decent built in one, I'd rather use that then downloading one). I think I've used something like both WidgeLocker and MagicLocker back when I had an HTC Evo. Anywho, I guess from what you're saying is that there isn't a built in way in ICS to do what these two apps do?
Try aokp or gummy.

4.1

Rom 4.1 to be released in the Ark s?
Nope, not from SONY.
No one of the 2011 Xperias will get JellyBean.
You have to flash CyanogenMod10 (CM10) or other AOKP based ROM.
Look on the link in the first line in my signature, in this thread you find a lot of ROMs.
This ROM supports Bravia Thecnologie? If not, will them support in futere? It's possible?

Which ROM ? CM10? Don´t know, have not tested it.
But look in the threads of the ROMs, there you always find a Changelog, or can ask questions there.

So maybe Bravia engine is just available in stock-based ROMs.
Like HDMI....
HDMI can be replaced with DNLA server or antoher method. I put video in HDusb connected with router and i watch them on tv lcd 40" through router with server DLNA. There are more method for watch video in HD but Bravia engine is not replaceable on the smart.
So maybe Bravia engine is just available in stock-based ROMs.

Yep, that´s what i mean.
No original Sony JB, so no Bravia & HDMI on custom JB.
I really hope Sony will give the driversources to the XDA-Devs... would be great if they don´t want make a 4.1/4.2 stockROM. :fingers-crossed:
Well, DLNA is an option, and i also use it, but it´s cool to watch movies at a friend just using the miniHDMI/HDMI cable at a friend who has no network attached TV.

I agree with you though i don't think that Sony give their source, at least until they have updated their devices to jb
Yea, but i don´t think that they ever will do that for us Xperia2011 owner, even if the 2012 all have their JB.
Maybe they are afraid that the XDA-Devs do the better job than their programmers....
and there also will probably be copyright things with qualcomm and other companys.

[Q] Xperia S Jelly Bean With Working 1080p Video recording

Hi,
I'm new here. I searched lot of posts with ROMs and couldn't find some Jelly Bean ROM with proper 1080p video recording (without laggs like in stock) for my Sony Xperia S.
Is there some Jelly Bean ROM with all working functions? I really don't have time to search (kids,0-24job) more and I will be very grateful if someone give me some link for such ROM if it exist at all.
sorry on my English if I wrote something wrong.
Phone has unlocked bootloader, it's rooted and recoverx is installed.
Thank You.

Disable stabilisation feature and run something like niabocs Rom. Very little lag here.
Besides, I stand still generally when I'm filming.

I did that thing with disabling stabilisation in stock rom 6.2.B.0.210 and 6.2.B.0.211 what people suggested but that didn't work for me.
I'm looking for Jelly Bean without any lag in 1080p recording like in ICS where everything works but on Jelly Bean wifi, battery life,performance... are much better. I'll wait proper Jelly Bean rom for Xperia S where everything work without need to disable some feature to gain other.
Thanks.

Best keep the question threads in the Q&A thread, it's there for a reason.
Turning off stabilisation does reduce the lags a bit. But there's no Rom fixing the FullHD recording, we'll just have to be patient, if a solution ever comes. To be honest I always prefered to record at 720p. 1080p is just for bragging that it works, but it occupies so much space and didn't look that impressive from the start.
