Which wireless charger should I buy ? - Nexus 5 Accessories

I recently purchased a Google Nexus 5 and I'm looking to buy a wireless charger. I've narrowed down the options to the official Google wireless charger (2013) and the Tylt vÜ. Keep in mind that I have the capacities to buy either one but not both. Any help would appreciated. So according to your opinion which one should I buy ? Thank you for your time !!!

Between those two, I would absolutely go with the official Google Nexus 5 wireless charger.
Before you consider the Tylt, read this thread. It goes in depth about the overheating issues it causes with the Nexus 5.

I like nillkin Magic Disk wireless charger

Just purchased this:
http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Lugu...=UTF8&qid=1391955267&sr=8-1&keywords=lugulake
because it also functions as a mobile charger.

I have the lugulake wireless charger/power bank. It's going well

Charging my Nexus or charging the Lugulake?
I end up using a very short cable when charging my phone trough the USB port of the lugulake , I find that it's faster then the provided cable .

Seems I'm the only one who answered his question....
The OP asked for help choosing between 2 SPECIFIC chargers that he has already decided on. People seems to like to toss in their own personal choices, which doesn't help answer his question.

If I were the OP I'd appreciate the option of other products as well. Even if he doesn't, it doesn't hurt to simply ignore our suggestions.
There's no need to be so smug.
Have a nice day.

Not being smug, I'm trying to keep on topic, and steer it back in the direction the OP requested. Too many threads veer way off topic quickly/get hijacked because people ignore the main point of the thread. This one was to help choose between 2 specific chargers.
I don't use either of the options the OP listed (I have 6 different Qi charger styles), but I wanted to help him out by staying on topic and answering his question. There are tons and tons of other Qi options out there, but the OP has made up his mind. To not even bother answering his question, but instead only list your own personal choice, is not really helping, it's ignoring his request completely.

of the two I would go with the google...there have been issues with the tylt.
IF however you were looking for another option - I have this
http://www.nillkin.com/english/proshow.asp?mid=2&sid=3&tid=0&cid=6&scid=9&id=3768
and it is fan freakin tastic. Works flat, on an angle with the kickstand, or ad a cradle with arms and kickstand. I got it for 30 off amazon (it is normally 39.99 I had a free 10.00 credit). Has three induction coils so always hits the charger spot. I use it with kickstand and arms to lay nexus 5 on side next to my bed so I can use it as an alarm clock, then grab and go when I go to work. Thinking about getting a second one for work and travel I like it so much.

Buy the official one. Would buy it myself if it was available in my country.

Check for Nokia DT910, great charger with good view angle

Get the TYLT. I haven't had ANY issues with it at all. I have both of these chargers and don't even use the official one anymore. It got a little irritating to try to find the right spot where it would start charging the phone, so I got the TYLT and haven't looked back.

+1. Just ordered one myself because I heard of too many overheating problems with the Tylt. I do have the Official Nexus Charger and it works well, but I want something that stands the phone up. I don't know if the OP has a preference as to how the phone is sitting on the charger to help make his decision.

To Glenroebuck : Does it cause any overheating issues ? Because one of the big reasons I steered away from small 3rd party manufacturers was the fear of the accessory causing permanent damage to my device ? So in your experience has this Nillkin wireless charger caused you any problems ?
P.S. : Any other suggestion than the ones I suggested you would appreciated.
To all : The tilt feature in the Tylt vu doesn't matter to me all that much, it's just an added bonus. I'm just looking for a good charger that won't overheat my phone or cause me any trouble. Sorry I can't post a comment to your post (still under 10 posts). And does this Nokia charger cause you any problems to those how have purchased it ?

I have not heard of any issues with the Nokia charger and the N5. Even though the Tylt has overheating problems, its more popular than the Nokia. I know the company will replace your Tylt if you have overheating but you have a 50/50 chance of getting another one that does the same thing until they figure out how to fix it. I know people have had luck with the Tylt putting the bottom of the phone on first and rolling it onto the charger and they haven't been having as much overheating issues.

I have not had any over heating issues. One thing to note it comes with the usb cable but not the wall plug in - I just used my wall adapter. I use it for my n5 the 2103n7 and our lg optimus g pro in the household. All work great other than the competition to get on the stone first lol.

Update : I've decided to take the Tylt vü out of the running because of the overheating problems. Now do you guys recommend buying the 2012 Google wireless charger (the orb) or the 2013 flat model ? Keep in mind that I always have a case on my phone

Charger for the car?

Hey everyone,
I'm planning on buying a car charger for my phone soon as I take a lot of road trips and now that I finally have a phone with navigation I thought this would be really handy to have.
My question is: What is the best cell phone charger? What should I be looking for? I hear that some chargers can burn out the battery if left in for too long.
Also, I'd like a charger that would be able to power my ipod as well.
Thanks!
Edit:
I was browsing around and saw this one:

Comments on it?
Look in the captivate general thread for this discussion ...
Why would this be in general? this is an accessory is it not..?
the only thing I can say about that is ...

The answer your question is there regardless.
The answer to your question is a bit more involved than yes or no, and involves USB standards.
Perhaps it should be moved ... not my call to make.
i just bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230503161988
for $8 not bad
I got mine free from Wal-mart when I bought my captivate and it does a good job of charging it.

Got this same exact one and a blackberry micro usb charger. Works great.
For the love of God don't cheap out... Been there, done that, don't waste the $$$.
Cables that work for $1.70:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QATRCA/ref=oss_product
A quality Griffin charger for $11.50:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q2FM5E/ref=oss_product
You haven't by chance verified that the $1.70 cable fits well in the Captivate slot?
I only ask because I have a mini-to-micro USB adapter I'm using with a mini USB cable right now and it appears to fit in fine. Unfortunately in reality the plastic around the male piece blocks it from slotting in fully and I have to fiddle with it to ensure it's in well enough to charge. Moving the phone in the slightest can dislodge it and sever the connection.
I'd like to buy this cable to work with my current home/car USB chargers but wanted to make sure it wouldn't have the same issue.

AT&T not as good as Samsung
I bought the AT&T branded Captivate car charger at the AT&T store, but I've noticed that it doesn't fit into the phone's slot as smoothly as the wall charger that came with the phone. Because of battery power decrease problems, I've just ordered another wall charger from the Samsung website (for use at work) instead of getting a 'generic' one from AT&T.

I looked at this baby in an AT&T corporate store after popping open the package. There is no indication whatsoever about the mA. Forget asking a store clerk. They look at you like a deer in headlights.

I've got a griffin powerjolt dual ... works like a champ. I do not believe that it is a rapid charger and that it only puts out the USB2 standard 500mA per port. I personally do not like rapid chargers as I've seen problems with them in the past ... but ymmv.

Very pricey, I want it. I'll have to see catch it at a deal.
The Tylt definitely is a looker, but I can't justify spending that much on a charger.
I just want something around $15 - $25 that outputs higher than 1A... I want to at least attempt to come close to the max Qi for the Nexus 5.
The cheap $15 one I have right now is 1A max output (so less of course) and I'd say it charges a little over half as fast as the stock charger.
I don't want to spend higher than that for essentially a glorified usb cable.
Missed out on the tylt deal (also already have the nexus) so I couldnt get one. So trying the diy route
Yeah I'm with you guys, they definitely charge a premium for it. I missed out on the sale too but bought it anyway and I'm glad I did. It's really one of the most convenient accessories if not THE most convenient accessory I've ever bought for a phone/tablet and it's that convenience you pay for. I wish it was cheaper, but still think it's worth the asking price.

Ahhh the heat thing. Yeah, that *can* degrade the performance of a battery over an extended period of time, but I don't see that being a major concern. Your phone gets warmer during gaming sessions or just browsing the web than it does when on a wireless charger so the argument can be made that it's worse for the battery to actually use the phone than to charge it wirelessly. That said, at least in my experience, my TYLT charger doesn't make my N5 or N7 warm at all. And my N5 is on it all the time. Bottom line- use your phone the way you want to, you're going to be upgrading long before your battery dies anyway.
Slightly OT, but does it matter if you plug in your Qi charger into a USB 2.0 port on a computer, or do you need to use a USB 3.0?
I know that the mAh of USB 2.0 is something like only 500mAh, but I believe it still supplies the same 5V as USB 3.0 would. Would a Qi charger go by the 5V input, or would is use the 500mAh max draw rendering the charge time absolutely horrendous?
I don't really know how it works too well. I have my Qi charger plugged into a USB port on my power bar for my night stand. But I'd like to have 2 more, 1 for my desk (hooked to my desktop computer) and another for my notebook.

Wireless charging kit?

Hey all. Recently broke my charger port. Im going over to wireless charging now for my main source of charging. What is the best kit for it? Been looking around for a good kit that isnt too boot leg.
I was thinking about getting this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-S3-i9300-Wireless-Charge-Touch-Stone-White-/150938457137
I think this is a forbidden topic. There's a Qi charging thread that's stickied and the last post just states that it's not allowed on this site. I think it's stupid to ban Qi wireless charging topics altogether because there's a few bad apples trying to hock their products here.
I just got a Nexus 7 2013 and since it has Qi charging capabilities built in, I decided to buy a charger. I found on the N7 section that the TYLT Vu is the best premium base so I ordered one from Tmo with a 30% discount code that still worked.
Since I was getting into wireless charging for my N7, I decided to look into it for my S3. I bought a cheap chinese knockoff receiver on ebay and while it works, it starts disconnecting/reconnecting after it gets to about 88%-90%. It still charges to 100% but it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting every 10 sec to 1 min with the associated notification beep each time. I turned the notification sounds off while charging until I find a real solution. So where else do I go to find issues with my phone other than XDA. Too bad they banned this topic. You'll have to go elsewhere to find recent and relevant info about current Qi wireless chargers and receivers.
I'd love to resolve this issue as wireless charging is frickin awesome!!!
I have a kit if you are interested..

my suggestion is to get the receiver pad from ebay and look online for the nokia qi charging plate. they go on sale for 25 bucks regularly.
I got one of the earlier Qi kits from one of the chinese manufacturers and while the receiver works really well, I can't say the same for the transmitter...
EDIT: Yes, the other sticky got closed down because despite requests for people to NOT hawk their products, some people ignored the request and in the end screwed everyone else that wanted to keep the thread as an informational source. Some people honestly don't care how many others they screwed over so they can hawk a few sales and blatantly disregard the rules.
I personally use this receiver. It charges perfectly through my lifeproof case.
I use this one:
w w w . fasttech.com/products/1139900
The sticker creates a slight buldge through the back cover but that never really annoyed me. Charging worked as advertised.

Shouldn't be a problem if it's thin. Charging range is a few centimeters.

probably wouldn't fit properly. the standard battery with the receiver pad already creates a bulge. the 3000mah battery is even thicker.

5-8mm is the range for the charger to receiver for most systems. I have a UAG cover on mine and it works on both chargers I have. The 1-2mm the receiver bulged out made my UAG case crack though. Case still works at protecting the phone so I'm not too worried as I'll probably be upgrading soon (S5?).

Yes. If you follow the link from compro01, you'll see the charging base that works with it and it will work as it should. It's compact so it's also good for travelling. I got mine from eBay for $24 shipped. It came in a full retail package with a micro usb cable.

Wireless charger question.

Hi,
So, I'm one of the 'few' users which the USB connector on my nexus became loose to the point where doesn't charge anymore. One of the connectors inside broke (shorter then the others), I tried to fix another connector (successfully) but I can't do much about the broken one.
With this I'm left with 3 alternatives.
Send to RMA, logical, but would take at least two months since I'd have to send it to UK (was bought there) and I don't wanna be that long without it.
Order a USB connector and mount it myself. I'm actually considering this... But moving on...
Order a wireless charger, this seems the most fast option to get it charging. Now choosing this option leaves me with some questions. Considering that the official wireless charger is way more expensive than those QI ones, I checked the specifications and seems like the mA/output between QI chargers and official wireless is the same, so, do they take the same amount of time charging? Will I have any issues with another brand (considering it should work on nexus) ? Any big pratical differences between official / other brands if the technical specifications are the same?
Someone care to shed a light on this matter?
Thank you so much in advance

In my experience with third party chargers i only found it to be a bit less well built and slightly more heat
But thats it
In my opinion you should go for it
Because my N7 is also used in my truck for audio, I have a wireless eBay charger in the truck mount and another on my nightstand by the bed. They work great and supposed to.
Thanks guys

That said, the 'approved' chargers aren't really that expensive anyway and can be purchased from any best buy.
Ok so what charger you used? Not expensive??? 40$?

The one I have is a no-name brand one I got back in June 2013.. This one looks like it:

I also noticed though, if you feel more comfortable with a product that they advertise works with moto 360 (again, I'm not sure why one wouldn't and I hadn't heard of certain ones not working), if you search ebay for 'moto 360 qi charger', you'll get a number of chargers in the $20 range, like this one:

I can say that the Nokia D900 and the Choe Wireless one from Amazon work just fine.
Just get this. Works great.
