Check this out... works great with Nexus 5. I modified mine a bit so I could adapt it to work with my existing RAM mount setup on my dash, but I am pleased with the results.
One thing to note, however - the mount comes with a couple of steel plates, one of which normally needs to be mounted inside a case. If you don't use a case, you don't need a plate because the Nexus 5 has four steel discs built into the back cover already that the magnet in the magicMOUNT is more than powerful enough to hold on to. If you do use a case, you're going to have to use one of the plates because the added thickness moves the built-in steel discs too far away from the magnet for a good grip. If you use wireless charging, do not install the plate in the center of the case as it will block the induction coils and wireless charging will not work. Instead, offset the plate to one end like I did.
You can get this directly from Scosche for $19.99 plus shipping at http://www.scosche.com/magicmount and there are currently three different variations to choose from. Okay, on to the pics:

Looks like most of them are sold out. I was actually interested in the power one. I know it probably makes more sense to use a wireless charger, but in case I don't need to charge my phone I can just use the magnet to hold my phone. Plus the price isn't bad. It says 15-16 weeks delivery though....
Edit: Just called them up and the power mount is a new product. So I guess we have to wait 4 months.
All this needs is a qi charger built in and it will be the perfect car mount.
Ok, luckily I checked and the one you bought is back in stock. @dankoman, how long did the shipping take? I'm also from Philly. I chose the USPS shipping though, so I guess it depends which shipping you bought.

Oh ok that's pretty quick. And they shipped it out right away? I suppose I will prob have to wait a bit longer since I ordered it on a Friday evening. Also, how many different steel plates did it come with? And since the magnet plate sticks to the back of the N5 if putting it inside the case, does that make it hard to take off the case?

Just rig up a mount for the official Nexus 5 Qi charger. It works perfect. I adhered it right above my radio's LCD, the phone attaches firmly. I've had it like this for a month and it's never fallen off. Wrote some tasker scrips to make it truly awesome.
I don't understand...at first it said the one you had was sold out. The following day it said it was back so I ordered it. Now I checked and it said pre-order only and it will ship in two weeks...that's kind of BS.

Has anyone used this product.
I am thinking of getting this product (just the case version), I am wondering if it will still work if I slap a TPU case on top of it.
Any kind of feedback would help. Thanx.
if you're going to spend that much money, why not just do either the palm touchstone mod or get the qi wireless receiver and transmitter instead? they'll end up cheaper and in the qi case, it'll be reuseable for future products that uses qi standards..
EDIT: You probably wont be able to add a case of your choice on it as well since the size will be very different from the original s3 size.

I like the option of just getting into my car and placing the phone on a the dock. It immediately holds it and also charges it. No messing with wires and a dock holder. I thought I will take it one step further and put a TecTiles on it, so it can start my bluetooth connectivity and other options. All this would be one step.
It also come with a case version, which I am probably going to get. Just did not want to add bulk.
if it works it works, but you will be stuck using it with only their product line and no one else's.
It's up to you though.. i'd rather get a universal option rather than something that is limited to one company only. (I can use chargers from nokia, energizer, oregon scientific, etc while you're going to have to buy from magnetyze) Also to note, once you change your phone, you would have to wait and see if they'll create a case/backing for your next phone if you want to continue using the set or you'll just have to ebay it off or toss it in the trash.
Well... i also don't trust magnets to hold my phone in place while i'm driving as well... I'd rather have a dock that grips it nice and tight rather than a magnet, but that's just me.

I just got mine yesterday. I'll try and get around to a full review within the next week.
Cliffs: Charges well. Holds device well. Will not work with a case. Looks and feels to be nice quality. Mine won't sync the phone.

Also what version did you get, the backcover or the case. Did you also get the car mount. Thanks

The back cover. No car mount. I couldn't find it listed on their site. I don't think I'd trust a magnet holding my phone in the car.

I've been looking for a good vent mount that will fit my Verizon S3 with a Diztronics case on it. I had one I purchased awhile back but unfortunately it broke. I've seen this one as well, but it has mixed reviews
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XAF4YQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2MCP9XRDS4FRC
I was hoping to spend under $25, and am looking to use the phone in landscape so I can use it as my GPS. Does anyone have one they would recommend? I tried the nGrooze one that goes in the CD player, and I love it but unfortunately the way its designed it pushes in the volume button on my Honda accord, so it doesn't work too well.
Thanks in advance!

nGroove does have a new mount out (not yet for sale, but very soon, I think): http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/t...k-mount-any-mobile-device-in-your-car-cd-slot
But, I can't tell if it will have the same issue as their older mounts, as they are pretty similar at the CD-player slot end.

This one might actually work better. I definitely hadn't seen anything about this, so thank you very much for the headsup!!

I made my own following this guide on Lifehacker. I used heat shrink rather than string, quicker and cleaner. Took me about 5 minutes, but I had all the tools at work and knew what I was doing.
Works quite well, though I have noticed recently (about a year after making the mount) that it has loosened up the horizontal slats that the binder clip contacts when it gets pushed onto the vent. Nothing serious, though.

Pictured is the Rock case, but I currently use the extended battery and Diztronic case. It also worked quite well with the stock battery and Diztronic case. Basically it accommodates a large range of phone sizes thanks to the rubber bands.
I have this one. Working well with samsung protective cover plus.

Just heads up for anyone else considering the Airframe: I ordered one to try with my daily driver S3+Defender, and no go. The Kenu website does not give any specs on the largest width it can handle. I thought I'd give it a try regardless.
With my digital caliper, the largest width the Airframe can handle fully stretched is 76mm. My defender measures about 79.5mm.
I really like this vent mount. Right now, I can only use it on my older Android units or my test S3 in a non Defender type case. Very nice concept, materials, and execution in terms of fit and finish. I'm going to email Kenu and hope a future revision can add an extra few mm.
Just received my Elago M2 stand that I ordered from Amazon for $25. My Droid Maxx fits it great, with or without my Diztronic TPU case. It's one piece of solid aluminum, with rubberized feet on the bottom of the base and also in the support brackets. It comes in black or silver. I chose the black version to match the Maxx.
The great thing about this stand is that it has space between the support brackets to allow access to the micro-USB port for charging. It has holes in the back of the base for cable management as well. Overall, it's a nice alternative to the more expensive charging dock for the Maxx that seems to be of lesser build quality and will have to be replaced when the next phone is purchased. This stand should work with any phone going forward.

That's why I made this post, since they don't mention other phones on the Amazon page. It works perfectly with my Maxx. There's room to spare for a larger case as well. In theory it should work great with any phone that has the charging port on the bottom, like the new Droids, the Moto X, or the Galaxy series. It would still work with a side-mounted charging port, just not as elegantly.
I opted for the TYLT VU, as I also get wireless charging on top of the desk stand. :victory:

I have a TYLT VU as well, which I use on my nightstand. I love it but at $70 each I can only afford one of them, hence the search for a cheaper option. Currently using $25 Elago M2s at work and home office, and TYLT VU on the nightstand (so I don't have to fumble around with plugs in the dark). Works great.

Its plastic. CNC machined then engraved then light scotch brite rub for a matte finish.
Prototype created by calprecision.com
I went with 4 Neodymium Magnets 1/2 x 1/8 inch Disc N48. 4 discs hold fine since I keep my phone naked. Even a case like the Neo hybrid from spigen allows charging.
Let me hear your thoughts.
wanna build me one? ill make it worth your time
If the magnets hold strong enough with a case on while using it in a car you have a hit on your hands. Or if a small bracket could be added to the bottom to ensure it doesn't slide off would be good too.
Sent from the jaws of my Hammerhead!
Where would you mount this in a car. I had 2 made originally. One for me one for a co worker. He did a little something on the bottom because he has a case. It wouldn't be hard to make it more professional.
I only needed 4 magnets, he needed six, but with eight it would hold very tight.
These could be done, and probably would have to, without the nexus logo. Thereby opening it up to other devices.
id take one just like that one right now lol
Looks Good
Can you please post a picture with N5 resting on the charger? Any plans to sell it? I will buy one if you can ship internationally.
I'll get you a pick later today or tomorrow psy_spy
How much would everyone be willing to pay for the dock? Market rate of $65 plus shipping? That's if these were to actually be produced. Would this dock be comparable, in your eyes, to the tylt vu dock?
Me too i take one.
How much for the dock with charger and can you post internationally? :good:
I'll take one!
As promised phone charging image.
clean setup man! let me know if you ever decide to make more to sell cause im definitely interested!
I'd be in for one.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I'd also buy one
oh. maybe start a kickstarter for it?
Brilliant, how much?
I'm interested as well if its got a strong magnetic hold on the phone
Is there any chance you could build something like that but with a different shape? I mean, I would prefer a dock/charging station that could hold the phone horizontaly.
Would that be possible?
The dock as i have it now has a good hold on the phone, even landscape. I actually typically have my phone in that direction. I have been rolling ideas around in my head for different configuration of the magnets and charging coil.
I 'm going to start a kickstarter and see what ground it picks up. Maybe toy with some design options or possibilities. I also need a sweet name for it, anyone got any ideas? If this thing takes off I would offer the dude that gave up the name something in return obviously.
If these were in the $55-$65 would everyone still be interested in them?
kickstarter would be sweet. $55-$65 via kickstarter or retail? are you thinking about including the charging coil?
by any chance do you have a nexus 7 (2013)? just wondering if this would work with the nexus 7 as well.

55-65 would be retail, kickstarter would be in the 30-45 range i would think. Im looking at other projects to se how they have them set up. There is A LOT to making a project....
Does the N7 have magnets? would pronanly be to heavy and would require a set up similar to a phone that doesnt have magnets.
The nexus 7 2013 does have magnets. They don't seem to be as strong as the 1s in the nexus 5. They might just seem weaker because they're spaced out more tho.
As a former Moto 360 user, I'm pretty happy with the Huawei watch but the charging experience is horrible. The Qi charger of the Moto 360 works as the dock and it makes charging effortless.
Enough with the whining, let's fix it. This dock that I bought for around $8 is designed for the Apple Watch and the iPhone 6 Plus. No big deal. The wood is soft and easy to work with.

First, for the watch:
-Make the hole bigger for the Huawei magnetic charger.
-The charger has to sit tightly inside the hole, doesn't come out with the watch but still easy to remove. I don't want to buy another charger.
Before:
After 10 minutes with the rotary tool:
It's much easy to dock the watch now. I found out that once I drop the watch on the charger, just press the screen by 9 o'clock. It will make the pogo pins align with the contacts on the bottom of the watch. Tried it a few time and it worked every time. :good:
Next, I want to make the USB-C connector permanently attach to the bottom of the dock so I can dock my Nexus 6P. It looks like this from the bottom of the dock:
To be continue...
Well done!
Kudos
I saw that dock on eBay and wanted to do the same thing. Thanks for being a guinea pig. (Looks like you need more practice with the rotary tool. Scratched it a bit.) Anyway, good luck with the USB plug.

I've been considering getting one of these combo docks, but have concerns about the angle and the cable being pushed against the side of the dock.
