Hello, as we all undoubtedly know, the W has a very small RAM, so we really must be frugal with it.
No doubt many of you are also familiar with Swype, but perhaps are reluctant to install it due to its size. And perhaps you are also unsatisfied with SwiftKey's much-hyped "flow through space" feature.
If so, then perhaps you would be interested with a less well-known keyboard called "Multiling Keyboard". It's kind of similar to Swype, but it's much lighter. And it has some features that neither Swype nor SwiftKey have.
Get it from the Play Store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kl.ime.oh

This and all discussion?
And after all the keyboard - really remarkable! :good:
(I use version 0.42.3)

Now, I am not the dev of this app but I am here to sing its praises.
Its a great keyboard app for virtual keyboard, it has pretty much all the features that other keyboards have, including swype.
Anyway it utilises a great spell check feature and good toolbar that can also be used for our hard keyboard, this makes work correction and things like copy and paste very very easy to use.
Now I currently don't know of any other keyboards where features move over to the hard keyboard, but this is certainly worth looking into, I love it.

there is a free trial available too.
what do you mean? how does it work together with the hw keyboard?
Yeah, SwiftKey (an infinitely BETTER keyboard, by the way) works fine with the HW keyboard, and the features of their software works with the HW keyboard. There's a reason it's #3 in the Market, and Ultra Keyboard is #578.
It does not work with the hardkeys ÅÄÖ and possibly others, they are always uppercase :/

its hardly fair to judge it based on that, swiftkey is made by a company and has had loads of publicity, ultra keyboard is made by one individual and has flown well under the radar.
As a keyboard Ultra is the best keyboard around, the only feature its missing is the prediction that swiftey offers.
I have some beef with the developer, so I'm a little biased anyways, and SwiftKey only has publicity because it created hype, anyone can hype their app.
Look at BlindType, Google bought them based on hype alone, the app was never released.
Ultra's alright, I just hated the prediction on the Compact QWERTY, it seemed like it had about 3 words pre-programmed in and everything else was missing and had to be typed in. If he released optional language packs like SK does, I probably wouldn't have as big an issue with it.
Hello all
I have come from a galaxy s, still getting used to a smaller keyboard.
I found the stock blur keyboard worked a bit better with my fat thumbs is it possible to install on cm7? Also if anyone has installed it could you send me the keyboard.apk.
Thanks in advance.

Must say I find the stock multi-touch keyboard to be plenty large in landscape. That said have you tried the "iPhone Keyboard"? There's a free version on the market. It seems more comfortable to use and I also have large fingers.
Ill check out iPhone keyboard.
Never really put phone into landscape maybe I need too

Try swiftkey beta on market. Its great and free.
So my keyboard of preference is the stock samsung 3x4 pad thats comes with the s2. But it seems less and less roms are carrying this keyboard. Does anyone know where to download it, or how I can just save the one that the stock phone uses and transfer it to a new rom. I'm a fan of trying out all the new roms, but not having the 3x4 pad is keeping me running stock.
Thanks!
The keyboard that comes with Swype Beta seems very similar to me to the stock Samsung keyboard which, I agree with you, is much better than the Android keyboard. You can use it without actually "Swyping" if that's your preference. (It also comes with a great voice recognition system.) It's available (for free) at: beta.swype.com

But i'm just looking for something with a 3x4 lay out(numeric pad I think it what its called).
try smartkeyboard pro, which has a samsung theme built in. looks great and feels great
This phone is so awesome, but I'm about to lose my mind with the landscape keyboard. Does anyone know of something to help that ISNT skype or the paid ones on the market? Maybe a mod to make the stock keyboard bigger? Moto multitouch keyboard?
swiftkey and go keyboard are the best third party keyboards, in my experience.
they're larger than the stock ICS keyboard. though IMO the stock keyboard is the best one
You may buy the external connected key broad, is potable. Usually under 20 dollars. Good Luck.
For free, I would try Go Keyboard (has typing and swype abilities), also try the swype beta (google it, not on the market).
Paid, I love swift key.
Personally, I bounce between stock, swype, and swift key.
IMO, the best of them all is the stock keyboard. If you like swype you like swype. As far as regular keyboards go, you cannot beat the responsiveness of the stock ICS keyboard.
I believe the ics keyboard on the market allows you to adjust the key height. It also has gestures. There a few out there so pm me if you can't find it and I'll dig up the link.

As others have said the Go keyboard is probably the best free. I am a fan of the FlexT9 keyboard. It is kind of a mix of swype and swiftkey. Got it for free on the amazon app store. It has issues typing email address in the Gmail app for some reason.
Thanks all. I ended up buying swiftkey. Its great and all, but in the end I decided to just force myself to get used to the stock keyboard. I was spoiled by the eclipse rom keyboard on the bionic...

Hi! Im not a huge fan of the keybpard so im wondering if anyone here knows if and where I can find a stock android keyboard or something lightweight (no ads) that I can download? Thanks
SwiftKey works wonders for me. If you really want to try an alternative, there are apks of the aosp keyboard out there, or you can just opt to use GBoard.

Thanks! Gboard feels right for me
Just noticed that Xperia Keyboard is now available on Play Store for XZ2 Compact, installed it yesterday. I don't like Swiftkey at all, to bloated with crap I don't want to use. Xperia Keyboard works lot better IMO. It's more lightweight to, 35MB to Swiftkey's whopping 80 MB.
can't see it here in play store..?!

it says "item not found" here.. strange.. maybe is country related?

I tried several versions and finally installed Xperia keyboard v.8.0.A.0.110 (downloaded from ApkMirror site), works perfect.
I am a gamer and I have the best PC that costs a lot of money and the best keyboard is redragon k552. It has a heavy-duty metal + ABS plastic construction, 87 double-shot injection keycaps, splash resistance, gold-plated USB connectors, TKL design, customizable LED light controls, and the keyboard is very durable and is comparable to razer or corsair products. I am in love with it because it is very comfortable to play with it and work.
