Hello so yesterday I put my galaxy gear for sale on craiglist. I got a message from a person telling me hes interested and what not. Should of been smarter but this guy told me he will be calling me from some craiglist security thing to make sure I wassnt spam of fake. So I told him it sounds shady he could be a scammer but to go ahead and call because I aint one. He said when I call you dial 41 so I can reach you. So the call came im. I dialed 41 and the background voice said that my account was now active like wtf? What account. I hanged up immediately. I have had like 4 phone calls of random numbers starting with area code 214. Also I got the callback number from this one voice mail I received I lookes it up on the Internet and nothing came up. Can anyone help me out here?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Lol yeah call ur provider and let them know. U dialing 41 made it legal. So what ever the charge is they might make you pay it. You might have to appeal it and maybe even go to cops and file report to get charges reversed. Good luck
Wow really? Wow. People with no lifes. So what I do is call tmobile and tell them what happened? Do you happen to know what was it for? How can this even be resolved changing numbers
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Hence the reason why I don't use Craigslist. Plus ALWAYS get a Google Voice number if you're going to use Craigslist. Then you use that and have it forwarded to you phone and then you can just delete the google voice number if you don't want it anymore.

Sorry to hear that. I do use Google voice just as others recommended.
Keep us updated on what tmobile says.

When it comes to Craigslist only use a Textnow number I don't trust anyone on there easy to use sign in then sign out

If you're trying to forward voicemails to Google Voice with a T-Mobile prepaid plan, it won't work. T-Mobile doesn't allow it. That might be your issue.
Have you checked T-Mobile for the list of calls made to or from your account? Might want to do that.

This was actually on the news in my town.
It's a new cell phone scam.
They call you, and when you answer, it says to press a few numbers and then it charges your account.
It happened to a couple about 2 hours from me, they got charged almost $2,000 because they merely answered their phone.
People have nothing better to do than sit around and figure out how to mess with people.

I got that "content block" from tmobile. Any 3rd party charges to any charges at all on my tmobile account will not work. My account is now protected from any charges last time I spoke to tmobile they told me no chargers where made to my account. But at least I can rest assured tmobile got my account blocked out of any unauthorized access. Didn't even know you could do that. It's free
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Yea it's pretty pathetic what people will do for $, but wow exactly why would anyone answer their cellphone and press numbers. Some problems and scams only work because people have lack of intelligence. I mean just look at the U S go ferment. Biggest scam to date

There was an article on Phandroid about this cell phone scam the other day. Don't know if it's the same as this but sounds just like it.

Hello guys...a friend of mine is selling an E4GT that he found. No contacts and has no service o.o. probably bad esn ill post pictures once he gets them to me.

Thank you.

Sell it on eBay or Craigslist. This is not the right section to sell phones on xda and selling bad esn phones is not allowed here.
That being said you could still probably get a decent amount for it on eBay as these can be flashed to different CD a carriers. I bought a bad esn epic 4g touch and added it to my virgin mobile account.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Or how about you get the esn and call sprint to find out.. if is good then you can still sell it on xda to a dev and not to some idiot on ebay/craigslist who wont use it to its full potential

If it has been reported stolen, then only asurion would know whose it was. and their records are a mess. If it is just lost, then a Service center could easily figure out whose phone it is using the ESN and the phone number (found using ##786#).
If it has a bad ESN, then sell it. (they gave up looking for it) If it has a Good ESN then return it (someone is probably looking for it.)

I think you will enjoy it this Google thing may actually catch on one day... Also the persons name and phone number are right there within the about section of the phone. The phone may be lost or stolen but I am quite sure they still kept their number. Just text or call them... Problem solved...
Oh if you cant figure out where to look try using Google and bask in all its glory
Yeah i convinced him to call sprint. I know sure as hell would have. And yes karma does repay. I found iphone 3gs a long time ago. I called the guy and told him i had it and i would take it to him because i had time off. I took it to his office and the guy took his contacts and said "thank you so much for being honest, you can have the phone." It was a great day. I'd rather return it and get a fk you than keep it. Either way its up to him and ima kick his ass for making me post and then change his mind lol.

How Do we OPT out of these sprint weather alerts? I have gone into my messaging settings and turned them off. But I still get the stupid flood warning texts. When I delete them, they just keep coming through. I received like 20 text alerts yesterday because it rained lol. Any way to block them? I called sprint yesterday and the lady I spoke to, knew nothing about them lol.

You can opt out of most (but not all) wireless emergency alerts. On page two of this link is instructions on how to opt out:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/2811-102-1-2310
The code you put in the dialer doesn't work (at least for me) on CM9. Hope this helps.

I had my GS2 stolen and got stuck with an LG Optimus T for about 2 months until I got my S3. I was at this resort with a swimming pool and I put my phone inside of what I thought was a pretty nice security locker, it had a pin that you put in to unlock and lock it. So I typed in my code locked the locker and went for a quick swim with my friends and some chicks and when I came back my locker was broken, my wallet was on the floor (they stole my money), and my phone was gone. I don't think I've ever felt so robbed in my life, it's almost like I had a baby and someone kidnapped it. Then about a month later I was hanging out with my friends and some guy left his phone at the table and my friend tried to steal it but I took it from him and gave it back to the guy, it was a HTC G2 or something like that. Ever since I keep 3 programs on my phone at all times: Cerberus, Lookout, and Where's my droid.
I have been constantly having problems with sprint. I love the S2, but I never get reception, always losing signal. Slow to no data. (yes I called them to have the fix the problem but no help. Last week I was on hold for 6 hours, not exaggerating at all).
I called sprint again today, and they would not upgrade my phone. They said I bought it in Feb, and they would charge me $280 to break out of contract and $200 for the new note 2 phone. ($580, they are nutz...).
they wouldn't pass me onto retentions either. They hung up on me 4 times during my phone call. Stupid russion speaking dwarfs from yugoslavia or something...
So I canceled finally, and they didn't even do ANYTHING to try and keep me as a customer. I have been with them since 1999.
So... I will pay the break out fee of $280. But I feel it is a relief to get away from them. Sprint has gone down the toilet, and I am not going to be held hostage by them anymore.
So... Anyone have any suggestions on what to do now? Legal suggestions only please. I still have my S2, so if there was a way I can prepay activate it somewhere .....
OR what is the best bang for the buck wireless company now? I kind of wanted the new note 2 or I can wait for the nexus 4.
Thanks for letting me waste your time.....
I'd probably swallow any loss that you paid to Sprint and move onto T-Mobile if their coverage is nice in your area. $200 for a 2-year contract or buy outright from Google for $300-350, not bad. Just gotta wait since they're on back ordered.
Unfortunate that you experienced that type of customer service from Sprint. I've had nothing but great deals with them every time.
I was looking at Ting... I guess they have a beta program where you can bring your device from sprint. Pay as you go no contract. You get credited the following month for stuff you didn't use.
The epic touch 4g is one of the 5 devices currently supported by ting.

As for the app in question, not the one listed just above, when you go to the beta health check section the first time, it pops up a message saying what it its going to do and what it will do with the info it collects. Hard to miss it since it uses the entire screen and gives you an out.
And that includes a more info button which takes you to a website that includes FAQs and info on how tio turn it off and flush the info.
It doesn't mention anything about a root check, but considering what it collects, getting that info is pretty trivial for any diagnostics tool.
If you say no to the check (clicking on close) it doesn't do it. The next time you enter that section if you said no before, it acts like you have never been there before and asks again.
If you accepted it then went back and uncheck the box will it still collect it since you accepted already? Btw im on stock but planning on rooting later, that's why I'm asking. Don't want to root and have them know when I do decide to root.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Well at least the reps in the store don't care. When I was looking between the Nexus, Note 3 and G2 after the rep told me the Nexus was the easiest to root if I did that.
I do have a friend that works at a store. I should ask him how that affects things.

Most likely has no effect in a store. It is designed to give a tech info about the device to see why something may not be working properly.
If you uncheck the allow diagnostics button it stops collecting the info. Note that if you use the Health App (Fitness app), it has a similar hardware check to make sure the sensors are working properly for it to calculate properly.
Why would T-Mo change your service for rooting? It's your device, they aren't going to care if you've customized it for service reasons but for support and warranty reasons it is a thing they want to know. If you don't use their support for your device it won't matter.

Just saw the update in the play store.not going to update thatapp.
I enabled mine also but after seeing it sees all my apps I disabled it even though I'm not rooted. After a day now I don't see any history. Hopefully they won't keep track anymore in case I root.

They use carrier IQ to obtain the information shown in the app. All you're doing when agreeing to the app's terms is enabling CIQ in the settings. The app itself doesn't give them any more information than they already get, it just shows it to you as well.
