WiFi direct question - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi all, my problem is the following: I have a Nexus 7 2 all stock and a Samsung S 2 also full stock. I want to transfer files thru wifi direct, but it always fails. I can connect them, they see each other and can connect. I use the built in file manager on Samsung and ES file explorer on the Nexus. From the s2 I have the option to send via wifi direct, but the n7 never receives it, from the n7 I don't even have the option in ES to send or share via wifi direct. Thru bluetooth, all fine, but slow. What do I should do to make it work?

I use superbeam to transfer files between my Nexus 7 and Galaxy S4. It uses wifi direct and works like a charm. I've transferred apps, pictures and videos with this app.

Thanks! I'll give it a try.

Yep, it works fine! Thanks!

Bluetooth MAP client

Is there an app that can connect to mobile devices running Bluetooth with support of message access protocol? My goal is to text from tablet without having another piece of software running on my phone. Or use an non smart phone as a source.

It's been mentioned in other threads, although I have never tried it. Tablet Talk, however it does require you install on both tablet and phone. It can connect with bluetooth. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...abtalk&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Unfortunately that app won't work, well not for what I'm wanting, that app requires it to be installed on both ends. I'm looking for one that connects to the Bluetooth Message access protocol on the host device

Tablet talk

I can get tablet talk to connect and function perfectly on my n7 connected to my S3 via bluetooth, but it keeps disconnecting frequently via wifi.
I've changed ports to 8080 on both but still the problem persists. Would prefer to have wifi as the would be less drain on both my n7 and S3 that way.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Anyone know what could be wrong? Apple is useless to me this way.

I used to use TabletTalk but since getting my Nexus 7 it never worked 100%. DeskSMS and TabletSMS from ClockworkMOD work perfect and wayyyyyy better.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/
DeskSMS
TabletSMS
Works awesome in chrome with the extension as well.
mysms has also worked well for me and is free. It will also sync as long as both are connected to the internet (ie you don't have to be on the same network).
I also connected n7 and s3 with tablet talk but when a SMS arrives it isn't synched with tablet and I don't hear notification sound in my s3 so I've lost a lot of SMS. Do you use s3 with stock or custom ROM??

I also use TabletSMS, this one is not depending on the devices to be connected to each other or even on the same network, i never got tablet talk to work the way i wanted, especially when i lost the connection i had to physically connect my phone to the tablet again using the connect button, nothing else worked, but this one works perfectly, always.
Works great for me. One of my top used apps on the Nexus7 . Use WiFi mode mostly but works fine using Bluetooth. Never have and issue synching it with my gnex on wither mode.

Thanks for posting this I'm trying it out now. It sucks its a yearly thing but 5 bucks isn't much at all.

i use tablet talk and was experiencing the same problem. the issue is that most roms, even stock if im not mistaken, disables wifi after the screen has been off so long... solution: go into settings and change wifi scan to bigger intervals.. worked for me. hope this helps

Do you use WI-FI or bluetooth connection? Which is the best to save battery life?

Have you tried SyncSms? It syncs your texts utilizing Dropbox or Google. Been using it a long time and it works beautifully. You'll need a network or wifi connection for your tablet. Learned about it on XDA as an XDA fellow created it. It costs a few bucks but worth it. Do a search and you should find it. Highly recommend it.

TabletTalk is different. Connect to your phone via Bluetooth and you can put your phone in your pocket and go anywhere and tTalk makes you like a phone. Connection to internet is not necessary nor is data.
I use Tablettalk all the time over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth all the time. The trick for me on Wi-fi was to put the IP address in the tablet to the phone. then it connects and stays connected everytime.. Just my two sense work..
Tablettalk is the cream of the crop.. works an dsome of the newer featrues coming will be great.. (p.s. Not i dont work for them. I just love this app)

Best Tether app (non root)

Hello i have a sprint galaxy s III and i was wondering if anyone has had success tethering a sprint phone to the nexus 7? My phone is not rooted, i would like to keep it that way if at all possible. I use FoxFi and PDA Net and it does connect to my Nexus 7, but for internet only. Google play will not update apps, facebook will not work, Netflix won't work, ect. I tried open garden, FoxFi (by itself), PDA Net (by itself) and nothing else connects. What is everyone else using??? Thanks in advanced!
Well I`m using foxfi and it works very well for me. I`m living in uk.

I tried out foxfi today for the first time. It seems pretty good, but I would like to here others suggestions as well.

That doesn't really answer the OP's post though. FoxFi doesn't look like a real internet connection to all apps though. Is there another app that does any better?

If I understand this right your wanting to connect your N7 to the internet via your G3, if so cannot you just use the mobile access point on the phone, i have the galaxy s and my sister has the S2, both have this options in the settings and once set up and turned on acts just like a wireless router, select it and enter the password on your N7 and your away.. works well on mine

The same on my S3 Nexus Combo, great having unlimited data and unlimited tethering data

I've never tried it, but how about PDAnet?
Foxfi Wifi Hotspot no longer works on my nonrooted Droid Bionic. I can only tether via blueetooth, which doesn't allow all of my apps to work correctly. Does anyone know of a Foxfi alternative?
My Foxfi works fine on droid x to my nexus 7. I don't know what you're talking about not a real connection....
Check it out though, foxfi is definitely awesome.

S-Beam issue

I've never been able to transfer music like they say you can. When I select the track then bump the back of the phones it goes into beam mode and I tap just like I do with pictures but there's no progress bar and have waited and nothing happens.
Its not a specific phone. Its like this on every s3 I've tried also
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I don't think the Galaxy Nexus supports S-Beam. Android Beam only sends contacts, app store pages, images, browser pages (and maybe a few other things) but not Songs afaik.
S-Beam is only on Touchwiz galaxy devices (SII, SIII).

....its on the galaxy nexus.. I've used it several times. Last night as well.. When you Google s-beam it also talks about how you can transfer songs and playlist also. The other day I transfered a 40mb video from my phone to an s3 just fine
Next person please..

S-beam was never advertised as a galaxy nexus feature. Period. Android beam, WiFi display, WiFi direct, were.
What does logcat/dmesg say?

Android beam, s-beam. Practically the same. I actually transfered a song to a galaxy note 2 early today. It was weird. Tried an s3 after and it wouldn't work then tried the note 2 again and it didn't work. It acts like it works but no progress bar and doesn't transfer. Its been random.
I'll try to get a logcat

I've never neen able to transfer photos or vidz via Android beam, only web pages, links to Play store apps, and the occasional contact. How are you getting it to work? I've tried with an S3 with no luck.
The trick to transferring images is turn on NFC and Android Beam and Bluetooth on both devices. NFC acts as an initiator for the Bluetooth connection and then the image is sent via Bluetooth between devices. I've only tried on a nexus 7 and galaxy nexus though.

When I try to share music using Android Beam, the system takes me to the Play Store.

Beaming to a Samsung S3 not working

Has anybody successfully been able to beam between the N7 and a Samsung S3?
Everyone I try it must opens the play store and nothing happens.
Any ideas?

I don't think it works. I tried it with a S4 and a N7 and it hasn't worked. I don't think Sammy's sbeam is compatible with the N7 nfc transfer... Two Google devices yeah, but a Sammy and a Google device? Doesn't work for me...

I have a nexus and an S3 and it works fine. I tried replicating the issue and it worked fine for me. First question is, are you on a custom ROM? Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but just putting that out there.
Second, my nfc settings on S3 are with android beam on, so beam off.
Also make sure that you are placing the nfc sensors together, as it can be difficult to find on the nexus.
Lastly, I love using an app called SuperBeam, which allows me to share files between my two devices. It's like S beam for galaxy phones, except for all nfc android phones.
Best of luck!

Yes i checked and double checked it only transfers via bluetooth if i turn of Sbeam on my Note 2
All mine does is open QuickPic. Nothing transfers.

My s3 also s4 when trying to beam to my N7 are both directed to the play store. When I run an aosp romn the s4 it works fine with the n7 and android beam. I think touchwiz messes it up.

Disable S-Beam and enable Android Beam and it will work with the Nexus 7 or any NFC enabled android device.
it will work only by opening the bluetooth not the wifi for the transfer...so for large files it's not so fast transfer. ..
